I bought ArmA 2: Reinforcements from best buy for $4.99 plus tax. Crackers are puss-burgers. Buy the damn game, Bohemia Interactive deserves the profits. Hell, they even offer base ArmA 2 for free, and they are NOT a big American game corporation like EA or Ubisoft. Like I said, crackers are puss-burgers. DON'T BE A PUSS-BURGER.

I like the idea of just reporting people who want to puss out. If they want to be wimps and cowards, then so be it, but I feel that there will be no solution to the problem in a game like ArmA that wouldn't intrude upon the ability of other players to log out in an honest fashion. We all hate disconnect fags, but the least we can do is ban them from a server, and if they're a major problem, blacklist them. I think going into some sort of elaborate set-up that tracks everything feels intrusive, and might hurt honest players as a result. Blocking seems to work.

If DayZ implemented pawn shops, you'd be making a killing.

Survivors start as horrible shots (Weapon familiarization)
Captain Q replied to Lukio (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
How about we just suggest that the USS Khe Sahn sunk off of the Chernarussian coast, and all of the people onboard were trained in basic firearm usage, and depending on their mentality (the player at the keyboard) could otherwise handle himself with a gun. In other words, let's not pose this limitation on everybody when the average life expectancy is under an hour. -
Why risk not penetrating the skin when you can simply beat someone down with a blunt swing to the head, and then beat them to death on the ground? Same principles; just might take a few more seconds. Plus, we already have the hatchet for the neck splitting ;) We also may not want to *kill* anybody.

This provides for rampant abuse; the first thing spawn killers will do is camp the coast of Berezino, Chernogorsk, and Elektravo-whatever. They get a spot on the leader boards for most murders, people get pissed, and everyone else is forced to spawn in low-risk areas with low-loot chances. That's just one scenario. No no no please. No thank you.

Not only would this be very hard to implement considering ArmA's base files not incorperating such matters, but it would also not contribute quite as much to the overall scheme. While I like the effort that you put into your idea, and in any other case would support it, the whole concept would just put an extra burden on the developers shoulders that, right now, they would not be able to handle. First, we must take into account the character models: They do not include armbands, and since skins are changable, armbands would have to factor into ghille suits and such, unless they are scrapped entirely. In terms of the suggested characters, a few stat differences would be good ideas, like the + or - of blood, however, this coming at the cost of something else would be strange. A lot of these ideas have potential, but the engine simply will not support them. Maybe when ArmA 3 rolls along, you would have a better opportunity to present this idea. Otherwise, I like it, but it's not likely.

It's Impossible to See at Night! - Other threads will be locked/deleted!
Captain Q replied to daish's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Realistically, the human eye is able to adjust to darkness in an out-all-night-without-light setting. It's never pitch black in real life unless it's cloudy; even then, it's not as dark as this game gets. Try it yourself sometime tonight. Go stand on the porch, turn out the lights inside and out, and just stand for a while, looking at your property line or tree line. Slowly but surely, your eyes will adjust, and you will be able to see. -
A weapon limiting solution that *might* offer both parties some level ground realism.

AS-50 mag capacity is typically only five rounds' date=' and it's as fast as, if not slower than the M107. The M107, however, can pack away 10 rounds into it's target. The man behind the m107 has more of a chance to hit his target, and sound doesn't matter: A snipers job is to get in, shoot, and get out. Campers get killed in ArmA type games. If not by players, then the zombies (generally). However, put an M107 in the right spot, and they can shoot all day long, with twice as much ammo as an AS-50 user would have, which is why that gun needs to go. Plus, it's far more expensive than the AS-50. Why leave that laying around? The KSVK is a far better choice, since it's actually a Bloc-state gun. [hr'] -
Shit like this is turning me off DayZ :/
Captain Q replied to iStP's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
To be honest, this sounds like something from a really, really good movie. Hell, I feel like I've seen it. You should wear this encounter with a badge of honor-you were ambushed after helping one of these bastards, and you didn't die without taking one with you. It's more proof that even with zombies, ArmA 2 is the most realistic game out there :D -
I hate how US law always seems to make these things more complicated than they should really be...

Well; it would be more of a privilege as the developers say it is, instead of an actual rental/purchase that designates you as a customer. It also gives them more technical authority, overruling the argument most pro-owner posters present of "they pay for the servers, why should you have the right to ban them from their own servers?" You donate X dollars, in return you are allowed to host the server for so&so many days, so long as you follow the rules. It's different from a rental in which you are entering into a contract with the company in order to run the said server, and you are paying specifically for that purpose. With the 'donation with incentive' concept I proposed, it will be more of a "you scratch my back, I scratch yours, but if you start digging your claws into me I'll knock you unconscious." This way, the company can avoid any threat of legal action because, hey, it's a donation, and you get free crap for making the donation. But, if you bust a deal; face the wheel! -and it'll always land on revoking those server priviliges that you were rewarded for donating that sum of money. Kind of like the ASPCA sending out free T-Shirts if you give 15 dollars. Kind of like the NRA sending out a gun bag if you donate 50 dollars. That sort of thing.

