You know you've played too much DayZ when...

When you see another shooting on the news and wonder why they didn't all just hit F5... -
Birds should be worth full blood... If you are skilled enough to shoot, feather, cook and eat that bird...you deserve it!

Admins that spawn stuff to be "Helpful". Yes or no?

I think the outcome of this poll is already quite clear. -
To everyone that hates the zombies in 1.7.5.1, my tribute
Vertisce replied to GeneralMelchett's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah...pretty sure DayZ isn't meant to be a zombie slaughter fest. Let's see how well this works out when zombies can run in buildings. -
what happened to the legit players?
Vertisce replied to jinko82's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
High pop servers are where the fun is at...if I am forced to play on a low pop server where I never see another human soul just to avoid hackers, then there is no more fun in DayZ for me. There are two problems with whitelist servers... 1. Gotta get into it first and a lot of the time they don't let you in unless they know you. 2. Everybody knows each other and typically aren't in there playing the game as it is meant to be played. They are all buddy buddy and working together with no threat of banditry at all. At least this is what I have found with my experience in whitelist servers so far. -

I got tired of the hackers, so I quit playing for the most part until SA. -
You held up the wrong guy...
Vertisce replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I remember getting shot by some bandits in a random town. Despite putting 5 rounds from a DMR into one of the guys, he killed me and the game bugged out. I fell to the ground and couldn't move, but I wasn't actually dead yet. (I was technically dead but the game didn't register it and show me the "You DIED" screen.) He had two buddies catch up to him and they proceeded to teabag my body and drag me around. Little did they know that while they were doing this I could access their backpacks one at a time, take everything and drop it all on the ground. I proceeded to do this to all 3 of them as they dragged me around and talked smack like they were actually good. All of their gear was hacked in. All of it was overpowered crap that didn't belong in the game. Eventually MY friends showed up and opened fire on them. One of the guys ran out of ammo for his gun and went to switch to the other hacked weapon he had in his backpack...he wasn't too pleased. As he was screwing around trying to figure it out he dumped his equipped gun and several other items into his backpack, which I promptly removed for him and dropped on the ground. =D Good news is...they all died. Bad news...they just hacked their way back to us and killed us again and again until we left the server. -
Decided one day to come up with something entirely unique for the games I played online and somehow ended up with "Vertiscent". Eventually got tired of it being so long so I shortened it by 2 letters. People still just call me "Vert" anyway...

I did some searching on Google and never found what I was looking for with this. I am wondering if the Standalone DayZ client will be able to support larger maps? Our current maps are big...but not big enough in my opinion. I can walk from one end of the map to the other in a matter of 30 minutes if I cared to. Water sources are never more than a minute away, food is always easily and readily available and the towns are all far too close together and too small in most cases. This is probably asking a lot but it would be amazing to be in a world that is at least 10 times larger than Chernarus with larger cities and greater distances between points of interest. Vehicles would be far more useful and desired. Gas stations would actually have more of a use. There would actually be a point to carrying 3 canteens and 3 baked beans in your pack while you wander around. It's a bit of a dream I am sure...but has there been any information on just how large of a map the Standalone will support if there is any change at all?
-
I agree that the original ArmA map would be a lot of fun for DayZ. It was pretty small though...smaller than Chernarus anyway.

Who else LIKES the new update?
Vertisce replied to MissSweeney's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So far it seems no different to me. I experienced a total of 2 minutes of it so far. Logged in, hacker appears behind me and empties a whole lot of ammo from an infinite clip into me, I log off. Working great so far! -
Oh...that's Chernarus. It's not new, it's the original map.

