Hi all, If like me you like to share your experiences by writing in-depth stories for the community (as apposed to the "so today I logged on, went to Cherno and shoot a bandit. It was sweet" kind of stories (which are fine!) then I suggest (to the forum web team) that we get a "Survivor Stories" sub forum. That way players who want spend a bit more time writing up their stories, and then spending a while editing them, don't then have to simply throw them in with the 900+ other stories in the generic story thread in the General section. In addition to this, the General section won't be so cluttered, and those that complain that "There's a story thread for them" can be content with the knowledge that the stories and game experience posts would be tucked away in their own sub forum, leaving the General forum for the "I died by a @#%*ing server hopper", "hackers everywhere", "I hate pvp" etc threads :D I really back this idea (obviously) because I like to hear back from others regarding my stories, how it made them feel, whether they've had a similar experience etc, which is what I feel makes this mod so amazing. This can't be done by adding them to an ever expanding thread, any and all personal feedback would be lost in the 900+ other posts about different stories or events. It just makes more sense as stories about experiences is something that'll only grow in time, as the player base grows. Burro

Yeah that would be cool. I have a series I'm working on in my spare time based on experiences of mine, as well as one's of a friend and I. I started this series after a story post I made a while back in the General forum (http://dayzmod.com/f...i-killed-a-man/ ). The experience was actually one of many that really hit me hard, and made me really think about how your actions can affect others, psychologically and physically. I was so blown away by the feedback I received for my post, that I started logging numerous outings and drafting up stories. Having this sub forum would give me a space to share my experiences, as well as hear about others (in a more organised fashion). Also, KeepCarlm remember to cast your vote :D

I can only really see this happening when either the mod is in late, late Beta, or if Rocket makes this game a stand alone thing. But even then I cannot see him catering for it, it goes against what he set out to do. If the vast majority of the player base (and I mean 70-80%) were all behind this idea and would walk without its implementation, then I'd imagine he'd at least think about it. I'm on the fence in terms of support. I play "PVE" style on the current servers, I've only ever shot one person, through fear of dying. I stay clear of all other players, as my goal is to survive. I feel play this mod how I imagine Rocket wanted people to play it; cautiously and slowly, with a driving force alive, but also with a goal to meet and help others when its save to do so. That's just my opinion at least.

Haha, fair enough! Thanks for the vote Caviano!

Wow, poor guy. You should feel bad, you bad, bad person. <_< jk :D

All I'll say is you're in the wrong sub forum mate.

Thanks Bludy, glad you enjoyed the story. Alex, you and your mate are welcome to join Sean and I. PM me when you both play, where you're from and the times when you want to join us.

Because of what you said and how you said it. You come into a thread of 5 pages of comments and stories of others based on or relating to the original post, and all you say is "isn't there a thread for these"... Anyone with eyes can see that there is. However, I chose to put in the general forum so that readers could reply to it easier with similar stories and feedback. You could have said something constructive but instead felt compelled to just write an off topic comment and leave. Ergo, trolling. If there were as many story threads in the general forum as there are threads moaning about pvp, hacking, server hopping, ways to fix bandits, bandit hate etc then and only then would I feel your comment was something more than just trolling, but there aren't and I don't..

I met the most kind guy in DayZ so far. In cherno.

That's very messed up. I pity you. -
Wow, thanks Sincerely, I appreciate the kind feedback. I am glad enjoyed it. I've had some really intereting moments since then that I plan to write up soon.

Yes there is, a generic thread with 45 pages of stories. And what is your point friend? I wrote this in the general forum as I wanted to write a story for the community and hear back from them on their experiences and whether they felt the same, and as you can see by the replies, I got the response I set out for. I'm sorry you have a problem with this and felt you needed to troll my thread, but it is your problem I'm afraid. Unless the forum admins decide to make a sub-forum for player stories, I'm afraid I'm not going to invest the time and effort into writing a story for a generic thread so it can be lost in a sea of other user stories. Cheers. aww mate, you were so lucky :D

