  1. I got that it's too easy for you to die from your op. I just assumed it was because you weren't able to get the kills and others are. That's what I get for making assumptions. I like it the way it is.
  2. 100 meters? A competent player can pick you from 350m to 500m easy with a Lee Enfield, maybe two shots from 700m. I see what you're saying, but learn to use the weapons and get those shots and I think you may change your tune.
  3. Anybody have a list of decent US night servers that don't allow the gamma boost exploit? I'd like to start actually using my flashlight/chemlights/flares without being at a disadvantage from everybody else on the server using the gamma exploit.

    Night Servers - No Gamma

Interesting. I don't know that I've ever paid attention to whether it was overcast/moonless since I usually spawn inside a building and didn't think that would make a difference. I'd think it would be as dark as it gets inside at night regardless of clouds/moon in a windowless room, LOL.

    Night Servers - No Gamma

I've joined a couple servers randomly that definitely either restricted gamma changes or decreased total light by a ton. Gamma changes didn't make a dent. I'm on one of the most recent beta patches and there has been no change there to how gamma in handled in game...I can still crank it up and get a pretty much perfect b/w night-vision equivalent picture, and it bothers me that I have to do it to keep things remotely fair. I understand there's no way to keep people from hacking their brightness/gamma up by external means, but I'd say that's the exception rather than the rule and much more of a bother than simply going into options and moving a slider.
  6. I did some thinking on this last night. Well, not necessarily this, but PVP in general and where it takes place. Most new spawns get killed somewhere along the coast between Cherno and Elektro. People seem to think these are good places to gear, maybe even the best places to get gear early on. I was on 3 different servers in these two towns last night, and most loot was pretty well picked over...but I stayed because I like interaction with other players, whether that be positive or negative, and my normal group was either offline or pretty far north. Either everyone else in town has that same outlook (interaction with others, whether it's positive or negative) or they made a terrible mistake and need to branch out to other towns with more abundant loot spawns due to a lower population of people looking for interaction with other survivors (Zelenogorsk and Berezino come to mind). If you want to play this game as a group of survivors surviving in some sort of "authentic" way, you need to get the hell out of the city and make camp somewhere in the woods close to low-risk loot to sustain your group. You don't need military loot, so you can stay away from airfields, and vehicles spawn in several small Chernarus towns. You don't have to put yourself in the middle of conflict if that's not your play style...you just need to find a group of people who share that ideal and build off it with them. I think some sort of group system is a great idea - make your teammates easily identifiable and open up a group chat option. In a real world scenario walkie talkies aren't that difficult to come by. Base building options would also be an improvement. Survival is already in there - you need to eat, maintain a temperature and stay hydrated on top of maintaining a high blood level. Horror is extremely subjective and not everybody will be pleased ever, and it's not the goal of this "zombie apocalypse simulator" as I understand it.

    Simple but effective

I agree. It would just make "survivors" a bigger target if grief is the end goal.

    OMFG Rocket!!!

Feedback is great. Game changing silly ideas are...well...silly and game changing and completely up to him.
  9. Rocket also stated that the game was meant to be "authentic" and psychopathic fellows in addition to people who retain their humanity is certainly authentic as I see it. You take a risk to snipe, especially in a high pop area, and you bet your ass those psychopathic fellows sniping Elektro from the hills are paranoid and anxious as hell every time they hear a shot. The main problem is that death isn't permanent in this game (making the overall experience authentic light), so there isn't anything keeping that same psychopathic fellow from respawning/gearing/hill camping....but that really isn't a problem because that's the niche that player fits in the game world. It's easy enough to take routes that are out of sight of snipers, or flank the sniper if you have some basic knowledge of map layout. Yeah, I phrased my response a bit confusingly. Basically, normal things that happen in the game world cause enough paranoia in a player putting himself in risky situations (possible contact with players, especially when seeking them out) that an in-game system to trigger emotions is completely unnecessary.

    DayZ Sniping story in Elektro.

