Bandit/Survivor Skins- WE NEED THEM BACK

In the few posts I have read from "ZedsDeadBaby" it has been made clear to me that he is just an ass that I would rather ignore...moving on. I think having different "skins" is not the way to go. Identifying them should not be that ease. Different skins that each player can choose to identify them as part of a group or clan...fine...that would be cool. I still believe that any determent from murder should be in the form of a small penalty to that persons ability to function efficiently in the game. This is why I think a penalty of sound, sight or smell against the zombies is the way to go. Kill another player and now because of the "blood on your hands" it is slightly harder to sneak around zombies. Simple.

    Nonlethal Weapon

Tazers, beanbag guns, dart guns, paintball guns with teargas rounds... I love it. So you could disable a person, loot them without killing them or even talk to them and convince them to work with you? Yes...this is a good idea.

    Banditry and co-operation.

The idea is that not EVERY town will be an objective town...at least not at the same time. In ArmA there is usually one town that is the current objective and another location is a side mission. Obviously they are optional. There is still plenty to do in the rest of the towns normally. The idea is to give a "reason" to band together and accomplish something other than just getting together to run around and maybe kill a person or two. The only reason I would partner up with someone in a real world scenario is either because I am lonely or I NEED that person to survive. As it is I don't NEED anybody in DayZ to survive...I can do that on my own relatively well. But it gets boring and lonely with nobody to talk to other than my pet rock. Missions or objectives would change that, especially if the work required to re-capture a town was a lot more difficult for just one person to do. Im not saying make it impossible. Soloing the zombie hoard should be doable but obviously having friends makes it easier.

    Banditry and co-operation.

This isn't ARMA. It's DayZ. And yes' date=' in this case, the "it's not WoW' argument applies. You seriously want loot falling from the sky in DayZ because you "completed a quest?" Come on. Get serious. Literally. [/quote'] Who said anything about loot falling from the sky? Do you just make up imaginary words in your head while reading? That's the only explanation I have for you. You mock my thread but you make a thread called "Player Identification and Classification System"? Really? This isn't WoW.

    Banditry and co-operation.

Uh huh...so your argument is "this isn't WoW". Whatever...move along. You obviously haven't every played ArmA before the DayZ mod. Missions would be contestable. People can still kill each other for the victory of clearing the town. People can still kill the player that looted the reward as well. There wouldn't be a leveling system and death is still a permanant loss of all your gear. Yes...that sounds exactly like WoW...

You obviously didn't read my post. Try again.
  7. So...the other day I was playing with a buddy around the airstrip on the coast. I came accross a character in camo with a silenced pistol. He was just standing there out in the open with zombies all around but not attacking him. I thought maybe he was just a random spawn or something but decided to check it out. This is when I discovered that you can open another persons backpack and take items from it. Yeah...I opened his pack when I saw the option and took a 50 cal sniper rifle and all the ammo...that was a mistake. That gun is suicide. It draws every zombie for miles! Anyway... It wasn't until a day later that I found out that he was an admin. I was telling the story to another guy I was on TS with and he let me know it was an admin. So...is there punishment for stealing from admins or is it fair game if they leave themselves out like that? Just curious. That gun ultimately got me killed anyway.
  8. lol...you were trying really hard not to say "Team Rocket" weren't you?

    Zombies act more like zombies.

The more you keep firing the more zombies show up. You only have so much ammo before you run out. What then? Log out? Thats always an option people abuse anyway so it's a non-issue. Same goes with being trapped in a room behind a door with a bunch of zombies on the other side. You are still trapped. You can always log out but you could have done that running away from the zombies anyway. Zombie banging on door makes lots of noise and attracts many more zombies. Its not the perfect way out of getting killed because you are either going to waste a lot of ammo shooting your way out, die anyway or log out. The latter, again, always an option that can and will be abused anwyay. The "infected vs zombie" argument is still moot. They are zombies in every definition of the word. Even the word "infected" implies "zombie" in this situation. You may change the story and say they aren't actually dead and still have a beating heart but they are still zombies. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck and tastes like a duck...it isn't chicken. It's duck.
  10. I will probably get invited to a few games only to get shot but here goes nothing... I have a few friends that play but most of them can't figure out that running in front of zombies is bad. I am looking for a solid group of people that are interested in playing this survival game properly. I am not a shoot everybody on sight kind of person...I prefer not to do that. If there are any clans, groups or a server out there thats looking for more friendly players, please let me know. Thanks.

