Private Shards with 0.49? Features? Price?

Most of you are talking about two extreme points: giving admins complete control and giving admins no control. But there is a big grey area in between. I think, admin shouldn't have: - access to the database - the power to spawn items/vehicles But we should discuss granting the power to: - access the logs (maybe not full access, but enough to enforce their gameplay rules - as stated in the above mentioned devlog from August 1) - change server settings (accelerated time, PvE/PvP) - teleport (getting players unstuck, setting up events, finding hackers/dupers/glitchers) - see the admin map (to catch hackers who teleport/speedhack)

Private Shards with 0.49? Features? Price?

I wonder what features will enable admins to "Define and enforce server gameplay rules (eg: DayZRP, PvE only, etc)" (Quote from the above mentioned devblog). Any ideas?

Private Shards with 0.49? Features? Price?

I think you are referring to the Devblog from the 1st of August: About the user slots: The only current Private Shard in the Serverbrowser (hern22.multiplay.co.uk) has 64. I am pretty sure I saw other Private Shards with 75 slots a week ago.

    The Social Experiment, Goes Wrong.

Great video. Really intense! Good job to all of you. The switch to Bates POV was epic. Hope you repeat the social experiment.

Status Report - Week of 25 August 14

Thanks for the update. It's always great to read those status updates. May I ask if there is any update on private shards (release date, pricing, server options)?
  6. Private shards are a feature and thus should be added and tested in alpha. I think we will see private shards implemented very soon. And the game will be in alpha for a quarter to half a year from now on.
  7. Given the proper tools, good server admins could be the cure to hacking. But some players seem to be too lazy to take a minute and find the right server. There were plenty of DayZ-mod servers with good websites and forums. One little peek into those forums and you knew if it was server with abusive admins or not. Of course I have seen my fair share of admin abuse and I bet there are more bad admins than there are good ones. But I spent way more time on servers with good admins and it was the best DayZ experience.

    Private Shards

I think a lot of players are looking forward to play on a private shard in a closed (whitelisted) community. Maybe they enjoy the non-server hopping, non-ghosting experience. Maybe they like the roleplaying opportunities. Maybe they like the fact that your actions carry consequences on a closed server. I think private shards will be very popular once they are released.

    No RCon Support anymore?

I have made the same experience as SniperMexican. Without any support it is next to impossible to run a server with a healthy community. At least they should give admins limited log access. Admins should be able to see who killed whom and when. I think most players do not recognize how much work admins put into their servers.

    Private Shards

Can: -Define and enforce server gameplay rules (eg: DayZRP, PvE only, etc) - Kick and ban I ask myself how the "define and enforce" part is meant. Is it just the allowance to kick and ban players who do not follow the rules? Will admins have any chance to find out who "troublemakers" are? Will "friendly fire" be deactivated in PvE only? The dayzRP rules are a bit more complicated, will the server support the admin in any kind?

    WTF are with the Books?

    doublepost - sorry -

    WTF are with the Books?

I would like the idea of the implementation of a mental-health skill. This game is about survival, right? Ever read or seen "The road"? It's as important to keep your body in shape as your mind. For a person like me, growing up in a "civilized" world, books could help me keeping my mind healthy. EDIT: It would be easy to implement to change the status of books to "consumables". It'd be like beans that you can read it in parts, like 5% each time. Each reading will bring your mental-health up towards stable. If you have read a certain book you can't use the same title again. Books could also replenish after a certain time by themselves. Everyone of those classics can be re-read after some time. It would encourage the sharing of books, cause you can't carry them all, which would lead to more player interaction.
  13. We met Dominik "Nik", Petr and their 10-year-old brother Sasha at the outskirts of Polana. See what happens in the end and please don't mind the bad quality.

[Falcon] DayZ Standalone Roleplay/Realism Server Private Shard

I very much like the idea of your server and have also read your rules. May I ask some questions? Which admin tools do you guys need to enforce those rules? Which features do you expect? And: Will you keep up the rules list if there are no admin features like now?

Justice dealt to spawn killers! (plus mass panic)