    On top of judging range better, you need to disable post processing so you don't get that ridiculous blur when moving your view and if you haven't already disabled mouse accel and smoothing, you should. Good vids in any case. In-game open the menu and go to Controls > disable mouse smoothing. In Documents\Arma 2\arma2oa.cfg change GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1000; to GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1;
  11. I gave you my beans because you're obviously malnourished and need to eat something. I believe you're delusional. Jesus christ, these suggestions. /facepalm
  12. So basically this is another thread requesting a game mechanic for something the player may already be feeling. OK As my kill counter goes up, survival time increases, and I find better loot, my paranoia level goes up. When I spawn, I go to a city and loot mediocre crap. If I die, oh well. But as soon as I get a bit of gear my attitude toward the game completely changes, survival means something. As time goes on and I accumulate more gear and kills, I become much more paranoid. I imagine this is true for most players - you don't want to lose your time investment and have to start from square one. That either eventually puts you entirely out of the action because you don't want to lose what you have, or you slip up and take a risk and pay for it. Then you're on the coast again. I really don't understand why people want to make this game limiting as is. Now I'm really confused over why in the world you would want to simulate a human emotion that already exists in the player.
  13. Seems like you are talking more about class types and less about progression. No classes needed IMO.
  14. I encountered my first d/cer today at Stary. I heard a shot, went to investigate, missed my shot and he ran around a tent. I go to the other side and he's gone. It took me 5 minutes of running around the tents and hills to realize that he d/ced :(
  15. I completely support the game telling you that you're a pistol master because you have 3k infected headshots and 30 murders with your revolver, but to give any sort of edge, even .10% over a stock character, would break this game.
  16. Technically, there is no death penalty. Gear is just a quick run away. Yeah, you lose weapons, nourishment and medical supplies when you die, but that (I hope) is not the reason you're playing. See that, right there, is why this game should remain as flexible as possible. You might play to farm gear and kill zombies. Player X finds joy in sniping noobs in Cherno and Electro. Player Y wants to avoid everybody and survive for a month. Personally, I like playing with a group of friends and searching out other groups of players to engage in combat in the zombie apocalypse setting. There is not one playstyle and there is no set framework in this game due to it's sandbox nature, and that makes feature addition difficult. In a game without a set goal, the more basic and stripped down, the better.
  17. The only thing necessary for player retention is easily accessible meta game resources and a decent community. Maybe some in game group functionality. If you play solo you will either love the game or hate it. Almost anyone can find a reason to waste time in game with a regular group though.
  18. Temp definitely drops while running. Dropped down to 28 while running to stary and looting deer stands with a friend the other day.
  19. I appreciate how much time you put into this post, but I couldn't read past the section on skills, namely "the more you use something, the better you get at it (with diminishing returns and caps to point allocation so you don't max every skill in the game)." The game is fine as is in this respect. The more you play and become familiar with the weapons, the better you get with them. Honestly, the only thing that needs to improve is how buggy communication between the client and the server is.

    Shotgun or Lee Enfield???

I got shot by a guy toting a double barrel shotgun yesterday. Broke my legs and brought me down to 4500 blood. I aimed my lee enfield, got the headshot on the guy who shot me, bandaged up and took some morphine. My vote is for the enfield.

    Is streamsniping considered cheating?

But why make shoot of the fish?
  22. Huuwap

What is it you want from Dayz?

I want an authentic zombie simulation. For the most part I'm happy with it, but being able completely traverse 225 square km at a full-on run without stopping or slowing bothers me, as well as doors being completely ineffective against AI and buildings not being enterable.

    Is streamsniping considered cheating?

People streaming their game want some sort of fame and/or pay for doing something they like doing. A comment earlier mentioned ghosting, which would be akin to screen-watching in a LAN situation, and was always an issue with competitive games that supported spectating. DayZ is not a competitive game, it's a survival sim. Spectating is not a supported function of the game. People need to go out of their way to stream their gameplay, and as a result they make a spectate function available when normally it would not be. I don't support stream sniping. I don't stream snipe. However, it is the caster's fault and not the sniper's fault. TBH, I doubt stream sniping is as big of a deal as streamers would have people believe. When you're playing on a populated server, you will be shot at, and just because you have a moderately successful stream it doesn't mean your killer was watching your stream to find your position.
  24. - Add a "wave" animation with no delay. Sure, I'm down with that. - Make Zeds harder to take down solo. Sure, I'm down with that. - REDUCE, not REMOVE high-powered weapon counts. CZ 550 will still be there for all your sniping needs. This is as simple as removing military loot from Deerstands. Consider the setting and obvious military presence. Arms of all types would be scattered in a real world situation, provided military occupancy happened and the infection spread. - Adding further player customization to allow for unique identification. Sure, I'm down with that. - Player nametags at close range for further identification. Remove nametags completely. Require communication for identification ;). As for encouraging friendly play by strangers...you really can't trust anyone. Find a group and play with them consistently. If this happened in the real world, you bet your ass I wouldn't invite strangers to my table.
  25. Overlay works for me by simply creating a steam shortcut to Six Launcher and starting the launcher from the steam shortcut.
