  1. My biggest concern currently is that unalerted zombies have the tendency to form on you in large packs. For example I log off on a roof and come back the next day, I log in and see the zombie count rise, I can prone and go ark make a cup of tea and find a large riot is forming surrounding the building but they are in a passive state still. There is no way I can sneak out and the only way of explaining that is the zombies form herds. Similarly me and my friend went to loot an empty barn, the nearest zombies were out in the field by the time we were finished 4 zombies had decided to crouch in the barn and none of them responded to empty tins or flares being thrown.... as if the AI knows we are there and gets within range and, remains passive until we trigger them

Admin Abuse US35 banned for ghosting

Are the logs similar to eve online? They always show nothing?

    Deer stand

Is it odd my character has never went below 42/41 ever ? Yet I can sit next to my mate in an open field in the rain and he will drop but mine does nothing?
  4. Its better to play veteran when you are learning because there are less features helping people 'pvp'. The cross hair is pretty useless in my eyes but being on a server with the magic range finder and identifying tags is lame you can spot someone in a gillie suit from 500m away through dense forest by mistake. For example my first visit at the nwa I had identified a few targets within moments purely by the map tagging 'man' and the cross hair showing 'survivor'. Tldr veteran makes it harder for people to kill you but not harder to dodge zombies, it sounds counter intuitive but go for it seriously

    Realism...

Lets be honest if you look there are a lot more zombies than humans and therefore its no surprise there are more npc deaths but when non friendly humans encounter it usually ends with a log out or a murder. I've even starte,d killing other people and not even for their loot but to protect myself as if I'm spotted I'm more likely killed so... yeh the last 3 encounters I have had resulted in me killing the other player, I feel like 'deathmatch' might be strong label at themoment because I'm not actively hunting humans but they're dead if I meet them. Unless there is a feature to damp
  6. Saber tooth z77, [email protected], 7970 lightning and 16g of Sammy green... an overkill really I don't monitor fps but with everything maxed out I've never experienced any jumping, even my 965 and 6850 can run arma2.

Vaulting animation Day Z could use

Although I don't think it's worth adding and the current step over is fine. Your reasoning would be nice to hear rather than "that's just dumb". Without a reason for you thinking it's dumb it's a pointless post. I think the animation is fine but the fact my character will either fail to step over or step over and then end up half inside that object where his legs break and massive blood loss is kind of silly. When is 1.7.2 coming out?

Sounds like someone is going to be mad if there is a gear reset. Personally I hope there is, it would also help bug testing, more weapons being used, more looting etc, it wouldn't make sense not to reset, its alpha we should be testing throughout the game not just pvp at nwa or cherno

Logging out to avoid a serverhopper.

Log out but go onto a totally different server and continue your business Apart from lag, lag, desync, shitty admin, abusive players, hackers, strollers with wire fencing... server downtime, If my regular server isn't online I tend to hop until I find a suitable one, although I'm usually in a forest when I do that, though rarely between the same servers though it has happened when I'm lured in by the ping G
  10. Way to blow it out of proportions, this is a game a game where meta gaming is encouraged which further blurs the lines between exploit and acceptable behaivour, the game has been developed with this single database and loot system since day one if they didn't see server hopping coming the I'd be shocked. If it was an exploit then it would be covered to prevent abuse. Though I don't do it myself I can see why in some cases some people would. I mean if you're going to be so over the top about this then is avoiding a night time server exploiting?

