While server-hopping is not nearly as much of an issue as it used to be with the new timers, it still is very much possible to do so any many people do. Instead of just staying in one building and hopping every 30 seconds, they now cover a wider area so the timers dont hit them as hard. So basically, for example on the NEAF, hoppers will just log in in the western prison, clear all the buildings and log out in the eastern prison, rinse repeat. Another, issue, which imho is much more important is ghosting. This also got harder with the timers and the 30 second logout dummy, but for players who are in a team this is still being abused a lot. Some group is camping in a building you can't storm? Just have 2 of yours log out, switch, and log in behind them somewhere. Takes longer than it used to, but otherwise this is still possible and people still abuse it. So heres my suggestion how to fix this: Just like the 30 second logout dummy to prevent Combat Log, add a 30 second login "dummy". Basically all the devs would have to do is to add a 30 second state of "unconsciousness" after joining a server, where you cannot control your character at all and cant see. And 30 seconds after you have logged in, you are good to go. This should be very easy to implement, and in combination with the login "reload" sound would make any attempt to ghost suicidal, because nearby players will hear that you logged in behind them, and then have 30 seconds to kill you before you can react. On top of fixing the ghosting abuse, it would also make server hopping significantly more risky. This should be easy to implement for the devs, and is only a minor annoyance for legit players. You already have to find a safe spot to log out now anyway, so the only players affected by this are the ones who do so in high risk areas. It would also prevent server hopping snipers, from going on a low-pop server, climbing the highest building in the area, and then switch to a full one. Unless they like standing on the highest building in town for 30 seconds for everyone to see.

My best geared char so far, not just because of the weapons, but also the outfit. Always had a fully pristine modded mosin on me, and then changed from m4, to blaser, to sks, and back to m4. Don't have a screenshot of the inventory but, but had plenty of ammo and med supplies as well. Had that char for 2 weeks, and then lost it after climbing a ladder and falling right back down again after i reached the top. :D Also notice the handsome construction worker at my side ;)

This. I definitely want some very powerful, but also very very rare items in the game. It's something that keeps the game interesting when you think you have seen everything and done everything. I want items in the game, that are so rare that you will probably never see them. But it has to be done right. Our group played the DayZero mod for about 6 months, and in all that time we have never even seen some of the most rare items. The Lapua Magnum Sniper rifle there was a 1-hit kill weapon, but it only spawned at a certain type of crash site, and you (most of the time) had to take down that helicopter yourself. In half a year we have found only a couple dozens of bullets for it, and we have never found the weapon, and never seen anyone who had one. Still every time we took down one of those helicopters or found a crash site it was thrilling because we knew that MAYBE we would get lucky and find one of those rifles.

Fair enough, unless server stability and uptime improves a blanket 30 second timer would be a bad idea for this reason alone. Hadn't thought of that. Disregard then. ;)

How would you get killed by zeds if you log out in a safe place? Same goes for players. Unless you log out in the middle of a city this should be a non-issue.

Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
vile. replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
Absolutely love the change. The game feels like DayZ again, now you actually have to worry about something besides other players. Especially in the rarely traveled regions of Chernarus where you are unlikely to encounter another players, the zombies now pose a threat where there was none before. Before, you just checked every house until the place was cleaned out and moved on. Zero challenge. Now this is actually fun again. It also makes PvP a lot more interesting, because you cant just spray down everyone you see in the middle of a city without drawing a ton of zombies, which is how it should be. To the people who feel they are too hard: - you can still outrun them, played a couple of hours today and some of our team died, but they always managed to drink in Berezino and run back up north with zombies chasing them - they are still easy to kill with a decent melee weapon, just move sideways and hit them after they jumped. I killed dozens of zombies this way today and got hit only once - shooting will NOT always spawn new zombies. we had a standoff in a prison that lasted for almost an hour, and we kept trying to shoot each other through doors and walls and after a while we did not aggro zombies anymore - if you wanna shoot them, be prepared to spend some ammo to clear them all up. its still very much doable, but takes a lot more time and ammo. just use a melee weapon for now, and once suppressors work they will become a lot more manageable, you shouldnt be shooting zombies without one anyway (draws too much attention) -
This logout system seriously needs to be deleted

I have NEVER even seen the server switching timer. You're doing it wrong (or just trying to server-hop). -
Not sure if it was a hacker or de-sync but heres what happened to two friends of mine at elektro: They were camping on the sniper hill and some fresh spawn approached them. After one them (quite rudely) told him to go somewhere else, the fresh spawn told them to go screw themselves and that he'll be back with god mode soon. Soon enough he came back, teleporting all over the place, punching them in the face, disappearing and reappearing constantly until one of my mates went down. He then proceeded to take his m4 and shoot them both. Heres what it looked like according to one of them (starting at 0:40):

Loved it. Keep up the good work.

Confirmed, toolbar and inventory seem to be more responsive. Have some beans!

