I know very little about hacking in DayZ, how diffcult it is or how prevalent it is. I have been in servers where I suspect hacking has occurred, but it seemed to target either vehicles or all of the players on the server. Either way it didn't ruin the game for me, I don't expect to be able to hang onto vehicles and my stash remains untouched after two months of play. Still having fun, still getting a rush, still looking for bicycle :)

My concern about DayZ atm (look please)
Kellanved replied to johnnyfirs's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There has only been a handful of times when I have run into another player and they haven't opened fire immediately. The 1st was on the day I started playing DayZ, me and a friend spawned in and met up with each other in Kamenka, another player spawned near us (on the beach) and we started talking to him. The another time I logged into the server just north of Electro, saw someone else running about 200 metres away, he shouted "friendly, friendly" and carried on running, not that I would have shot him. Like I have said many times on this forum, I survive because I either run from other players or shoot them onsite. DO NOT yell friendly, DO NOT make yourself noticed by anyone. Makes friend in real life or on the forums then play with those guys, survivors in DayZ will shoot you; survive by not taking chances. -
In Praise of DayZ, More is Needed!
Kellanved replied to Kellanved's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I agree that the zombies could be more of a challange, once I worked out that if I knew exactly where I was going I could simply run through all the zombies, get into the building I was heading to and lose most of them once inside, the zombies became more of an annoyance than a challange. But the real challange is the other players, spotting them before they spot you, running from or killing them before they get you is what makes my adrenaline spike. Wish I could find more bicycles as well, I'd love to have a bike ride with friends across Chernarus. -
The forums are used by lots of people to raise issues and complain about things, every forum is like this, well at least every forum I’ve ever been on but there are not enough posts full of praise and/or highlighting what’s so good about DayZ. So I’d like to make one. As Rocket has said, this game is not so much a game as it is a social experiment, I can see how this is true but is doesn’t explain why I’m so hooked on it. I’m not a psychology student, have little interest in sociology and generally dislike ‘other people’ or at least ‘other groups of people’. DayZ strikes me as a giant prisoner’s dilemma experiment (http://en.wikipedia....isoners_dilemma) with guns, zombie and baked beans thrown in for good measure. I’m sure you’re all familiar with this, work together and all profit, betray and you profit but others suffer, all betray and all suffer. Hands up, how many people started playing DayZ, said ‘friendly’ to the 1st or 2nd person they met in game, got betrayed and then never trusted another person? That the game is quite hard initially got me very enthusiastic (I like difficult games, it reminds me of my childhood), that it was trying to be as realistic as possible (apart from being able to run all day over rough terrain) made me break my general rule of not playing FPS games anymore but it was definitely the player interaction that has kept me in game, raiding, collecting, exploring and breaking my legs. I have read some posts on this forum from people who don’t like other players killing them repeatedly, - who does? - and want the dev team to do something about it, they call these players assholes, douchebags, COD kiddies and Tottenham fans but, from my perspective these players keep the edge that this game has acquired. Without them behaving the way they do – i.e. like bandits – there wouldn’t be anything to play for in this game. Without the treat of losing everything what’s the point in gaining anything? Without the knowledge that there might be a sniper on top of that there residential building, where’s the thrill in raiding a military camp and finally finding the gear you’ve been after? I could go on and on about why I think DayZ is brilliant, I’m really looking forward to the future and am glad I am a part of this project at the stage it is currently in. If I was to gripe then the only gripes I have are the hacking and to a much lesser extent the alt+F4’ers. Disconnecting I can deal with, since I am not a bandit I tend to run from other players (which I why I have lots of stuff and don’t die often; why I survive) but the hacking does need to be fixed sooner rather than later, after all, it’s a bit pointless is we are all in the matrix but some players can spawn as Neo. Keep up the great work Dev team and don’t let the bastards get you down.

Checked out your website and you seem like an organised good bunch of players. I'm un-decided, I play with my friends IRL, although they are online at radically different times as we all work different hours, even though this is a pain I think it's the best experience I could have playing DayZ. I'm not sure I could get nehind your grouping structure, I am a survivor but will take a DMR with me when raiding, I scope the place and kill anyone hanging around before looting the place, under your rules this would make me a bandit and I would be pigeon-holed into always being a bandit. Small concern but still...... I might join you guys, 32, got a camp still un-discovered after a month but find myself online on my lonesome quite a bit, qwould be nice to try something a bit more organised. -
Even that dosen't always work, my friend (known him IRL for 10 years) accidentally axe'd me in the face yesterday! That's like 'accidentally' cutting off your head whilst shaving. He was trying to give me blood and instead of using middle mouse, used left mouse and THWOCK, respawn at Electro :)

Vehicles seem to be a strange one for me, the first week of playing my group got about 4 vehicles, a GAZ, ATV, BUS, tractor and some something that looked like a Skoda. The ATV rolled for no reason far from our camp, we couldn't right it again so gave up and lost that one, the Bus got destroyed by a sniper killing two of us who were joyriding around inside. The Gaz and Skoda both disappeared around the same time that the server we were on had troubles with hacking. Someone was doing something to the server because all players were suddenly spawned 200m up in the air and dropped to our deaths, this happened twice. Afterwards both cars had disappeared and didn't respawn in their usual places. I suspect - although can prove nothing - that hackers stole the vehicles by examining database code and determining where they were, then they spawned and stole them. This has been reported before by the community but like I say I have no evidence and so both cars have simply disappeared into the ether. I also have a sneaking suspicion that vehicles are being stored off of the map, which obviously needs addressing if true, I'm half tempted to go north to the edge of the map and run east to west looking for a collection of cars, bikes and heli's. Of course both cars could simply have been stolen legitmately by other players, after all, I found one of them 'deep in the woods' which is actually a silly place to put vehicles 'cos they stand out a mile away when you are running though the forest, found the bus and tractor in the woods as well. Going for a bicycle next, cheap, fast, no fuel and easy to hide but if the hacking thing is true then don't store vehicles near your main camps, don't want some scumbag spawning onto your car then running over all your tents 'cos they were right in front if it.

