Hackers - UK25 - Some way of monitoring vehicle location
masterjts replied to Aoridian's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Odds are it is one of the hundreds of other players that play and they just stumble across your vehicles. There is NO way to hide anything in dayz at the moment. There was a guy who used the map hack to make a movie of player movements over a well populate area (I think it was taken down recently) that showed about 80% of the map was well traveled by players. The few places that would not normally see heavy traffic see it because everyone thinks those places are well hidden but in reality the fact that they are good hiding places on paper make them poor places to hide things in real life. -
It does make a difference in game as if you shoot someone and they stumble off into the bushes you can get direct feedback if they died or if they are still alive which is just as bad as the kill message. There should be a 30second-5 minute random time added to when the kill happens and when it is broadcast over coms. Or it should be removed.

I think if you disconnect while bleeding you should die instantly. I ran into a guy with a gullie suit, allace pack and a DMR. He killed a squad mate and was moving to loot his body when I opened up with an ak74. He took a few rounds, lobbed a grenade and tried to bandage himself. I then hit him a few more times and he was obviously bleeding out. He then fell over like he was passed out and I advanced to get a killing shot and then he faded into the ground (probably alt-f4 or killed it with the task manager). 15 minutes later I am killed by the same guy in a gullie suit, allice pack and dmr as I am shot at close range when he logs into the game right next to me. Something really needs to be done about this as it is ruining the game for everyone who isnt using it to cheat to stay alive and get kills.

Do dead players turn into zombies?
masterjts replied to zecele's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Except the zombies in the game are not dead people they are infected people so if a zombie kills you and you die then you are dead and not infected. It would be better to just have the zombies infect you on a chance hit. -
Join a steam chat group for your server, or join your server's ts channel or join an irc channel. I hated all the crap that went on over global and side chat and it really distracted you when it kept rolling chat after chat that took up the whole screen. I am glad it is gone.

DayZ 1.7.1 Discussion - Others will be locked/deleted!
masterjts replied to Tigerr13's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
1.7.1 is overall an improvement for the game but there are a few minor problems. 1) Flashlight: The flashlight needs to start in the player's hand. The first reason for this is that you can not pick up gear without the flashlight in your hand. The flashlight enables the aim reticule (even if it is hidden on a veteran server) which is used to highlight gear, doors and etc. The context menu wont come up without the aim reticule enabled and it wont be enabled without the flashlight in hand. You said that you didnt want everyone drawing attention to themselves as noobs by running around with a flashlight in hand. Honestly, you are a noob if you DONT equip your flashlight immediately on spawn in since you cant even climb a ladder or open a door without it. Personally I would rather you give everyone a pistol and one clip but if that is not going to happen at least move the flashlight to the player's hand. We had a few new players with us last night and after ragging them about poor timing (yesterday would have gotten to 10x the starting gear lol) we proceeded to explain the inventory. The first thing we learned was that a new player has no clue you can even open the backpack. Most thought the backpack slots were to the right of the backpack so they figured their backpack was empty. Secondly they had trouble figuring out how to use the backpack and get the gear out into their hand. Then once they finally caught on they all commented, "Why not just start the flashlight in my hand, this is overly complicated." The current way the flashlight is stored is anti-new player. I have played arma since the original Operation flashpoint game was released and it took me about 10 minutes to figure out that I was never going to pick up gear with my flashlight in my backpack. If I had that much trouble just imagine how a new player feels as he cant even ask over the global channel anymore. He just wanders around the map in the dark and when he finds gear he cant figure out how to pick it up and then he dies to zombies and never plays again. 2) Bandages: You need to give at least 2 of these. This is a very common item in game and in real life as you can just tear strips of clean cotton cloth to make them. By only giving one of these you are limiting player's abilities to HELP each other and cooperate. If you are in a group and someone is hurt and he does not have a bandage you let him die because you only have one and it is for your personal use. Not only is that unrealistic it is against the cooperative nature of what the patch was supposed to produce. Personally I would give them 3 bandages each and call it a day. I hope this gets rebalanced in the next hotfix since this is a pretty major problem. You should never think it is a good idea to kill someone because they have one bandage and you have none... just because you have the only gun. Although it is funny to do so. If you can, you should think about rewriting the bleed mechanic. You should not bleed to death in 5 minutes from a paper cut just because you dont have a bandage. Obviously that will take more work so just give us a few more bandages on spawn. 3) Spawn locations: The current spawn locations no longer work. They were initially placed with the idea of a starting weapon in mind. Since that is no longer the case you can no longer start players within aggro distance of a zombie. I died about 10 times last night before I made it off the coast. 6 of those times I started within aggro distance of a zombie, 3 of those times I spawned in to a zombie already attacking me and the only time I escaped was the one time I spawned in and there were no zombies around. (they were probably off chasing the guy who spawned in right before me.) This is a HUGE problem in my opinion. If you have no weapon on spawn you need to adjust the spawn locations to be further from zombie spawns. This is another must fix for the next hotfix in my opinion. 4) Food/Water: I am fine with not spawning with food but you should allow people to spawn with water or at least a means to get water. The water bar seems to go down faster than food for some reason. (or maybe it just seems that way?) I would suggest spawning new players with an empty canteen at the least. That gives them a goal right off the bat that they can expand on as they go. (IE, I need to find a way to fill this canteen before I die of thirst. You can justify this by thinking that the canteen represents an empty plastic water bottle. These are so common these days that just about everyone could find one in an emergency. Speaking of food and water. You should think about lowering the damage you take from being hungry/thirsty. As it stand you die in about 5 minutes once you become either hungry or thirsty. Since new players dont start with anything they are going to die fast. You also wont be able to check the death stats to see deaths by food/water because at least 99% of those people are going to chance going into a town when they get critical and will die to zombies. The real kicker will come when all those players who escaped the coast last night log in tonight to their food and water flashing red. Welcome back to the coast, did you miss me? Like I said above, I suggest starting players with at least a drink or an empty canteen. Overall this new patch is a huge improvement but it has become even less new-player friendly to the point where it is impossible for new players to join without vast amounts of help. Luckily I am there to help all my friends to get in game but I am sure there are tons of people who have no one to help them and no means to get help other than posting on the forum and these (and most other) forums are NOT friendly to new players. -

