Gun nerf made the game more challenging
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to Helsing's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Damn it! I leave for a week and now the guns have been nerfed? So we're all wearing top of the range body amour now? Making logging out in combat even easier than it was before? "Oh, I've been shot." "Shit, he hit me again. Where is he?" "Nope can't... damn it stop shooting me!" "Heh, I've still got 7000 blood... ffs hit again!" "Right, I'm logging out before a 5th Lee Enfield round hits me." I am not happy. -
Hotfix Build 1.7.2.4 Rolling Update
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Oh God, what has he done to the guns? I haven't played for a week but there's posts on the General Discussion board about guns being nerfed, though there's nothing in the patch notes. Can someone confirm this, have the guns been nerfed? Oh Lord, what has he done? -
What is rocket doing about dc'ing players
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to beanymcbeany's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This is a useless idea and if implemented will fix little other than the server hopping, which is not the same thing as dc-ing during combat. If the game punishes you for dc-ing too often in a short space of time, what prevents people from simply being careful about their alt-F4s? Player versus player combat is infrequent in DayZ, if it's been 1 hour since your last disconnect and someone shoots at you, what's stopping you from using alt-F4? Once you log on again, you can just wait for another 30 mins or 1 hour before using it again! We need timers, Rocket. Goddamn log-off timers! And penalties of continued character persistence on the server for those who alt-F4! -
As a bandit, the new patch hasn't really changed my method of operation. I still find that many of my favourite Cherno buildings protect me from zombies. Providing I go prone after shooting and don't fire too often in succession, the Z seem to have difficulty locating me, and, when they do, they take so long to get to me that I usually have ample time to switch to my side arm and dispatch them, one at a time, in a corridor. Also, when then Z lose line of sight, or can no longer hear my after I've taken a shot, they often stand around the building where they last saw or heard me, effectively protecting me from other players who might try to enter. Quite useful.

Why do you murder?
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to frankiebeans's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Then why dont you play an actual PvP oriented game? Like... CoD/AvP/all other FPS-shooters. Like me, I suppose he finds it far more exciting to engage in combat in a game where there's so much to lose. There's nothing to lose on CoD, Counterstrike et al - you just respawn and are back in combat in less than a minute. Day Z makes hunting your prey so much more exciting. It can take hours to find someone to kill, but, when you do, the rush from that one kill far surpasses 100 kills on Battlefield or Counterstrike. In short, each kill in Day Z has more 'meaning'. There can be hours of survival, positioning and avoiding zombies behind it. -
Why do you murder?
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to frankiebeans's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I simply enjoy hunting people - including (perhaps especially) other bandits*. I don't do it to grief, I just enjoy the thrill of hunting and killing other players. That's it. There's no malice in it. *Why especially other bandits? Because other bandits are predators and are better game. Killing a tough adversary, a fellow predator, is more satisfying than killing a harmless survivor who has just spawned. The kill is riskier, so it has more value to me. -
Looking for a server with working public chat!
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to Destory's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Yes, this annoys me too. I really don't think removing side-chat adds anything much to the game, and though I accept that some people may feel differently, I do wish the servers with side-chat enabled stated this on their server description! It seems odd to me that most servers state whether they have 3rd person mode on, labels on and crosshairs on, but nobody seems to care about side-chat! It must just be me, but I care more about side-chat than I do about crosshairs or 3rd person. Sigh. -
Shooting everything you see isn't realistic...
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to MperorM's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
But it's not real-life and it will never will be. There's always going to be people playing this game for a variety of (conflicting) reasons. I love the survival aspect of the game and its zombie apoc setting, but you can never change the fact, that for me, the greatest rush comes from combat with other players. With so much to lose in each engagement, the exhilaration when you kill is intense. Don't bother asking me to go play another game - there are none, except for perhaps Eve Online, that come close to delivering that feeling. -
Bodies disappear after kill
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to thompsonmike's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yes, I've been wondering about this too. Was the despawn time for bodies changed recently? I find bodies disappear after about 5-10 minutes - they used to stay for much much longer. -
Military weapons are useless
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to MEUQSACO's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That's what I love about this game/mod. A player can be almost as deadly with the weapons they'll find in a barn 5 minutes from the beach, as someone who has been alive for weeks and hoarding military weapons! I've never bothered searching for the military weapons, but I've used some from survivors I've killed, and I was always left a little disappointed. DMR, for example, rarely seems to kill people in one shot. The lovely Lee Enfield, on the other hand, rarely fails! All the 5.56 mm weapons are useless to me as they require far too many bullets to kill people - giving players ample time to disconnect! I'm very happy with the Enfield and the CZ550. -
37 murders and counting..