Stay away from the shotgun(s), here is why.
vile. replied to DayzForumer's topic in General Discussion
Mate just got shot by a double barreled from 5 meters and didn't die. Either the damage is horribly off or its just bugged. At that range a shotgun blast should be deadly. -
Bad change imo. On the one hand i agree that you should not be able to loot your own body after you died. But on the other hand i would like to be able to loot the bodies of the people i recently killed. And if you are playing against a decent squad, you are never going to be able to loot a body within 10 minutes of the kill. Against 2 people, maybe. But a squad with more than 3 players will most of the time have a sniper providing overwatch or some other backup that makes it impossible to loot before you have wiped out everyone and thats can take a lot longer than 10 minutes. Hell, we've had fights against other groups that dragged on for almost 2 hours. As others have already said, i hope this is just a temporary change to reduce the load on the server and will eventually be increased.

No it wasn't. Yeah you can expect them to fix it, because it is a huge issue that makes reliably firing weapons in prone position impossible. If you're prone and not on/in a building or on a road there's a high chance that your bullet will hit the ground 10 cm in front of you. And it happens everywhere on the map.

Why does every person with a gun shoot on sight?
vile. replied to joeymp's topic in General Discussion
Because combat logging is so widespread at the moment that the non-lethal forms of banditry are simply not viable. If you try to actually hold someone up at gunpoint to rob some of their gear, 9 out of 10 players will just log out. Until this is fixed its just better to kill people before they have a chance to react, and then take the loot off of their dead bodies. Yea it's boring, but theres no alternative right now. I do expect KoS to go down after CL is fixed though. -
Happened a couple of days after the SA came out. Four of us, armed to the teeth, had just finished looting Zeleno for food and drink and minding our own business, when our fifth man, who just spawned and was running up from Kamenka to join us, was getting held hostage for his blood in front of the the Pavlovo military hospital by three guys. The hostage takers were still trying to figure out how to take his blood and our mate played along, so we had enough time to run down there, get in position on the hill overlooking the hospital, with a perfect view our mate in a white shirt surrounded by 3 others in military camo... And then, flashlight in hand with three m4a1 rifles pointed at him, our mate said: "Guys, drop your weapons now, or you are all going to die..." There was a moment of silence while they were probably asking themselves if this guy had a death wish. Unsurprisingly they did not comply, we all unloaded on them, and 5 seconds it was all over. And to make the moment complete, they got the global voice bug, and we could hear them trying to figure out what the hell had just happened to them and crying about all the stuff they just lost. :D Ive been playing the mod religiously since it came out, but that still was one of the most epic and hilarious DayZ moments i ever had. Wish i had frapsed it.

Were you standing up or crouching? In prone position with the bipod deployed it is very accurate up to 800 meters.

I'm using a 8 GB RAM disk for Dayz which is many times faster than any SSD but the FPS increase was only minor compared to HDD. In large cities i didn't notice any changes, frame rate took a dive while playing from HDD and still does using RAM disk. Overall the game feels a lot smoother though.
-
Is anyone using this? Apparently you can increase your Arma2 and DayZ frame rate a lot and get rid of the stuttering if you use RAMdisk to launch the game from RAM instead of your HDD or SSD. I found some threads about it on the BI forums and apparently this can give you a massive fps boost and get rid of the stuttering when zooming and make gameplay in big cities much smoother. Would love to get some info if this is still viable, since most 80% of my 16 Gigs of RAM are unused all the time. Thread on the BI forums about RAMdisk: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?88388-Here-s-how-I-got-ARMA2-to-perform-smoothly-using-RAMDISK

It's a bug that happens when you log in on a building and move around while you're still de-synced. Me and some friends logged out in one of the big apartment buildings and when we logged back in an hour later, i moved up the stairs for ~15 seconds when i got the "You are dead" screen for no apparent reason. Turns out i somehow glitched through the wall and fell to my death. Same thing happened to my mates but in different buildings. Not sure if it only happens if you just logged in or any time you are de-synced.

Nice tutorial, but I find it more reliable to calculate the distances using a map with range markings on it, like this one (at least for long range shots). Only works if you have very good knowledge of the map and when you know exactly where you are (and you may wanna keep a calculator handy): Find out the horizontal and vertical distance from your location to your targets location and calculate the exact distance using the Pythagorean theorem. Like so:

Does anyone have a range refrence chart?

Yes they are. -

Not sure if you need distances for sniping, but if you do, heres how i do it: 1. Know exactly where you are sniping from using any map (the exact coordinates). 2. Know exactly where your target is, or is going to be using any map. 3. Use a map that has distance markings on it like this one for example. 4. If your target area is in a vertical or horizontal line from you, just use the 100m markers to figure out the distance. If not, use the good old Pythagorean theorem to calculate the exact distance. 5. Zero and aim accordingly, and you will hit. -
If there is no required log-out timer people are going to abuse it all day long. People will just log out before a potential confrontation before combat has even started. And this will in turn increase KoS, because people are just gonna shoot first instead of giving people a chance to do that. And your suggestions also have a lot overly complicated ifs and buts, which is not a good idea when the devs are trying to keep the strain on the server as low as possible. I'm sorry, but if your internet fails, your computer dies or for whatever other reason you really really need to go, then better hope nobody was shooting at you at the time.

This. CL was a non-issue in DayZero because your character would just stay on the server for 30 seconds if you Alt+F4. It works and should be very easy for the devs to implement.