Top 5 things the latest devblog told us.
Vertisce replied to Rage VG's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Swamps are often next to large water sources like the ocean or big rivers like the Mississippi. -
Ok...so I exaggerated just a bit on how long the walk takes. Either way...you see my point. Utes is not exactly a huge expansion to the map. It's a pretty small island really and if I recall correctly it fits right into the current map, just out in the expanse of water. I think it would be cool to literally take an entire day to get from one end of the map to the other without stopping. Just get lost in an expansive territory. One thought that crossed my mind was to give you a prompt when you hit the edge of a map to "zone" into the next map that might be housed on another server or something. This would allow you to make the total map almost limitless in size while keeping each square zone of a map small enough for a server to manage. The thought faded fast because it would kill immersion I think and a lot of people might not like it. But it's a thought at least.

One thing I would love to see is some variety in the zombies. Tall zombies, short zombies, thin zombies, fat zombies... FEMALE ZOMBIES! Female zombies with big boobs, female zombies with small boobs... Zombies missing limbs, zombies missing some clothes (no nudity), partially skeletal zombies... You get the idea. If all the zombies look relatively the same it gets pretty boring pretty fast. If the zombies had a slew of different sizes and shapes that could be created randomly with a crapload of clothing pieces to be randomly worn...VARIETY! As it is, with each zombie I kill I think to myself "I just killed you 2 minutes ago...". Would this be possible in the standalone? Would it be worth the extra work required to make it happen?
-
Nice. I didn't notice the female zombie there. I assume then we will also have more variety in the general look of the zombies as well? I would love to say to my buddies "You get the fat one...ill get the skinny one.". =D

New Update Makes DayZ Extremely Difficult
Vertisce replied to GrassyKnoll's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Half the fun for me in DayZ is sneaking around to avoid zombies. If I can't do this and zombies attack from all directions regardless of what I do...no more fun... -
Simple reason as to why bloogbags have a chance to give an infection..
Vertisce replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
How about the fact that said bloodbags are being picked up off the ground or out of cardboard boxes and are not being kept cold at all? -

I have never had an issue driving an ATV over a bridge...I am really curious to see what people are always talking about with this. -
Have you ever had a good play?
Vertisce replied to samzerks88's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
@samZerker, I know how you feel. Yes that is pretty much how the game is right now, but thats also the glory of the game. I think it would be cool to be able to pick a house in town or a building and truly fortify it. Put stationary guns in the windows, board up extra doorways and windows...really make it safe. Be able to lock the doors up when you log off the server and know that nobody can get in and steal your stuff without really having to work for it...pick a lock, blow a hole in a wall..etc... Right now, what you see is what you get. Roam around...gather up gear, make friends, make enemies, kill and be killed, rinse and repeat. While I do agree with your sentiment, for now...this is still a kickass game to play. -
One thing I noticed that has been driving me nuts is the character as he turns around. There is no motion of the body or legs. He stays completely still and just rotates. Some animation should be added to that. It really killed the immersion for me while watching that video. I would say that it is a little more important than flat clothing on the ground... Game looks awesome though! Can't wait!

Devblog update: Where is the Standalone?
Vertisce replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Yup...like I said. Fingers crossed. I was looking at that kitchen and thinking "I am so going to get trapped behind that table next to the window and eaten alive.". I would really love the character physics to stay but there needs to be a way to turn around in tight spaces. Even if that means the gun dropping down or pointing up as you turn around. Just gotta be able to turn around without having to back up like a Mack truck. Might need a mod with some sound effects for that. "beep...beep...beep...beep...". -
Devblog update: Where is the Standalone?
Vertisce replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I like the interiors of the buildings. It will be really nice to have houses populated like that. That does bring up one concern for me. It has always been an issue with ArmA and I pray to God that either ArmA 3 fixes this or the DayZ devs have found a way to fix it...turning with your gun drawn. Seriously...trying to turn around in a hallway, crowded room or on a staircase with your gun out is painful and pretty much impossible. Keeping my fingers crossed on this one. -
No to running full speed and shooting...no to jumping. This is not Call of Duty. It is a simulator...nobody runs while firing a gun in real life...not unless you are an idiot. Jumping ends up ruining most games and there really is no need for it. The rest of the ideas are fine. Good video.
