    DayZ Mod 1.7.5.1 Update

Takes 90 seconds to count down from 30 to quit now. That's a touch excessive no?
  2. Does anyone know if there's a console command or config setup to hide the heads up display in game? I am in the process of story boarding a Day Z video and though it would be more cinematic if I could hide the HUD. Cheers, Burro
  3. I killed a man. I killed him, and now he’s gone. I cannot truly express just how low I feel. Here is my story. Sunday evening; approximately 10:30pm (GMT) I log on to DayZ (DE 344) with my survivor buddy Sean. We’re in a small woodland area overlooking the town of Stary Sobor. After finding the small military outpost here in our last session we decided to check it out in our next session. This being that session we approach the camp. It’s the dead of night, and pouring with rain. We’re discussing how poor the visibility is and limited ambient sound as we approach two cars. After having a quick looksee around them I confirm they’re non-working and we move toward the first tent. Inside, we pop a heat pack, drink from our canteen and eat some frank n beans. We sit there for a moment. The rain is beating down on the tent outside. We start to plan our night time mission; finding matches. With our game plan down and our objective not too far away (the Stary Sobor market) we head out into the rain to search the tents for any equipment and/or weapons. Going down one side each we work our way through the tents, finding food, binoculars, ammo and some rifles. Half way through the remaining tents I notice the rain is easing off. Sean confirms he’s seeing the same thing. Seconds later it completely stops and the clouds start to break up, and a starry night’s sky starts to break through. I continue on with my remaining tents. Reaching the end, and having collected all the items I felt we needed, I crouch walk behind the tents and start heading back to towards the cars we passed on our way into the area. Sitting there I talk to Sean, giving him updates on the Infected I could see and urging him to make haste. All of a sudden I hear a running sound on pavement/concrete not far from us. I alert Sean, “SHHHH!! …Did you hear that?! Are you running?!” His reply sends chills down my back, “no, I’m in my inventory” “F**K! I think I just heard someone running” I say. Sean shuffles over to my location. I’m now crouched like a Meerkat, by a rock 25 feet from the cars, scanning the area, eye’s wide like saucers. Sean asks “See anything?”, staring intently I don’t reply. He then startles me, “SHIT, I see him!”, I spin around, looking in Sean’s direction.. “What?! WHERE?!” I ask, he replies “oh wait, are you turning on the spot? <yes> ..Never mind” – “you idiot! I nearly shat myself” I reply, chuckling nervously. With my heart racing, I turn back to face the direction I thought the running came from. Sean has now crawled his way towards me and is prone five feet behind me. I’m still crouched, looking around. My heart rate steadily decreasing now, eyes relaxing, and I slowly sit back in my chair. “Sean, I think I must have heard myself or some glitched sound effect.. sorry, panic over” He replies “Ah ok, that’s coo..“ – I interrupt, “F**K, I see him! SHIT, F**CK, HE’S COMING THIS WAY, GET DOWN!” We both hit prone. I edge back behind the rock. I can barely see him, but it’s definitely a player, he’s moving too quickly to be an Infected. He approaches the cars twenty feet in front of us. I question Sean “what do we do mate?! He’s just in front of me, by the cars.. SHIT! I think he’s armed.” Sean replies, “Umm… I don’t know... I don’t know!” *at this point I should make it clear that both Sean and I have done our utmost to avoid any player activity or confrontation, mainly because of the general ‘shoot on sight’ mentality that most players have nowadays. This is something I now fully appreciate, as I’ve been shot at a couple of times while not posing any kind of threat (usually running away from built up areas or along the coast after spawning). Sean and I are pacifists, playing only to survive, to last as long as we can, and minimising any threat towards us as much as possible when possible, but still having the mind-set of ‘kill or be killed’. This might sound boring but it’s actually very rewarding and would be how I’d behave if/when a global infection wipes out most of humanity... :) Briefly I lose sight of him. “Sean, seriously... shall we leg it? Stay put? Shoot him or what?!” I whisper over chat (not in game), he replies “your call dude, you can see him, I can’t... do what you feel is right”, “wow, gee thanks mate” I think to myself. Suddenly the first tent lights up! “Shit, he has a torch Sean!”