I've never experienced the server-wide death ring thing, but I've seen it in streams. The two experiences for me that stand out are pretty blatant. Fully auto m203 spam while my friend and I were riding bikes on the edge of the map (9 or so shots at a time every 5 seconds) was the first. Then Saturday we take out two guys near Prud, and a car horn starts going off pretty much on top of one of our group. We start accusing each other of having a horn (I found one at one point on a player I killed who got the jump on me with a L85) and eventually caught on to the fact that it was an invisible guy when bear traps started spawning all around us. We all logged and went to a different server with broken legs...after changing our profile names of course.

I'm 26, married and I play games around 55 hours a week. I'm pretty aware that I have a problem.

Stop shooting people who are Unarmed

I think a bigger issue would be "Stop shooting people after you've established friendly." -
What Graphics Card Should I Choose?
Huuwap replied to Baseballkid9734's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Wow, you don't know what you're talking about. You do know there are different aspect ratios than 16:9 don't you? It's quite likely his monitor's native resolution is 1920x1200 (16:10), in which case running at 1920x1080 would result in a stretched image and blurred pixels. What about monitors with native resolution of 2560x1600? Is that worthless? And should the man who bought that monitor run his games at 1920x1080 as well? Fucking moron. Idiocy runs rampant in these parts I see. ON-TOPIC: I have an HD 6870 and an i5-2500k and the game runs just fine at mid-high settings. -

In Process Changelog (WIP): * [FIXED] Graphical glitches with dead bodies (Rebinarized file should no longer produce graphical artifacts) * [FIXED] Converting between magazine types resets ammo count (Now only contains previous number of rounds) So I guess there's an answer...it's in process, but not necessarily confirmed for 1.7.2.5. -
So, I have a lot of friends who took my advice and purchased Arma 2: CO for DayZ specifically. I didn't expect the influx of "WHAT THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO DO AND WHY DOESN'T STEAM WORK." that came to me. To combat that a bit, I wrote a guide with my friends in mind. It is simple, quick and doesn't over explain why things are done. I'm an IT guy by trade, I guess I'm used to doing that. That said, here is the guide. Also a link to my blog at the bottom where this will be updated on a more regular basis than this post most likely. Step 1: Install Arma 2: CO and download Six Updater Suite. Run Arma 2 and Arma 2: OA one time each for preliminary setup. Run Six Launcher to install DayZ and update your Arma 2: OA beta installation. OPTIONAL STEPS (ignore if you only plan on playing DayZ mod) Step 2: Go to your Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead install folder. Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead Step 3: Rename ArmA2OA.exe to ArmA2OA.exe.bak Step 4: Go to Expansion\beta, copy arma2oa.exe from that folder to Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead Step 5: Right click Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead in Steam and go to Properties, then click “Set Launch Options”. Enter -beta=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion -nosplash -mod=@dayz in that field and click OK. NEW AND IMPROVED STEPS 4 & 5: Download and install DayZ Commander. Open the program and click “Settings” in the top right. Check the box next to “Launch using Steam” and “Replace original Arma2OA files with Beta so Steam works” and click done. BAM. Now you have an awesome server browser with filters and friend list functionality, PLUS all the in-game features of the Steam overlay. You will keep Arma 2 and DayZ up to date with Six Launcher, so when a new update comes out, run Six Launcher to update. Original steps 4 and 5 not completely removed and only struck-through because they are still valid and working, but DayZ Commander tends to be easier to use than the in-game server browser anyway and I personally enjoy it more. Original guide here.

That'll certainly fix dcing/reconnecting to bring ammo back, but will it fix the combination bug? -
Gun nerf made the game more challenging
Huuwap replied to Helsing's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You just have to hit it in the right spot. Left-most window (while facing the hospital), aim the shot right at the medical symbol. Never takes more than 2 shots. -
5 is plenty of time IMO. The biggest issue is hitting somebody, having them pass out and disappear. This at least gives you time to finish the guy off. Who cares if you shot and missed and the guy goes behind a tree and disconnects? Yeah, it's a cowardly playstyle and I don't condone it, but if you didn't put a bullet in him and he manages to get out of sight before logging off, so what? You lost a bullet flung his way with no guarantee that you'd finish him off.