I watched the whole video and liked it a lot. The best part is where you always shoot first, then say sorry and tell the viewers you panicked.
  16. Preface: Please keep this thread clean and civil. If you don’t like the ideas, tell me so but please do it in a civil, respectful manner. Thank you! Also, I posted this in “General Discussion” because I want to discuss the features of the server, not only advertise. Welcome to -=[ Elysium ]=- (not related to the 2013 Sci-Fi-Movie)! With the introduction of PRIVATES HIVES in DayZ-Standalone we will re-open the -=[ Elysium ]=- server. Elysium was founded about a year ago as a DayZ Origins RP server, it had a whitelist consisting of over 100 players. People had to write a decent background story to apply as well as give their word of honor not to hack, cheat or dupe in any way. We will soon re-open -=[ Elysium ]=- as a DayZ Standalone PRIMETIME Server, combined with a new website or Facebook page. This server will be for players who only have a limited time available to play DayZ and wish their limited time to be especially exciting, but it may also appeal to hardcore players wishing to have a new and exciting way to play DayZ. In the next few days we will start recruiting: AdministratorsModeratorsEvent ActorsEvent ExtrasIn-Game-Journalist/StreamersWhat you can expect from the -=[ Elysium ]=- PRIMETIME server: • AGE RESTRICTION: The server should support players of at least 18 years of age. • PRIVATE HIVE: The server will have a private hive and a database separated from the public hive. You will have a separate character on this server which you can’t bring into the public hive. This also means there will be no server hoppers and no people “ghosting” on this server. • ADMIN ONLINE: The server will be monitored 12/7 by administrators supported by moderators helping you out when getting stuck, giving you tech support, answering questions about the game, giving support when being subject to griefing. Administrators may be contacted via Skype or on our Teamspeak Channel. In the far future we hope it will be possible to contact admins via an ingame command (/admin <text>). • PRIME TIME: Every day at the time most players will be able to play (like from 8pm-12pm, depending on the server’s time zone) there will be four hours of PRIME TIME. During this period, trained event actors will be online ingame, playing persistant roles. Those roles may include - special bandit characters - medics - special lone or groups of survivors with special needs (like Clementine from the TWD game) - small communities living at special locations like Devils Castle (remember the movie “Reign of Fire”?) - groups of surviving military - a setup for a big community with a governor like in TWD’s Woodbury - scientist looking for a cure for the infection and so many many more. You may encounter those characters at random or by visiting the location they live in (if they are at home). In the future we want players to be able to flag themselves as “available for events”, combined with the admin features “map” (showing all locations of players) and “teleport”. When these features are available and you're flagged as "available" you can expect to experience an exciting encounter over the course of the next 30 minutes. Please note: All sessions will be monitored and directed by an -=[ Elysium ]=- GAMEMASTER. The characters themselves won’t have any special powers, only the GAMEMASTER will be able to equip and teleport them to their location. • YOUR PERSONAL STORY: It will be taken care that every player will have a unique special and personal story or mission in the game, if they like to have one. At character setup you’ll be asked if you’d like to have YOUR PERSONAL STORY. You will find YOUR PERSONAL STORY over the course of your first week playing on the server (or it will find you, depending on the admin features available to us). YOUR PERSONAL STORY will be a dynamic story in the mindset of DayZ, The Walking Dead or any other good zombie movie or book. This story will react on what you do. If you kill the guy who was bringing you a message, or you kill the nice family who was asking for your help, the story will still go on. Something will happen that relates to what you do. • BECOME-A-LEGEND: In the end your story will develop into a role you play on the server, the way you play the game will shape your role. Maybe you are an infamous bandit, maybe you are the nice guy, the medic, the lead of a small or a big group, a cities mayor. The role won’t be defined by any rules or restrictions, it is a reflection of your actions ingame. • IT WILL BE NON-PROFIT: [Edit: We will try to get this server going for about three months. But after that] In the future we won’t be able to run this server free of charge. Please note, this is just an idea at the moment, not a business model. [Edit: This shouldn't be about money making, but about sharing the cost when you enjoy what you get.] Of course everything involving money has to be approved by Bohemia Interactive first. I am thinking about a non-profit solution, where every Dollar or Euro paid goes directly into hosting costs and paying a small compensation for administrators and actors (and actress) as well as writers, directors and gamemasters. The more players willing to play on our PRIMETIME server and the more those players are willing to pay the more content and “act-ion” can be provided for them. [Edit: "Non-profit" also means that there is 100% transparency about the costs.] • CLOSED SERVER POPULATION: After the server reaches a number of players, the whitelist will be closed for new players. Up to a certain maximum amount (120-200% of the maximum server connections), players can still invite friends to join them on the server. There will be a lot of unique players on the server but you’ll also be able to learn to know some players by meeting them in game. That also means that your actions carry consequences. If you’re a known bandit roaming around Stary Sobor, people may not approach you in a friendly kind of way. • STILL A DAYZ EXPERIENCE: There will be no high level item handouts, no ingame-shop, there will be no shortcuts for players getting loot. It won’t be easy-mode. You’ll still sneak through cities for your can