I have Had Enough Of This
THEDirtySanchez replied to AllMightyKnox's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
^ this ^ I and a group of friends are desperately looking for a private hive, passworded server to join so we can enjoy DayZ again. I'm flirting with the idea of building my own but not sure I have the resources. -

I disagree, let us password protect our servers. -
Hackers, and the state of the standalone game?
THEDirtySanchez replied to KetchupOnTheDog's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Not exactly. If someone wants to cheat to get better gear because they are too lazy or have no interest to "play" the game/mod, that's one thing. To ruin the experience for everyone else by doing a kill all, that's not cheating, that's just someone being an ass. That would be like going over and kicking over a chess board after 2 guys have spent hours getting into the meat of the game. You would never do that though because you would get your ass kicked. The internet provides you protection and it's abused. It's just a dick move, nothing else. Cheat if you have to, just leave me out of it. -
Cant be bothered to play with the state of what used to be a good game.

I'm also interested. I and several friends are looking for a better experience without hackers and/or servers full of over powered gear. If recruiting, PM please. -

The fact that they handcuff the paying server admins so they can't combat hackers is even more disturbing to me -
Hackers, and the state of the standalone game?
THEDirtySanchez replied to KetchupOnTheDog's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The level of blantant hacking going on is ruining the playability and spirit of the mod for sure, not sure how anyone could argue that. Based on what I've seen it doesn't appear it will get any better and hackers have no fear of BE being able to stop and/or ban them for it. That being the case, until the DayZ team allows for private hives and/or at least gives paying server admins the ability to privatize their servers to trusted users, there is no hope the mod will be playable until the standalone arrives on shelves. It's an amazing game with amazing amount of potential, it's a shame that there is a growing percentage of hackers out there that feel the need to ruin it for the bulk of us AND there is nothing admin's are "allowed" to do about it. That last part may be the most disturbing. flame on -
OK, this may be a dumb question, but I don't know... How do you connect to a server on a private hive? I'm assuming it wouldn't be listed in DayZCommander or SixLauncher. I'd also like to learn more about how you would setup your own private hive. I currently have a DayZ server but due to the high number of hacks, I'm convinced it's wasted $$ since we can't "play" the game without losing everything daily due to hacks. Before throwing in the towel and moving on, I'm trying to learn about creative ways to make a server more private first. Thanks in advance.

I was lucky enough to stumble upon 2 last night in the same server....? The first was picked over and had nothing, the second had an FN FAL which I grabbed (probably shouldn't have, I don't know). It was dark so I can't be sure if the heli site was always way out ahead of me, but it seemed almost like it spawned out of nowhere. At night you can identify it by the glowing machine gun on the side of the heli. As I was running through a field all of the sudden a bright light appeared ahead of me and that's what it was. According to the database files here -> www.dayzdb.com, the camo clothes and ghillie suites are no longer in the loot tables. :( I've been looking and hoping to find one for weeks and now I know why. So I guess the guys who have them already have a huge advantage as no one else can get them now.

I found one by accident once and didn't know it was a gold mine. I saw only an FAL but decided it wasn't worth it. I didn't know to look around the wreckage and haven't found another one since now that I know more. Are they truely random or are they in one of several potential spots? Fields only?

