Depends. If they can actuallu fulfill all the promises and granted this engine can take it - might be great ~4 years from now. The engine looks very, very bad right now.

Dayzed is a bit different. There are many different guns + decently working attachement system. Finding a gun is a whole other story though. On top of that you will really need something like Ak-74 just to survive. Zombies are very difficult to loose + stamina system means you can't run away from them forever. Melee is risky - you might get overrun and getting hit really hurts since it's more difficult to regen your health. There isn't that much food to be found and you can't just eat 20 cans of beans for health, if you're full - you're full. Getting a hunting knife isn't easy either, I actually had to loot deerstands to get some meat and survive. If you think you can just sprint to barracks for ez guns - you're wrong. It's not working - too many zeds, you'll get overrun. You can either try risky approach and get more poeple with you and plenty of ammo, or sneak for good 15 mins and pray to god that zeds won't notice you. Moreover stamina system will make you loook really hard for a vehicle to fix. I haven't played it for a while but it still looks great and shows how much potential Arma2 engine has. Easily most advanced DayZ mod I've ever seen (because milking cows is awesome).

You do realize there are some mods that focuss stricly on survival? Check dayzed for example. It will make cry. It's not very popular but any survival fan should give it a shot.

It was garbage anyway with current dispersion.

While we're on that subject: Add strafe jumping!

That. None of the people I know from the mod is playing SA right now. We just wait till it gets half decent and fill our time with Breaking Point.

Am I the only person not looking forward to private hives or modding?

That's why we need private hives. So we don't have to play on the same server and I can enjoy playing with people who realize how good PvP in DayZ can be and enjoy rivalry between PvP oriented teams. -

What I'm reading: "I don't want people having choice of playstyle. They should either play it my way otr not play at all." The community is already split. Some of it wants experience similar to the mod, others want PvE co-op vs zombies. Mods only offer some diversity and private hives create great communities within a server. Without the private hives there's always the risk that devs will cave and change the game according to whiners' demands ruining it for everyone else. -
Many people seem to not actually know what "Alpha" means...

Where is our foundation? We have some skaky walls, leaking ceiling and no solid foundation. That's the problem right now. -
Mad because got killed. Nothing to see here, folks.

What was the mistake? Almost completly abandonning the mod. If the SA needs years to become even remotely playable (not talking about the geniuses that have 100+ hrs played yet they've never touched the mod), just make a small team to further develop the mod while we wait for SA. It wouldn't take much resources. I've seen grat DayZ modifications made by 2 ppl in their spare time.

It's a game, if someone kills you he's a gamer, not a killer.

Jesus, read the first post in the thread. -
It's quite amusing story: (Mod) There was a guy camping the roof of firestation building at NWAF. He killed about three people who started to complain at side chat. I decided to check that place with 3 of my friends. They got there first and I was about 5 min behind them. Two of them rushed the firestation building. Mr Bandito was well aware of his surroundings so one of my buddies got few bullets to the chest before getting into the building, barely survived it. My 3rd friend tried to get an angle on the bandit with his CZ550 but beacuse of the poor visibility (rain :F) he only managed to get cold. At this point not much is happening: bandito just waits at the roof, 2 guys inside firestation, one sniper shaking from the cold. I arrived shortly after from S. Before I knew it I got shot by the bandit. Bleeding, broken legs I finally managed to patch myself up get close to firestation and get some cover. Eventually, after exchanging some bullets with the bandit he started to climb down the ladder - turns out he run out of ammo. We finally managed to kill him - all he had was Lee and Ak-74 with no bullets left. One guy, outnumbered, almost got half of us killed. Where's the funny part? When he got shot: *Rambo motherf*cker was killed.* I couldn't stop laughing.

Am I the only one seeing this..... People losing faith in the game

I'm just really disappointed so far. I've been playing the mod since around june 2012 and I loved it. A couple of months later we were informed "We're working on SA version so the progession of the mod will slow down". Allright, mod got hardly updated since that time but we still got many of other things to do: new maps (fantastic Namalsk), some new mods (DayZero, Origins, Epoch) - casuals were very happy with Epoch and Origins others would pick DayZero or some other modifications. Time was passing and we were assuming that Rocket and his team are working hard on making SA really good. Suddenly it got released and everyone was rushing to buy it and play. Hell, some of my friends took a few days off work just to play it some more. Then, after a couple of hours came the first disappointment - the game was far behind the original mod, the same one that got hardly any updates in last 1.5 years. So we just hoped that all of that extra cash we invested will mean fast content updates. What happened? Zombies not working at all, loot not spawning, only few weapons, no tents/cars, arcade mechanics for shooting guns. I still hope that this game will eventually become something great but I'm just worried that without Rocket soon we will see further attempts to make this game more casual, less skill dependant just to get more sales. Lets hope I'm wrong. -
Enterable buildings + extra animations are hardly a content. You do realize that those "mod fanboys" are the reason that SA got created?

Yesterday I played the Mod after 200 hours of Standalone.

Just lower the spawn rates, don't take out the weapons completly. The tiny chance that maybe that amazing gun will spawn this time for me is what makes people get back to those military spawns even though they get all the gear they need. -
Lmao, you are the perfect customers for Rocket. You believe in every crap and made-up story they offer you without even trying to think for a second if it makes any sense.
-
I don't think I'd ever choose the DM server even though PvP in DayZ is one of the main aspects that keep me playing.
-
If we get experimental branch to test for couple of weeks and all the new bugs it created got transferred to stable how could you still use the same "alpha" argument to explain this?
-
I don't. DayZ mod and all the variations might be getting boring after countless of hours but I still have Breaking Point for Arma 3. Why would anyone choose current SA over mods? It has very little content, more bugs, very little working mechanics. So what is left? Looking for new clothes?

Sure, I remember both bad times and good times in the mod. When i comes to SA I remember bad times and, uh, that's it. Too many things still unfinished to enjoy it. -

How dare we compare free mod that was developed by few people and got almost completly abandonned after ~6 months (starting to work on SA) to SA game that sold 2mln copies ~20 euros each, has full team working on it for many months (1-2 years maybe?). Shame on us for suggesting that anyone unhappy with current SA state could try the mod. Too late for: inb4 - alpha :< -

I wish we were forced to interact with others to survive...

It still would be easier than going to town and sneaking around zeds for 30 minutes.
