Please, DONT add a bandit-indicator in this patch
fish911503 replied to JulieMeyers's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Fair enough....well short of a punishment/reward system what else could be done? Could you imagine the raging that would result from a punishment/reward system. Maybe a "loneliness" mechanic? What if when your humanity gets below a certain level a loneliness meter appears which you need to keep full just like drinking and eating. In the future having a "friends" or "clan" system integrated into the game could be used to prevent them from refilling their loneliness by chillin with their murderous buddies. BTW the same system could be used to prevent players from building up their humanity by bandaging their clan mates. -

Not me...you're assuming I play the game as if it's a death match. I don't. So lets hear them :) Again not me. I think weapons are too abundant. Look at my avatar :) Way off.....having our actions and choices have meaning or consequence in the game world ADDS human drama. When it means nothing to murder another player....THAT is a lack of human drama. You got that one mixed up buddy -
Well there IS order. It sounds like what you're saying is there isn't one singular order that dictates over everything. If there were I suppose we would/could call that order God?

No no no....not trying to troll you. Trying to communicate that I THINK....what Rocket is trying to do is implement a mechanic into the game so that our actions....the "way" which we choose to play has consequences. So our actions have meaning. The game IMO will be much more immersive, much more realistic if killing someone actually means something. To split hairs about the fact that when a certain condition is met a scarf might as you say "magically" appear on your neck. I mean there are limitations you know. When I switch from axe to my pistol my axe "magically" appears on my belt and my pistol pops into my hand. When I build a fire the fire ring "magically" appears on the ground. I could give 50 more examples I'm sure but you get the point. To claim that the magical appearance of a game object based on a condition somehow makes a mechanic "bad" is misguided. What make a morality mechanic great or shitty (IMO) is what's going on behind the curtain. The immersion breaking, unrealistic or inauthentic argument is bogus I feel because having weight behind our decisions is much more authentic. Murdering someone is not a thing to be taken lightly. It will have an effect on MOST people. Unfortunately video games are limited and the"meaning" of our moral decisions have to be represented with silly things like scars or hats or whatever. But to toss out something as compelling and authentic as having our moral choices have repercussions in the world is, I think, a mistake. -

It's not magic...It's called a procedure. There are numbers involved, conditional loops, equations with dynamic variables. And it doesn't come from nowhere. The procedure returns a number which is called your humanity. Your humanity is a result of your actions and choices. Those actions and choices are the dynamic variables that are fed into the conditional loop. When that loop hits upon the pre-defined condition an action occurs. In this case that action being a visual representation of your humanity. I don't know maybe it is magic. It certainly can be beautiful when done cleverly. So if the mechanic isn't introduced with this patch hopefully the reason will be that Rocket is working out some gorgeous bit of code that will blow every ones socks off. wheww. -
Finally the truth!!!! :)

I watched the video last week....You're right. He said he MIGHT try using bandit/hero skins but he didn't say what would have to happen for on to GET the skins. The skin is just the final on-screen result of the mechanic. The mechanic itself couldbe as complex and intricate as he wishes to make it or as simple as....you murder you get a skin. So what Rocket said was that he really wants to try and work out how to visually represent someones humanity level. The hat or scarf or blood on the hands is really irrelevant. What's important are the variables involved with how ones humanity is calculated. He gave no indication as to whether he was reworking that system or if he was going to leave the current system in place. I would assume that he is reworking how humanity is calculated because otherwise he would just be bringing back the exact same thing he tried last time but with a different skin. But honestly we will just have to wait and see and give our feedback once we've tried it. He clearly stated he wants to try it. He clearly he said He's THINKING ABOUT trying it in this patch. So speculation doesn't really help. It's fine to say what you would like implemented. To state why a mechanic that doesn't yet exist will not work is well.....useless. I'm sorry. -

No...because Rocket gave no specific details about how the mechanic may work....therefore your opinions about why it wont work are baseless and speculative at best. Once the mechanic is released and you've tested it I'll gladly read your thoughts on it. :)Edit: I read the first couple paragraphs...then stopped. -

I hate to say this...but it's an alpha test people...mechanics are tested..tweaked...retested...and tweaked again. It's funny...anti bandit skin people used to quote Rocket saying it was never going to happen, telling people they shouldn't be attached their gear anyway..it's just an alpha. Now they're begging and crying....please don't. Shows you where the PK KOS mentality is at. Anyway if the mechanic doesn't work it will get tossed. If it does it might stay...which would suck for you. But it's not really about you is it? So I'll say what you all said to me when I asked for this....ready? If you don't like it you can go play something that suits you better. :D AAAHHHHHH........... -

I don't think it's so simple to just say..bandits get a disadvantage for being bandits...Being a bandit has disadvantages and advantages, as does not being a bandit. An advantage to being a bandit is that life is simple...you take what you want from who you want and anyone who gets in your way dies. No tough decisions. Disadvantage to being a bandit....currently none. I think it should be a reputation. Which of course needs to be visually indicated in some way. Disadvantage of beng a "survivor". Getting killed because you don't just shoot at everything you see. Making tough decisions. Shoot or not? Advantage to being a survivor....currently none. I think it should be a reputation. Which of course needs to be visually indicated. -

But That sounds good...maybe it will happen at some point. But I don't it should only be by choice. I think if you kill enough people you should get some sort of reputation/indication of that. Sure murderers aren't going to like it but...tough beans :) -

In some ways it's more realistic. Bandits/outlaws get reputations. It's difficult for them to go into populated areas. It should be riskier for a bandit to go into a Cherno or Elektro than an upstanding zombie apocalypse survivor (hehe). Outlaws generally have live on the run...apart from the rest of society. -

ton tuohtiw. emoS redro si yrassecen. sdrawkcaB si na redro etisoppo fo drawrof. :)seriously though what do you mean when you say "common"sense? 14c., originally the power of uniting mentally the impressions conveyed by the five physical senses, thus "ordinary understanding, without which one is foolish or insane" (L. sensus communis, Gk. koine aisthesis); meaning "good sense" is from 1726. Also, as an adjective, commonsense. Ordinary "belonging to the usual order or course," from O.Fr. ordinarie, from L. ordinarius "customary, regular, usual, orderly," from ordo (gen. ordinis) "order" (see order). ;) Also check the origins of morality and dependency. You say these things are orders "in a way". They are orders by their very definition. Give me one example of life existing without rules, order, hierarchy....please?? :)
