    DayZ is just...damn.

I find the issue comes up when playing other video games. Hell, I was playing Skyrim the other day, walked across some debrie that knocked about, and it sounded like a couple of gunshots. I instantly went to look around for the source before realizing I wasn't playing DayZ. It gets into your head!
  3. It's taken me some time to realize this, but I don't like killing other players, even if they are being dicks and killing people for the lulz. I've only killed another player three times since I've started playing. Once because I was still new and didn't want to take any chances. The second when a lone person decided to try and take on my whole group at once. And the last, when some fool tried to run me over with a car, as it was the only way I could survive. But an event a few days ago made me realize I'm not a fighter. Pretty much any enounter, even when I've had a ton of ammo, I've always always chosen to run away rather than stick around and fight. So two days ago I started eschewing the used of a primary weapon (with the exception of an axe, for zombie defense), and a pistol. I'm thinking of dropping the pistol as well, and I'm gonna try running as a medic type for a bit. I fully expect to get shot lots, but hopefully not too much if I don't have a weapon out and visable. Time to see how well this'll work out for me, and hopefully I'll start meeting other friendlies out there. I'm ready to change the pace of my game.

Just found rarest item in DayZ

Mt. Dew is doom! I found one last night, decided to pick it up.....Today, come back and the server did a complete wipe! DOOOOOM!

    Microphone not working?

I've found Direct chat, both voice and text, haven't been working for me (proven by having friends nearby to check). Makes it much harder to not kill people when they approach!

    Roadflares

Press 'F' and you'll see the top right of your screen change from your weapon to the flare. Mouse click and it'll throw. Make sure to press F again to go back to your weapon!

    New guy

Another good way to learn, is make sure you are on a recruit server. It'll pop up white circles on your screen to tell you where the zombies. It helps quite a lot while you learn how to move around the zombies and explore the map. After you've gotten a handle on how to play, you can move up to the regular or veteran servers, and test your mettle against all comers.

    Day z VS Warz SPEEDART

Enigo Montoya might need to talk to that man!
  9. Been playing for a few weeks now, and beyond my friends, I don't think I've met a single 'friendly' on the game. Every last one has shot at/killed me soon as they saw me, even when I was fresh spawn in the world. Everyone is a bandit now.

    Zombie respawn time too fast

Same here. My buddy and I were holed up in a baracks up near the NW airfield. I saw the same exact zombie spawn in the building 6 times in a row. It'd appear, we'd shoot it and it'd die, to be instantly replaced by a new zombie. We couldn't believe our eyes. And that on top of the zeds continuing to rush the main entrance everytime we'd shoot one down. That, combined with the sudden hard nerfing of the .45's made it a rather interesting time for us to escape from.
  11. Last night I finally stumbled on my first crashed helicopter! Didn't even realize it at first. Was in the town south east of Stary Sobor, and noticed there were military infected in the area. As I was running around the small town trying to lose the growing number of military that were following me and I ran past the chopper, hidden on the other side of a small set of trees. Sadly, after finaly getting free of my pursuers, all I managed to find was an FN FAL and 2 magazines for it. Still excited! It's been a quest of mine to see all the various things in the game. All that's really left is most of the larger cars (except the bus and van, of course!) Still some smaller items as well, like NV goggles, the rangefinder and the more rare weapons. Now if I can just live long enough to have them all at the same time!

    DayZ Ultimate loot find !

With that many tents and rare items, they were likely just using the duping bug to get as many as they could without having to hunt up more. I'll bet you won't see this too often after they finaly fix that issue.

    CoD players.....

The only way to survive an encounter with another player is to not have an encounter at all. EVERY SINGLE one I've had so far, running away or not, has had them shooting me. Even when I was unarmed and off the coast for less than 3 minutes. I don't play for the social aspect, so I avoid it completely whenever possible.
  14. The only way this could ever work as a PvE is if they really ramped up the zeds, either in numbers or deadlieness, or both. You can already see in videos that groups as small as 3 can easily handle the infected at their current levels. The bandits in the game are the only thing right now that make the game a challenge once you've gotten even a little experiance and gear.
  15. I still have only killed one player, but more than a few times I've 'stolen' stuff from camps and vehicles. I'm slowly learning more and how to get around, and another few incursions and I don't think I can call myself a newbie anymore. But as for the title.. On the server I play on, someone has set up a half dozen tents within easy running distance of the airfield near the coast. Not easy to see unless you're on top of it, but there non the less. I've been quietly raiding it anytime I need supplies, as the guy seems to be farming the entire area for gear. Keeps me stocked up on ammo and occasional food needs when I hit it up. :) I'm certain I could have killed the guy several times by now, as his patterns are pretty predictable, but I don't think I can go down that path. Just today, I was running along the western edge of the map when a van starts driving through the woods. Now, I was trailing two zeds from a nearby farm because I didn't feel like advertising my presence with gunshots, planning on losing them in the woods. I'm sure I ran right in front of the van not less than a 100 meters away, not to mention the two zeds, and keep on running until I lose them. I immediately take cover...and the guy in the van left it in the woods to go loot the farms I'd just left! I crept up carefully, wary of a trap but he apparently was running on his own. So I hop into the van, and take off for the deep woods in a bid to get away. And I made it! I drove several klics until I found a nice secluded place to park, got into the back seat to check the inventory and the van was loaded. Several military rifles of varying types, ammo for them and several other bits and bobs. Jackpot! So, while I had the chance to snipe that poor fool as well, I left him alone and just took his vehicle. So I'm a thief, not a bandit!