    Looking for other good players.

Yeah...it's a bit of a pain in the ass. I am hoping there is a gaming clan or two started specifically for Day Z.

    No competent player should die

I read the OP and all I got from it was "I am an asshole and other people are morons because of it.". *shrugs* Whatever floats your little raft dude. Grow up.

    Zombies act more like zombies.

This argument of "they aren't zombies, they are infected" is stupid. Sorry...but even the author/dev cannot call the mod "Day Z" and call them zombies and then say they aren't actually zombies. They are zombies. They behave and work like a zombie in every sense of the fictional word. If the author has chosen to allow the zombies to climb ladders and open doors then so be it. We can disagree with him but it is ultimately his choice. Live with it or stop playing. Simple as that. I DO think it would be more fun as a game if they couldn't climb ladders and open doors. I have explained many times in a few threads including this one as to why. I don't feel the need to repeat myself yet again.

A way to stop the murders

The problem right now is that you either play on a server full of friends so you know you can trust everybody or shoot on sight because you can't trust anybody. It is too easy to just shoot on sight as there is no reprecaution. Unfortunately that is just the nature of the game. After being gunned down several times tonight while being completely unarmed...as in no gun at all...I think I am going to just start shooting everybody I see on sight. I think the number of reasonable people that want to be nice are far outnumbered by assholes that just want to be assholes all the time.

    Fat Zombies!

Chernarus is in Russia. There are no fat people in Russia. You are thinking of America. We Americans are really fat. Or so says the internet. There are plenty of fat zombies already in the game. I think you want them fatter...which is ok. Bigger targets. Female zombies are a must. If they can make a female character for the game then female zombies should be easy. I am sure that is one thats already been thought of and intended for the game though.

    Zombies act more like zombies.

I still kind of agree that the zombies (yes...they are zombies. Calling them "infected" does not take away the fact that they are still zombies.) should not be able to open doors and climb ladders. My argument to that is that these are "high level functions" which I believe they should not be capable of. Monkeys open doors and climb ladders but you don't see them eating off human faces or trying to kill us. I can't think of a single creature that can climb a ladder or open a door that has the aggression to kill a human or lacks "high level function" in their brains. However...I concede the fact that zombies are a work of fiction and as such are left open to interpretation by the writer/developer of the story or in this case, game. I still feel that it would make more sense and feel more genuine if they could not open doors or climb ladders but I will defer to the dev in this case as it could go either way depending on how he wants zombies to behave in his world. Personally I think it would be more fun if they couldn't because if a zombie is banging on a door, it means he is making a lot of noise and drawing in more zombies. Hiding in a building could become a very bad idea were this the case as you have limited ammo to kill them if too many "come a knockin". Pun intended. Same goes for ladders. Gathering zombies around the base of whatever you are on top of could become more of a problem then just running away.

    Lock/Board up doors

The issue with the buildings is more of a problem with ArmA. Most of the buildings are just not accessible. To fix this someone would have to mod out every building and change them to have doors and windows. This isn't impossible and I think it has already been done. Its just a matter of doing it or adding in the mod information to do it. It is one of my bigger qualms being unable to enter most buildings but I leave it alone as I know that ArmA is just that way.