Here is my "Peaceful" alternative to KOS
THEDirtySanchez replied to THEDirtySanchez's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'd be happy with this suggestion. This also wouldn't be nearly as cumbersome as my idea with the "magic" bullet. To accompany this, and I think this was suggested elsewhere on the forum, include another hot button animation of surrender, such as putting hands up and/or dropping your weapon. -
Here is my "Peaceful" alternative to KOS
THEDirtySanchez replied to THEDirtySanchez's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
In what ways? As long as the range associated with it was short, I don't see it being too big of a deal but I may not be thinking outside the box here. If you could "freeze" someone over 300 meters away with a pistol, yeah that would suck. Freezing someone in order to walk up and shoot them? If they wanted to shoot them, they could have just done that to begin with. Maybe another abuse would be to freeze someone with a gun, then go up and cut them up silently with your hatchet, but that could happen for real, so.... -
Here is my idea to alleviate what otherwise would be a normal peaceful person from killing on sight in order to be "on the safe" side. It could also be used by Bandits to do what bandits do and that would be rob at gunpoint. A bandit shouldn't have to be a murderer too, unless they want to. This idea does not penalize the bandit or the psychotic murderers in the game that want to kill for fun. Your choices are still your own. What the idea does do is offer another option for all to choose to use or not use. Here goes. Simply, the idea is to be able to issue a "freeze" command to someone else, kind of like how a cop tells a bad guy to freeze when he puts his gun on him... What would happen is that the "victim" (being told to freeze), would "freeze" and get a prompt asking if they wanted to willingly freeze or not. If they willingly accept the command, they drop all of their inventory (including bag) on the ground and pass out for 3 or so minutes. The one who issued the freeze then could either retreat without looting, loot, kill, or do whatever they want before the other one wakes up.... or doesn't. How? -- Well, one wouldn't be able to successfully tell someone to freeze unless they had a weapon. So I'm suggesting that with all guns, there could be a new unlimited ammo type that comes with it which basically acts as a "freeze" bullet. Making it silenced for that type of bullet may be a problem, not sure... The reason for the prompt to the "victim" on whether or not they accepted the freeze, is that just because one has a gun doesn't mean they are a threat with live ammo, so it would give the one being told to freeze a choice on if they wanted to risk running, fighting, or being shot. Would you risk calling a bluff? Maybe. I think it's a fairly simple approach that doesn't penalize or take choices out of the players hands. It simply adds a new choice and would offer an alternative to KOS or Kill for loot. Thoughts?

Slight law system proposal: AI Survivor murder chance of 'witnesses' discuss
THEDirtySanchez replied to Ving (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
My suggestion to anyone who will listen is less about "punishing" bandits, but more about what you mentioned earlier in the post - "to peacefully engage one another". That, I think, is the key to solving some of the problem. I break it down like this. There are 3 categories of killers, bandit who kills with purpose (to loot, clear threat, ultimately gain something). Second, there is the basic dick that kills for no apparent reason, just because they can. I wish I had an idea for limiting that, but I don't. Last, there is the Kill on Site friendlies that shoot first due to the new nature of the game. If there were ways to engage peacefully, that could eliminate at least one of the problems. My idea; For a lack of a better term, basically have an ability to tell someone to freeze. If you can successfully hit someone with a freeze, they fall unconciouse for X minutes and drop all of their inventory. This would allow the attacker time to do what they want, they could retreat, loot, or even still decide to kill. It's basically allowing one to rob at gun point. That reminds me, the freeze option would have to come with a gun in order to have something to threaten the other with. If I'm unarmed, the guy with the gun isn't going to freeze. To take it a step further, maybe the "victim" here has a prompt pull up first before falling unconcious, asking them if they want to "freeze" or risk it. Who knows, the other guy could be bluffing with no bullets... lol. I think that would be awesome and would add to the game. I'm sure the badit purist will find a way to say this is punishment too...? -
Well, I like them.

Reward for knocking out a player.
THEDirtySanchez replied to interceptor's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
More or less the same as what I was hoping to suggest. I was thinking more like a freeze option. No not like an ice gun, but more like a "Hey asshole, freeze and drop all your shit as I happen to have a gun pointed at your head" kind of freeze. The result could be a known 2 to 3 minute (or some other time frame) unconscious timer for the victim and automagically all his inventory, including bag, would "drop" to the ground. Then the other guy can loot, run, kill, or any combination they so choose. Hopefully that would help cut down on KOS encounters when one freindly stumbles upon another. It could also be used by bandits to be bandits in the more traditional sense of the word. ban·dit (bndt) n. 1. A robber, especially one who robs at gunpoint. 2. An outlaw; a gangster. 3. One who cheats or exploits others.
