Suggestions for the DayZ standalone - thinking outside of the limitations of an Arma 2 mod.
buttersoft replied to ruarz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Great thread, and the reddit one looks great too. Let's be careful not to turn the game into an MMO, but short of that it's all gold. Temperature should be more critical, and affect you more. Wants snow and more weather effects - already mentioned obviously. If dogs are implemented, they should react to the weather. They could be more aware when downwind. And they should be terrified of thunderstorms. Most of the time a well-trained dog would be an advantage, but in a thunderstorm they can't be controlled, won't take orders and want to be by your side all the time, and would howl, giving your position away. -
Why couldn't you pick it up? Scrolling the mousewheel over it did nothing? Love seeing the screenshots though, this game is purrrrdy.

Inventory Not Saving on Logout
buttersoft replied to AquatikJustice's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I get the backpack glitch a lot. On logging out and logging back in, the items in my backpack will change, or partially reset or revert. Only one or two items appear, and they're always items i had before, such as cans of beans i had eaten, sometimes two or three hours before logging out. The reappearance of older items means there won't be ten slots in my backpack for the weapon i have stashed there, which vanishes. At least this is what I beleive is happening. There will then be 7 or 8 slots free. It might be a hive sync issue i guess, but if so it's a specific, partial one. The items in my hand are never messed with, only the backpack inventory is changed. -
Where is the Challenge? This is a survival game afterall!
buttersoft replied to RedDedZed's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Not good for people with high pings, and heaps of us are playing overseas because servers in our own country are too crowded -
to what purpose?
-
Yeah i like the idea. More random stuff to break up the game. No one things should be too op though, agreed.
-
Regen is a bad idea. Game needs to be tougher on the pve front. Maybe more random sometimes. @ OP - your body makes more blood from the nutrients it receives via food. In DayZ you eat food to get blood. The process is there, it's just been shortened for you.

Hotfix Build 1.7.2.3 Rolling Update
buttersoft replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
The Zeds are deaf in 1.7.2.3, genius. That's part of the general complaint. Nobody wants easy street, but atm the line of sight feels a bit random, and could use teaking. And there are the Infected that spawn in and stand frozen, not moving, not seeing. Remember, it's only people that care who bother to even post. -
US 295 being shut down for good.
buttersoft replied to ynefel's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Surely a big part of what's going on is partly because with the alpha and the OA beta changing versions so often, and with so many servers being taken offline or coming online, or just being reorganised and renamed, it's impossible as a player or small group to stick to one server or even group of servers. Besides which, the dog-eat-dog mentality of this game means that a s communities develop, there's always going to be outsiders. This is exacerbated by the fact that's DayZ, perhaps uniquely, has no story and no endgame. There are no common goals, and there's no way to really win. It's all about the metagaming, the crafty things people can do with ghosting and hopping, and it spills into the forums here. You should probably have realised this when you rented a server, OP. I can't speak as to the treatment from the devs, but as you noted, they get an allowance for the fact that this game has absolutely exploded and they're struggling to cope. Give them a break, and wake up. Server admin are to be thanked, but having been one myself in various FPS titles, as you may have been yourself, you quickly come to realise it's a relatively thankless job. You do it because it benefits the community you're part of, and deal with pub players as a necessary part of the game you enjoy. But DayZ imposes other limitations, whether from the model the devs have in mind and the restrictions on kicking and admin behaviours, or simply due to the aforementioned point to do with the game itself and the fragmented community it's engendered. -
Hotfix Build 1.7.2.3 Rolling Update
buttersoft replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
yeah the action icons seem a bit funny, in 1.7.2.3, esp for animal carcasses. And i strongly agree with the ppl who've said zombie line-of-sight needs tweaking down or made less weird, but that audbility needs to go waaay up. Shooting right near most infected with their back turned won't do shit. But sneaking into any area is now almost pointless, the infected will spy you from miles away through objects seemingly at random. I know they investigate small sounds without getting triggered, but overall detection feels mismatched in 1.7.2.3 awesome work though, still loving the game. EDIT: reading the post below... Yes, sometimes that helps, but sometimes it doesn't do anything. -
If you were sold that house, for example, under the stricture that you not operate a crack den, and the local authoriries found out you were, in fact, running a crack den... When they're given the license to host the server, they need to make sure they stick to the T&C. It's always been that way in every game, though most publishers are lazy and only pretend to care. The Dayz team actually seems dedicated, which is a welcome change.

Try reading the thread. It's happening to all of us. Some of us are using silenced weapons and it's still happening :) As i said above, it may not be a bug, it might be intended.

It's happening all over the place, and the zombies get set off so fast that firing a gun in even a small town means you have to kill about 30-50 infected or run away. It might be part of rocket's design, but it doesn't seem to leave a middle ground. You can't kill a few of them because the new one's are spawning in all over the place, right on top of you sometimes, and possibly while the old ones are still there. Might be becuase the infected are now so easily alerted. you can be 100-150m away, crouching, not moving, and all of a sudden three of them will charge. When they respawn right near you, often they're already going nuts. It's not bad per se, it's just different. I think i preferred 1.6 zombies, but 1.7.1.5 was ok too. Again, it's not bad, it's a new challenge. It also makes me wonder what dying and starting again would be like now. There'd be a lot more running and hiding, that's for sure.