There is always just so much negative energy gathered up in all of these announcement threads, man... In my opinion, I feel really afraid that someone would take the loss of their server to court or something. They may not have a case, but the legal expenses and the court itself would be a hassle for the development team. There's nothing worse than spending a week with a dipstick plaintiff who thinks he'll win a computer battle without a computer. I think that it should be looked at more like a "donation with incentive" or something, rather than viewed as you buy/rent the servers. It's just too confusing and someone who just lost their server may even try to sue for piss stains in their pants.

The Mk-48 Mod 0 should be replaced by the Pecheneg, as well. -
Can zombies maybe NOT be able to go through closed doors? That would be swell
Captain Q replied to Konrad9's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I agree. Zombies should be able to open doors instead :D Hiding out in a room would be a cheap way to lose the immersion, and since ArmA doesn't supply us with door breaking physics, I'd think the opening of doors by zombies would be a better alternative. It's better than clipping. They need their collision detectors fixed anyway. It might come in at a later point. I'm pretty sure the developers understand that we're wanting to fight *zombies*. Not a drunk, shambling Danny Phantom. -
"This server is running an incorrect version of the server side application."
Captain Q posted a topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I just love these errors. I've been trying to get into a game for the past hour, and all I've had is this message popping up. Before that, I was stuck in the "no-mans desert" and forced to become fed up with THAT disappointment. I'm never going to get to play this game again, am I? This has been the most frustrating attempt I've ever made to play a game in a long, long time. :@ -

Oh, I'm not mad at the creators. I'm just mad that no matter what I do, it doesn't work, and when I fix a problem, a new one sprouts up. For something that's free, I enjoy it very much and appreciate that they released it. I just wish the bloody thing would work for me so I can do what everyone else is doing. Regardless; thank you for the link. It helps my case of male PMS a lot. -

Proposal for Winchester 1866 Ladder sight; using the numpad option for site switch.
Captain Q posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Before you say "what the hell are you talking about, and what is a ladder sight?" I personally am not familiar with ladder sights. However, there is another optic that is very similar that I know more about to convey the explanation; a "Vernier sight." The Vernier sight is an old-fashioned optic used on rifles before scopes really became popular. I really think Tom Selleck using the gun would explain it better than I can. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i88-5SYY9cQ If you want to the get to the point in the video, the moments mentioning the Vernier sight are "0:54" and, of course the aiming and shooting part, at 2:50. The show is called "Quigley down under" and I liked it enough to pick it up on Bluray. It's a western that takes place in Australia, with Alan Rickman as the villain lead-a wonderful preformance. Movie aside, if you're not interested in watching how the sight works, then here's a page to explain it: http://www.uslink.com/~tom1/vernier.htm Here's a site with detailed pictures, and a shorter explanation. http://www.hallowellco.com/vernier_tang_sight.htm Here is a picture of a raised ladder sight; http://www.gunblast.com/images/Chaparral-1876/MVC-385F.jpg Now with *what* a ladder sight basically is, it's time for me to explain *WHY WE NEED ONE*. The Winchester 1866 has a limited range of 150 yards without sufficient drop compensation; which is raising the rifle a mite to actually hit the target with the bullet. At around 200 yards away, there is NO WAY you can see the target and hit it without compensating so much that you can no longer see the target past the sights. In my experience, I can manage a shot past that, but it's a blind shot, and I certainly can't hit a moving target with that. I have a few reasons why the Ladder sight should be something we can switch to. 1. It increases the ability of the Winchester 1866 to preform realistically as well as its combat ability. 2. It's already attached to the rifle in the first place, we just can't use it for some reason... If you look at the iron sights, you will see the little sight laid down on the barrel. Also: On the DayZ wiki page, the sight is extended as it should be when in use. http://dayzwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=File:Weapon_Winchester_1866.png How it's done? In traditional ArmA fashion, some weapons have optics that you can switch by pressing a button. In default cases, that would be the / button on the numpad. The Winchester Ladder sight can be animated to raise, and you could, possibly, look through it like a scope, except it would be a metal frame with a square hole to look through, sort of like the red dot on the M4-cco except no little lazer. That, or you could just look through it like a sniper scope and the outer area would be blurred. Using the page up/page down, you would be able to adjust the range from 100 to 400 or 500 yards. It wouldn't be hard to implement, and it would be very great to have this function actually working. The thing is already there, and it's kind of pointless to have the Ladder sight attached but just sitting there doing nothing. Anyone who is in contact with the developers and reading this, please put fourth this topic. I think it would be a great addition since the basics are already there. I had to edit: I had the Vernier sight confused with the Winchester Ladder sight. Both had the same principles however, so no worries :) -
BANDITS ALREADY HAVE AN INCENTIVE TO BE BANDITS. They do not need a welfare check. Maybe, if you want to give the survivors something, give them a twinkie or a bodyguard named Tallahassee...

Proposal for Winchester 1866 Ladder sight; using the numpad option for site switch.
Captain Q replied to Captain Q's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
There may be a problem with the enfield volley sight... The Enfield was implemented into the game by the original ArmA company. To edit that gun would require editing original ArmA files to actually put a volley sight on, which is something that I think the people working on the mod wouldn't want to do. However, since the Winchester has the ladder sight on it already, and the DayZ team made it, they wouldn't need to change any base ArmA files in order to incorporate the feature. -
Adjust the brightness of your monitor and of the game. You might be able to see a little better.