    Do's and Dont's of D/Cing

My friend and I were camping Stary Sober deciding whether to venture in (his first day on DayZ) so we ended up just sniping animals with our enfields and seeing what sort of shot we could get with pistols from range, was having a laugh. We went off for a cup of tea came back and shortly after we heard a rifle shot from near by but neither of us heard the bullet whizz so we assumed that it wasn't shot at us. We progressed whilst on the floor up the edge of the tree lie and them suddenly I see a survivor running across the open field about 300m away, my first shot puts him on the floor and I can see blood pissing out of him, my next 2 to 3 shots as far as I could tell completely missed him and by that time my friend had also acquired the target. I fire one more round and then he randomly disappears.... I instantly thought he's definitely DC'D, checked the server list in the map menu and saw that there were 3 people in the lobby who I previously saw playing when I got back from making my cuppa. We decided to run and peg it away from that area find another vantage point looking down on both where he disappeared and where we fired from. By the time we got to our new position I realised that in a flurry of madness I had actually ignored the fact I had seen an additional murder added to my tally. So did he flat our die and his body despawn because we were so far away? die and disappear due to a bug, or did he DC and the game told me I killed him anyway? Edit: To be honest I don't care if he did disconnect because I have a sneaky suspicion I broke one of his bones as he hit the floor the moment the shell hit him which means he couldn't of heard the shot by then. So if he had disconnected he will be stuck in the field unless he had morphine. I will openly admit I have logged out on occasions where I feel the status of the game in Alpha had reflected on the performance of the zombies, e.g zombies from 200m away have detected me whilst prone. One case I logged one evening after being away for the entire day and I logged on the roof of a building, I quickly found that over 15% of the total zombie population (225) were around me when 30 other players were on the server, and I was only in a village with 4/5 buildings... No way that was fair, I log off and come back on and they were definitely spawned for me. So basically I can see why people disconnect when the zombie distribution is terrible or the detection is unfair.... OR in the worst event you do everything properly with the best intent and then a zombie magically walks through a closed door/teleports etc... I think that is fair to DC because the zombie clearly isn't suppose to be able to do that and this is Alpha.. So I guess what I am suggesting is I don't want to see people disconnecting but I understand why they do PvE wise but PvP I think is a bit lame but doesn't bother me as long as they don't come up behind me by re logging. Perhaps integrate such a log off time when the game is in its closing beta stages with most problems solved. Ensuring the log off timer isn't absurd and if I have to answer the phone or quickly dash off I'm not going to have my character stand up for another 5 minutes.
  12. Can someone enlighten me on this... I have nearly 50 zombie kills and 2 murders to my name, my character is 3 days old (Though probably my 30th character). I've only really been playing a week but here it goes... My first murder was basically shooting my friend, he broke his leg I spent 2 hours raiding the NWA on my own and Stary Sober in the hope to find morphine in the end he said he wanted to respawn and I had picked up a new gun... he told me to burst fire him... put him down to like 500hp instantly and he bled to death, I met up with him about an hour later with all the equipment he had given to me prior to death. - Murder 1 My second one wasn't self defence on my part but more of protection for my friend, I'd been trying to get my friend into the game and I spoke to him over text messagesa bout his location so I positioned my self the night before in a vantage point over where he was and logged off. The next day I log onto my normal server and he logs on shortly after, I almost immediately see a survivor strafing through the tree lines outside Elektro next to the petrol station, my friend was literally at the petrol station, he takes cover over at the rail way and prones behind it. I get my binoculars out and try and gauge a distance and set my AKM to the right bullet drop, I want to take him down before he gets my friend who is carrying very critical medical supplies. He starts moving towards my friend crouching and I start thinking the worst... I quickly open fire and in my first shot he hits the floor, he tries to move behind a bush to cover and my friend on the rail way attempts to locate him for me, telling me he is slightly to the left blah blah, a few shots later and I get him in the head... my friend loots his corpse and surprisingly everything we were planning to go the guy dropped. - Murder 2 I have only 'murdered' 2 people, I would claim both of them were in good will, the first one I didn't really think about it being classed as murder we were laughing over the situation. The second was protecting my friend. TL:DR So basically... are there any ways of identifying a bandit as it stands, what constitutes a bandit? 2 kills? 5 kills? 1 kill per day?

So about zombies breaking your bones...

Just had a really frustrating time.... My friend and I met up in literally the middle of the map after parting two days ago, we replenished our ammo and supplies and headed up to as many deer stands as possible, we hit them and moved back to the centre of the map, we then moved up to story sober and started working our way through the barracks. We got to the very last one and as we were about to leave a zombie came out of nowhere (literally nowhere, there were none left around us) hit him, didn't do any damage but broke his leg... we killed the zombie and he crawled out. None of us had morphine and after a brief discussion I offered to run to the NWA in the hope I could find medical supplies whilst he waited. It took me about 15 minutes to get there and start looting and as I was going through I found a lot of ammo, a new back pack (I hadn't had one for 3 days) I found an M16 but decided against it... walked into the next door to find I had magically lost my M14 Rifle but I didn't have the M16 so I went back into the room picked up the M16 and all the ammo and left, hit all the barracks and after about 30 minutes I had looted everything of value and was heading back to my friend with bad news. When I got back I decided to loot the barracks again and no cigar for a morphine jab. We realise the only other way out of this is for me to head to a hospital and find him some morphine and come back, we decide it would be best if I pick all his tools, main and secondary weapon up and run back to meet him where he spawns. So we traded stuff (I took his 20 slot bag) and dropped my bag on the floor (first mistake... the bag disappeared + all the ammo and goodies I found at the airfield), I picked up the remaining goods and started the run back. I met him just outside Elektro and he had been to the hospital to gather supplies for us to avoid this mistake again, I meet him and as we go to goods I go to put his primary weapon and pistol into his back pack... it works, he has it equipped. Moments later I see the the AKM on the floor and then I see it in my hands... WTF? I didn't ask for that, I quickly scramble for my M16... nope, even all the ammo for that has gone SERIOUSLY WTF! I'm left with an AKM with only 2 clips as opposed to the 10 clips I got for my M16. It takes about 3 seconds to realise my entire trip to the airfield was completely fucking pointless, on two ocassions I lost a weapon due to some weird bug... of course this is Alpha and that sort of thing is going to happen but I raged so I hard I had to log off. I spent nearly 2 hours trying to get my friend to safety and or returning his goods but what happened was in reality I completely wasted it because he ends up with a Mak pistol and I end up with his AKM - all the stuff I found at the airfield. 2 - Gun dropping bugs 1 - bag disappearing = 2 hours completely wasted I raged... all due to a broken leg, he didn't even receive damage when his leg broke or started to bleed... it was weird. Edit: one of the most infuriating things about this event was that all my STANAG rounds were dropped on the floor, I could of used that on like 5 other guns but no... if the gun drops all the ammo drops, even if I didn't ask to drop the gun.

