"Zombie Logging" What's your take?
[email protected] replied to -Guardian-'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Every bit as bad as combat logging IMO. Zombies are hardly a threat as it is. People just run past them as if they aren't there. And when it finally happens they are in danger of getting killed by zombies they just log out. Makes you wonder what is even the point of having zombies in there in the first place? I really hope there is a "zombie aggro" log out timer in the standalone. -
Would you quit if servers went expert?
[email protected] replied to bad_mojo (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It would be quite interesting to see a poll about this. I imagine enough people would be against it that removing the 3rd person view wouldn't be an option but then again, remember that removing the gun you used to start with was a very unpopular decision at the time as well. I wonder if it was another server option, how many servers would still have you start with a gun now. I would personally love it if all servers went expert. 1st person view is much more immersive and the pros far outweigh the cons imo. -
Standalone should have a Namalsk like environment.
[email protected] replied to koze's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Not going to happen soon but a map similar to Namalsk, with the same atmosphere but much larger and made from scratch specifically for DayZ would be great as a future addon. -
Zombie aggro should initiate the "combat timer"
[email protected] replied to sobieski12's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Although the current system is just a temporary "fix", if you can even call it that, I agree zombie aggro should initiate the timer. I was surprised to see some were against it when the feature was first mentioned in the changelog of the patch. People usually just run through zombies as if they aren't there, and on the rare occasion they are unable to escape or get hit and can't bandage themselves they simply abort. Makes the zombies even less of a threat than they already are. Being unable to disconnect while being chased by zombies would make a huge difference to the gameplay. The amount of deaths by zombies is miniscule atm really. -
Remove 3rd person or make it worse
[email protected] replied to DerrocK (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
1st person is so much more immersive and with the freelook feature, I don't mind the reduced FOV vs 3rd person view. The thing is, so many people are used to 3rd person by now that removing it is not an option. And if it's not getting removed, it means the majority of the servers will have it turned on, just like now which kinda sucks. -
The Most Overlooked Part of DayZ - What will happen to it in the Standalone?
[email protected] replied to Timberwolf (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Thousands of zombies with complex AI roaming around on a huge map isn't going to happen any time soon. Better animations, improved AI and improved pathfinding is what we should realistically expect. Really, just having zombies able to run in buildings would make them so much more dangerous. Simply sprinting your way into Cherno or Elektro wouldn't be the most effective strategy anymore. -
lol, that was hilarious. But really, what's up with his voice?

DayZ DIAF - A custom DayZ Mod I'm working on. Input appreciated!
[email protected] replied to venthos's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Yeah, if that's possible it's definitely better than insta-killing the player. I'm not really sure about removing all sniper rifles but aside from that, it sounds really good. -
"The map should be removed", LOL!

If you could change one thing about DayZ, what would it be?
[email protected] replied to colekern's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Assuming the hacking situation will be drastically improved in the standalone, which it should... The main thing I'd like to see changed is the zombies. Yeah, the animations are bad, but I'd like to see them pose a much bigger threat. I remember when I first played the mod and didn't know about zombie mechanics, trying to sneak up and find food that I desperately needed was really tense and exciting. Now all you need is one double entrance building and looting the whole village is a non issue. I mean, even if just the pathfinding issue was fixed and zombies could run in buildings too, that alone would make a huge difference. Running around like a headless chicken wouldn't be the optimal play anymore. It would surely have an affect on PvP too. -
Today I have been legitimally global banned for cheating
[email protected] replied to Thadeum's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
LOL, what choice do other banned hackers have than accept their global ban? Coming on here and writing an essay trying to justify your actions by boredom doesn't make you any less of an asshole in my book. So he was bored and started taking players in hostages but still didn't like it because for some reason it ended in "dumb gunfights". Yeah, doesn't look like he interacted with other players at all. But hey, it's fine, he admitted it and accepted his ban. Let's all give him beans for that. -
Today I have been legitimally global banned for cheating
[email protected] replied to Thadeum's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
OP, have you heard of ARMA 2? You know, that game you actually paid money for? You can fire up the editor, make your own scenario with any rules and any gear you wish so you and your friends can enjoy killing each other for as long as you want. It only takes a few minutes to do, literally. And what's up with so many "clearly u didn't read the post, he was bored" responses? Since when is boredom a valid excuse to turn a multiplayer game into your own playground? What the hell. It seems not only lots of players do already use scripts to cheat, but many would have no problem doing so if they weren't afraid to get banned. This community kinda sucks. -
Hacker Gear or Freaky Luck!?
[email protected] replied to Stiftie's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Last night someone started shooting at me as I entered the fire station in Cherno with nothing but a revolver. Somehow managed to escape with 4k blood and bandaged myself. Went to the church and as I was getting out I stumbled across a guy in front of me and killed him with the revolver. He had a ghillie suit, SVD camo with 2 mags, Coyote backpack with an M14 in it, GPS, NVG... Hacker was the first thing that came to my mind but I found it strange how he wasn't really loaded with ammo. Thought about keeping the gear at first but there is no way this guy is legit? -
Axed This Guy I Felt Bad But He Lied Then Died

