The mod feels awkward, clunky and considerably emptier than SA.
Awkward? Becasue it has zombies?
Clunky? Seriously? At least we have responsive controlls and even the animations feel more natural.
I don't mind a bit emptier map, I actually quite like it because it forces me to move around rather than hitting one village and getting fully geared up with enough food and drinks to feed entire server. I was never a big fan of sh*tload of fancy clothes and other useless items, so I couldn't care less about them.

People complain about broken mechanics - "This is alpha! We're here for testing!"
People complain about item rarity - "Testing is not an excuse!"
We had like ~50 vehicles per server (regular settings) in the mod and they were quite rare with most of them being hidden in some forests, bushes, barns.
Now we have 3 trucks per server, while we're stil supposed to test those vehicles. No wonder people are confused.

DayZ mod few months after release was still in alpha state, yet it was more complete, more advanced and less buggy than SA after 2 years of developement.
Oh I forgot to mention, it was (and still is) free.

Stop being stingy and just drop the money for the alpha. Don't listen to the "You should wait cause right now the game is too bugged" crowd, their logic is faulty. Why would you wait? Buy it now, for cheaper, even if it is too buggy for your taste right now, you can just hold off playing the game until it's further into development. Waiting just means you'll pay more, and face it, the fact that this is a difficult decision for you just shows you're gonna end up buying it at some point anyway.
You should wait because nobody guarantees that SA will be finished at some point. It's a risky investement, especially when you still have the free mod that offers similar experience.

Wait at least a year.
If you look at 2014 roadmap, you will notice that most of the features planned for Q3 and Q4 2014 weren't implemented. Once again we're getting promises of incredible, cool features but looking at what they have accomplished so far I'm not convinced at all if they got what it takes to deliver a proper product.

OP, it sucks but there isn't much you can do. Forget about wearing gloves, take off your coat/whatevertopyouhave and put it in your backpack. Jump into every lake you can find. Right now water doesn't damage your equipment so it's the best way to keep normal temperature. Memorize the location of all ponds, lakes.
Don't even listen to suggestions like: start walking everywhere.

Did I say stand in the damned window and let someone snipe you? Nope. Now go back and CAREFULLY read what I wrote.. see how the context is dont stop at any point in a high level area?
And no, Ive never, ever been shot through a window.. because that would be tragically unobservant of me. I have far too many hours in this game and its early mods to make such a simple mistake.
Why so mad?
Sometimes you have to stop and pick something up, maybe even swap backpacks. I'd rather do that in crouched position instead of just staying up. I've already got a readied gun in my hands and I will hear anyone getting close to me to react in time, close inventory, and welcome them.
Bambies could use that info, since that thread is mostly about giving them some tips.

Important things:
1. Zeds less buggy. Still very few of them - hardly any challenge.
2. Persistence - work in progress. Currently broken.
3. Loot spawning - work in progress. Currently broken.
4. Vehicles - 1 vehicle in experimental. Hardly working, but it's something.
5. Lack of high end military weapons. No end-game guns that would give a reson to play regularly.
6. Shooting mechanics as broken as before.
7. Private servers are in.
More clothes and various items.
Growing tomatoes.
Hunting.
Oh, barricading right now means using lockpick to lock doors.

DO NOT CROUCH INSIDE BUILDINGS (@military bases)
EVER.. Go find someplace safe to eat, check gear, etc.. inside a high threat area, is not the place for it. You never know who watched you go inside..
By crouching you slow yourself down, including your reactions. If you are standing, when a player enters and raises his weapon at you.. you simply sidestep while pulling yours out. Usually he misses at that point.. but if you're crouched.. you're probably dead already.
Clearly you've never been shot through a window.

Can't answer this with 100% certainty as I only used the SVD very rarely, but as I recall the scope was correct/accurate... Though there's something vague in the back of my head hinting me that there may have been some problem with the scope. I'd have to ask my buddy Hoff, as that was his preferred weapon/scope.
Nevermind then, I was just testing you :P
Actually they weren't exactly accurate, but close enough for most situations. I can't remember the exact ranges, I have them written down at home, if anyone's interested I might post them later.

I'm just wondering:
1pp players mentioned many times that one of the problems with 1pp servers is the lack of people to play with.
Do you believe that calling someone an exploiter or cheater is an effective way of convincing them to play 1pp? Do you think that removal of 3pp servers will make 3pp players move to 1pp or maybe, just maybe they will say "Fck that, I'm not going to play with people who insulted me and destroyed 3pp servers."?

3rd person should be BANNED.
It's nothing but a bunch of cheaters playing *iSpy* with themselves while they have their stupid little god like eyes floating above themselves while their real character is sitting prone above a rooftop or behind some bushes.
I suggest you check out 1pp servers. You will be delighted to find out that the issue you mentioned doesn't exist on those servers.

On topic:
I've never liked over the shoulder camera and I'd rather play on 1pp only if I have to choose between those 2.
Close to the topic:
There were times when I chose to play on 1pp servers only. I've never had issues with finding one. Sure there are some low pop 1pp servers but there are also ones that are almost full. I absolutely don't see how the existence of 3pp servers affects 1pp ones.
Just one extra thing.
Lets say that peeking is like a wallhack and should be considered cheating. If someone can use it on 1pp - he's cheating, simple as that.
Now, we also have the other kind of servers, they have some weird settings - by default wallhack is enabled for every player on those servers. You can turn it off (stay in 1p) but everyone can use it against you anyway. That sounds outrageous, servers full of cheaters, any reasonable person should stay on 1pp servers and never use those cheats avaiable on 3pp.
Unfortunatelly, for some reason, people either don't mind those wallhacks on 3pp or maybe even like them? Gotta admit, if everyone on 3pp has access to that cheat it creates an even playing field. Nobody is better, since everyone has the same advantage.
What if this changes how those people perceive those wallhacks? What if for them it's not a cheat but a feature of 3pp servers?

I don't care about them, it's a bloody game. They might eat apples, boars or human meat, it makes no difference.

Well, this escalated quickly.
Reminds me of a discussion I had a long time ago on a private DayZ mod server.
Some dude: "Lets remove military loot from Cherno and Elektro to minimize the deathmatch on the coast"
Me: "How about we let people do whatever they want? If they want to deathmach in Elektro, why force them to do someting different?"
- "Omg, you're one of those scrubs deathmartching in Elektro!"
How is that different than:
-"3pp is a problem and it needs to be fixed!"
- "I don't care, I play both. If you don't like 3pp you can play on 1pp only servers."
- "Omg, you're a scrub peeking over walls! I can't enjoy my 1pp server, because 3pp is more popular!"
So much obsession to force everyone into specific playstyle. One game, one truth, one playstyle?

Please don't turn it into another 1pp vs 3pp battle.
Mod had a whole bunch of elektro fighters aswell. Personally I'd like to see more rare AND usefull loot or some sort of base/shelter building to make surviving more appealing.