opener, you’ll still be killed at the beach for your axe. There’ll still be a massacre at Balota, there’ll still be bandits at NWAF. It will still be the DayZ experience. Plus a lot of fun random encounters, a lot of fine dialogue (with YOU), a lot of moral choices, many great adventures, persistant (but not immortal) actor-characters. Think of it as Skyrim meets DayZ but it’s all live and everything can happen. There are no NPC. Everything is possible. Encounters and events won’t be scripted, but a lot of thought will be put into what may happen and what will allow the story to progress. Thanks for reading this far. If you have the time, please answer my questions: Would you like to play on the -=[ Elysium ]=- PRIMETIME server?Would you like to join the -=[ Elysium ]=- PRIMETIME staff? What other features would you like to see on the -=[ Elysium ]=- PRIMETIME server?Would you even be willing to pay for a server like this? If yes, how much are you willing to pay per month?
  17. If you have any questions or want to contact me, you can always send me a message through this forum.
  18. We are going to host a little live rehearsal event "Hatfield & McCoy on a public server this weekend. I saw some people are following this post, so if anyone wants to take part in it, send me a message through my Facebook-site.
  19. Thanks a lot for the clarification. I very much hope this ends the discussion about where this thread belongs. I'll be very happy when it is finally moved, because that means the server will be up and running. Babybasher: i'm just gonna keep playing dayz the way it's intended to be played. Why do you think that the -=[ Elysium ]=- idea is against the way DayZ Standalone is intended to be played? What part of our idea do you object?
  20. No , I mean how can I get to see a similar thing in Dayz on your server? It's something like a Theme village, right? It'll depend on the features available to us. I don't want to spoil too much, but with the proper features it will blend in with your style of playing the game. If I am able to find you in game, your story can progress without you taking notice of the mechanics behind it. You don't have to visit a checkpoint, you will just act the way you like to act and your story will progress. It'll be more like the whole server is a theme park, but the ride won't be a nice one. Without admin features we may have to announce bigger events and may have to rely on certain hotspots for random encounters. Whats the monthly membership fee that you guys charge? Membership fee is a dangerous topic. Most replies I got in this thread go strictly against it. I think if players want to contribute we will take donations when we are ready for it. Before we start this I want more concepts in written form to show people in detail, what we are trying to archive and how we are planning to do so, without spoiling too much. Pembro and Lorax: More info on the server is available on the FB-page shown in my signature. P.S.: @Morrow: See post #46, please.
  21. I remember that particular scene very well. I was directing the event from outside the game, instructing the actors and keeping track of the story, changing it "on-the-fly" whenever needed. The actor who played Dr. Whitaker was fabulous. When players brought him to his old house, they found the body of his daughter. He told the players to wait outside, but they could listen to him having a "dialogue" with his dead daughter ("Nina, if you can hear me, this is your father. I know I have never been a good dad..."). He told me, when he left the house, all players who witnessed him mourning were standing in a line, saluting. He said he got goosebumps seeing that. It's a real shame we didn't think about recording the first event. If I only had a 5 minute recording of this scene or one of the other great scenes (the actor of Dr. Whitaker's son was also absolutely great), we woudn't have any problems advertising our ideas. I have a few recordings of the second event but alas, the actor forgot to turn on the recording of his own voice in Fraps. So it doesn't make any sense to release this recording.
  22. Lady Kyrah: It is the decision of the moderators of this forum that this thread belongs in General Discussion, because it's not an actual server (yet). I am a hundred percent okay with them putting the thread where ever they think it fits. I very much hope to discuss the features of the server, the unique situations that can happen on a server like this, the things we need to run the server, the costs and the risk and reward granting admin powers. If someone has a question, please don't hesitate to ask. If you like to comment or express your opinion about the server and the features, feel free to do so.
  23. I think it's a good idea for the server to be monitored. It should be a good tool to prevent abuse. But the question is: How to find someone who is... • independent • respected and trusted by the community • having a lot of free time • doing it for free? And it get's a lot more difficult when one has to think about who will monitor the person who monitors the server. So I think an even better tool is to have players monitor the server, like it is done now with servers kicking people/ having no-KOS-rules/ being locked. If someone suspects our gamemasters to abuse their powers (like handing out gear to players), the player can report the server. If the server gets too many abuse reports, we get the chance to remove the abusive gamemaster. If abuse doesn't stop, the server will be shut down. We'll be investing a lot of money and free time in the server so we will do everything in our power to prevent abuse. It's of utter importance for the atmosphere on the server that players trust us to play fair. When this trust is broken, the idea of the server falls apart.
  24. Good stuff. We will try to implement this when we have a website. At the moment the FB-page is doing well but we hope to have a website in the near future. What about the monitoring question? From your signature I see that you are interested in preventing abuse. How do you think it is possible to effectively monitor a server? Who could do that? Done.
  25. No hate. I can only say the position "loremaster" is still available, if you'd like to apply...