I only play on veteran servers because of the ease of sniping on recruit, I've been playing about a month now and had all of the experiences mentioned above. Some players are friendly and me and the guys I play with have had some good times with randoms, some shoot onsite and some are douchebags who shout 'friendly' and then axe you in the head. Lol, some guy came running up behind me and a friend I was babysitting last night, he didn't announce himself just came running up to us and stood there; so I emptied a magazine into him, better safe than sorry. These days I have a strong camp in the north and spend my time raiding places like the NW airfield, Berezino and Stary Sobor. It all seems to go down at the military camps, although NV googles only seem to spawn at the NW airfield and heli crash sites. Berezino seems to be a nightmare these days on most servers, the military camp is over-looked by some residential buildings so every bugger has a DMR. Well if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. I raid with a DMR these days, spend ages scoping out the area and nail anyone I happen to see about, as you can imagine this is pretty successful, but this is Dayz, got myself killed last night by slipping off a cliff trying to take a shortcut. C'est la vie.

Why do people stay on recruit servers and kill new players?
Kellanved replied to DerekTen's topic in New Player Discussion
I had this same problem when I started playing. Eventually I learned that the best strat for survival is to head north asap, forget about raiding the nearest building, forget about everythig just get north and then if you want to raid Electro for the meds and supplies come in from the north where most people won't be watching. I found that hitting the smaller towns gave me the food and drink I needed, the deer stands gave me the weapons, and supermarkets gave me the backpacks and tents I needed. Like everyone else I came across other players, some shouted out friendly and went on their way, others just opened fire. I kill anyone who crosses my path now as I've learned the hard way not to trust anyone I don't know, but if they aren't in my way, if they are just in the distance doing their own thing I leave them be or I run, yes I run away from other people, cowardly? Yes but I survive. -
[DayZMod] The Dayz Statistics thread!
Kellanved replied to Ander (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
The stats would be really interesting to see but like others on this thread I don't want to see heat maps or any information which could be of use to bandits/hackers and griefers. I have spent a few weeks now setting up a base with some friends, nearly 10 tents crammed full of gear and in such a good place that we haven't been raided once. Would I like even a suggestion of this location showing up on a heat map? No I would not. We spent a good deal of time looking for a decent campsite, which everyone who plays this game should be doing and if people want to find where other players are spending their time then they should be running around looking not taking shortcuts. -
Yes of course these mean something to me, I wouldn't take the name of the Emperor in vain :) Glad to know Malazan is appreciated, just hope they don't turn it into a HBO mini series. Onos' Toolan is the best character and yes a very happy convergence, power draws power after all :)

@Distinction. Thanks for the response, I didn't know that, I'll now be collecting tin cans and piling them outside of building :) Even if there was on option to turn PvP off I wouldn't do it. I've met friendly players on the DayZ servers, I've met griefers as well. I like the fear that comes from knowing another player is near you and that you can't trust them, I like the feeling I get knowing that another person could be near and at any moment I could hear popping sounds and game over. I've also had those players who run up to me saying 'friendly, friendly' then proceed to shoot/axe me in the face when I turn away - annoying? Yes but that's real life for you, some people are douchebags but again that's what gives me the fear in this game; I don't want to die and lose all my progress, I don't want to murder either but I can't trust unknown players, so anyone I see in the woods or anywhere near my tents and vehicles is getting it between the eyes :) Please do not ever implement a 'PvP off' option and take this adrenaline rush away, name another game that gives you the same feeling of when you've just found NV googles but then hear gunfire close by?

I started playing just after the release of 1.7.1.5 so never had a gun to start with, it was hilarious trying to learn to play this game but now I can be dumped anywhere on the cost and be back at base camp with food, guns, ammo, tools, backpack and a tent within 30 mins. The bugs and loot spawn issues make this game even more realistic and therefore more of a challange. IRL once you've taken all the good stuf out of a building it's not going to be there again the next time you visit. The only bad thing about this game is the other players :)

DayZ noob here but I just have to put my two cents in. I've only been playing this game for just over a week but I'm lucky enough to have gotten into it with a couple of friends. We now have survival skills, 4 tents a bunch of vehicles, decent weapons and an intense hatred of other players. Like everyone else on this thread we have suffered with item deletion, tents going haywire, vehicles disappearing and bugging and just general issues you'd expect from a game currently in alpha. My friend has OCD and so just had to make sure we had a fresh tent setup for all of our high value weapons and ammo, sod's law, this was the tent whose contents vanished yesterday, not the one with our blood and food, but all the bloody weapons :) Still no complaints. Keep working on this game, it's awesome, can't tell you how much we are enjoying it, havent stayed up untill 6:30am on a game in years. Our Gaz disappeared yesterday, our weapon tent was wiped, a tractor blew up killing one of us and then I flipped an ATV which caught fire on me immediately; we stole a car from a rival camp, then wrecked their camp for being too close to ours, a guy spawned in the car we stole and we killed the poor bastard. The only thing I'm concerned about is the item deletion, silenced weapons and NV googles take too much effort to aquire only to have them get erased, that aside this game rocks.
