My honest opinion of Day Z (And message to the creator)
Arnie (DayZ) replied to d4rk51d3x's topic in New Player Discussion
The OP is missing the point of this game. This game is not supposed to be fun. There is no fun content in it. The only fun you have in here is the fun you create yourself through your experiences. Even when you are having fun with friends that can end in 2 seconds if some guy who spawned 30 minutes ago got the drop on you with a lee enfield making you lose all your gear you spent 5 gaming days to collect. -
how many murders ahve you guys got?
Arnie (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
But you also get to enjoyt that gear less long if you hang around in those places for too long. M107 good as new, only had 4 previous owners. Here is a statement that is true for this game. "easy come, easy go" -
DMR mil dots for CLOSER targets
Arnie (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Jesus, doesn't anyone in this game know how to use a scope. First of all holding the right mouse button to zoom in is stupid. Holding the right mouse button makes you hold your breath to steady the shot, if you hold your breath too long ya well... accuracy bye bye. The default key for zooming in with your scope without holding your breath is the numpad + key. You an also press the numpad - key to get a wider viewing angle looking over your ironsights / scope. Mildots. Download the shooting range and experiment for yourself with it if you are in doubt instead of asking people or if you think the resolution you play your game at affects the aim. Can you use a zoomed scope as a rangefinder ... yes. zoom your scope in, put targets at a 400 500 600 700 etc and meassure how tall they are, zoomed. Its not "rocket"science (sorry for the pun there rocket if you should be reading this.) Are the mildots the same on every scope, unzoomed they should be. Fully zoomed they should not be since it depends on the magnification the scope gives you. If you really want to understand mildots you can start here. http://www.mil-dot.com/media/1027/the_derivation_of_the_range_estimation_equations.pdf Hope this was helpful. -
DMR mil dots for CLOSER targets
Arnie (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You can download a shooting range mod for arma from armaholic and make your own rangetable, its what I did. The crosshair servers are bad enough when you get the range of your target handed to you on a platter instead of having to use the mildots to calculate the range of your targets. Hence I don't play on those. I'm not sharing my tablebecause its easy enough to do yourself. I get shot at enough and I would not like to get killed because of my own efforts to set up a table by someone who is not able to figure out himself how to work mildots. Hope that was helpful. -
Cant even get close to a town without being killed?
Arnie (DayZ) replied to Wheatleyy's topic in New Player Discussion
Wrong towns if you are getting killed by players Not stealthy enough if you are getting killed by zombies. There are no deer in town, so there are no deerstands in town. My advice, spawn, head north, raid deerstands and barns. Barns first.Once you have some food and a gun the worst part of surviving is over. Its only the initial part when you are on a deadline because of your food and drink bar going down that this game is hard. Oh and before you say that you don't know where north is because you don't have a compass. Use the sun to navigate. Happy hunting. -
PvP kills: what % would you do for real?

Reducing accuracy drastically
Arnie (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That is true. However have you ever fired an assault rifle with ironsights at a target 200m and even 100m away after running. I promise you its alot harder to hit something than it is ingame. I've used he FNC the FAL and the minimi (SAW) using ironsights only and i can promise you that unless you are prone you probably won't even shoot anywhere near the target at 200m. Every baseballcap wearing tourist in arma in dayz can pick up an assault rifle and use it like they are profesional marksmen. -
PvP kills: what % would you do for real?
Arnie (DayZ) replied to Stukov's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If there was a zombie apocalypse here in Belgium you'd not even find a slingshot, a double barreled shot gun would most likely the best you'd realisticly find and it would be extreme rare loot. -

Server with low player count, to one with hight PC
Arnie (DayZ) replied to CerebralZombie (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
I shared your logic of the low player count servers untill a friend and myself got killed by a group of 6 on a server with 8 people on it in total. It was nighttime too and we were pretty far up northeast nowhere near a city. Coincidence I guess to bump into them there at night. If someone is cheating and the server is full then at least you are not the only possible target. -
US 236 God Mode, Teleporting, Hatchet bastard
Arnie (DayZ) replied to dimak415's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I actually stopped playing because this happened to me two deaths in row on a 5 and 7 day old character. I've been playing at 22 fps tho and i'm afraid the temptattion of playing it on a capable machine will be too big next week when the parts for my new computer get here. -
Barns, barns and more barns till you have a gun and some ammo, barns have food too. Then residential areas deer stands and supermarkets Next a hospital Finally military targets. Or you can just gamble and go straight for the military ones. I like the Stary sobor gamble there is a supermarket there too.