Kicks by ping, and why its annoying
Huuwap replied to blackout14@live.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Sometimes it's a pain for me to play with my other friends in the US. I consider a ping of 180ms pretty reasonable, I have 8 - 13 hops no matter what server I connect to, I think kicks for anything under 200ms is unwarranted. -

I see. I guess I don't see what the big deal is then...I always have two or three zombies tailing me, talking or not =/. I thought you were going for actual aggro from some meaningful range, not a walk toward sound. Are you going for dissuading people from camping and communicating or what? Maybe I need to re-read your OP and make sure I completely understand what you're talking about, because zombies aren't challenging if you keep moving and you'll always have zombies on you if you're moving constantly. I think I see more of what you're trying to achieve. If your sniper is on a hill 500 meters away and gets killed, you may not hear the gunshot and if he's dead how does he tell you he's fucked over? Would give a reason for often check-ins and radio silence...but I really don't see how it could be implemented. I do think that would be a cool feature...I just don't see a realistic way to make it happen. -

3:33 - Direct comms don't aggro zombies. -

As long as I can talk to my teammates and only my teammates over a distance I'm cool with it. If there's a radio, maybe make a 2 or 3 meter audible range while sending/receiving audio, that would be realistic if that's what you're going for. Chances are I'll just use mumble anyway though because it won't be restricted - Rocket seems to be all for meta gaming. -

If communicating in the game alerted zeds to your presence, I would agree that external VOIP is bypassing an integral function of the game. However, that isn't the case and as a result should not be counted an exploit. In fact, here is a link for you: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/4227-request-allow-bans-for-death-dodgers/#entry62024 -

I think you misunderstand. We play as a group, we're always in close proximity, and the concepts are clearly communicated every time we need to regroup. If in-game comms didn't suck total ass (which you'd understand if you played), and if we were able to flag as group members and use a group channel in-game we'd use the in-game comms. Hand-held radios capable of a five mile range are not rare in the real world, and it's silly to think we wouldn't have a form of communication across a distance. It would lead to more KoS, guaranteed. People KoS because communication blows. If you can hit caps lock and scream "FRIENDLY FRIENDLY I DON'T EVEN HAVE A GUN FRIENDLY" while hiding behind a structure, your soon to be murderer may have heard a friendly, or they could have just heard gibberish. Generally, if you can't establish intent through words, you die...and when somebody tells you to go prone or they'll shoot you in the head and you can't understand that they said to go prone, you fucking die. WTB a better in-game audio codec. "It's not supposed to be fun so let's make it a single player horror game." is fucking stupid, in my opinion. I mean, that may be exactly what you're looking for in a game, but I need meaningful multiplayer, which means good communication systems, to enjoy a game. -

I live in mumble with several groups of friends playing several different games. Mumble dictates our game play. If you want to take the fun out of playing with friends, sure, restrict external VOIP...but it would be a bad move. -
Definitely Stary.

Yeah, I put some stanag rounds I didn't have room for on a goat near Stary yesterday.

Generally I'm not out for loot when I'm killing players. I guess you could liken my playstyle to the asshole at the bar looking for a fight. I run around Elektro/Cherno with a Lee Enfield and an M1911 and when I see somebody pointing a gun at me I shoot them and move on or get shot and die. It's a quick respawn though (not to say I die all the time, I have around an 8:1 KDR), and Enfields are everywhere. No reason to loot players when the best gun in the game is common =). -
Did you get your computer working again? Honestly, I'd put this down to coincidental timing. It's easy to blame something completely unrelated when you don't know any better. Quite likely you installed some sort of malware between restarts or a physical component failed...I'm betting on malware, a physical failure wouldn't allow you to get to the OS even. F8 on boot, select safe mode/safe mode with networking, windows key + r, msconfig, Diagnostic startup, restart. See if the problem persists. If not, you need to figure out which startup entry is causing you computer to restart and get rid of it, then run a full malware and virus scan.