Good shooting, Yosdiel. -
37 murders and counting..
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to Yosdiel's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm only at 17 kills. My total would be 22 but I've had 5 diconnectors. :( I also do not generally kill unarmed players. -
In Cherno right now and the city seems to be ablaze, with random explosions going off. Can anyone tell me what the hell is happening? Hackers I guess, yes?
-
Are there any European servers that have side-chat enabled? I played on one last week that did, but never noted the name of the server. I find it a little dull without side chat too.

Who here loves killing.
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to davidcastle's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yes, for me the thrill of the game is in hunting other players. I enjoy murder - what can I say? -
No Side Chat turned me into a Bandit and game less fun
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to big_t's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I love side chat and wish that servers would state whether or not it's enabled in the information they give about third person cam and labels. -
Yep, I think 'regen' is covered by blood going up when you eat. Anything more than that is making things too easy.

His name was unknown, he died from unknown
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to Horr1d's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yes, I've been wondering when this feature would be implemented! As it is, information about dead players' equipment is being stored in the database for the purpose of looting, so adding extra data for time and circumstances of death shouldn't be too difficult, I would have thought. -
Yet another idea for 'Solving PVP'
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to Never's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This should be in the 'Suggestions' forum, not 'General Discussion'. And there is no PvP problem to be solved. -
Hotfix Build 1.7.1.4 Rolling Update (was 1.7.1.3)
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I'm really enjoying the new update, Rocket. Sneaking past the Z isn't too difficult, but not too easy either - just right, I'd say. Spawning without a weapon is fine, they're still quite common. I like the new loot spawns: better variety, but some of the essentials like food and drink are rare making survival a little tougher. I am having problems with my frame rate, though, and I am hearing many buzzing flies but seeing very few corpses. In conclusion, I'm very happy with the new update. Usually I'm out hunting players, but this patch has made just surviving more difficult - I love this! -
From an Eve-Online Player...
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to Torothin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I was wondering how many Eve players played Day Z! There's a definite similarity in each game's design philosophy. -
No gun at the start of the game ?

No gun at the start of the game ?
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to xchrispyyx's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well, Rocket, being the sadist that he is, has removed the starter weapon from survivors. And there's also a loot spawn bug in the latest patch, meaning you won't be able to find any food. The bug should be fixed in hotfix tonight, apparently. You chose the worst possible day to start playing! As for the error message, I think I get that, but it doesn't affect anything in the game. -
Frustrations as a new player in Day Z 1.7.1.1
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to Arcadies's topic in New Player Discussion
Having read the OP's diatribe, I have learned that he really doesn't like Call of Duty players, that Call of Duty has ruined the forum and possibly this mod, and that Call of Duty may be responsible for cancer, AIDS and the current economic crisis. I have to say this habit people have of avoiding reasoned argument, invoking Call of Duty and then insinuating that everyone who disagrees with their position is a proponent of said game, is really, really tiresome. It's sort of like a new Godwin's Law among online shooters. In fact, I declare a new fallacy: Reductio ad Call of Duty! Reductio ad Call of Duty, also argumentum ad Call of Duty, (Latin for "reduction to" and "argument to" ) is an ad hominem or ad misericordiam argument whereby an opponent's view is compared to a view that would be held by a fan of the game Call of Duty. It is a fallacy of irrelevance, in which a conclusion is suggested based solely on something's or someone's origin rather than its current meaning. The suggested logic is one of guilt by association. -
Food and drinks impossible to find since 1.7.1.1
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to Jorden's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
As things currently are, the game is unplayable as a newly spawned character. With no beans spawning, you have to hunt; hunting and preparing your food requires a knife, matches, an axe and a gun - and, of course, an animal to eat. I imagine it's close to impossible to find all that before you perish to hunger.
