Count this as a question from me, too. I've got the same problem, and I'm an experienced ArmA player who has the key-bindings bound to his heart. (Sounds gay, donnut?) I have no idea why I can't go into third person, and when I test the survivor character models in the editor, they are invisible as well. I think I'm missing a file or something. I have all of the things I downloaded from the website in my @dayz mod folder, and I constantly see other people with a @hive folder with their @dayz folder. Note: IT'S NOT THE SERVERS. I tried it in ArmA editor. Doesn't work at all. It's an error with the files, I think.

Weapon and ammunition class names, and how to get zombies to work in editor?
Captain Q posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
As an avid 'training' type of guy, I like to figure out what, exactly, the weapons are capable of and how to do certain things. I constantly get a "Bad version: Server denied access" error, so I just end up trying to learn how the guns work in the armory. That brings me to the question; how do I get weapons and ammo into inventory slots in the editor mode? What are the codes? I'm talking things like: this addWeapon Winchester_1886; and this addMagazine .45_Henry_Rifle; or whatever. I just don't know the codes, though, myself. What are their classnames? And as to the zombies, how do I get them to function in the editor? They seem to just stand and stare, for some reason. -

Captain Q replied to Captain Q's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Nevermind, I seem to have figured them out myself. To those interested: "Winchester1866" = the Winchester 1866. "15Rnd_W1866_Slug" = The .45 slug. "15Rnd_W1866_Pellet" = A pellet version... I didn't even know they had one. "Remington870" = The Remington 870. "Remington870_lamp"= The Remington with a flashlight attached. "8Rnd_B_Beneli_74Slug" "8Rnd_B_Beneli_Pellets" "MR43" = Double barrel Shotgun "2Rnd_shotgun_74Slug" "2Rnd_shotgun_74Pellets" "Crossbow" = Crossbow... "BoltSteel" = The arrows. Chem lights: magazines[] = {"HandChemGreen", "HandChemRed", "HandChemBlue"}; Road flares: magazines[] = {"HandRoadFlare"}; The original arma content weapons can be found on the Bohemia Interactive forums. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?73241-ArmA-II-amp-OA-Classnames-No-questions-no-discussion-here! -
At about 100 yards, you've got to do so much compensation for the gun's range that you can't do it with the iron sights. However, the slugs *can* still kill, albiet you need to hit the target more than once.

I'd really rather see it implemented when all of the *other* bugs are worked out. As it is, many players won't be for sure if they will even have their weapons the next time they sign in. I'm not against it, at all, I'm just against it coming in sometime next week... Or within the next 3 months...

Survived for the first half hour, then logged out. What'll happen?
Captain Q posted a topic in New Player Discussion
I have no idea what I'm doing in the game, and the first thing that happened to me was a glitch that caused me to lose all of my items. I guess the game gods pitied me, because less than a minute later, I found an 1866 with two mags worth, then gradually some painkillers, bandages, a hatchet, flares, and other things. I saw ONE zombie, and he seemed content circling a cow, so I left him alone. As I was looking in a house, I found a dead body; a PMC character body. I have no earthly idea what that meant. Was it a dead bandit? I got a few things off his corpse. Nothing of any importance and no weapons. I found my way to a safe place, well, a place that seemed safe anyway since it didn't have loot. I closed up the doors and hid, then disconnected from that server (I needed to go eat some pizza). What now? When I log back in, will I be restarted from fresh again? Or will my progress have been saved? Also, nobody talked to me in chat :( Does this mean I've got a serious connection issue or do people just not want to talk nowdays? -
Make inventory weight based instead of slot based.
Captain Q replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think a better suggestion would be to give the backpack and the pack far more space than they currently have. -
Don't forget Dak ham!

Far Cry 2 all over again, or something to just help everybody die faster. My answer is no. The question you should ask yourself is; "Does this game really need it?" The answer to that is "Nope." Players already have enough to keep them on their toes, and to worry constantly about trying to fix their weapon over and over again will probably make someone go bald form pulling their hair out. Maybe in the Beta stage, you can consider implementing this, but right now, the concept just isn't fit for it.

Thank god, and thank you Lysander. I have another question- I am rather unfamiliar with the whole concepts involving the food and drink.. administration.. of this game. I have a pepsi in my inventory. Does my player automatically drink when it is thirsty, or do I have to select it? And thank you Iforgot. Also, will I have to locate food? I think I can beat the five hour life-span at the rate I'm going if I can get this stuff down, lol. What button do you press to enter direct chat instead of group chat? When I hit the /? button I seem to only do group chat. -
"Found a L85A2 AWS and although the weapon itself is a piece of shit (like 95% of BAF weapons)" You just don't know how to use it... *sigh* It's not as good as a few of the other guns, but when you know how to time each shot and actually HIT the target, it's far better than any of it's non-thermal counterparts. Calling it a piece of shit is just far from the truth. The only military gun in the game that title is suitable for would probably be the M24... Now THAT is a piece of shit.

You've got to remember that these are generally people who are controling the vehicles, not some retarded AI that you can expect to fall for it every time. It could be forever before someone falls into your trap. It's sort of like fishing, except the fish have guns and are probably as smart as, if not smarter than you.

So I only need operation arrowhead right?
Captain Q replied to fluffyg's topic in New Player Discussion
You need to buy Operation Arrowhead, I only know that much. I myself have the "Reinforcements" pack and ArmA 2. I know for a fact that Reinforcements comes with OA and PMC and BAF packs. If you want to do this the simple way, just buy the "Combined Operations" pack. -
Hello everyone. I'm a new player, and I'm looking for tips?
Captain Q posted a topic in New Player Discussion
First, I'd like to say I'm a little seasoned in ArmA 2, by no means that great. I never played multiplayer, but I could take on the campaign and single player missions with maximum difficulty, only having trouble when I was limited to a helicopter (I can take off, fly in circles, and land well, that's about it). I have read that there are cheaters on the servers, who are punished and removed in all, but they sometimes leave decent gear sitting around. For example, if I walk upon a tank or a thermal-sighted rifle that have been hacked in by another player, and I decide to use it for myself and happen to be proficient with them, that too would make me a "hacker" despite finding the weapons legitimately, would it not? Would I be banned for simply touching the gear? It has come to my attention that people will be banned for player killing in some servers by hosts at some times. As a 'lone wolf' type of fellow without audio communication and poor networking skills, I would probably be one of the bandits if I came across a camp with an MG sitting out in the open and players non-willing to share with someone they don't know, or in the case of the games more important aspects, bottled water. Sure, I'd try diplomacy first "can I has wuter please?" but I'm pretty sure I'd be shot, and by that trial/error mistake replaying, I'd be led to believe that everyone is a bad guy, and shoot first ask for things later. My question is, however, is it legal? Or would people just think "That guy's a prick" when I come out of nowhere with a little makarov and hit them one or two times? Again, I would by all means try diplomacy first unless I ended up dying over and over again because of it. I'm very much aware that this isn't call of duty or BF3, so being one man would be hard. I'd be very much like a scavenger wolf who follows the main pack. I know the basics of ArmA, but when it comes to multiplayer, I'm clueless. Also, what about when I don't want to play anymore? How do I quit and/or save my progress? I can't stay on the computer 24/7 to keep a lucky AK or something in my inventory. Please give me some hinters? -

"I would love to see this but people are too un organized and paranoid at the moment " ArmA II... Even with zombies, it's still the most realistic video game ever concieved.