… We both stare, not speaking or moving as the player moves around in the tent. Sean whispers “can he see us?” I reply, “Not through the tent walls”. I hear him running from tent to tent. He’s getting closer and closer. His torch lighting up the area each time he turns. My heart is racing so fast, it’s like I’ve just sat down after doing a 100 meter sprint. With my heart racing, adrenaline surging through my veins and my eyes drying out from not being able to blink, I panic… I realise I still have my hatchet out. “F**K!” I exclaim, “I need to get my gun out!!” Sean sits there silently as I get up into a crouched position to get my AK out. Having never fired this gun in ARMA or DayZ I had no idea what it would sound like, its recoil or accuracy. Being a cautious player and never engaging in combat with any players, I had accrued 7 mags for it. Once loaded, I go prone. My nerves are tingling. I’m staring hard at the gap between the tents. All of a sudden the tent directly in front of me fills with light, bright blinding light, as though I was staring into the sun. He’s only eight feet away from me now. I am sweating bullets. I don’t know if he’ll simply run over to the next tent or look down the sides between them at me. A thousand things are rushing through my mind. Get up and run. Spray and pray. Crawl away. Log off. Stay put… Suddenly I snap out of it as the player cracks open a soda in the tent in front of me. I say to Sean “I think he’s drinking…” The torch shines, and then the direction changes. “He’s leaving the tent” I whisper to Sean. I lay there, staring so hard at the gap between the tents it starts to burn into my vision. I look down my sights. FLASH! My heart stops dead. He’s shining his torched directly at me. I stare on like a rabbit in head lights, unable to move, sheer terror sets in, I can’t see him with his torch blinding me. I don’t know what to do. I want to jump up and run, but can’t move. Then, the player turns around to face the tent behind. I feel like I’ve woken up, my heart’s beating again, my eyes blink. He walks into the tent. There’s a gun in that tent. I make the decision. I take a breath. I fire ‘BANG… BANG, BANG, BANG…’ Silence No light No running Nothing I feel like I’ve suddenly gone deaf and blind. I can only hear my heart racing, nothing else. Then Sean whispers “did you get him?” I feel sick. I just killed someone. I killed him and now he’s gone. A fellow survivor, his character, his journey, ended in a flash. He didn’t know I was there. He had no idea what his presence was doing to me, the mental stress and anxiety it was putting me through. He was innocent, and yet I shot and killed him. This environment, this game or anti-game, this thing made me do something I never thought I could do. *Some of you may feel like I’m over reacting, I may well be. But I don’t play DayZ like a game. I don’t see what happens in this game as gameplay. For me, it’s an experiment, a social study to see how people react to each other under stress. If I don’t need to kill others I won’t, especially when there’s permadeath involved. I slowly walk over to his body. Sean asks again, “did you get him?” I reply quietly “yes” Remorse has hit me hard. I look in his bag. A chill hits me, travelling down my spine. He’s been playing for a while, I can tell. He’s an explorer judging by his gear. I feel like I’m wearing a lead jacket. I close his bag and whisper “sorry”, turn and walk back over to Sean leaving his gear on him. We check the area for anyone else and then head into the woods behind the camp and over the back of the hill towards our objective, the shop. Surprisingly, we find the matches. Mission complete, but not in the way I wanted. Feeling overwhelming guilt, I head back up to the top of the hill, pitch a tent and log off for the night. If you’re reading this, SAWYER, I’m sorry I shot you in the military camp of Stary Sobor last night. I hope you made it back to get your gear. I was thinking of the situation today, and a cold thought hit me; by having his torch out he was technically unarmed. And as such I could have approached him and warned him off without killing him. However, I later realised that he could have had a weapon with a tactical light attachment. Because I only glanced in his bag I can never know for sure. I still feel guilty now.
  4. Nox, you moaned SO much that towards the end of your time on the forum, I'd log on and see you moaning about this or that and immediately logged off again. You are a nice guy, but you just ignored the signs of two stressed admins and continued to go on and on about yourself. We had just spent two days clearing up mess left by two cheaters and all you could do was whinge about you not having access or your gear getting lost from glitches or whatever. If you had just had some patience you'd probably still be on the server mate. I have no problem with you, but you seem determined to let your negative attitude get the better of you. If you're not complaining about something, you're arguing with others, even if you see it as "banter", the people you bickered with didn't. You were there from the start, and it's a shame that it came to this, but you cannot actually believe that you didn't see it coming, especially as I've had to have words with you in the past over arguing and complaining. It came down to a vote mate, sorry but you lucked out this time. Maybe when the stand alone comes about, we can revisit this, but right now I think it'll stand.
