  1. I hope motorbike helmets are not going to be very effective because seeing everyone wearing one would be pretty silly.
  2. Postprocessing effects in ARMA 2 kinda suck. I usually keep them at very low or even disabled.
  3. I've never though a nice looking GUI would be considered as "flashy graphics". I don't believe the "this game is not about graphics" excuse should be used for putting up with an ugly GUI. Personally, I don't think it's ugly. I like the simpliticy and the general layout but it does need some work to make it more professional looking. Those inventory screens are perfectly fine for WIP or alpha release but I do admit it's a bit odd to see rocket saying everything is fine the way it is and it doesn't need to look any better because that's not what the game is about. Then again, he did mention the possibility of custom UI skins in the future so who knows.
  4. Hmm, what about 1st/3rd person LOS differences? I wonder if looting is going to be too easy in 3rd person then.
  5. Looking good. The inventory/UI does need a bit more visual polish even if functionality is obviously most important at this point. That font needs to go :)
  6. Gamers really are a special bunch. You can tell those who complain about "stupidly unprofessional" devblog videos are the kind of people who are never happy with anything anyway.
  7. Hopefully no modding/private hives ever. The mod was at its best by far when there was no modding and before rampant hacking. Leave it up to the majority and you can count on the unique, harsh and unforgiving experience getting ruined. Unlike the mod, we can expect plenty of new content later on with SA, like official new maps. I don't think modding is necessary, even in the long term.
  8. The system is good as it is IMO. There will be 150 players per server in SA and more interesting places to visit meaning players will be spread out more and will be more likely to spot and steal yout stuff. Tents are already pretty unsafe in my experience, they will be even more unsafe in SA.
  9. I don't really see why the fact that running across the whole map takes time is a problem. Surely in ideal scenario, the game world would be so big you wouldn't even be able to run across the whole map in xx minutes? I don't need to visit every worthwile place in every playing session. Towns in SA will be bigger and there will be new ones added as well meaning there will be more interesting places to visit and in turn they will be effectively closer to each other. The Elektro/Cherno/NWAF only route will probably still be very popular but shouldn't be nearly as much as it is now.
  10. For me, vehicles in DayZ are more about additional content rather than a necessity to travel around. I see finding a rare vehicle, searching for parts and fixing it up as the fun part with the ability to drive around being a "bonus". With all the cool new stuff SA is supposed to bring, I don't think any temporary replacement for vehicles is needed at all. Not to mention it wouldn't make sense to waste time doing that instead of working on actual vehicles.
  11. You also had to purchase a PC to play. It doesn't mean the mod is not free.
  12. What makes you think Rocket doesn't understand what players actually want? I'm pretty sure he is fully aware what players think they want. The majority of the players want tons of military weapons and vehicles to dick around for an hour or so. It doesn't mean the game should be anything like that. They're obviously going for zombies that are much more than just a nuisance. Being core part of the game, there is no way they could reuse the same, awful zombie animations currently in the mod. 1 and 2 never stopped the mod from being succesfull. I don't really understand 4. When people say they missed their window, what exactly that means? Had they released a buggy mess with the same problems as the mod, we would have had a winner on our hands? How does that work, it doesn't make any sense to me. A fully finished DayZ standalone with MMO architecture and all basic foundation features implemented and released in December would have been ideal for sure, but if it's not ready, it's not ready. It would have sold better than it will sell whenever it comes out, but what does that mean for us players? Someone recently posted a quote by rocket saying the mod was arguably at it's best when it had 50000 players. I couldn't agree more. DayZ SA might fail but it won't be due to any of those reasons IMO.
  13. You will stick to the mod "where it all started" and yet right now the mod is absolutely nothing like it was when it started. In fact, the main idea with the standalone seems to be to capture the initial mod atmosphere with bugs and limitations of the mod removed. Rocket is not going to say f**k you to casual players but he will make the game the way he wants it to be even if it means not everybody is going to be happy and he has my respect for that.
  14. I fail to see what's so ridiculous about there being a small chance of getting one hit knocked out by zombies. If anything it makes sense for it to be there and should probably happen more often.
  15. Wait, BattlEye gave him an extra copy of ARMA?
  16. I'm thinking the same, and it won't be those who don't like the heavily modded DayZ because the standalone will not be moddable. You can bet there won't be fully repaired vehicles on every corner of the map or 100 helis around. It's not really about PvP itself. As far as I can tell, the issue seems to be that people believe anything other than shooting stuff is "a huge waste of time". I don't see it that way at all. In fact, fixing a car taking an hour or so just makes it more satisfying in the end. Searching for parts makes me check out areas and buildings that otherwise I wouldn't bother with. And even if I die, or don't manage to find all the parts, or someone shoots me and steals my car after all the "hard work", I still don't see it as a waste of time because I had fun doing it. Similar with the starting weapon argument. If I run into Elektro unarmed, I know there is a good chance I will die. So what, it's not like big cities are the only places where you can find a weapon. On the contrary, spawning in Kamenka and hitting those deer stands up north is quickly becoming my favorite spawning location. When i join a private server and spawn with a DMR, NVGs, M9SD and a fully repaired ATV next to me, more often than not I'll just go and search for some PvP action because there is not much left to do. Even if I die, it doesn't really matter.
  17. At the moment, DayZ is mostly like an ARMA mission, for people who discovered the game so late. No one wants to travel on foot anymore. In fact, a heli is more preferable than a car. Hundreds of already repaired vehicles may be fun for the first time but it really makes for a shallow experience in the long run, at least compared to vanilla DayZ. Thank god for the standalone, though I do have worries about it as well. Rocket did stick to his guns with the mod but can he afford to do the same with the standalone, with so much being dependent on the sales? Let's face it, the majority of the player base do want 24/7 daylight, 1000 vehicles, 100 choppers, starting loadouts, tanks and what not.
  18. Not a fan. A less clunky, more refined vault is all that's needed IMO.
  19. What exactly does "Backpacks updated" mean?
  20. Crosshairs are part of the engine, have always been, and they are likely getting removed. Similar with peripheral dots. Waypoints are part of the engine. Is there any reason whatsoever to have those even as a server option in the standalone? They are a really popular feature for sure considering the number of servers they're enabled on.
  21. No feature should be kept unchanged solely on the basis that it's popular imo. Especially when you consider the main reason 3rd person became that popular in the first place was the large imbalance between it and 1st person. If DayZ standalone was to be a collection of popular features, the game would end up being not much more than a casual, watered down version of the original idea. Just something to keep in mind.
  22. As long as the server name will still show up, I'm all for removing the table. It serves no purpose in a game like this.
