I'll be honest about it despite the bits of shame that I feel for it. I had never been to the NW airfield before, and I was alone. I had the goal to go there in mind before I loaded anything up, and so I selected the lowest population server that I could find and set off from Elektro. I had a map and compass and matches, hatchet, knife combo for outdoor living. The part I feel ashamed about is picking the lowest pop server, I feel like it's a cowards way. The thing I remember most is how difficult the actual journey to the airstrip was for me. Going completely on foot from the opposite end of the map, I set off. I wanted to avoid towns completely, I was determined to be a complete ghost to any other would-be murderers in any general area. I found an animal of unremembered variety, took it's meat and I began to feel like I was doing well. Soon, however, my pepsi and coke supply were down to one of one and none of the other. And I was thirsty. It must have been all of that damned MEAT! I searched for water supplies on one of the various online maps, there was one fairly close. I reached it easily enough, drank and refilled my water bottle, and continued. Soon, I was in the same thirsty state and once again low on liquids. There were times between water sources when I was sure I'd die of thirst, and then eventually I began to have trouble finding wild animals, besides rabbits (mother nature giving me the finger) too. It was rough times. Morale was low, I wasn't sure I'd make it. But I did. I canvased the area for longer than I probably should have, as I was due to start dying from famine at any time. The place seemed empty. I knew nothing of the geography or layout of the area, so I took my time. I found the water pump almost first thing, and I was delighted. I encountered some zombie problems at this point. These began in a fashion that was easy enough to deal with. I killed everything chasing me, bled a little, and got some better loot inside the barracks. I proceeded to the hangars and the control tower. I had problems in the Hangar trying to lose zombies there, it isn't really considered indoors, and I bled some more. Then I went to the control tower. There is where things got really bad for me. The zombies were EVERYWHERE. They were coming through the door, and some of them, clearly Government Wizards before their infection, were coming through the walls. Some previous survivor, laughing his ass off, had strung barbed wire across the stairs. Despite lots of lost blood, I had miraculously not broken any bones. But now my bandages were running out. I used my toolbox to get up the stairs, and met 2 more zombies in the control room area. I had not expected this, and one rushed forward. I managed to shoot this infected in the face, but he had his triumph too, breaking my leg before he keeled over and died. I fell unconscious. I woke up nearly dead, bleeding, and being eaten. Yet I was alive. I killed the last of the infected, and crawled to the coveted loot pile in the center of the room. An AK74-U. A nice find for me. What I really needed, though, was medical attention. Still I had brought one morphine, and I used it, along with my last bandage. I don't remember how little blood I had, but I was low enough to be collapsing regularly. I decided to gtfo. I made my way to the woods. About half way to them, I passed out, and a nearby zombie came by and ate me. All in all, it was an excellent time in Day Z.

Definitely worth the watch, thanks for posting this :-) Really interesting to hear Rocket's ideas.

In case you ever read this thread again, try out Dayz Commander, it's a program a person named Dotjosh on these forums created and it is a launcher for Dayz. It only shows Dayz servers and allows you to filter servers with things like "I want it to be daytime and have 3rd person enabled".

Entertaining :-)

I think I'm going to chalk it up to the maintenance being done on Arma 2. Sounds reasonable, never had anything like this happen before, and just found out about the work being done. So be warned, peeps, glitches be afoot more than usual at the moment.

No, this was my very first log in of the day. My last login was about 16 hours ago, albeit on a different server (which is currently offline)

Just logged into US 742 in the wilderness. Logged in with a broken bone, no inventory (was fine before I logged) and the message that my character was killed. I am actually not dead (still able to look around), but curious as to what happened here. It isn't a big deal, I don't mind restarting, but does anyone know if this was just a server problem, or a hack?

I have never seen zombies walk inside of a hangar. Rising is correct, they are not indoors. Having something above you does not constitute as indoors, just like zombies will run in construction areas underneath catwalks that are not inside of a building. Zombies have been running inside of hangars since I started playing, which was 1.7.1.5