  5. I don't see the tip here Nick? Also, "anti-hack"? Come on Nick, call it what it is. First of all you guys tell me Anti-hack is a log parser that looks for scripts that aren't meant to be in the game, then its a "simple firefox map hack" and now its suddenly an all seeing all knowing tracker. Simple fact is you used a variety of cheats on our server. As part of my strategy in catching you and your clan, I would use my admin panel to follow you and watch your behaviour. Sure enough, you'd react to me approaching for 3km out and retreat or get a vehicle to exfill from the Bandit Land. Just another case of you or your team being killed and getting bent out of shape about it. Just like when Ted killed you all. This makes me laugh, your timings are getting longer and longer. You previously said Ted waited 20 minutes to finish off the last two of your team, and now say that it was 25 minutes, and stays a few minutes more to kill the last. There was 10 minutes between the first and second, and this is what is known as "camping". There was just over 1 minute between the 2nd and 3rd. There was not 1000 meters around either. You work it out mate. The kill feed I showed you showed the coordinates. The first two were close enough for a kill with the M4 SD (approximately 100 meters) and you were killed about 250 meters from him with his DMR (unzoomed he told me). He was hardly a noob Nick. Two of the three he killed were running towards him! Lastly, he didn't suddenly log off, you three DC'd about 5 minutes after this, Ted remained on for a further 20 minutes, killing another player in Berezino (who didn't p!ss and moan and call him a cheater). You have made several comments here admitting to cheating. You come on these boards and bash our server and our admin. You write slanderous comments and can provide no proof to anything you've claimed, and you still believe that we all cheat. Why don't you cut your loses and move on. Join a new server or better still use your own server, the one you said you had. The simple fact is, you cheated, you were banned, end of. Sorry to those of you who are genuinely interested in our server. It is a cool place to game. It's still young and we're still working out the bad eggs from the good ones. I hope this doesn't put any of you off. Burro.
  6. You just blamed others. You gave no reasoning behind this, which is why we didn't really do anything about it. Nick, you raged a lot on our server/forum. It was hard telling what was you being angry and what was you trying to help. There's absolutely nothing in the rules that commented on blowing up cars. We only added a rule because you and your clan instantly went into players camps on day one of the new rules and wiped out all their cars, even when they were there. You killed one of our players with a script that instantly blew up all their vehicles at once. And it wasn't proved wrong every time, we banned you with a case built up over time. They was no denying what you did. That's not being proved wrong mate, that being proved right. I already explained how Ted was able to pwn you all so won't go into it again. I can tell you were angry when writing this bit because it really doesn't make much sense. You made a post in your private forum that "some guy" had placed 2 sets of nvg's and an AS50 in a tent in Berezino. This was Ted. I told you this. You mentioned you would clear it out, save it and then destroy it. I had told you several times before that on restart servers can restore tents. This was the "known" issue you commented on. The funny thing is, you steal 2 sets of nvg's and an AS50 and then claim that that person was a hacker/duper, but fail to see that they have in fact done the exact same thing as you, they robbed others, and stored their loot in their own tent. It's not that unbelievable.. Oh come on Nick, we both know you lot had no idea. You played into our sting the way we had planned, not because you were "already done". You're only fooling yourself, with your own "flawed logic".
  7. Nick, you cannot make a statement like "here's some facts for you" and then proceed to not list any. Firstly, I never once "accused" you of hacking. Not once. Why? because I was too busy building up a case to ban you to blow it all by simply calling you a cheater. Plus that's not my style. I don't point fingers without knowing 100% that my facts are accurate. You'd do well taking the same approach. Secondly, you offered me to join you if I was interested. I wasn't. I wasn't because A) it would prove nothing, and B) I was busy watching you lot from the console. We never said we found him guilty. We didn't have the tools at the time. Your clan leader Noah Ash claimed to have undeniable proof sourced from his "friend" who made an "anti-hack" tool to list scripters, but he never came up with the proof. Drake made the poll to see what the community wanted, that is why they were removed. Jeeez.. you were not dictated to Nick. I simply asked that as a council member you composed yourself a little better as you represented the forum, the server and the administration. This was in reply to your comments about flattening another players tents and blowing up their vehicles, where you said I then pm'd you this; I personally don't see this as dictating. I'm asking you to take your role more seriously. Your clan and your response was to then create a thread in your forum stating;
  8. Not quite true, I didn't "know" anything, I suspected. This was corrected by the fact that one of our staff gave away my alias to some players while I was on. I played under an alias so I could actually get some game time in without being asked a bunch of questions or requests. I didn't say it was hacking. I said I knew there was duping happening. I also said that duping was found to be occurring on failed server restarts. I never said it was Cal's tent as this was post their removal from the server. It's one thing to cheat and not fess up when we gave you the chance, it's another to make it seem like it was a "last resort" and that you were legit before then, and so now you feel others should steer clear of our server. You're acting like a child. You're 33 years old Nick, it's about time you realise what you're doing and move on. You were found guilty of cheating. You've now confessed that. Why are you still trying to win others over and drive them away from our server? All you're really doing is embarrassing yourself and showing others that we do ban players that cheat. Yes, this was ironic and clever, but only served to prove your guilt. Don't speak rubbish Nick. We have an admin panel. We tracked you and your clan with this panel and we used the data and map display as evidence to permanently ban you from our server. You really should stop here to be honest mate. We have this data and videos of your clan tracking and flanking players from over 3km's away, all while looking directly at their target. We could, if we wanted to, provide this to Battleye to let them decide what to do with you lot, we won't though, unless you continue to bash us even after confirming your guilt.
