Why does every sniper I shoot at ALT-F4?

Why? I'll tell you why from my experience with the guys I play(ed) with - it takes too long to duplicate all that gear, or to run back to their very-out-of-the-way camp to re-gear with duped stuff in their tents. I gave up playing with them to just stick around cities and kill people with whatever gun I find, but that's the honest truth as to why they abort. There is a secondary reason that one of my group displayed, and that was that he demanded encounters be on his terms. Problem was ... he failed every one of the few times he tried, and generally plays all night, nearly every night, on servers with less than 10 people on them trying to assemble or steal vehicles for no other goal than having them, bragging, and maybe picking up someone from the coast once in a while. This type of player comes straight from Arma gaming where they only fight against computer generated enemies. One shot in our general direction and instead of sticking around to let the cards fall, and perhaps win it, I'll hear "About! Abort!" on teamspeak and he'll be out of the game before anyone. He is proud of his 14 or 15 day streak of being alive... I negate that by not caring if I don't live an hour as long as I am not playing a boring life.

Why Bandit skins are a terrible idea.

+1 That's the thing that really gets me about it all - if the devs wanted us to be friendly we wouldn't point our guns around constantly. It's silly, and on the verge of only being acceptable to crazy-mass-killer types in real life.
  3. My suggestions revolve around the player experiences beyond that of zombies and other players. The environment is as important, at times, as anything else in the current mod. 1.) Keep the Beauty, and improve on it. One of the things that satiates me, and has me come back to the mod, is the serene beauty of being out in the woods while day turns to night. The stars are poking out, the shading seems good - since we're to be living in a post-apocalyptic world without power, and spending a lot of time outdoors, even with the threat of zombies and other players there should remain a feeling of peace and beauty as there is in real nature when not under a direct threat. ------------------------------------------ 2.) Another suggestion would be to have a random generator of weather with a very low, but possible, likelihood of tropical storm or tornado events (like a .001% chance). (Can you tell I just had to deal with tropical storm Isaac coming over my house?) Blinding rain going sideways, with super strong winds, could force players to find shelter or risk much faster hypothermia or destruction. 3.) There are no shovels in the current mod... I suggest that they'd be common, and that people should be able to alter the terrain shovel-full by shovel-full (with non-disappearing dirt... so if you dig a hole, a mound of dirt beside it will be pretty obvious unless you really spread it out). I can see trenches or walls of dirt as fortifications, and possibly some holes as traps (possibly for both players and zombies alike?). A shovel could be a requirement to hide a body if the body was drug outdoors.
  4. LOL, the story of my DayZ lives. I now just don't play it for a week at a time. Once a week I get the craving to get back into it... and I have to say that there is a serene beauty to when a server starts turning to night and the stars are coming out. I love that part of it. But, really, what else is there to draw us back to re-live the same fate over and over again? I tried random killings / ambushes in major cities, and it made me feel like a madman in real life. I have no doubt that I could survive a very long time with a canteen, matches, knife and hatchet to feed myself, so that goal or drive is gone. I'm not sure, then, what's left aside from making others miserable by stealing their vehicles and/or supplies (only to have them stolen from me when I go to sleep). Coupled with all of that, the hacks to die and respawn back at the shore without anything means only the crazy or people living in some illusion would continue to treat this as a game worthy enough to log into night after night once they've played it for a week or so.

    KILLING ON FIRST SIGHT

"The point of this mod is ..." just goes right out the window to any experienced player, and I'll tell you why. I am being teleported (generally to my death), or being teleported to (to be shot), on average, once every 6 to 12 hours of actual playing - this from far too many randomly chosen servers (save for having a good ping and not being really full) to be able to believe that just a few are vulnerable. So... the hours and days spent collecting loot, time after time, were all in vain. If, then, we are to 'play' and have fun with the game, the only option that doesn't waste time, but that makes sense, at this point it to gear up minimally (i.e. a pistol or a gun) and hunt other players (always armed ones) before our next teleportation and loss of all our hard-earned stuff. OP, you and I both know this mod could be about so much more, but the current state of affairs, being based off of Arma II (which really has about no PvP these days anyway) is just a fail-fest of dashed hopes and dreams. The mod or game you're looking for will come out eventually (maybe not by DayZ if Rocket sticks with Arma III and it turns out to be just as hackable), but the reality is that this just isn't it.

US 1637 Is NOT Shutting Down (Update)

My group has talked about getting a server for themselves - which I'm against. I wonder how interested they'd all be in also joining up with a private server as well? Pooled together, the costs amongst a few groups for one private server off of one machine would be minimal, and with the hacks being as bad as we all realize they are (I am teleported once every 24 hours from random servers, usually to my death) this seems the only route the current DayZ mod can go. I don't believe what we're doing is Alpha or Beta testing anymore since we all know the problems and nuances of the limitations of the current mod.

Instant kill cheat - Leg breaking :(

I don't see this as Spam. The "beta testing" is now over for this mod if the hacks continue to be as bad as they are, so we might as well all just discuss the new and interesting hacks we encounter each day. I have to re-spawn at the coast to them daily, so they are as much a part of the game as the 'Zeds.

    You fail to understand hacking

If I'm experiencing, minimally, an intended death by a hacker once within each 24 hour period of my playing (and not playing all day, every day), on servers I try to go to to avoid hackers, I'd say that your version of it not being "widespread" and 99% of other people's would be ridiculously off. So off, in fact, that I now consider you a troll. The adults that play this game liked it, or would like it, for the realism it should have. Dying four times in a day to hacks, or even my daily Thunderdome, means I can't even get to one end of the map in one evening's playing time anymore (because I'm teleported back to the north-west airfield, spawned 100 feet in the air, or teleported to and killed on a server with only two other guys on it). Enough with the fake denials already, buddy; it isn't funny, and you aren't credible.
  9. Dude, you're alive and healthy... be happy and run. Way to just turn off the moderators to those of us who are really stuck.

