Get ArmA 2 CO for DayZ or wait for ArmA 3?
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to egorgeg's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The mod is being ravaged by cheaters. I would not recommend you part with any money while the game is in the sorry state that it is. -
There's hackers on almost every server, but this isn't where you report individual incidents. There's another board for that.

Sudden influx of hackers?
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to Tempacco's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Have you not noticed that the mod has been destroyed by 'hackers'? I hope you did not buy Arma 2 recently because, in its current state, the mod is more or less unplayable. Edit: First time in a month? You're a lucky man! You should be pleased that they left you alone for so long. -
Now 1 Million!!!!! + Unique Players!!!
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to Irenicus (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I feel that though this is a great moment for Rocket and a testament to his talent and vision, it really isn't advisable for people who don't already own Arma 2 to be buying it to play DayZ. The cheaters have more-or-less ruined the game, making it a poor experience for any new player. I would not recommend anybody buy Arma to play DayZ in the current state. -
So How Many Have Stoped Playing DayZ?
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to LumberBack's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well, I've quit until the cheating has subsided, but I still hang around the forums. I suppose I'm naively hoping that something is going to happen to reduce the rampant cheating that is making the game unplayable. This, however, seems unlikely, so I'll probably leave and then return once the stand-alone is released. -
I tried to find a hacker
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to Swineflew's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The quotes I gave didn't come from the site Mutagen linked to, they came from others. There's lots of these sites, sadly. -
I tried to find a hacker
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to Swineflew's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Ha, yes, I've been checking their forums to! Some samples responses to the update from the script kiddies - check out these sweet tears! "Yup just wasted another $10 bucks, never trusting this site again." "Agreed. Out another 10$." "used it a couple of times, on non-populated servers, joined one more (3rd or so) global ban 665, shame really because a hacker brought me to doing this o well my risk. your outta $10 im outta £15 thats like $22" "*cough cough* brazilian piece of shit *cough cough*" "So ur telling me that I spent 20€ for nothing ?" THE TEARS, OH GOD THEY ARE WONDERFUL! -
Hackers spawning bot "survivors"
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to --_Archangel_--'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yes, the latest hacks can spawn 'bodyguards'. Another day, another hack, another reason not to play the game. Sigh. -
Hacking, Hacking, Hacking, Hacking, Hacking...
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to Gumpnstein's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I understand your frustration, gumpnstein. It feels like we're on a sinking ship, yet people are still complaining about the music in the elevator, the bubbles in the champagne or the decor in the bar. The thing that really matters right now is the hackers - yet people persist in complaining about bandits, tent bugs, graphical glitches, threat of WarZ and overpowered sniper weapons. -
*DSYNC: An ironic, post-modern deconstruction of the boy band paradigm, with catchy tunes about homoeroticism, gender subversion and hypermasculinity. You could be onto something there...

so i "played" last night with some friends...
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to killroth's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yep, hackers everywhere. And not a word from the devs. In the mean time, as dcskill said, go to low population servers. -
A big THANKYOU to all hackers and skill-deprived cheaters.
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to Morbotron's topic in New Player Discussion
You realize that as soon as they get banned they only have to buy a new CD key, then wait a short while until a new undetectable hack is released? All we can do is hope that they get tired of this cycle. I'm not filled with confidence. -
What do you guys think will happen when we hit 1M?
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to lllewqer's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
A hacker induced DayZ apocalypse. -
[Video] How did these guys not die?
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
With the state the game is in, isn't it obvious? It's difficult to play for more than half and hour without encountering a hacker. -
Oh, does it bother you that the forum is full of posts about hacking? It doesn't bother me. This is the biggest problem DayZ is facing, and nothing else really matters at the moment. Can you honestly say that there is anything more important to discuss? Anything more worthy of the developers' attention?

Hacker report - UK 172
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to IMF2000 (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Heh, nice catch IMF2000. Hopefully a global ban will follow. -
I think I'm going to do the same. The hacking is worse than it ever has been, so I'm considering taking a break from the game. I'm keeping an eye on the cheater's website (I don't think I should give out the name here, though I think everyone knows the one I'm speaking of) to see when the next wave of bans comes into effect, then I'll start playing again. Of course, they'll adapt, release new cheats, and we'll be back to where we are today...

Dayz Current State is Game Over
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to Gumpnstein's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Remove the tents from the game. I'm serious, remove tents and watch as high end loot becomes rarer. -
Yeah, well, they've got company: about 90% of players Alt-F4 if the wind so much as changes direction.
-
no need to go against alt f4 :-)
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to Nariquo (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Idiots. Your cowardly abuse of alt-F4 is undermining the principles the game was built on. A survivor's life is supposed to be always hanging by a thread - hence the explicit advertising of the low life expectancy of players and the continued inclusion of enemies, weapons and game mechanics that make survival very difficult. Your use alt-F4 is tantamount to cheating. It allows you to stop things that were designed to kill you from killing you. Rocket designed the mod to punish even small mistakes; with Alt-F4 you're undermining the experience and the nature of the game. Aggro too many zombies? Alt-F4. Wander into a building without first observing it, then find other players? Alt-F4. Shoot at a player, miss, and realize he and his buddies have spotted you? Alt-F4. Caught in a storm with no shelter in sight and a dropping body temp? Alt-F4. Run through a field without checking the treeline for snipers, then get shot? Alt-F4. To me, you're little better than the script kiddies spawning weapons and teleporting around the map. You're scum. -
Re-implement side chat?
Zarathustra (DayZ) replied to Anton17's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yes, side chat probably did reduce pvp. Though I don't have any evidence of this, others might recognize the following anecdote from their own Day Z experience: I am a bandit, and have been since I started playing in May. I admit that I did often use side chat to hunt survivors. Occasionally, though, while listening to people's banter as I made my way to intercept and kill them, I found myself becoming fond of my intended prey - and increasingly reluctant to do them harm! One evening a couple of fellows were chatting in Elektro, and, being near the dam, I decided to head down and see if I could bag myself two fresh kills. I don't remember anything about what they spoke of, but I remember, after following their conversation for some time, feeling a sense of warm familiarity. As I approached Elektro from the north, they came under fire from another bandit on the hillside opposite the power station. Someone was going to get them before me! I wasn't far away, so it didn't take me long to home in on the sporadic DMR fire. The shooter was lying prone, peering through his binoculars, when I shot a single Enfield round into his back. I spent a minute thinking about what to do next, and decided that I wasn't going to kill the pair in the station beneath. I had been listening to them chatting for almost an hour and had come to rather like them; besides, I had just saved their lives. On side chat, I told the guys that their sniper was dead and, minus the DMR, his loot was now theirs. I turned and headed back north.
