Rocket is talking about adding narrative to the game and I think spawning is a great opportunity for that. There should be lots of spawn sites all over the map with different narratives. Maybe you spawn face-down on the beach, soaking wet and just regaining consciousness (this spawn you would start with nothing), or you could start in a house with a gun on the table in the middle of a city with a swarm of Zeds knocking down your door. All kinds of situations could come up and they don't have to be balanced, you just deal with whatever situation you get or die. Day Z is not fair.

I'm not even reading the OP because I can't imagine how you can write so much about something so self-explanatory. If these PvE servers are completely disconnected from the central server (so you can't bring loot into PvP servers) then I suppose it would be a good way for people to familiarise themselves with the game before jumping into the real action (that sounds so funny when applied to Day Z), but I can't see many people staying on those servers so it probably wouldn't be worth it for the server host.

Sorry I was a bit harsh because I've been trawling through dozens of retarded ideas before I read this. I still think you've over-explained a fairly simple idea and it is often better to leave some things undecided to allow for discussion. I do actually like the idea of every player having an unique item to identify them (not just bandits), I would even go more gruesome and suggest using their head! This is easier to identify and could perhaps be stuck on a spike as a warning to others.

There are kitchens... do you not survive long enough to find a house? You reek of pathetic adolescence. You think trolling is funny because it's your weak attempt at undermining authority and an impotent attempt to assert dominance. You are completely worthless and have no reason for anyone to respect you or even take notice of you so being a twat is the only way you can get attention. Wow, you worked out that being a prick makes people hate you, you should submit a fucking thesis on that subject because it's fucking revolutionary! And before you post "U MAD BRO?" or some other demented copycat twattishness, no I am not mad I am mildly irritated by a cancerously ignorant fuck-wit. If you see that as an achievement then you have even less brains than you have balls.

Suggestion: Don`t change the game, change the way you play it
ollox replied to okami (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
(Why isn't the gif showing?) Yes there are so many "suggestions" from whiny children who want to be breastfed. This section is for ideas that would help the game grow and add more tools for creative play, not whining girly-men. -
I wouldn't trade you my beans for 100 ears, what the fuck would I do with ears? Why do people go into such retarded specifics? What you are asking for is a bounty system so just say it. You don't need some garbled rubbish about fricking ear-necklaces! Your suggestion should be this long: "I want there to be a bounty system for bandits: they would be more valuable the more murders they have committed. There could also be a ranking table and some kind of object you loot from their corpse as proof of kill." There is already a bounty system for bandits, it's called "bandits have all the good shit".

Pathologic: a game Rocket (and anyone who cares about DayZ) MUST play
ollox replied to duddbudda's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The game sounds really cool but there's not an awful lot that's applicable to Day Z. -
Your logic is fucking retarded. You want to punish legitimate players to remove hacked items that will just immediately be hacked back in on reset?? This would probably fuck people off so much they leave or become hackers themselves! You should never be in charge of anything!

I thought he was making everyone ice cream cones. Also this is a duplicate of many suggestions. Mods need to start banning these kids who don't search if they're not already.
-
And logging out when under fire isn't cheating? I hope English isn't your first language.
-
Wrong. If you shoot someone twice with a rifle they shouldn't be able to continue running at you and chop your head off with an axe.
-
The solution to camping is more spawn points.
-
We don't need a faction mechanic, we are humans capable of making factions without the game's help.
-
Why would there be loot in a bin? This is a bad habit of video games *looks in trash can*... *finds $20!* WTF? Finding trash in the trash can is fine but anything else is dumb. I'd like to see cupboards in houses become containers that might store food. I don't understand why there aren't more containers, surely these piles of objects everywhere are a load on the system?
-
People draw penises, swastikas and write dumb shit like "SAM WOZ ERE!" in real life so I don't see what that has to do with anything. We'd get some pretty cool art from talented people too.
-
There's no point in making this suggestion, it's obviously something that will be remedied once more character customisation is added. ;)

1. Use the search. 2. Shut the fuck up.
-
Duplicate suggestions everywhere.

Quoting someone else doesn't make you funny. Stop clogging up the thread! And vaginas are very difficult to draw recognisably. The big question is how would this work? I can think of a few ways: 1. Pre-made letters and symbol images used as sprites. 2. A brush that lays down many small circular sprites in a free-form pattern. 3. A vector-based system that builds sprite images from the vectors drawn by the player. 4. The image created by method 2 is imported to the image for that surface texture instead of using sprites. I like the idea of actually replacing the textures with the graffitied versions, that way there is no limitation on the amount of paint that could be used, but depending on how the objects are texture-mapped it could take a lot of work to make every object paintable in this way. The method would work by deciphering which polygon the player is aiming at, find the corresponding section of the texture and its orientation, then tracking the player's brush movement and converting to the correct direction for drawing directly to that part of the texture. A copy of the original textures would be stored for graffiti removal.

Balance of Power: How to Make a Bandits v Comrades Suggestion
ollox posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
We all know that Day Z is currently heavily geared towards PvP. While I am in favour of banditry this game has potential far beyond senseless killing, and something must be done to level the playing field. However, our method must not be to punish banditry but to encourage camaraderie. Consider these tenets when making a suggestion, I hope they speak the ethos of Day Z: Fear is valuing one's life. Remorse is valuing the lives of others. Grief is losing what can't be recovered. Camaraderie is being stronger together. There is no divine retribution in Day Z, if we are to punish bandits it must be at our own hands. Think about what you would do to combat the situation if this were real life. What would be different about a real-life post-apocalypse that would make banditry less desirable? What makes people band together in times of trouble? Why is it wrong to kill? How can order be restored? That last question is perhaps the most interesting one, and a subject Rocket has touched on in several interviews. We need society to enter the game and for that people have to become useful: there have to be actions that can only be completed by working together, whether that be something as simple as helping carry objects that can't be lifted alone or combining specialised skills to gain advantage over the lone-wolf. The development of Day Z is itself a post-apocalyptic tale we are all living through. We are rebuilding a civilisation as it is being created for the first time. -
Balance of Power: How to Make a Bandits v Comrades Suggestion
ollox replied to ollox's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think the main thing holding construction back is multiple servers: if we were all on the same server you couldn't get past barricades by server hopping. The game is very bandit oriented, as PhilB says, there really isn't anything for survivors to do other than avoid bandits. I'd like to see objects being manipulated in the real world. Carrying a helicopter rotary assembly in your rucksack is stupid: you should have to find a pick-up truck, repair it, drive it to where the assembly is, use the crane to lift the assembly onto the truck and drive it to the helicopter, then you'd have to find a way to winch the assembly into position. None of this has to be pixel perfect, I wouldn't care if there was all kinds of clipping or the assembly seemed to hover not even touching the crane. You could also require two or more people to lift heavy or large things like sheets of corrugated iron, maybe these could be used to build fortifications or shelters. -
The solution to murdering bandits and griefers
ollox replied to JD_274's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This is a terrible idea because immediately recognising people as good or bad destroys a lot of game-play and tension. You'd be a fool to trust someone based on stats anyway so this serves little to no purpose -- if someone is friendly they wont shoot unless threatened. I think notebooks are a cool idea but only if the player writes in them and there are no magical powers. This is another example of people not thinking how THEY would solve these problems but thinking about magical curses to impose on bandits. -
This is worse than the rape idea.
