You have already answered your own question, scripting in items is illegal. This is not how the game is intended to be played. It does not matter if the items are native to dayz or do not spawn in game. For myself, the process of surviving while trying to gear up is a major factor in my enjoyment of the game. A "helpful" scripter as you have described is then in reality diminishing my enjoyment. If you have to think too hard about whether this practice ok or not, this is not the game for you. A tactical game that rewards patience and precaution becomes utterly pointless when you script in items that you should be discovering in game. I do find it interesting that this "helpful" player having taken this challenge out of their gameplay feels the need to "help" others out afterwards. Why not just play the game and help others out? If there is legitimate risk the reward feels so much better.

Waterbottles...Should hold multiple 'drinks'.
T.G. replied to sheephunter's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Be careful with your campaign for a more "realistic" dayz. I am fine with a one slot drink item refilling my thirst meter as a game mechanic and personally do not want play the sims with guns and zombies. Not that this is what you are suggesting but, like I said careful what you wish for, all that eating and drinking has to go somewhere... -
Alpha? Do not get attached to your gear, kill count, location, or life span...
-
Sorry but no, or at least probably not. In most post apocalyptic zombie type fiction, the protagonist learns rather quickly that the "monsters" are not the real worry when compared to the monsters that lurk within humanity already, suppressed only by concepts of law and order within a society.

When will this game have consequence for player killing?
T.G. replied to scaramoosh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hobbes' state of nature: life is poor, solitary, nasty, brutish and short. The only things which you have are the things you can keep others from taking from you. This includes your life. The consequence for killing another player on sight is the loss of a potential ally against others who would take from or kill you. This is the extreme that the game could be played at if you are looking for real emotion to be tied to your game experience and are striving to live no matter what. Most players are not doing this (and nothing is wrong with that), and could care less about dying as they will just respawn and start a new kill streak. I think the game has consequences for player killing, but if you are looking for penalties then this is the wrong game for you. -
I would rather see a lockdown on teleportation scripts than a patch for automatic parachutes myself. Neither seem to have a place in mod striving for brutal realism and authenticity.

Right, isn't this pretty much the cherno/electro you can find on any server with a reasonable population?
-
Did you report this to the server admin with time and details? Because writing about it here may make you feel better, but it is not going to get the offender any closer to banning...
-
search forums... Short answer no, but you will gain respect from no one for using a hacked weapon whether you hacked it in or claim to have looted it off a bad hacker.

Interesting suggestion but I feel the food system is fine as is. Like you said once you have a canteen, matches, knife and hatchet (none of which are rare) your thirst and hunger requirements are pretty much covered. Most animals spawn in open fields but there are plenty secluded in the forest as well. The open field trade off works well against the alternative of scavenging in cities, each with its own risks and rewards. I think the real food topic to be discussed is cannibalism, why stop at looting a players gear when so much more is going to waste...

How to report hacker with nameplates off?
T.G. replied to Kaishi's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
If you do not have nameplates and report a potential hacker with server # time and details and get yelled at, presumably by the server admin... I think it is time to find a new server. -
Skype is free, but you get what you pay for. Works well enough for everyone I play with though.

Be patient. It is day z, you will die eventually.

Cannont play DayZ from steam Crash on startup Help! been 2 weeks
T.G. replied to gia251's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Are you running steam as admin? I was having problems about 2 weeks ago similar to what you described and I still get an error message for a bad file when launching from six launcher but the game plays at least. Hope it helps I know your frustration. -
Looted a G36CSD (camo) off a body?
T.G. replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Kill an infected, put it on the body, hide the body, and continue playing the game legit. There are plenty of other weapons in the game that will not get you labelled as a hacker if discovered on your body (regardless of the consequences or lack there of). Do the right thing and be the type of player you would want to play with. -
'shift' + '-' + 'flush' doesn't do anything
T.G. replied to PreDator123's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Sometimes it works for me completely, sometimes temporarily, and sometimes not at all. Psychologically I find it helps to have something to try regardless of the outcome. -
8/1/12 11.30 Central time my friend was looking in a deer stand on the west side of map encountered two "players" who toyed with him for a while, slurp, slurp and all that. They let him live after showing off their gear, which we presumed was hacked. They left him with the warning that they were going to fuck up his friends (three of us have same tag). True to their word I am being shot at on the east coast outside of factory. They wanted to play with me too and became upset when I refused and called them bullshit hackers with bad aim. It would be great if douches like this could be banned... If nothing else the teleport script should show up?

Found an M4A1 Holo SD in a tent, is it a legit item?
T.G. replied to SomeFatWhiteGuy's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My friends and I dropped a guy today by the name of Majesticshitstain and found a M4A1 Holo SD (with M203) not on database, makes me cry to drop it but one less hacked weapon in the game. -
New loging out system and ALT + F4 insta-ban?
T.G. replied to SollemNRomanHD's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I am all for a log out timer or having alt+f4 equal respawn and character death... But I am just passing time researching this because I got the gist that rocket was working on algorithms to track player behavior for warnings and then banning and hoping these will be solid enough to differentiate between exploiters and shitty internet. I have just watched my second shock hour glass fade out to instantly see the red letters no message received and losing connection again. I have not been near combat in an about hour, out in the woods minding my own business, just shitty internet. Fair? No, but the world is unfair. Deal breaker for this game? Quite possibly whether I like it or not if my shitty connection gets me banned from the hive for a poor reputation. -
Also now getting bad serial number in setup, trouble shooting is less fun than zombie shooting...

Same issues with various addons files: expected ... got ... I guess I will try to reverify through steam. I was playing fine until I exited out of six launcher and restarted, since then neither six launcher nor steam will start the game. Update: reveified cache through steam and I think it updated either way working now and happily I did not have to reinstall game, gl.

I had a similar thing happen as well while in a boat. The loading screen showed the small boat ahead of my point of view in the distance, but it was gone when I got back in game. I did not die, but lost some gear and was miserably cold by the time I swam to shore. Lesson learned: fuck them boats.

I hear another developer is making an mmo that might be more to your liking. The very thing I like about losing everything in dayz and starting over is it makes the gear grind part of the game have meaning. Surviving in this game is the reward, better equipment just helps you do it longer. Your four hours were only wasted if you learned nothing that could be applied to your next survival attempt. Level up and regenerate on your own, please do not ask the developer to factor it into the game for you.

Does Anyone Have Tips on How to Avoid a Firefight
T.G. replied to Lyncher's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I have heard the lean dance is a sign of non-hostility, q e q e q e, if nothing else you might matrix dodge a few shots before the dust settles. Good luck anyway. -
Updated through sixlauncher, and that started the problem... I have found one server that runs 1.7.2.2 beta 94876 and plays no problem, just wait for the rest to update if they choose to do so...