Zombies at Helicopter Crash site...
Arnie (DayZ) replied to david6789's topic in New Player Discussion
we once looted a helicopter without guns. We being 2 people. It was getting dark and we threw road flares to draw the zombies away. First flare zombies get drawn to it, next flare a bit further and a bit further till you are clear enough to loot. Oner person watches that the zombies don't come back, other person loots. -
Right alot of new players seem to post this game is too hard, its hard, yes too hard. No. Don't get me wrong I am in no way an expert but I do think I'm good at the initial part of the game. Surviving and getting equipped. To give some truth to that claim I can tell you that the only time i died fast was on the first character i had, all my other ones have made it at least past the 3 day mark. So how do you do it. 1. survival. You are good when you spawn your food and health are green, you have bandages. Your biggest problem at this point are other players. The coastline and the big cities along it are either going to be full with people who don't have anything. They are useless to you. People who have nothing to lose and play this game like an fps, those are even worse. And players who are well equipped and want to kill stuff. That groups is the worst of them all at this point so get away from the coast go north. How to go north. - log in, look at the bottom right corner of your screen it gives you your location, it pops up fast so if you missed it, relog so you get to see it again. - Find an online dayz map, find your aproximate location - Orientate yourself you should see the ocean. For example if you spawned at kamyshovo and put your back to the ocean you are facing north. - Once you have a facing look at the shadows. If you are facing N and the shadows are to your right the sun is in the west. More importantly you now always can find N again by using your shadow. - Head north. 2. Getting equiped - using your new makeshift way of orientation and the online map you should roughly be able to tell where you are going. - If you come past barns that are open on both ends, check them out. Barns can have food, drinks and weapons like the lee enfield, the shotgun or the winchester. - Keep going N till you cross a road, if you hit a road fairly fast keep going till you cross a second road or powerlines. Reason i'm saying to cross 2 roads or a road and powerlines is that you want to be far enough landinwards and not paralell to the coast when you make your way east or west. - You should now be far enough N to have dodged the worst of the player killing. - follow the road or the powerlines, they always lead to a built up area. - read the sign of the village - locate yourself on the online map and try to plan your route to medium / high value agricultural targets especially if you havent found any yet.(more about that later) - Get going your food and water are ticking away. 3. Looting and zombies. - when you are unarmed and in doubt, crawl. - if a zombie does agro you leg it there are two ways to get rid of em. Either go up a steep hill ( you have to zig zag there to keep running, zombies will go up in a straight line making it impossible for them to run ) or lose em in a building. Buildings with only one entrance are suicide traps at this point in the game. - NEVER loot buildings with only one way in or out unless you have a gun - Barns are your best target in the beginning of the game. - If you see zombies in the middle of nowhere it will usually mean there is a deerstand around, those are also fairly safe to loot and they sometims get you a nice gun or a map early on in the game. 4. Combat you should have some kind of boomstick if you are still alive at this point. Don't use it unless you have to Shooting draws zombies and shooting draws other players. People in this game do one of two things when they hear shooting. They move towards the gunfire or they move away from it. Trust me, the ones moving towards you probably do not do it because they are short one guy to play poker with. - the louder the gun the more agro range, firing a lee enfield at a zombie will bring the entire town down on you - do NOT fight zombies outside unless you have to. -if you do have to fight zombies outside and they get ontop of you, run backwards while facing them and take them on one by one. Zombies have to stop to hit you. So what happens is they run upto you, and stop to hit you. You move back, Zombie has to run again, stop, run stop run stop. If you do it right you will avoid alot of hits. - Run into a house or a barn, zombies can't run inside and you can pick them off as they enter - Stand in the middle of the room, some zombies hit through walls. - Use your pistol if you have it and go for headshots unless you are using the .45 1911 or the revolver. 5. What next. You should have a few cans to drink now along with some food and you should be armed. Time to upgrade your equipment - Next targets: High priority: residential low/med/high value and supermarkets to get a bigger backpack, bandages, painkillers, map, compass, matches, waterbottles, more food, etc. Medium Priority: Deer stands, military camps, helicopter crashes to get better weapons. Medical facilities for med supplies. Low Priority: Stary sobor area / airfields (very high chance of dying there to other players. Good luck :)

Survival guide for new players.
Arnie (DayZ) replied to Arnie (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
Damn this place is active, already on page 3 ! I know its not nice to bump your own posts but someone just told me they had trouble finding it so here goes. Bump Sorry ! -
I posted a new players guide on here yesterday, I'll bump it. Alltho I'm normally not quite narcistic enough to bump my own posts.

Have you considered that someone might be getting bad fps because their computer is seriously outdated and simply lacks the power to pump out more fps ?
-
Ram depends on your mobo and mobo only. Assuming you are running a 64 bit OS if not you'd have to do some registry tweaking.
-
I ordered parts today, as of today the price of the 7950 dropped 50$, also 750W on that is overkill as it won't pull over 500 W even under a severe overclock and with a second card in crossfire.

The spacebar is a nice key to map something to aswell in arma singleplayer you mostly use it for interacting with your AI squad, something you won't be needing to do in DayZ

Spawn points for boxes of matches? Help!
Arnie (DayZ) replied to MaskedBaboon's topic in New Player Discussion
best bet is to get to the NE hospital in berezino its on the outskirts of town if you approach from the west, instead of looking for matches you can just loot a couple of bloodpacks. If you never raided a hospital before i'd recommend looting the stuff outside and NOT breaking the glass while you are so low on health. -
open fields have animals. Remember that you need a knife, a hatchet (or wood), and matches to harvest the meat and cook it. You can't eat it raw. What do you mean you have no compass so you ended up in elektro again. Navigate using the sun and your shadow.
-
Kill an animal Cut the meat from it make a fire cook meat Eat meat. 800 something blood back for every steak you eat. Need. Axe. Matches. Knife. An animal. A tree. And someting to kill the animal with unles you use your axe.

Since you don't strike me as the overclocking kind. Vid card: Radeon 7950HD Cpu: Core I5 3570K Ram: any cas 9, 8gb kit DDR3 1600mhz and upwards will do it (2x4gb) mobo: Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 600W and upwards power supply. you can pick the other components yourself. maybe an entry level coolermaster HAF case, nice and easy to build in Transfer your HD if you want to save money or get a 512 mb or 1TB one Transfer your dvd / cd / bluray whatever you are using Done. Should last you a year or 5 if you upgrade the video card in a year or 2
