Devblog update: Where is the Standalone?
Vertisce replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Yup...like I said. Fingers crossed. I was looking at that kitchen and thinking "I am so going to get trapped behind that table next to the window and eaten alive.". I would really love the character physics to stay but there needs to be a way to turn around in tight spaces. Even if that means the gun dropping down or pointing up as you turn around. Just gotta be able to turn around without having to back up like a Mack truck. Might need a mod with some sound effects for that. "beep...beep...beep...beep...". -
Devblog update: Where is the Standalone?
Vertisce replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I like the interiors of the buildings. It will be really nice to have houses populated like that. That does bring up one concern for me. It has always been an issue with ArmA and I pray to God that either ArmA 3 fixes this or the DayZ devs have found a way to fix it...turning with your gun drawn. Seriously...trying to turn around in a hallway, crowded room or on a staircase with your gun out is painful and pretty much impossible. Keeping my fingers crossed on this one. -
No to running full speed and shooting...no to jumping. This is not Call of Duty. It is a simulator...nobody runs while firing a gun in real life...not unless you are an idiot. Jumping ends up ruining most games and there really is no need for it. The rest of the ideas are fine. Good video.

When it is finished.

DayZ players should have the courtesy to play Arma2 at least once or twice.

lol...you prove yourself ignorant with your post and then call someone else ignorant in that very same post. Amazing... -

ArmA III(DayZ stand alone) engine improvements
Vertisce replied to Charles Darwin (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I guess I am just nitpicking your statement in that the standalone would benefit from ArmA 3 because of the Real Virtuality Engine when ArmA 1 and 2 are both the Real Virtuality Engine with a shell of an interface over it. Either way I agree that the standalone should be based off of the newest and greatest available...not tech from 5 years ago. Even if it means selling the standalone as it's own game for a higher cost or as an expansion pack. Chances are that when ArmA 3 comes out I will be too busy playing it to bother playing the DayZ standalone...I hate situations like this where I am forced to use old tech just to play a game. The way I figure it...someone will make a cool zombie mod for ArmA 3. Whether it is Rockets team or not (Team Rocket...heh...blasting off at the speed of light!) doesn't matter to me...I want to shoot zombies in ArmA 3's engine...not ArmA 2's. Ultimately it won't matter so long as he can get all the needed features from ArmA 3 into the standalone and upgrade the graphics from ArmA 2's engine to the standard that ArmA 3 will have. And yes...graphics do matter. If they didn't you would all still be playing MUD's or D&D on pen and paper. -
You fix bugs before adding more content. Yes...I am talking to you CCP!
-
Shoot the tires of an APC and it won't be able to go anywhere. Then you can wait them out to take it over for yourself. There are ways to disable tanks without the use of a rocket as well.
-
Zombie apocalypse and they can still manage random supply drops... Seems like a bad idea to me. Now if we had transport plane crash sites that had vehicles to fix and drive...perhaps a tank or APC or something...that would be pretty cool.

Most people don't play the PvP side of ArmA. I used to play it a lot but there are always a crapload more people in the PvE servers. I think it is mostly because you can do more with vehicle and weapons in PvE servers. Just more availability for everything.
-
I think that would actually be kind of fun. Im going on 3 weeks now without dying...I am about to the point where I want to go find a newb...give him all my stuff and ask him nicely to shoot me in the face.
-
Wouldn't surprise me. We have seen this happen before...hell...less than a month ago there was a mass ban of thousands of innocent players that had to be reversed. Here we go again.

There IS a PR department for this mod...it's these forums. I made a thread requesting the complete removal of items causing the artifacting issue and the first respons from a forum moderator was to check Reddit. I shouldn't HAVE to check Reddit. These forums are the official source of information for this mod...not Reddit. I wasn't particualarly calling you out as an asshole either. In fact I didn't refer to you at all...what I mean to say is that there are plenty of threads where forum moderators are complete jerks to the players for really no reason at all. Frankly the mod is completely unplayable now. You have players who purchased another game to play this mod who simply can't play. You have admins paying money to host a server so Rocket can get test data on a mod that is unplayable for a lot of people and sometimes including those admins hosting the server. If all the attention is going to shift to the standalone then I hope Rocket at least has the forethought to fix the major bugs making the mod unplayable so that the admins and players can at least enjoy it while we wait for the standalone. Yes it's a mod...yes it is an alpha...but that doesn't mean you get a crapload of people on board, make a majority of them pay for another game just to play it so you can get test data and then drop it like a rock just because you struck gold with approval for a standalone. All I ask is that they keep updating the mod like they said they would. And as stated in my thread...please for the love of God...fix the artifacting even if that means removing the objects creating the problem.
-
Please...for the love of God and all that is Holy...if you can't be 110% certain that you have a fix and it will be deployed with the next update, PLEASE remove the dead soldiers causing the graphical artifacting. Just delete them from the map. They are not integral to the game...we will not miss them one bit. I promise we won't miss them. They don't even do anything useful or contribute to anything. Just make them gone so we can start having fun in the airfields. I know this is an alpha test but it is pretty damned hard to play/test anything when it is completely unplayable in certain areas due to an unnecessary item causing a horrendous graphical error that cannot be easily fixed. There are 50 fixes out there...not one of which works for everybody and not one that has worked for me and many many others as of yet. So please...just remove them. Thank you.

After some of the posts I have seen lately from some of the forum moderators...I can't say I disagree.
-
If this is the kind of attitude that devs and moderators have then why would I as a potential consumer want to buy their game? Its not the players attitude that is the problem here. So far as I can tell the PR department for DayZ needs a lot of work. Forum moderators shouldn't be assholes to the players and developers shouldn't be whining about not enjoying their job. You made the mod...you left it half baked after getting what you wanted out of the players who tested it for you. Now you drop the mod when you get the option to go standalone and then say that you might do an update and enjoy it if we ask nicely? Give me a fucking break. The least you could do as the dev that MADE THE MOD is leave it in a semi playable state that would work as a decent demo for what the standalone will be. Instead you leave it completely broken and then say you don't want to fix it because the players complain too much about the problems?! WHAT... THE... FUCK...

Any way to recover from -127,021 humanity?

Im with Hombre...I would just buy another account. -
It seems to be a mistake that a lot of game companies make today. I don't even understand why people enjoy using Reddit. The layout of that site is abhorrent.

Will Green Mountain be in the standalone?
Vertisce replied to Darky1307's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I really hope this isn't true. Honestly a map about 4 times the size of the current one that is an actual island with Green Mountain at the center would be ideal. -
Building a new PC...need advice on a new case.

Did a lot more research on the HAF X today from Cooler Master. That may very well be my ultimate choice. A little more price but it seems like you get a lot of bang for your buck on that one. -
The new update makes it a simple choice for me. If they are a bandit...kill em...period. If not a bandit...maybe give em a chance after watching them for a bit.
-
I really hope that the support and bugfixes are better and faster with the standalone. You would think something as big of an issue as not being able to see at all in several key points on the map would be a priority. We have had this bug for several weeks if not over a month now. Please get it fixed.
-
Flushing works until I take a single step. Then the artifacts appear again. Reconnecting does nothing. Again...the point being is that no fix is a fix for all...the only thing that will fix it for all is to remove the problem from the map or fix the map.
-
*facepalm* We say that if it is a fix that Rocket thinks works then it needs to be here on this forum and not on Reddit so you give us a link to a Twitter post that links to Reddit... I am in awe. But hey...it is ok...while I would love to see a fix that works for all, ultimately the fix needs to come from the devs and the easy fix is to remove pointless objects causing the problem that nobody will miss.