    Crossbow as secondary weapon

I still like the quiver idea as well. Depending on the type of quiver also determines how many bolts could be hold. I have a real quiver that holds 25 and I also have a quiver that is on my crossbow that holds 10 in total. Makes the crossbow a bit bulky but its worth it. This could be a reason to have ammo IN the bow just like a gun does. You could just say the ammo is quivered on the bow and the action of cocking the bow and placing the bolt is the time between shots. Still...arrows need to stack a little bit at least. I love the crossbow and use it whenever I can. I would like it to be a secondary weapon but only for the reason of me liking it.
  19. Being a big zombie apocalypse fan, I am absolutely loving this game. I am spending way to much time playing it! That being said I do have a few complaints and ideas but I understand that this is a beta for the mod and I am sure if these ideas haven't already been discussed then they have probably been thought of before. I also realize that the mod is severely limited by the game it is built around as well. 1. Water. If I can refill a canteen at a pond or lake, I should be able to drink directly from the pond or lake. 2. Zombie movement is a bit ubsurd. The fact that they run is fine but the animation is just nutty. This goes for the attack animation as well. Just too fast. I think a smoother animation is needed for both attacking and running to make it a bit more realistic and less like the zombies are having seizures while running. 3. Zombies climbing ladders and doors. I heard it was recently changed to allow zombies to do both. Why is this? Both actions are what would be considered as "high level functions" which a zombie shouldn't have. A zombies function should be simple..."braiiiins! nom nom nom..." and that's it. Opening doors and climbing ladders should be beyond a zombies ability to understand. 4. Stacking items. I think some items should be stackable. Cans of food and whatnot probably not but the one thing that really comes to mind are crossbow bolts. 1 bolt per slot? Ouch. Let them be stackable in 20 or so and perhaps also make them retrievable. If fired into a zombie I should be able to get it back and use it again. If fired into a wall then perhaps it should be lost forever. This would make it rewardable to hit my target properly and not miss. 5. Finally, and this is something that just kind of upset me while playing and is likely more an issue with ArmA than the mod, not sure if it can be fixed. Zombies attacking through walls and doors. Windows I get...maybe not intended but it works. When a door is closed, a zombie should not be able to attack through it. Bang on the door perhaps but not clip through and deal damage to the player on the other side. Perhaps if a zombie cant open the door but can attack it and make lots of noise that attracts other zombies (this would make hiding inside a room less tempting). I was in a small building with two doors on either side with zombies around me. The doors were closed but they were clipping through hitting me on both sides and there was nothing I could do about it. Frustrating! I also had broken legs and even though I had a gun I couldn't seem to kill a zombie with it while prone after I opened a door. Overall I am liking the direction of the game. I am sure my complaints are minor but I hope they have some merit and will be considered. I admit I have not spent a lot of time looking through the threads here but I am about to do so. Enjoy!

A few ideas and a few complaints.

Ill mess around with it some more the next time I get a crossbow then. Perhaps something that would be useful to those of us that really like that crossbow would be a quiver. Replaces the backpack and has whatever amount of slots for each arrow and the crossbow can be reloaded directly from the quiver unlike the backpack.
  21. Cool...good idea in this thread. Hope the devs do plan to implement regeneration.

I love the idea Mahoney has there regarding the Camelbag.

    Sight and Sound Meter

I wouldn't really miss them either. The problem I DO have is that even when you are moving slowly and crouching you are still making a lot of noise. Its a poor mechanic of ArmA but if that could be fixed to where you make an amount of noise appropriate to what you are walking on and how slow you are moving it would be perfect. As it is it sounds like you are stomping the ground as hard as you can when you sneak around. I am certain we all could be much quieter in reality if we needed to be. What would be amusing is having a mechanic for "twigs"...you know the random branch on the ground that someone always inevitably steps on which alerts all the zombies in the area to their location? lol

    New Zombie Textures

Very nice. I am personally hoping for much greater variety in the skins themselves. All too often I find myself running from quintuplets or several sets of quintuplets.

Idea to help friendly players stay friendly

I like it the way it is honestly. The whole idea of this mod is the survival aspect. In a real world scenario, how would you know if you can trust that new guy or not? I walked up on a guy that was inspecting a recent zombie that he shot. I pointed my gun at his back and said "Turn around or move and I will kill you." through my mic. He actually didn't move and replied to me. After I was happy that he wouldn't shoot me if I let him go, we teamed up and I took him to a loc I found earlier with a bunch of good guns. To me that whole experience was surreal. It had my heart pounding even though it was just a game. He could have easily lied to me and shot me in the back at a moments notice when I let him go. Instead...I made a friend. That's how it should be.