I know this now, but as mentioned in a previous post here, we weren't savvy with the locations in the mod, other than the well known coastal towns and the airfields. And to be honest, other than the instance where we saw another player, we've not seen anyone else in Stary Sobor, and I've been back there several times to raid the super market and tents for equipment. It can play out differently for different players. You sound like you play on servers with many other players, whereas we play on servers with around 20-25 players - for realism more than anything. And for the record; "nobody goes to look for high-end military loot so that they can kill zombies with it", this is subjective; Sean and I both raid chopper crash sites for high end gear for zombie killing. Just because that isn't your intention doesn't mean it's the modus operandi of all players.. I don't mean for that to sound blunt, it's just generalisations like that do get on my nerves. Also, angst? it's a story, I told it like a story. I'm not a teenager buddy. I don't need to be an axe wielding nutter, that's not why I play this mod.. the playing style you describe, it very much like today's younger gamer - I'm not saying you're a young gamer, but you sound like you'd rather run and gun, than play like how I describe, which is fine by me, just making an observation. Good luck finding my corpse. ^_^

Thanks matey, that's an impressive zombie tally, nice going! Shame about your 'similar situation' though :o Nice going, taking another player down is a cool thing to do in this game. Having watched your video, I don't think that random guy was a threat to you three. He wasn't responding because he was out of range of the game chat. It did sound like your friend had a little blood lust too  when he wanted to engage as the guy was running away... oh well, each to their own I guess. On a side note, you three are well brave for running out in open fields on a day server.. you wouldn't catch Sean and I doing that! If we had to cross a field, we'd do it prone and we'd do it slow.. :D Hey man, thanks for the kind words. I am more than happy to meet up with like minded players. PM me with a time, server, and coordinates and I'll make my way there... Well, I might actually recon it first to be honest ;) lol - i can appreciate that, though I would have fallen back to cover personally. I really hate discharging a weapon in a town.. just too risky :D That sounded intense.. you boys had a crazy fire fight from multiple directions, and you managed to push out and go on the offense.. good going. Tragic how you all died though. At least it was in Elektro, so you could recover your items. Thanks for sharing Patterson! haha - mate, it was a tense moment... he could have had a glock 17 with attached torch.. I just didn't know for sure. He could have seen me when he lit me up, realised I wasn't shooting, having noticed the rifle behind him in the tent seconds before, decided to make a dash for it, grab it, turn and shoot me.. I couldn't risk that.. I had to do what I had to do.. :(

Hey, thanks mate. Its hard trying not to kill when others simply open fire on you. But tbh, i feel this is actually very close to how things might turn out in an apocalypse type scenario.. still, good to see you're not like that!

What if we there was a Day Z battle recorder/theatre mode?
fearz0r posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I was talking to a mate the other night while cooking some meat on our camp fire in the woods. An idea arose when I mentioned how funny it would be if we were being watched, or if there were a group of other players literally over the other side of the hill. While this mainly served to create paranoia for the two of us it also got the old cogs turn in my noggin'. After some thought I asked Sean "Wouldn't it be cool to have a way of floating around the game world watching other players and what they're up to?", after a brief moment of silence, he exclaimed "OH MY GOD YES!". *Now I'm not talking about no-clip mode or some strange spectator mode, because frankly they'd be a bit boring and too much like 'cheating'. My thoughts behind it were more like being able to play a server captured video of say the last hour or two of gameplay. Imagine a Battlefield 2 Battle Recorder or Halo 3 Theatre mode but for Day Z! We continued talking about it, coming up with funny scenarios like watching a fresh spawner being chased along the the coast by a mob of infested, or watching a bandit sniper in a tree line camping, completely unaware of the small group of heavily armed bandit hunters walking through the woods 100 feet behind him. Or, in our case, watching us sitting at our camp fire unaware that 200 feet over the hill were a group of 6 bandits in their camp cooking their meat and wiping the blood off of their recent looted items.. I realise that in many cases this would probably result in 30 or so players on a server all being a good few miles apart from each other and as a result no "real" action might occur, but personally I'd find it quite enjoyable just to be able to watch what other players get up to, and how they play the game. And on the flip side, there could be days where you're in the most epic fire fight or foiled ambush attempt that you can get to see how it all happened, from beginning to the end via a Day Z theatre. There are obviously flaws in this functionality that need to be considered, for example player camps. If unrestricted, it would allow anyone to float around the map searching for camps. This wouldn't be a good player experience (for the camp owner), although this does already happen in Day Z by way of chopper surveillance. A counter to this could be that players in the theatre mode aren't clearly marked or identified, meaning that you'd have to literally spot them from the floating camera position. There could also be server side settings that allow or disallow the theatre viewer to snap-on to another player in 3rd person. If disallowed, the theatre mode would only allow the viewer to view the game world from a floating camera, say 20-30 meters in the air. This would potentially allow clever players to hide their camps in woodland areas and prevent theatre viewers from finding them (easily). Another exploit prevention mechanic could be to limit the speed that the viewer's camera can move to the speed of a sprinting character, but would allow the theatre viewer to enter map grid locations to travel to other areas of the map so they could at least check out hot spots throughout Day Z (NW airfield, Cherno etc). Before you all criticise this post/idea, I want to state that this is all pie in the sky. It's just a thought. I wanted to share it with you guys to see if there was any real interest. And if there was, how best could it be developed so that the game wasn't detrimentally compromised in any way. Obviously this isn't something I think we need at this point in development, but down the line this mode would be excellent. Imagine the stories + video you'd see on the forums! What do you guys think? Battlerecorder demo: Halo Theatre demo: -