Combat Log Timer when did not combat log

And if that combat is by an invisible or teleported player... then how long do we have to wait?
  11. Request to be made conscious, and perhaps moved. Yesterday we had a mass-teleport of the US 842 server for the second time in 48 hours. Instead of a "Thunder dome" death match like the day before (I logged off in time to save myself since this type of PvP is a hack), this one apparently had a massive explosion go off where two of my team was killed outright, instantly, and two of us were made permanently unconscious. I logged, then logged in to another server and waited out the timer hour-glass, facing the sky and some trees (so probably not in the debug area), waited a good while longer after it hit bottom, and am still unconscious due to a hack. Hey, I'm at 4000 or less blood, and really don't mind bandaging myself and hiking back, but I need to be made able to do that, first, or request to be respawned with my not great, but OK, kit. Player Name: Barn Raider Player ID: 34649414 Thanks for any help, and please halt the mass-teleporting to kill us all.

    We need a purpose.

Holey disagree the game needs to be like every other game out there - i.e. having missions. Missions that are already in the game: find players to work with or trust repel players who aren't friendly collect stuff to make life easier collect parts to build a vehicle, or steal one (then use said vehicle to repair & retrieve more vehicles) The unique experience of DayZ could be improved by following the example of the last two in that list; create more complexity, ability, and self-structured 'missions' to make the game what you want of it. So let's say that my group and I decide that we want either electricity for our compound, or for the entire city of Elektro... we're industrious... so how can we get this power plant back online? (I could see trading goods, power, or something else to a community who runs the mine / quarries in the game for their coal.) It could certainly go in that direction, and while it would be great, the problem would be that it would probably grow away from the experience of being a survival-based endurance fest. Of course the problem with anything being survival based is... once a player learns enough personal skills and collects or creates good equipment, they're really at the stage of Rocky mountains' mountain-men of the past... they'd surely create shelters and try to improve upon life, and some would congregate to make communities who would want security (solid and high walls to prevent zombies and bandits from entering) and electricity. I'm just not sure, having played DayZ mod, that any stand-alone game that would allow me and my group to live on our own for days, weeks and months on-end in the wilderness (once I had a fire starter kit, an axe, and the ability to collect game and water) without allowing greater opportunity to re-create civilization, would warrant the $$ to buy it.
  13. The hacks, and that invisibility hack (saw it with a guy attacking me, or trying to, with an axe - axe swipes, no guy in 360 degrees view as I spun around three times), has me wondering how any server could ban server-disconnects during PvP this week. It's crazy, and I'd rather not play for a week or two (to keep my OK, but not stellar, gear) in hopes they find a way to fix it all. The night-time player-finds in the middle of nowhere, with only three to four other players on the entire server except for my group, and the teleporting to our location to take us out within minutes of login are just too much.

    Possible Hacker with health cheat

I'd agree, but some hackers may really be Rocket's future competitors (i.e. current game makers who hire hackers) trying to make this a no-go. Never forget that a good amount money is involved in lining either their pockets, or supporting this game style and game. There aren't enough gamers, and isn't enough money, for us all to buy every game out there, and unscrupulous business practices are hardly new.

    Why do regular/recruit servers exist?

I'm OK with all of this. Well thought out. Cross-server cross-level jumping is as much a kid's cheat as anything else. To the guys whining for more leniency, the thing that made this mod different, initially, from all the other games we could be playing was the realism. That 30% of you go back to children's games if the game was reverted back to its roots seems to mean little to Rocket... serving that level of player was never his intention if I understand him correctly. The true test will be if financial backers will go along with not making it as commercially feasible as nearly all the other games out there (save for, maybe, Eve Online where you lose your stuff permanently too). Hey, it's about time the grown-ups got a game for themselves, so I agree that the in-game cheats must be limited.
  16. corbon_hydrashock

My 100% fix for the artifacting graphics bug.

Sadly, this did nothing for me. shift -- flush doesn't do much of anything either. closing the entire Arma II client and coming back in - does nothing. Switching to Map, as the OP suggested, seemed to work on the initial approach, but once too close it doesn't work
  17. I was just on a Recruit server, and exploring a deer stand up around Novy Sobor, that seemingly glitched; it held up for two seconds (thought I'd die as zeds were near), but instead I was transported to a military-outpost with seemingly everyone on the server. It was a little interesting as people were in various positions with various guns that they would not have if they knew massive close-combat was about to ensue. I heard someone's voice say "fucking shit ... fucking shit" but in slow-motion as if a server was lagged, and heard two horns or warning claxtons that were probably also time-lagged slow ... I don't know if the purpose was supposed to only transport a limited group or player, or if the goal really was to transport everyone to one locality to have a massive shoot-out. I knew whatever it was that I didn't want any part of it, so I escaped and disconnected. Upon reconnecting to a different server I found myself at an airfield. Deciding to try yet another server to see if I could get placed back... I was back at that airfield, still in the grass. I ran into a hangar, and was then hunted down and killed by some player (this was not the original server that transported all of us).

    We need a purpose.

Missions would make it seem like every other cookie-cutter game for X-Box out there. FInally a developer thinks outside of the box... and the brainwashed ask to have the box re-instated. Hunt your fellow man, take territory, prosper.

    Green Mountain. ALONE. AT NIGHT.

I appreciate the skill, guts and stealth it took, and the video you made, but all that for just a shotgun?! Granted, it has more shots than that double you had, but ... wow. I've never been there, nor even seen it.... may have to make a run over one day. Incredible that, if I reacorrectly, it has only one loot drop spot?
