Good thing it wasn't Kpachoctab or Bblwhoe or it would have sounded stupid...

TIL that DayZ runs much smoother on Windows 10.
brzator47@gmail.com replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
If you own a retail copy of Windows 7/8 and upgrade to Windows 10, you will end up with a retail license. Meaning you can change your motherboard. If it's an OEM license and you do the upgrade, it remains tied to your PC. -
Difference between standalone and mod?
brzator47@gmail.com replied to hansanitizer's topic in General Discussion
The difference is that the mod is still better at most things the standalone was supposed to fix. Because shooting things is the only thing that could possibly be fun ever... -
I still think there should be no "base building" at all. The main problem I have with the idea that building anything should take a lot of time and effort is that you turn the game into something it's not. Barricading existing structures does make sense but not from gameplay perspective, way too many problems with it. Tents/small stashes is where it should be at IMO.

Not a bad suggestion really. NO ONE needs the extreme gamma settings. If you do you should throw that monitor in garbage for the good of your own eyesight. Yes, you could achieve similar effect with GPU/monitor settings but most people wouldn't because they either don't know how or wouldn't be bothered. Some people put a piece of tape in the center of the monitor for "handmade crosshair". Most don't.

Except that's utter BS made up to make people feel better about the development. It's been more than 2 years since the game entered closed alpha testing alone. We all know when the original November 2012 release was missed that they decided to do bigger things with the game but they didn't just scrap everything they had done at that point, and even if they did, it's still much close to 3 years in development than 2.
-
What does release date have to do with anything?
-
The worst thing about DayZ is that 3 years into development, it still feels like a much inferior game to the mod in nearly every way possible. That makes it hard to pick just one thing but the ridiculous running speed is the first thing I notice whenever I come back to the game and it does my head in.

Whatever happened to the zombie increase promisses?
brzator47@gmail.com replied to kumando's topic in General Discussion
It seems the 'Z' does stand for 'zero' after all. -
When they actually add zombies to this game...
brzator47@gmail.com replied to Jimmy McNulty's topic in General Discussion
It's funny how we all thought the same when we were playing the mod and standalone was announced. Man, when they make zombies better, add more of them, give players incentive not to KOS, this is going to be one hell of a game! And here we are almost 2 years later... -
PSA: Game development takes a while, but...

Wat? Of course it is. -

No difference here whatsoever. -
Am I the only one who thinks the mod had better atmosphere?
brzator47@gmail.com replied to Sperglord's topic in General Discussion
It definitely did. Ambient music in the mod was amazing and there was a lot more zombies which were scarier and more dangerous. SA is too colorful and happy looking. -
Anyone else excited for persistence and barrels?
brzator47@gmail.com replied to billyangstadt's topic in General Discussion
Yes, looking forward to small stashes. Hoarding useless junk was one of my favorite playstyles in the mod. Tents in standalone are nonsensical so I've never used them. -
That sounds so different to regular DayZ Mod gameplay.
-
Muahahah. Even the very first version of the mod was a more complete game than SA is right now.

It's not really about spotting movement and "fine" does not say anything about how it compares to real life vision. The fact is, at xxx meters in real life, you would be able to see much better and much more clear than you do in the "zoomed in" view in the game. Completely ridiculous eh?
-
You're looking at completely the wrong way. It's not about achieving depth of field at all. Forget about "focusing" on an object for a second, it's not exactly what the zoom in feature is about. Playing a FPS game on a computer monitor is like like looking through a hole in a cardboard box IRL. You can't have the same resolution, size and FOV on a computer screen. If the default in game view was setup so the size of a man at 100 meters matches that of RL vision, you would end up with an extremely low FOV and wouldn't be able to see much around you. A person at 300 meters being "just as tiny is as in Battlefield" doesn't really mean anything and doesn't solve this issue. It's not about focusing on an object, but rather the ability to see, get it? There is no magic scope, zoomed in view is what our character sees.
-
It is an awful idea, because our character's vision in the default view is already poor enough compared to reality (hence the need for zooming in), blurring the edges and objects in distance would make it even worse.
-
"Focusing" on an item in the distance should not require a button to be held. It only does because it's necessary in a computer game due to already explained reasons. All the zoom in really does is effectively increase resolution and size to make up for the lack of it in the default, zoomed out view. They could make the "zoomed in" view to be the default one but then you'd have to hold the button every time you wanted to see more world around you which would be more annoying. The zoom in feature is not "magic vision", It's really not that complicated.
-
It is absolutely necessary. Being used to most other fps games people have probably never thought about this, but the default, "unzoomed" view is actually zoomed out. RMB "zoomed in" view is the view closer to reality but obviously no one would be able to play like that. It's one of the best things about ARMA series and I have no idea what they're really trying to do here. Probably reducing KOS which is really silly.
-
The whole point is it doesn't zoom in further than in reality, or it least it shouldn't. It's amazing how many people seem to have trouble understanding this. You can't make things "sharper" either, that's again the whole point. The resolution/size of a computer monitor is way too low to simulate human vision. If there was NO zoom at all, to display things anywhere close to reality the FOV would have to be ridiculously low.

Final Thoughts from an Early MOD player....
brzator47@gmail.com replied to xalienax's topic in General Discussion
Yes, it is a game. What people like you who think they understand development call alpha these days are not real alphas. Real alphas certainly don't have a couple of million players who paid in order to have a privilege of "testing". It doesn't even matter anyway, DayZ mod was an alpha as well. How's that for an excuse? -
Final Thoughts from an Early MOD player....
brzator47@gmail.com replied to xalienax's topic in General Discussion
SA was never going to recapture that feel of the early mod for various reasons. However, the reason this game is a failure in my eyes is that it has failed to improve over the mod in any area that really matters. In other words, things that made DayZ, DayZ are not better than they were even in early mod versions. Not to mention in a lot of ways the SA is actually still inferior. I bought the SA to support the development and I come back to it every couple of months to see what's new and what's been changed but sadly I don't see it ever capturing my interest in the way the mod did. All the people I used to play with feel the same way. -
I dont understand why there is no AUTO RUN KEY!!!
brzator47@gmail.com replied to Bohannan (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
Actually no. Most of it seems to be absurd realism arguments. Not having to hold your hand in an unergonomic position for fairly long periods of time somehow detracts from the experience. Okay. Put the damn auto run key in the game. Hope that's on topic enough.
