A few questions, thinking of buying this
Booker (DayZ) replied to thelonewarrior's topic in New Player Discussion
Yeah you can get a ghillie suit & camo clothes at the moment as well as a variety of 5 different bags, all different sizes and able to carry different amounts of items. A ghillie suit is that full camo clothing, it makes you look like a bush essential so you blend in with grass/bushes etc. The camo is just a change of clothes which changes you from civillian style clothes to military style clothes. Both the bags and clothes are found in mainly residential/supermarket loot spawns. -
Start us off with NOTHING please

It's a pouch, it's not visible on your back. I think. -
There are three types of zombies, the Olympic sprinters, the crawlers and the ones that crawl around on their stomach. The only ones that seem too fast are the Olympic sprinters, but really they are not that fast, it's just that their animation speed is turned up really fast so it makes them jerky and erratic. It's alpha, what do you expect. When their animation speed is toned down, they will look a lot less jerky and erratic.

You will loose all that gear eventually to something else, enjoy the experience for what it is and try find yourself some antibiotics. Make it your mission to get some antibiotics, you'll eventually find them or die trying, if you find them, you will get such a rewarding feeling.

Sneaking is essential now, you need to hide behind objects, crawl and stay out of their field of vision. Pay attention to the visual number on the debug monitor.

A few questions, thinking of buying this
Booker (DayZ) replied to thelonewarrior's topic in New Player Discussion
If you leave the game your items are saved, and you do re-enter in the location you logged off. Vehicles will stay on the server they were found on, there is no way to transfer them across servers. The character you play will always be saved unless you die, if you die you must start again. When you log off your character will not deteriorate in any way, shape or form. You will be as hungry/full as when you left and you health will be the same. There is nothing you need to unlock in this game, everything is found through searching different loot locations which are scattered across the map and categorised into different loot types, generally this means you will find weapons/ammo in military places, clothes etc in residential and car parts in industrial for example. The loot is randomly generated and it's up to luck to determine what you find. A word of advice would be, to never get attached to you gear but to make the most of that gear while you have it, because you will die during this game, you'll die a lot to countless different reasons. Also, this game is in it's alpha state, this means there will be bugs and you need to be aware that they will happen to you. Other than that, this game evokes a lot of emotion and really does immerse you into it instantly. You won't regret buying the game. HAVE FUN! EDIT; p.s never tell anybody you have beans. -
A changelog for 1.7.2.1 & 1.7.2.2 too if that is possible. Would be appreciated!

Eventually disconnecting in combat will be a thing of the past, and a great solution will be implemented. We'll look back and think, "OH MY GOD, I REMEMBER THE DISCONNECT TO AVOID DEATH DAYS"!

Barbed wire everywhere...
Booker (DayZ) replied to Drayden (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah, some times the access box is inside a wall and you can't take it down too. If a barbed-wire fence could be taken down from any position adjacent/parallel, it wouldn't be so bad! -
Rocket said it was an exploit, but people will use it if they have it as an option. It's better to prevent it with certain mechanics than punish for it.

Would be nice to know what's going on in these crucial moments, aka mass testing of 1.7.2. I currently don't know what's implemented and what's not. If we could get some clarification on what's implemented we would know what to start looking out for so we can give you the relative feedback.

My first murder and now I feel guilty
Booker (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in New Player Discussion
It can go the other way though! I went to the airstrip in Balota on a mission to kill people and get some ammo, I ended up finding a guy with an axe running around the control tower screaming "FRIENDLY FRIENDLY! don't shoot! please let me hide in the building with you". I don't know what came over me but I decided to let him come into the building and also killed the stream of zeds chasing him too, knowing all the risks involved with shooting at such a highly trafficked place. I had done a good deed, I had saved my fellow man from the blight of the zombies, but despite my efforts the man with the axe was not so good with his footing, he shouts "Wow thanks dude!" at me before taking a step too far and falling off the top of the control tower and killing himself. Sometimes I think, WHAT'S THE POINT! -
I put a gun in my backpack literally 10 minutes ago, 1.7.2 and the latest beta patch. Make sure you have room before you put things in your backpack or it deletes them.
-
Yeah I agree, seems to be working as I would expect it to work now.
-
Zombie pathing while they chase seems to be more predictable once they are in 20m radius of me now and a lot less erratic as it was before, but their aggro distance is more unpredictable as it once was and they seems inconsistent in when they pick and choose to detect you. I too also had problems with ghille suits and camo but that all part of testing a game. I was wondering if it was possible for us to get a statement of what's actually going on right now in terms of hotfixes to be applied and what changes are implemented already on 1.7.9.2 so we can give you better feedback. For example I'm under the impression bear traps were supposed to be implemented in this patch but I have not found one so my current feedback would be "Bear traps do not spawn enough", but they obviously are not implemented. Basicly we need to know what's available to test for us at the moment, otherwise we can't give proper feedback.

I'd like some information on this hotfix mentioned on the Day Z twitter which was supposed to happen once the forum came back up. Also! wouldn't mind knowing generally, what's going down?!

I'm logged in invisible, I heard it's due to ghillie suits since I was wearing one. Also having trouble connecting to some servers, I'm getting the "waiting for the character to create"

I heard a dog companion is in the works to be implemented!
Booker (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
http://gamerfront.net/2012/07/dogs-coming-to-dayz-a-standalone-version-possibly-in-the-works/21489 So dogs might be possibly coming to DayZ! I think a decent way to implement the dog would be to "tame" it in a sense, by finding it stray(in the woods) and feeding it raw meat. Dogs tend to stay with people that feed them as opposed to having the player starting with the dog when they spawn on the coast! I think giving up your food resources to feed the dog will create a bond as well as it being slightly "rare" and being found also creates a bond between the player and the dog. I think in times of desperation too, the player can choose to shoot the dog and get meat from it. It would be an emotional experience but should be an option! This is just an idea with the whole dog thing, what do you think? -

Definitely, I think a nice touch would be to somehow also find a way to implement a randomly generated name for the dog, because with names come a personality. By the way, I think this should be moved to suggestions. -

Booker (DayZ) replied to Booker (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I definitely think spawning with the dog will devalue the life of the dog/companion, the player will think "if I die, I get another one" which isn't the kind of mindset you want to have. I think if the player finds the dog and it's seen as a rarity as well as giving you a special bonus of sorts, the player will value it a lot more, also I feel if I had to give up my food to feed my dog, I'd grow a bond with it. I would also have an emotional process in my head if I found myself in the position where I had no food and was contemplating killing my companion for food, I would be waiting for that last moment where I absolutely had to kill it, like I'd been putting it off because I value the dogs life but had to do it to survive. Triggering emotional responses is what creates memories and experiences! Obviously this is all speculations but I do think there is something in this whole pet companion thing -
The ammo tracking is a change that I'm really looking forward to. Anything that adds to be being aware that my supplies are limited!

Thanks for clearing that up Icemotoboy!

Fairwell, had enough of this
Booker (DayZ) replied to LieutenantDan's topic in New Player Discussion
I said he sells those in large quantity. He has military weapons such as a few m16 and m4. He also has two barret rifles, m107 and the civilian version of the m85 bolt action. He has many others in his dedicated weapons room of his basement including an m2 browning. Guess this makes me more "badass" than you will ever be. So keep hiding behind your "badassery" from surviving in a game. My uncle is a fireman! -
It's going to be game changing when it is fixed, I honestly can't wait.
