  1. So my friend has an Alienware laptop M17XR3 and is running Arma II and Dayz and thinks he should be able to run it higher than the low graphics settings. I was surprised to hear this as well so I figured we would ask you guys. His specs are:

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

    Intel Core i7-2760QM CPU 2.40GHZ

    4 GB of RAM

    Intel HD Graphics 3000

  3. Before you all jump on me, no I am not a hacker. I can't program the basic "Hello World" program, so after that disclaimer...

It appears since 1.7.2 that I have a second character. Don't ask me how it happened, but it did. My friend and I made ourselves a camp on US 5 Chicago near Green Mountain. (don't bother looking for it, we're moving in 20 minutes.) I unfortunatley died and he survived so I chose to respawn and meet him again later. I ran into a guy in Electro, killed him, and raided his pack for 5 blood bags, morphine, and epi pens, so as you can imagine I'm feeling pretty good right now. So I get to safetey, log off for a while, and later that night I logged back in to another server because I couldn't connect to US 5 Chicago for some reason. And to my dispair and shock, my progress was completely gone and I end up on the beach again to start over. So I decide to carry on, find some supplies in Electro again, found a decent gun, and once again headed into the wilderness. After 2 vehicle finds that I couldn't keep, and 2 heli crash sites with no guns and just food, I find a safe spot and log off again.

So later my friend and I get back on US 5 Chicago and to my big surprise, my character with all the medical supplies was back and in the same spot I left him. Being very confused, I hopped on another server only to find that my other character with a completely different set of supplies and weapons was still alive as well.

So basically, I'm now sitting here with 2 different characters on the same CD-Key, and once again, it's not a hack. Is anyone else having this same thing happen to them?

  4. So since the patch I noticed a new option on the DeBug monitor that says Visual with a number that changes constantly and my friend and I were wondering if that was our players current visual of the landscape?

  5. I'm beginning to think there should be a disclaimer or warning sign for people interested in playing this game, something along the lines of, "THIS IS NOT A GAME FOR THE EASILY FRUSTRATED, WEAK HEARTED, OR JUST PLAIN STUPID PEOPLE." People, this game is meant to be hard, it's meant to be frustrating, and it's meant to be exhilerating all at once. So if you die after several hours of playing from either a glitched zombie or douche bag human, shake your head, smile, and start again. This is a game of failure. It's exactly like baseball in that regard. In baseball if you fail 7 out of 10 times at the plate you're still a really good player. Take that into consideration the next time someone wants to post another thread about how this game sucks or how its too hard or how people suck.

  6. Well if it makes you feel any better I was stuck in a firehouse in Electro last night for about 20 minutes with zombies camping the stairs below and an asshole with a Lee Enfield trying to hit me from a distance, and after getting shot twice, bandaging myself, and running like hell out of there I did not disconnect even though my friend told me to.

Not everyone is a cheat out there, but yes I agree it sucks and something should be done eventually.

  7. To the post above mine, unfortunatley you are wrong on this matter. DayZ did a good job to thwart a post exactly like yours, Trout. If you haven't noticed yet, there are mass graves of dead soldiers throughout Chernarus, and however civillian the map may appear, there was a significant military presence before the zombie infection struck. Therefore there would have been lots of high grade military weapons on the map, however scattered they may be due to scavengers and so forth.

This game has no set story or plot line so what I just threw out is merely conjecture, but the fact is that there was a significant military presence in the area, therefore there would be some high grade weapons. They aren't going away, so its pointless to complain and petition for their removal. Either stay out of sight, or find a sniper rifle and shoot some people yourself.

  8. Always double tap the left shift key when you're in an area full of zombies, so you don't produce too much sound. That seems to help me a bunch, also once you get proficient with the axe you'll be able to kill zombies without taking much or any damage. From there, take it slow through Electro or Cherno (2 coastal cities with good loot) until you find enough food/supplies and hopefully some kind of weapon and get the hell out of there before you get killed by other players. That can be the most frustrating part, I can't tell you how many times I've had some really good loot only to die within 10 minutes because a bandit stalked me.

    Always be wary!

  9. If you keep switching servers to find firearms chances are you'll never find one or it'll take you twice as long. When I first started, I thought I would never find a firearm. The trick is to first find either a hatchet or a crowbar as a melee weapon so you can defend yourself while looking for a firearm. You can find them in the most random locations, but I've commonly found firearms in deerstands (makeshift watch towers) firestations or pubs. Even big residental buildings that you can enter usually have at least a pistol just chilling in a room.

I know it might feel hopeless and frustrating but hang in there, you'll come across a firearm eventually!

  10. I tip my hat to the developers of this mod. I frequently find myself thinking, "Oh they should've done this, or that needs to be seriously tweaked." regarding one aspect of the game or another. But then I sit back and think about it from their perspective and realize that the decision they made ended up being the best. And I realize the game is still in Alpha right now, but people, if you're unhappy with it for whatever reason, give them a break. I don't know anyone else who could've done a better job with this.

  11. The following story puts into words why I love this mod's ability for open story telling and that each life is a new experience.

So after dying several times not far from my starting point on the beach, I'm heading to a firehouse in Electro when I look to my right and see another newcomer running for the same place. I shout through my mic that I'm friendly and he stops and turns towards me and replies in text chat "friendly". We were both unarmed and just looking for someone to watch our backs and were both overjoyed that we had found just that. But just moments after we had begun communicating, a shot rang out through the air and my new buddy Arel, had been hit. I immediately exclaimed, "NO!" through my mic and quickly ran for shelter in the firehouse. I was overcome with grief as my new friend Arel had died when hope seemed so close. All I wanted was the chance to tell him how sorry I was, that it wasn't me who had shot him, and that I would miss him.

Things I have learned from several attempts on DayZ have been:

    1. It is in the human condition to be an asshole.

    2. Make the most out of what you find.

    3. Give every spawn point a fair chance even if you wanted to be somewhere else.

    4. Be kind, yet sensible.

    5. Never give up hope.