  9. To the forum admins; apologies for the multiple posts. I had to make my response to his points, but wasn't allowed to in one post. I would normally end my reply here. I appreciate the fact that you kind of admit that your group used cheats. However you go on to say; You are such a poor loser mate. You ranted about this in your private forum; I then worked on the backend until 3:15 am going through the logs for you. I reply stating that Ted joined the server on the restart, was actually the first person in. He had last logged off in Berezino at his tents (where your clan magically cleaned out the night before) and started heading in land. He found an SUV about 200 meters in land, previously crashed, and looted it. While this was going on, you and several others joined the server. One of your guys spawned in near Ted, and proceeded to run towards the SUV, where ted saw and killed him. It then looked like Ted was camping your SUV. Sure enough a couple minutes after another person from your group came running in, looking for the downed body. Ted shot him too. Then as he was leaving, the last member of your group ran across an OPEN field towards the SUV and Ted and sure enough, Ted killed him too. You all then DC'd and failed to see his reply in Sidechat. It's not a conspiracy, it's just three players being a bit too carefree and rushing a player camping a car. If you're going to try and reference things, at least try to be accurate. You all died within 20 minutes, TOTAL! Don't believe me? I posted this in my reply to your rant. This is taken from our kill-feed (a cool feature we have). Mr P was first to die at 22:38. Corvo died while looking for his body, and you died, as you put it, by "running wild" just over one minute later.
  10. Saw this video this morning.. loved how the players at the end, shame about that one guy. Enjoy. (not my clip)
  11. Hi all! Having spent a while going through posts on this forum as well as posts, comments and articles elsewhere on the net, I think we should really look at what Day Z has to offer and what it could offer us in the future. Now I know Rocket has said in the past he calls these Zombies "infected" rather than "Zombies", and that he likes the speed and frantic movement etc, but two things to note here Rocket; 1) you called the mod "Day Z", so I would assume the "Z" stood for "Zombie" and not "Infected" and 2) you have to really give your fanbase what they want (from time to time), and so if the majority of users would prefer a slower, more classic style zombie, then really you should appease the masses, no? However, with that said you could have the best of both worlds. You could do something that no other game really has done (properly) before. You could have both types! I know, crazy huh? But hear me out here... My suggestion is fairly basic. Here's made up story or scenario to explain how things came to pass; A military virus breaks out on the island of Chernarus. The infection spreads and eventually all the inhabitants, military and civilian are infected. All but a few survivors (us, the player base). The infection causes rage-like behaviour in those that have the virus; they attack on sight, punching, clawing, kicking and basically inflicting damage and death to non-infected. Yet these infected souls are still human. They are still alive but their bodies are on overdrive. They're on a constant adrenaline rush with a burning metabolism, which explains their increased speed and movement when aggro'd. It also explains their ability and desire to furiously attack non-infected when whenever they see them. This is the design of the virus, to wreak havoc and carnage. Despite this these people are dying. They're alive, but as the virus only serves to cause havoc and death through widespread infection, the body of hosts are no longer being maintained with food, water and rest. Therefore, like all organisms, the bodies of the infected begin to die off through starvation and dehydration. After a few days of being infected, the host's body dies. But this is not the end! There was an unforeseen side effect to the virus that the makers didn't plan for. This virus is powerful, so powerful in fact that it won't stop just because the host's body packs in and dies. This virus is strong enough to reanimate the host, and in doing so bring the body "back to life". Although this isn't life as it previously was, the virus can only reanimate the body and provide the body with basic movements and functions. These bodies are zombies; they're slow, they're clumsy, they don't have heightened senses or movement, they have primitive motions. However, they still have the virus driving them, and the virus still causes the host to be aggressive and violent when a non-infected is near. The attacks from a zombie are similar to infected, though more primitive. They'll swipe, claw, punch and even bite a survivor. They'll also eat the dead, although this isn't due to anything other than it being a basic primal instinct, which was previously blocked by the virus when the host body was still alive. How this translates to the game/mod is as follows: There are two classes of infected in Day Z; Infected Humans and Infected Zombies, or simply 'Infected' and 'Zombies'. Both these classes have different appearances, movements and behaviours. 