    Starting Off

I always recomend avoiding the cities whenever possible. The ONLY thing you can get (easily) there that you cant get anywhere else with less douche around is the medical supplies such as morphine and epipens. Hit up a few of the small outlying villages and head inwards soon as you have a soda, can of beans, and at least a hatchet. The rest you can find as you head up north.

Turns out I'm a Theif, not a bandit..

Just depends on where a player/group chooses to setup. Some are more heavily defended than others. This one I've been h itting up hasn't even bothered to put up fencing around his tents. Just made a big circle of them, and probably way too close to the coast to be really secure. And pretty sure it was just one player, rather than a group as the tents were mostly empty.
  18. Numinak

    People are horrible.

I carry a Sniper, but have yet to use it. Right now it gets pulled out only when I have to approach a town or city, scoping the area out for anything more hostile than the zeds. The situation hasn't come up yet, but if I ever see someone shooting an unarmed people, I'll certainly play the angel and take out the shooter. Not that I'm friendly mind you, I've threatend new players when they decided to run right to me trailing zeds.
  19. If you ever see tents set up in Electro or Cherno, AVOID THEM! They are typicaly set up by snipers to kill newbies as they come in to look at the tents. So be extremely careful!

    some not so noobish guestions

Just as an aside, I've played for nearly two weeks, and only now just saw(and drove) my first vehicle. They are very rare, hard to find so treasure it and hide it well if you want to keep it!
  21. ^This. Once I die, I'm getting a flare, running through cherno making as much noise as possible, singing in direct chat and see how many zeds I can collect and train on over to some griefer :)
  22. I'll note that Zeds can and do spawn around non-loot buildings. I've been far out in the woods, come across a shack (no loot and not enterable) and still had them spawn...sometimes right on top of me because I wasn't expecting them and had run to the building for a little cover.
  23. So today, I ended up on the southwest most part of the map (I'm a terrible navigator, as I was aiming for Electro). As I came to the edge of the map where the road ends by the water...I spied a bus! My first actual vehicle find (beyond one I saw someone driving). So carefully I sneaked up to it and saw the coast was clear, hoped in and found everything green...except it was out of fuel. I then spent the next hour running along the coast, desperately hoping to find a jerry can, avoiding other survivors in the process (mostly successfully, until an unarmed newspawn comes running at me trailing zeds, thankfully they wanted him more than me). Finaly find a can of gas and book it back to the bus. I finaly get to it and refill the bugger with the one can of gas I've got, hop in....and off the edge of the map where there are no tree's I see someone standing there! I was already in the bus so I started the slow creep to turn it around and get it to the road, and oddly enough he didn't start firing. I figured he didn't have a weapon...and just as I was about to hit the road he opened fire and I saw why he had hesitated. Coming up the road was another survivor, his friend I'm guessing. I'd barely beat them to the punch of stealing that bus! Anyways, I finaly get on the road without taking any damage and speed away, cackling like a madman as I got to drive my very first vehicle! Sadly, I wasn't aware of the secret of refilling jerry cans at that time, and even as I tried to make my way into the interior with it, I ran out of fuel, with Cherno still clearly visable. I probably would have run back to get some gas (now that I figured it out), but I had to go to work. Damn you work! So, I find and lose my first vehicle, as I doubt I got it far enough away to last until I log back in tonight. But it was fun! Nervous as hell expecting to get shot, but fun! Guess I'll be sticking to the coast more often after this!

Starvation and Dehydration are Coming on Quick!

If you don't have canteen or meat, save one can of beans and a soda, but always drink/eat one of each before you head out of a town. It'll help you last a little longer between towns when you start heading north.

    The game Taunts me!

I had just snuck into a town on a food supply mission (I was having nil luck finding livestock to kill). Snuck into the store...and found no less than 3 maps and 4 binocs! If I had had any room at all I would have stuck them all in my pack, but as it was I had to console myself with just an extra of each. Also, I found a tent in the church across the way. My first!...Now I have no idea where I want to set it up, since being Lone wolf right now I have no need to stay in one spot, and I'm so far north that the time spent running for it would just be better spent looting. And the closer to the coast I go, the better the chance it'll get discovered and looted. Oh well, I'm having fun! Just need to find a 'trustworthy' person to run with! My nerves are getting shot having to watch everywhere at once!
