My biggest killing streak so far. (Still not dead)

My best effort so far (and still going!): -
shooting outside your range - mildots
Xiroth replied to Ribano's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Each mildot represents 100m (fully zoomed in). So if you were zeroed in for 1000m, and wanted to hit something at 1300m, you just have to aim 3 mildots above the target. You can test it in Arma2 map editor :-) -
Just to make things a little more interesting, if someone steals your equipment / vehicles or whatever and has an encampment set up which you'be seen but don't have the firepower to raid, or even If there's someone you want dead for the sake of it (ie a group member who's being a jerk and you wouldnt mind their stuff), PM me here with coordinates and as much Intel as you can and my group and I will attempt to hunt them down and kill them. The cost? Nothing more than the satisfaction of murder. We are armed to the teeth and don't need any equipment, and we will even leave all the loot for you to take. This could be fun heh.

dayzmod.com - Aug 2012 - Q&A with Rocket
Xiroth replied to Max Planck's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Q: In the future will you enable players to become infected with the zombie virus, infecting others they come in contact with and eventually succumbing to the infection becoming a zombie themselves? I think player controlled zombies would be a really exciting addition, and infected people would cause all sorts of backstabbing, mistrust etc. -
Pretty much. If you've got nothing to lose, then why worry?

I won't lie, I take pride in my long distance kills! I enjoy the challenge of hitting a moving target at 600m +. You have to predict your targets movements, watch their actions and pick the right time to take your shot. Longest shot I've made was a little over 1000m, hit them straight in the neck when they went to vault over a fence and were heading away from me. Missing a shot can mean they log off, or start running sporadically making them very hard to hit at range. I find you usually have time to make corrections and fire a second aimed shot before they realise they've been shot at. Depending on distance, and how on "edge" they are, from the moment you first shoot you can have anywhere between 3-5 seconds before they realise what's going on. For example, at 600m it takes the sound of the gunshot a good 1.5s to reach them, then a 1.5s reaction time for them to process and react to this (2.5s if they are in a relaxed state). I work with road planning you see, and have to factor things such as sight distance ands speed / reaction times to calculate braking distances and use this to design roads for minimal accident risk.... Who would've thought I could apply those skills in a game! There are many other factors too but too many to list here. All this being said, I've had my fair share of close combat gun fights too. They are just as fun and a lot more intense, really get your heart racing!

Tonight was a little slow, but paitence paid off and I ended up with a few extra kills to my tally. My group met up, discussed the game plan, and headed out hunting for the night. We started near Cherno tonight as we were moving west along the coast the night before, so I found myself a nice spot on a random bush / hill near by and watched over them as they raided all the cafe's looking for ghile suits. We then decided to split up, and i headed west towards Elektro with my trusty spotter. Along the way I spotted someone running along the train lines and ended their life with a quick round to the chest from 500m or so, this was an easy kill as they were just about running directly towards me. We then scaled the hill inbetween the two cities where we sat for 20 minutes or so. There I saw a duo running past the lighthouse towards Cherno perpendicular to me, one of which was quite geared, I could see an AS50 on his back. I zeroe'd my gun, fired a shot, missed by a fraction, adjusted quickly and fired off a second round before he would have even heard the first, hitting him in the neck resulting in a splash of glorious red mist B) Like a bee to honey his companion immediately ran to his downed comrade's corpse to loot as he was most likely being screamed at to "get my gear!" I imagine. Like taking candy from a baby, I ended his life too. We then continued on towards Elektro where we found another random spot with a reasonably good view of the city (I think part of my survival success is i'll rarely use the same spot more than once, and my spotter never sits next to me. Always sits a bit away so he has a better view of my surroundings.)... There were two people inside the supermarket that i caught a glimpse of as they moved around inside. I waited till the door re-opened and put a bullet right through the guys chest. His friend closed the doors and ran into a back room and sat there which gave me time to line up a shot through the window, killing him shortly after. The gunfire spooked some guy I didn't see who was hiding nearby in a bush, and he got up and bolted. I put a round through his back as he vaulted over a fence. I decided we've made enough noise and went back to meet up with the others. We ran over the same hill again inbetween the cities where i stopped briefely and scanned the surrounds (oh yeah, we always travel via trees/forrests, never EVER out in the open unless you have absolutely no choice... its suicidal!). This was the greatest moment of the night. As I was scanning, some poor unfortunate sod spawned smack bang right in the middle of my crosshairs. I couldn't believe my luck! The guy was dead before he even completed spawning.... The others had some luck in Cherno and got involved in a few minor gunfights with no casualties on our side. No ghile suits unfortunately, but they grabbed some additional medical supplies while they were in the vacinity. My total count now is 40 murders, with 1 bandit kill. Seems there aren't as many bandits out there as I thought....

You sir, know EXACTLY what I'm talking about.

Why thank you! I'll report back here with murder count updates until my death, and how I was killed etc. I find the biggest rush now is being seen / shot at. You get this immense feeling in your gut of impending doom and just think "oh shit, am I about to die?". Firefights seem to activate my "flight or fight" reflex though, and I fight to the death and remain calm whilst doing so. It's only afterwards I begin to think "holy crap that was close" or "that could have been a lot worse" if you know what I mean.

Yup. I'm glad its being disabled while alive next patch!

Ouch that sucks :-/ I had 16 murders with a previous life* and was killed by accidentally hitting the respwan button instead of options...

700k Players (almost) Reached today

Nice! -
I was driving my 4WD down a hill near the edge of a forrest with 2 friends in the car with me when I decided to change my graphics options to see what the 4WD looked like with higher settings, but instead of hitting options I hit respawn and instantly died, and the 4WD then veered into a nearby tree and exploded because it had a red engine, killing my 2 friends as well. They have never let me drive again. Hell annoying but funny as when you look back on it.

Disconnect, change server, flank, reconnect. Simple solution.
Xiroth replied to Junos's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
How about this: When you leave a server and reconnect within say, an hour, you spawn in the location you logged out on that specific server. You would probably be able to abuse the feature by being able to backtrack etc, but at least it can't be used to flank others. -
I think a 10 - 15 second timer that cancels if you take any damage whatsoever, and forces you to stand up and be stationary should suffice. If you alt + f4 then it just continues trying to log you out automatically.

Hey all, first post here :) Just wanted to throw in my 2c. I started playing this mod a few weeks back and after several deaths early on I quickly learned not to trust anyone I came across. I also learned the value of traveling with companions and how much more effective two people are in just about every situation opposed to being a lone survivor. I travel in a group that's usually between 2-6 people strong. We kill just about everyone we come across (after scoping the area out, checking if they're alone or with friends, checking for nearby Zed's that may aggro etc, then follow them waiting for them to make a bad move like run through an open field or something.) I've been alive 15 days now and I personally have 8 murders to my name. Between us all it would be in the 20's, and we have taken no casualties yet as we're very careful to engage and will not if it's too risky. There are plenty people we've seen, that haven't seen us, that we've let live simply because its too dangerous for us to kill them and retrieve their equipment.... Now my point is this: Playing as a bandit is in no way "Easy mode". We still raid supermarkets, still check deer stands, still have to find food / water / medical supplies / fuel for vehicles etc. I believe it's just a better way to survive. My advice to you is don't trust anyone you see outside your immediate group, and if you are alone you're most likely going to be an easy target. There was one murder we made at the airfield by getting our sniper to shoot in the general direction of a target he couldn't actually see, and when the target turned to face the direction of the gunfire, that allowed the others to pop up behind them and make the kill without having to worry about being shot at. At the end of the day, It's either you or me....