'Infected' are fast, loud (screamy), violent and have good hearing and sight. They look very similar to humans except for their bloodied eyes and screaming. 'Zombies' are slow, moany, aggressive but only in close proximity to a survivor, and their sight is limited. They look like the walking dead; pasty, bloodied bodies, missing limbs etc. Infected have human characteristics such as being able to run/sprint, navigate around simple obstacles and have close to normal vision and hearing. Zombies have primal instincts and are a lot slower, as their bodies have died; no blood flow makes their muscles stiff etc. Their awareness is a lot less than Infected but they can still see and hear things in close proximity, and are still violent and aggressive at close range. In terms of game mechanics, a basic implementation could be that there are simply both of these classes in game and the infected/zombie ratio is server controlled. With this in mind, as the mod evolves and develops, this mechanic could be come more "realistic" or dynamic, having infected dying in real time, only to reanimate 5 minutes (or whatever) time later! How I picture this is as follows; there are a handful of players a large town. There are several infected there. The players don't aggro the infected and so they're merely walking about the place. Some time passes and some of the infected begin to die. Shortly after, their bodies reanimate and they become zombies. As zombies, they're now slower and less aware (being properly dead). This would mean the infected code would need to be able to dynamically swap out for the zombie config, which I foresee to be less than simple. This isn't necessarily a problem, as having both classes of infected populate the server as standard is just as cool and could have some very nice configurations, for example; Wandering Zombies - Zombies in the wilderness, the woodlands. Alone, and randomly wandering about, having been dead for a while.. this would add a new gameplay element to survivors hiding out in the woodlands and wilderness. Zombie hordes - groups of 10-15 closely clustered zombies in larger towns or cities, wandering around together. Imagine being chases by a raging infected and then going into a super market only finding 10 zombies stumbling about, definitely an "oh shit.." moment. Zombies are stealthy - Only in the sense that they don't walk about screamy and grumbling like the Infected, making it so much easier to be ambushed or for you to stumble into a zombie when entering a building or barn. Zombies only really make a commotion when you've aggro'd them. Specific Zombie and Infected placements - Large towns and cities have both classes, but remote towns, warehouse and barns could have a higher zombie to infected ratio, making raids more risky because its harder to listen out for zombies inside buildings.. scary! Different class behaviour - You're being chased by a screaming infected. You run near some other infected, who is then pulled by the commotion of your pursuer. Whereas pulling a zombie would be easier to control as you could out run them, although aggro'ing the zombie will cause it to make a commotion, and if there's any 'Infected' near by.. well, you get the picture. Different killing methods - Infected are alive. Their bodies are still human and therefore can be stopped/killed etc. Bullets to the head or body do the job nicely. However, zombies aren't alive. Their bodies aren't working the same way they used to and so physical damage to them (melee or bullets) have no effect. Head shots however will destroy the brain, which is where the virus resides and how it controls and reanimates the body. Head shots or chops to the head will kill your zombie foes, where as body shots or attacks are fruitless and only result in the zombie making a commotion, and if there's 'Infected' near by... that's right, we're back there again. All of the above is dismissed by the use of high explosives though. RPG/Grenades/Satchel charges etc will kill all things, living or dead. These are just a few ideas. If this concept was taken seriously by Rocket and Co, I'd commit a whole host of similar examples. What do you guys think of the above? Please try to stay on point, and other suggestions are welcome but please try and keep things relevant. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Burro
  12. did you search the forums? a quick search gave me this; http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/55657-start-here-a-beginners-guide-to-dayz-servers-and-administration/ map=0; -- (0,1) Enable or Disable Waypoints on the map enemyTag=0; -- ALWAYS DISABLED - Displays information on enemy units friendlyTag=0; -- ALWAYS DISABLED - Displays information on friendly units. 13. I miss that guitar player too.. maybe the standalone could have such a feature..