Hi, this is a repost from a response I made to a similar thread yesterday. It may not all apply and might not be exactly what you are looking for, but it can't hurt to post it here too. If you are a new player I highly suggest looking for a low population server to get your bearings on before you venturei nto the more densly populated servers. Also, take note that most of the coastline areas are pvp hotspots since the are so close to the spawn points. There are a select few areas more north that attract a lot of players (such as the NW airstrip, Stary Sober, and the surrounding towns to the airstrip, plus a few more.) When youre on a fresh start and you need supplies, I like to head to either Elctro or Cherno (the two largest cities, located in the central area of the southern coast). You'll need to learn which buildings to loot and which ones to pass over, at least until you know what spawns where and where you need to go to have a good chance of finding what you want. Supermarkets are an excellent loot source. Generally lots of food and drink, a chance at a primary weapon and a sidearm, binoculars, compass, map, watch, and a bigger backpack. Firestations (look for a building with a 4 floor windowed tower coming out of the top, and 3 red double doors on the front of the ground floor) provide military grade loot. Know in advance, though, that most people know this and thus these spots are frequented by many players (there are only 4 firestations that I am aware ofin the whole game: 2 in electro, 1 in cherno, and 1 at the NW airstrip). Looting a firestation is a high risk high reward endeavor. You may come across problems getting rid of zombies, but know it really isn't that tough. If you are being chased and need to lose the zombies, look for a building with a front door AND a back door. Zombies walk indoors, so lure them to the center, and dip out the back (crouch run out the back door). This will lose zombies quite easily. Try not to spend too much time in any large city. People WILL turn up there. Get what you need and get out. If you do visit Cherno and Electro, make sure to hit up the hospital. You'll need to break the glass to get in, but you can use an empty tin can, bottle, or soda can to do this (you can cycle through your firing options with the F key). You will see cardboard boxes among the loot piles. These generally contain a very large amount of medical supplies, but cannot be opened unless you loot the items lying on the floor around the box first. Say you decide to begin with Electro. I personally would run to the market first, looting whatever you want, then zip over to the nearby office building (but be careful in office buildings, they are full of side rooms and it's very hard to cover all of your angles once inside), make a quick trip through said office building, and move on to the hospital. Loot what you need (morphine, bandages, a blood bag or two if you have a friend who can transfuse you, and a painkiller or two) and then either risk it with the fire station (one or both, if you are feeling REALLY daring) or just head north out of the city and into the woods. You can skip the fire stations if you do not want to risk it, and just head north instead. From a safe location take a moment to decide what you want to acquire next (do you want a vehicle? A bigger bag? A map/compass/some other piece, a toolbox? A better gun?) and plan accordingly. Check http://dayzwiki.com/...title=Main_Page for some useful information. I hope that helps you, and happy hunting :-)

How do you find out who is in a helicopter?
MrSnaps replied to FoulMouth's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If it is a hacker there isn't really much you can do as they will likely never run out of fuel, crash, etc. If they do somehow crash, you can examine their dead body to find out their name. -
Human Revolution is a child's Deus Ex game. Original or bust. On topic, this community isn't NEARLY as bad as some I have seen. Go look at the Diablo 3 forums for instance. Most communities tend to be comprised of mostly people with some gripe or another (as happy people don't generally write about how happy they are) and people who enjoy answering questions, theorizing, and dissecting poorly constructed arguments. As any game becomes more and more popular, you will always see a corresponding increase in negativity in said game's community. Add on top of that the fact that in most games, death is not permanent, and it means a complete restart in DayZ, and people will make accounts to shed some of their rage. It's to be expected, really. This community is FAR from bad. There is honestly a lot of positive feedback, positive stories, and positive attitudes. There will always be complainers, though, and nothing will ever prevent that. Also, this forum doesn't seem to punish people for being volatile, which is something that I like. It does, however, make for some heated discussions.

I think the better question is what's to stop them from robbing the buyer? Nothing at all. (Note robbing can refer to bait and switch, or an in game murder, etc.)

Sounds like La22 was the victim of a hacker. Bad luck, but there really isn't anything that can be done about it other than posting about it, which you have done. Maybe the admins will see your post and review the logs. Even then it's hard to catch a hacker.

Of course. That is, if I had already cleaned it out first. Another option would be to snipe the location from a distance, but in theory yeah, that's the smart thing to do. Yes the liklihood of another loner finding X location followed by your location is low, but low is not zero. Some players tail other players for very long distances. I can't carry every single weapon I find, so if you are tailing me with a makarov and I clear out all of the zombies in the area, take what I want and leave the rest to you, you could very well wind up with an AK and gun me down an hour later. Playing it safe is the name of the game. Denying other players loot is playing it safe. Yeah, it's a jerk thing to do perhaps, but I'd rather be a living jerk than a dead nice guy. It's the same logic as wiring doorways in firestations. You'll have a hard time beating an M104 with a makarov, but that only applies If i keep you from obtaining a better weapon.

Great deathmatch / team deathmatch mod !
MrSnaps replied to CERVO (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm not trying to be a jerk here, but you simply need to improve your survival skills. Most people are going to shoot you on sight because you as a human player pose a threat to them. If you are looking to survive you need to avoid unknown players because you have to assume they will shoot you. If you want people to play in a group with, ask around on the forums. Don't just blindly trust random people you come across in game, that's a very very foolish thing to do. This is the end of days, not a camping trip.
