  1. Bringing it back to page 1.
  2. I'm fairly certain that I'm a bandit. I'm probably one of the guys who gives bandits a bad name to be quite honest. The main reason I'm posting this is because of something that happened/was mentioned in my group yesterday. We were in Elektro, starting new after we all died at some point and scavenging some items...plus, I dig the large cities for pvp opportunities. I had already killed a guy with an axe while he frantically tried to kill me with his Remington 870 on the firehouse stairs. One of my friends has a CZ 550 and he says "I'm going to head to the hills by the coast and see if there are any noobs I can pick off." My other friend and I go to the supermarket. I have a Lee Enfield at this point and he has an AKM that I gave him (I'll keep the Enfield over almost any gun anytime). He yells "Shit, a fucking guy in here." so I instantly go into hunt mode. As I head to the front of the store from the back my friend says "Don't kill him, he only has a hatchet." but a hatchet is plenty for me to validate killing somebody in this game, so I shoot him in the head and that threat is gone. My two buddies jumped on my ass. Told me I shouldn't have killed that nub, that I was so mean and I was the problem with this game, to which I replied "Aren't you the asshole talking about sniping spawn-ins from a hill by the coast?" He said "Well, that's different." And that is what this post is about. Where do you draw the line for a kill? I get killed all the time when I'm not armed, and I don't blame the people who kill me generally because I would do the same thing. Who knows what this person is going to do when they grab a gun?
  3. Shameless bump - I want to make sure folks having a hard time getting this going are helped.

Where do you draw the line?

I'd rather go hunt game, unless the game is infected too.
  5. You're welcome and I hope it helps a bunch of folks =).

    Playing Dayz from Steam

Give this a shot, I just wrote it up. http://huuwap.me/discovery/?page_id=59

Where do you draw the line?

Not to go off topic here, but depending on the nature of the infection I'd expect most people would avoid eating other people to avoid becoming infected.

Where do you draw the line?

Awesome. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't mixed up in that =).

    Sins of a hacking gamer...

On the PS2 and XBOX for both GTA3 and Vice City, yes. Not sure on the computer versions of the games.

Where do you draw the line?

Was that in my direction Merciless? I'm not sure I follow you.

BS - Once a game is saved after using cheats the game physically removes content and you cannot get 100% completion.

Where do you draw the line?

Last night I run into the grocery store, I saw an Enfield on the ground. I only have a 1911, would like to have a rifle you know? Run in, pick it up, and as I'm looting I notice movement in my peripheral. As soon as pickup is done I face the movement as one player proceeds to unload an entire clip of AK-74 at me, and his friend at the back of the store shoots his Enfield. I walked into a trap. Luckily, they're both terrible shots. Enfield guys runs to the back of the store as I unload a full clip of 1911 into his buddy, landing a headshot. I have time to reload as he's running back into the main section of the shop, and I can see him trying to train the Enfield on me. Wait for the shot (which misses of course, he couldn't shoot for shit), bring up the iron sights and get another headshot with my 1911. I'm starting to think the main problem with this game, and the reason why people whine so much about PVP, is that they're just terrible at first person shooters. This situation is a perfect illustration of that. They have the ambush set, two rifles, one of which fully auto and the other a one hit kill, and they let me go through an entire loot animation, empty a mag, reload, empty and reload again without killing me. My suggestion to these players is to stop camping grocery stores and go find something to do that doesn't involve combat.
  13. Why TLDR such a short post? Get some friends, find a mumble server, play together. I really don't understand why that concept is so hard. Arma 2 in game communication is terrible as-is, it's not like you can circumvent the necessity of some external VOIP server, so just accept that you can't trust strangers and keep the folks in the mumble/teamspeak/ventrilo server with you close. /end thread

Where do you draw the line?

So I can hunt players even if I don't need loot and be OK in your eyes as long as I'm not sniping? I usually get right in the thick of it.

Where do you draw the line?

Generally I see it this way. I can sit in the forest with my backpack full of food and water, lighting fires and surviving for days...and have absolutely zero fun doing it. Or I can hang out in populated areas and engage in combat with other players. I generally end up doing the latter. I get bored when PVP is absent.

    Sins of a hacking gamer...

I completed GTA 3 and Vice City 100%. Can't do that with cheats. Anyway, good luck to you I guess.

    Maps are weird...

If you have one dot, it's you. If there are multiple blue dots, they're other identified survivors. If it's orange and labeled "Man", it can either be a zombie or an unidentified survivor.
  19. That is pretty much exactly what I was trying to say. Most of us kill out of perceived necessity, and I'd mostly blame in-game communication options over anything else. Now if voice worked well (I can't hear half of what is said to me) this may be a non-issue, but as it is the only armed players I don't KoS are in the mumble channel with me.
  20. I pretty much agree with you, but it's the first new computer the guy has been able to buy in years, what with wife and kids and stuff...he was using hand-me-downs before and he saved $200 by sticking with the Intel graphics. He says all of his games are playable though at 40+, and that's something he hasn't ever really had, lol. I think he has some hand-me-down PCI-E card in now though...don't know what the specs are, but he says he's playing smoother now. FWIW, it was kind of choppy, but a newer processor (last two years) with a two or three year old mid-range GPU should be able to run this game like a champ at low settings. BTW, in case you care, at home I run an i5-2500k stock with an HD 6870, also stock. I keep antialiasing and anisotropic filtering off because I honestly can't see a difference, turn post processing off because of the terrible motion blur and keep everything else in the middle, because again, I can't see a difference. Shadows and HDR on highest, everything else on high and I keep pretty consistent high FPS.
  21. You might be surprised. Technology has come a long way and the specs on Intel HD Graphics 4000 is pretty impressive for what it is. At low/med the game is still mostly relying on the CPU anyway. He gets playable frames, and that's all that matters. BTW, I was wrong on the processor. He has an i7-3770k and is at mostly low settings with some cranked up a bit. This is his stream - http://www.livestream.com/frags
  22. I can run the game just fine at work on a 4 year old processor (Q8400) and an HD 4650. To look pretty, it requires a beast comp, but I have a friend who runs it with an i5-2500k with the on-chip GPU and he doesn't even have to touch low settings. ARMA 2 Minimum System Requirements Processor: Dual Core CPU for Intel or AMD Memory/RAM: 1 GB Video Card: Nvidia Geforce 7800 / ATI Radeon 1800 or faster with Shader Model 3 and 256 MB VRAM Hard Disk Space: 10 GB Operating System: Windows XP or Windows Vista Anyway, I agree, everyone needs downtime. If you legitimately can't afford it, I hope someone gifts you a copy. That said, you will feel better about it (I hope) if you go out and do something extra for a bit of spending money to purchase the game on your own.
  23. You mean like legal ramifications as a result of actions in developed countries? Yeah, there's no legal system here, and it's entirely possible that one would not feel guilt or go psychotic over what one saw as necessary murders. The consequence for killing someone may well be getting killed by one of his nearby buddies, or you may completely get away with it to be killed by somebody you never even see two days later. It is a lawless state and you can't hard-code emotions that are not the same for everybody.
  24. And freaking out bandits based on a percentage pulled from number of kills is not a punishment for killing? Do you even pay attention to what you're saying?
  25. I've been killed several times in the last 48 hours and I support this message.