    Loot questions

Does anyone have any definitive answers or explanation as to how loot works in Day Z? I've read many, many conflicting explanations and it's just getting confusing. Things I'm sure and unsure of; I'm fairly sure that loot spawns as a player passes a certain radius around the loot spot. Whether this is a standard distance or variable based on the building type or loot type is unknown to me. Loot spawns around a certain period of time (based on server loot refresh or something). Not sure what the time is exactly, I thought it was ten minutes but I've waited nearly 15 minutes in the past for junk to suddenly spawn. You need to move loot away from its spawn site for the site to spawn new loot. But doesn't this damage server performance over time if players keep farming areas like NWAF and other big sites? Will the stuff players move from the loot spot despawn ever? Despawn, does it happen? If I were to search elektro and found it just had crap, and then ran to cherno, searched there and then returned back to elektro, would the same crap from earlier be there or would it despawn while i was away (like with zombies) and respawn when i approached? Lastly; on a fresh boot of a server, are there a certainly number of loot spawn cycles before decent loot appears? I've been playing on the same server for the last 24 hours and I find after a server restart (midday) there's an abundance of 'empty tin cans' in most spawn sites i go to. Thanks in advanced.
  15. Had a go on lingor last night, it's fantastic.
  16. This concerns me too. They are a great bunch, but due to their numbers, they've already got two choppers and are able to clear 6 crash sites in a single evening.
  17. I had a moment of precognition.. Don't mess with Spidey ^_^

Day Z commander and Lingor installation

Boo! I started downloading, rocketed right through to 96% and then stopped. Wouldn't do a thing. I restarted Day Z commander and it said checking integrity or something similar, and then started downloading again. Now it's downloading at 0.5% a minute.. :(

Day Z commander and Lingor installation

Each and every time I select install for Lingor, Day Z commander crashes.. any ideas? after the 12th try it worked! woot!
  20. Please don't make me go to another server :( I miss my mini adventures..

    Loot questions

Thanks insitv, does that also mean items that spawned earlier are always going to be there (i.e. don't de-spawn)?

    Hiding bodies a Dick move?

I wouldn't care as long as the buzzing wasn't there. Currently it is there so i do think its a dick move.
  23. That's cool, I don't mind. The server is great btw. I like the addition of side chat too. As for the group iG; their debut act was to steal a chopper that I and 3 others spent 35 minutes repairing and refuelling.. absolute b*****ds
  24. I just applied. sounds interesting. Will i have my gear that i currently have on an official server? Or do you simply restart? I assume the latter (I don't know a lot about private hives).

    Big sad face..

I finally found a set of nvg's last night, after a hacker nuked me and many others last weekend, and thought to myself "log off, mission complete", but seeing that i needed food i thought I'd cook some raw meat in the woods first. Just as my steaks were finished a guy appeared in front of me with a hatchet.. "fuck" i thought.. i went to d/c but suddenly *CHOP!* my guy gets knocked out. "Nooo!" I think/say/shout! The menu ui is now locked down. I then hear the hacker laugh and say come with me, he then teleports me and the entire server to a location and nukes the player. Why didn't i log out and eat next time.. nvg's gone again. Ultimate sad face