Thanks for the info Lok. Burro (Btw, "Regardless of whether its a good idea or not" not sure why you put this at the start of you post, wasn't really necessary in my opinion) -
For God's sake, SAY SOMETHING!

Spot on. I was going to give a constructive response to try and help the OP, but after reading his post-turned-rant I've decided not to. -
Nice post. thanks for sharing.

It would be nice if there were two separate sides...
fearz0r replied to DirtySurvivor's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This. He (Bribase) gets his opinion across without being a moronic troll, like some of the other posts above. DirtySurvivor, I see where you're going with your idea, but it would (like others have pointed out) kill the game in more ways than one. These things need to come about naturally (or organically, as Bribase put it), and it be a mutual understanding amongst a group of survivors as they're the ones that basically change in your idea. -
Exactly.

Zombies: What do you guys want in future updates?
fearz0r replied to fearz0r's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Thanks for taking the time to reply. Thankfully your response was brief enough to hold my attention. If you took the time to read my post instead of immediately dismissing it with a "tl:dr" comment (which is pretty rude. I don't mind people not reading it, but stating that they couldn't be bothered to read the original post but then expecting others to read and listen to what they have to say is absurd) you'd actually find I suggest both fast and slow zombies, zombie hordes and harder to kill zombies. Anyhoo, thanks again for chiming in. -
Hello and welcome! TheFired3mon has more or less nailed the initial tips, I have a few more; Trust no one. People shoot on sight, mainly because they fear you'll do the same. Don't run unless in thick woodlands. Running in the open will; aggro zombies from a far, make you sniper bait. Crouch walk or prone crawl across roads, stone paths and metal gangways. Don't fire a gun unless you have plenty of ammo or unless you have absolutely not other choice. Hatchets are the best start out weapon; they're silent at killing and don't have ammo dependencies. Woodland areas have Deer towers, these spawn better weapons and equipment but will have an entourage of zombies guarding it. please enjoy your stay.

Zombies: What do you guys want in future updates?
fearz0r replied to fearz0r's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Nice, thanks for the heads up. I followed a few bits, but it's hard during the day (being that I'm at work). I agree, stability is key. However, Alpha is here to get in new features and content, get that content stable and then beta thoroughly through Beta. But one thing at a time, Rocket's got his hands full with many other things, suggestions like this are lower priority really. If he gets around to doing something like this in the future, great! Yeah, that's where I was going with this. -
wow, you're certainly not trustworthy. I am glad you felt remorse though, it shows you still have some humanity. Next time I'd suggest just pointing your gun in his direction as you leave via the back door.

Does the community want DayZ to become harder?
