Zombies clipping through walls, floors, windows, etc...
dontblamecows replied to Vertisce's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I believe the zombie transitioning through walls is due to Arma 2 itself, and how it handles model hit boxes and skeletons. It probably won't be an easy fix, but I'm presuming they are working on it like everything else. -
Every server unless stated will be connected to the same hive server, which is where your characters data is stored. If you log into say ANZ 1 and shoot around for a bit, then hop into ANZ 4, you will be where you left off. If a server has stated it is using a private hive server, you will not have any of your saved character data ported over from any existing one, it will be an entirely new character. Hope this helps you out, have fun!

I miss being able to play

Technically he is right though, you are not owed anything, and people who keep saying this are using payment for Arma 2 as an excuse that a alpha game should be working perfectly fine. You bought Arma 2, even if you only intended to play DayZ, you still purchased Arma 2 for Arma 2, that is what your $30 gets you. This would akin to me saying I bought Skyrim only for the Blacksmithing mod, and if it were to bug out, then complain how I spent $70 for a mod that is free, yet I have a perfectly working base game. I would suggest following these instructions that I made specifically to get the game working without Steam or the SixUpdater. It will save you time and effort trying to fiddle around with automatic programs, and is probably the best setup. You also can manually get rid of the Arma 2 beta patch files to revert down from 1.61 and this also applies to DayZ and downgrading to lower patches. -
THIS is how the game should be
dontblamecows replied to Jackftw's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It would a lovely sight to have a heap of roaming zombies, but the performance issues would be horrendous. It just isn't feasible at the moment with the way the Arma 2 engine works and how detrimental it would be to the gameplay. -
I fell off the god damn sky when i joined a server ... Died Instantly ... WTF
dontblamecows replied to NoRegrets's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Sounds like a bug that occurs after you've been sent to debug forest, however 1.7.2 doesn't save debug locations anymore, so you may have just been randomly ported. Ah well, bad luck there champ, best to just go about your business, and don't get attached to your character! -
Arma 2 + OA Demo possible?
dontblamecows replied to [email protected]'s topic in New Player Discussion
If you purchase just Arrowhead and use the Arma II free version, you can play DayZ, however there is quite a number of graphical overlay bugs and issues that will get in the way. However it is playable and you are more then welcome to do so. -
DayZ on Steam Arma 2 feature list.
dontblamecows replied to RedShadow30's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
With the popularity of DayZ and how it has caused a large amount of sales in the past few months, I wouldn't be surprised that it is being advertised on the Arma II page. However, I have to disagree with your comments, you didn't buy DayZ at all. DayZ is a free mod, that you are able to download AFTER purchasing Arma II. No where are you paying for a mod for a GAME that you have PURCHASED that can be played ON ITS OWN. Clearly you are jumping to conclusions that having seen a mod become so popular it is apparently (to you) that you are now paying for it when you buy a game that offers the ability to play the mod. When you buy Arma II, you are buying Arma II, not DayZ. You are buying a army simulator that strives on realism and has a campaign and multiplayer of its own. -
Hi there all, first time posting here but I was wondering if I could get a little help on renting a server. I'm based in Australia, and am obviously looking to rent/purchase a server for DayZ. I've noticed a few American ones offering slot based servers, or the chance to just outright buy a dedicated server, however I think I'd be more interested in buying just slots. Currently over here our VPS's are quite expensive due to our data exchanges being quite "less" powerful. I know that GameArena are in the talks with DayZ staff in-order to get some servers going on their behalf, but so far they haven't been able to push forward due to the requirements needed for allowing admin access. So the question is, where could I find a decent host for a DayZ server? I noticed most of the ANZ servers are running just a VPS, but I was also wondering if any overseas companies were offering servers in Australia for cheap.

Australian Server Rentals

Sounds about right. Thanks for the info, and hopefully you guys are able to get more servers online. Currently we at GameArena are looking at hosting a bunch of servers, we have the capacity and want to do it, but we just can't get into contact with anyone to figure out some of the security issues. If any server admins for DayZ are reading this, could you please send me a direct message and we can hopefully get something started in the works. -

Seems the most likely option. I'll just have to keep asking GameArena then... -
Found your problem. Seems you didn't read his post entirely, he said 'if YOU ARE sensitive to losing gear", not that he is.