can you retreive your own body?

You can indeed, I got killed on my very first day shortly after finding a hatchet near pridoroky, I respawned and in my amazement I could immediately see the guy who just killed me. I waited for him to leave and I quickly went back to my corpse and removed the hatchet and spare bandage :P

    Glowing White Orbs?

Yes I was actually going to ask about as this, little circle spheres that appear on the edge of the screen. I find I get it on all servers but only after I have been logged on for like 10 minutes, I can walk towards a town and I can see white spheres appear at the edge of the screen, the larger they are the closer the zombies are and the opposite obviously. Can be unbelievably helpful when one is crouching behind a door not making a noise, though seems a bit unfair to have though, I'm not batman or anything. Edit: As soon as I have looked up "peripheral vision" on the tubes I found this Interesting, why does it seems to be on and off at times?
  18. I dropped an M249 for a lee yesterday as I love the accuracy and its take down ability at range. The composite bow for me isn't worth it I've found a lot of them and I would feel under gunned if I ever had to defend myself against another human

Hordes of zombies aggro-ing out of nowhere?

I've gone onto a roof from creeping through the town and only bypassing one or two zombies and yet when I've got onto the roof and I look around there are a lot more zombies and they're all converging on me, but they're not even running or looking alert, they're just stumbling but all paths converge on me. It's like they're psychic but they don't know it. I was once in solnichniy and got onto one of the industrial roofs at the north west of the town, out of the 189 zombies spawned on the server, I counted 27 were waiting for me spread along the rail tracks and surround the building I was on. I hadn't alerted a single one, I sat around for another 10 minutes to see if there were actually anyone else there and then I logged out, immediately logged back in and they were all gone... So they were spawned on me only, yet out of nowhere. Do the zombies have some natural group forming instinct?

    Bandits = Amazing... Stop Crying.

I started playing the game a few days back and it was a steep learning curve, the only 'problem' I found was that I was killed by more players than I was zombies on my first 2 days. Constantly getting killed within 2 minutes of spawning by someone with either a sniper rifle or an M249, I'd be crouching along and then bang my leg has gone and I've passed out. I mean I'm not even a tactical kill because I've got nothing of value and offer no threat. I wouldn't call that amazing, though I do appreciate the more "end game" content when you are fully equipped hunting humans down in the wilderness, but feasting on noobs is a bit sad.
  21. Give it time son, give it time... You will want it. I used it almost immediately, I've owned Arma 2 for nearly 2 years but never really played it so I don't know the map well at all anyway. First time I played I ended up running south west... I followed the rail line till it ended... and thought odd... so I ran north west from there and shortly after I was in what appeared to be the debug forest... so I killed myself and started playing with the map. The item spawn map to me helps weed out those useless houses, there are so many of them in towns that it gets annoying for those who don't recognise which buildings are enter able and which aren't. I used it initially to familiarise myself with those useful buildings. Now I have my own map and watch in game I can navigate pretty easily and I already know what appearance a building that might have stuff in looks like.

    Starvation

That or get a friend to bring food to you, I get frustrated with this feature. I like it being there but I don't like the way food sources work at the moment. On top of the fact that the frequency that my guy eats at is insane, I know he's burning a lot of calories by running around but on a day and night cycle tied to the server location in gives the impression things should be based on a 24 hour cycle, my guy needs to eat every 45 minutes... I tried to be all espionage and all that when going into to towns all I found was empty tins, every other town I was lucky to find a single piece of food, I consume that food and before I know it I'm having to look for food again and the cycle starts again. Which isn't too bad but the alternative sources of food... animals seems to be quite bugged at the moment. I found a boar the other day and two rams and neither of htem could be killed. I wasted 3 pistol clips (one on each) I probably should of stopped after the fisrt one but because I was desperate for food I needed to try it. The animal absorbed all the bullets and didn't move, it wasn't moving when I got to it but the "Tag" for "Goat" appeared etc, kind of annoying, I was lucky enough to find a crashed helicopter shortly after which had an M249 which I just burst into the town in a fit of rage and found frank and beans in the super market.