The main bug we kept running into last night that we never had before was that our group would be walking along and then poof one member was standing back where we were 10 minutes ago. Is the database out of sync or something? One really bad situation happened while I was driving a van with 2 other guys and all of a suddenly I am in an open field 5+ miles away and my 2 friends are in a run away van headed for a cliff. (not that it wasnt hilarious over teamspeak but still it is a problem.) Has anyone else run into this after this last patch?

20 words or less: Spawning without a weapon
masterjts replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
YES Do whatever you want with your game. I think it will be an interesting test but honestly I think you should at least give all starting players a gun with one magazine. -
The standard 7.62x39 russian (m43) round has one of the smallest wound channel/exit wound profiles of any of the military rounds. It was not designed for killing unarmored targets like the 5.45x39 round was. Here is a ballistics chart showing the differences. Go you youtube and search for ballistic gelletin videos of people shooting rounds to see the wound patterns. The standard akm round will show the smallest wound pattern of any of the rounds. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e9/RussianWP.jpg It IS a good round though but it is designed for taking out people behind cover or wearing armor. The round was actually redesigned to specifically fix this problem and that is how you get the m67 (which to my knowledge is NOT what is used in arma2).

This thread is full of inaccuracies but considering it applies to a game engine some of it might be right. The 7.62x39 has a shorter effective range than the 5.45x39. At 200m it is moving at 1890 fps with a drop of over 14". At 300m it is moving at 1664 fps with a drop of over 34". If you compare that to the 5.45x39 (which is a lot flatter) the speed at 200m is 2340 fps and drop is ~4". At 300m the speed is 2056 and the drop is ~10". So the 5.45 is a lot more accurate. It is also designed to kill humans where at the 7.62 is designed to penetrate hard targets. A shot from a 7.62 is less likely to kill you as the bullet will most likely pass straight through you. The 5.45 is designed to tumble on impact which creates a much larger wound channel. I have no idea how the game handles the rounds though.

What does the female gender model look like? (mhm)
masterjts replied to JuniorD's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'll tell you this right now. If I go up to any female player and they sound like a man on direct chat they get shot right there. I really dont understand the whole playing as the opposite sex thing. To me it is very creepy. -
Tank traps? Uhhhhg more things for people to grief you with. The wire right now is mainly used to lock people out of buildings by placing them inside door ways and ladders so taht your character cant enter or exit through those areas. I for see lots of people using tank traps to lock vehicles into spawn locations just to grief people.

Notice: All those who get stuck at loading
masterjts replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I have had this problem the past few days. Everyone on TS with my logs right into the game and it takes me about an hour to get in. Is there a log file or something I can email to rocket to see if there is a problem? -
Humans are built for Information exchange - solution to Excessive PKing

The only thing that worries me about this is that new players will now be totally lost since they wont even be able to ask questions in game over global. I answer 100 questions every night for new players and now I dont know what I will spend that extra time doing :(