You started hitting him before he even responded. Yeah, I wonder why people are reluctant to help others in this game... -
Standalone to use Arma 2 engine
[email protected] replied to Elo's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Again, RV4 is not going to be rewritten from scratch. Using your logic, that engine is going to be crap as well because it's basically a heavily tweaked engine of the original Operation Flashpoint. OMG that's 11 years old, there's only so much they can do! Most of the things people are complaining about are actually not limited by the engine at all. Some pretty good examples in this thread too. -
Vehicles.. Lets be honest
[email protected] replied to kreatura (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Playing with a buddy, we've never had problems finding vehicles. It's keeping them that we've found to be impossible so far. Every single vehicle we find is gone the next day, no matter where or how well we hide it. Even on low populated servers. No idea if they're getting stolen every time or it's a server restart thing. -
Stand alone game on new engine so...
[email protected] replied to BTT`'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Real Virtuality 4 isn't going to be rewritten from scratch, just like RV 3 wasn't either. So, no, the new engine doesn't render everything that has been done so far useless. The standalone game will use it's own branch of the RV engine, that's what people mean by a combination of both engines. -
Igraci sa Balkana, citajte ovo !

Yes. He could have posted it in English though. This way the thread is just going to end up locked. -
Rocket, Please don't. (Dayz on Console).
[email protected] replied to alcatraz968's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
LOL at people saying consoles would run ARMA 2 without problems because they can run [insert a corridor shooter here]. Go to Bohemia forums and look at threads related to ARMA on consoles and why the devs are saying it won't happen. -
Rocket, Please don't. (Dayz on Console).
[email protected] replied to alcatraz968's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Not sure what Rocket is thinking here. ArmA 3 will be PC exclusive and will stay that way. Today's consoles have no chance in hell running that. Even with a modified engine, I'd expect once the game is completed it could be ported to future consoles, but PS3/360? Very strange indeed. -
Arma 2's mechanics make dayz lame
[email protected] replied to Slobbergoat (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The engine used in ARMA is not perfect for a game like Day Z by any means. However, saying it's an outdated, "crappy" engine is extremely harsh, if not ignorant IMO. Now, it does have its fair share of problems. Namely animations and transitions between them which can be very annoying. It's not a CQC game, but movement inside buildings is unnecessarily clunky. Climbing ladders, opening and closing doors and picking up stuff is without a doubt much more complicated than it could be but you have to understand you don't actually do that very often in ARMA. I've seen people complaining how awful jumping is in the game. Yes, if you try to use it as a 110m hurdles simulator it will be terrible. The thing is, the jump action was only added to avoid frustration when going over smaller objects. It was never meant to be an actual jumping button. Game mechanics and character control in ARMA 2 do differ to other games, but the above mentioned problems aren't the only difference. Unlike other shooters, the first person view is not just a floating camera with arms and some weapon animations attached. The actual 3D model that you see from the outside is what you see from the first person as well. You actually shoot from your weapon rather than the center of the screen. This makes a bigger difference than you might think. Believe it or not, despite the clunkiness, this kind of character control is one of the things people like the most about OFP/ARMA. The thing with ARMA is, it's a huge, non player-centric game. You can place two opposing groups on a completely different part of the map to you, and they will still engage each other as if you were in the actual battle. The engine supports absolutely huge maps and features realistic ballistics. In a lot of ways it is unique to all other games out there. How does any of this make the Day Z mod any better? It doesn't, but with Day Z going standalone, it means they can very easily solve issues such as opening/closing doors and picking up stuff while still retaining the good sides of the engine. Rocket recently said they'll change the whole inventory system. Rightly so, because it is very much needed for a game like this. Sorry for the rant, I'm not trying to make anyone like ARMA. I'm just a little suprised not more people recognize the RV engine for what it is and what it does better than others do, even if military sim stuff isn't their thing at all. It seems a lot of people are of the belief that ARMA 2 is a crappy old game that was "dead" before Day Z mod came along and are quick to suggest a corridor shooter engine should be used instead. I say the underlying engine is, and will be what will make Day Z unique to all other copies that will undoubtedly come out, including War Z. -
Can we dance if we want to?
[email protected] replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Funny or not, I don't see how could anybody possibly think it would be ok to "do the scripting thing". Makes me wonder how many of the legit banned users really are legit. -
