I don't see much harm in the occasional hacker adding an illegal vehicle as long as it's a very rare occurance and they risk a ban. Just imagine that it was the military who were hunting down survivors to prevent them from migrating further from the infection hot zones and you got unlucky. I would love to suddenly see a jet drop a JDAM in the center of Chernogorsk. :D It adds to the feeling of trying to survive in an utterly hostile world with remnants of the worlds military forces trying to do damage control. I know it sound a bit like I'm condoning cheating but I am not. It's just better to pretend it's just another crazy DayZ encounter than to get angry as long as they aren't autokilling or aimbotting or something like that. Or maybe I'm overthinking it a little.

I read your entire post in a thick Australian accent.

How many good people do you meet before you get shot?

What I just posted was perhaps a bit too pessimistic and an absolute worst case scenario. There will be some truly mean-spirited people who take every opportunity to do harm to others but most will just try to survive and stay out of other peoples way for as long as possible. (plenty of people who do that in DayZ and I'm one of them) It's also silly to think that a game can be a real 1 on 1 comparison but yes I think there is quite a bit of truth to it. :)

I know someone who has the same problem and doesn't play many games because of it. I'll be sure to pass some advice along. :) Turning off head bob sounds like a good idea.

This game simulates how under the thin veneer of civilisation humans are base animals. We play nice while we live our nice comfortable lives but take all that away and we will all be at eachothers throats. People will form gangs with those they know well and wage war with others over the last resources. The strong murder, rape and take what they need and the weak perish. I truly believe this game gives a glimpse of what will befall humanity during a disaster of apocalyptic scale and you can see evidence in wartorn Africa or the chaos after huricane Katrina. The movie 'The Road' with Viggo Mortensen also portrays this very well.

Many of them will get angry over buying ARMA 2 after they realise it's a game they don't have the patience for. The idiots will leave eventually after they have vented their frustration. Just sit back and enjoy the show people.

How many good people do you meet before you get shot?

I'm a new player and I have been shot on sight by the first 8 people I met. I tried the usual stuff like lowering my gun and communicating but they all seemed to panick and dumped their entire magazine into me. It has been educational. Now I slowly inch my way through the environment gliding from cover to cover listening intently for any sign of zeds or new friends to meet. The exposed metal parts of my axe have been dulled with soot so it's glint doesn't give me away in the pale moonlight and it's edge has been covered in a thin layer of feces to ensure the slow demise of anyone unfortunate enough to feel it's kiss. The axe casually rests in the crook of my arm ready to be brought down in a fluid arc that will split a cranium with easy. On my back is an old canvas backpack bulging with the weight of many yellow fleshlights. Hello there friend! No need to be startled! Looking for supplies? That is a lovely fleshlight you have there? One can never have too many don't you think? Look! More hidden footprints! *crack!* -
No competent player should die

Well played' date=' watch those sniper spots and your corners. Play your cards right and you might run up on someone like me and get all their special equipment. [/quote'] It would indeed be wise to watch your back. You never know when some desperate hobo with a hatchet ends up behind you and walks away a rich man. ;) Anyone can get shot in the middle of fing nowhere by people they didn't spot hiding in the dense shrubs so It's delusional and arrogant to say that death by players is 100% avoidable because the only way to do that is not playing the game but I'm sure you realise that too. You had to move around to get your gear and there were numerous times you had to expose yourself to being shot in the proces before you could start camping out on a hill with a scoped rifle. I do agree with most of your points in the op though. I am quickly learning to appreciate this mod for the gem it is and I would hate to see it be destroyed to cater for the casual gamer crowd. They have tons of other games they can play. -

Having to defend yourself against a group of runners with and axe makes for desperate and brutal combat. I live in a country where private gun ownership is very restricted so the start of the game feel very realistic and immersive. Also, aren't the parts in zombie movies where people have to fend them off with comon household items the most violent and exciting? I will grudgingly admit that I love axes. :) You also can't deny their value as a stealth weapon by the way. I can't wait for the moment when I get to split the skull of a bandit sniper who failed to notice me. :D

On a average how quick do you find a gun?
Thanatos (DayZ) replied to Baiski AU's topic in New Player Discussion
I have been checking sheds, appartments, barns and factories for 4 hours but I only found a double barreled shotgun which was promptly lost when a sniper shot me as I exited the barn. Heaps and piles of ammo though. I still have a lot to learn or I was just a bit unlucky. Maybe both. :)
