Stupidity on this forum is OP. You idiots need to be 20 to 1 forum account.

When they remove barbed wire fences / tank traps because they're what are causing them. Why they're even in the game at this stage is beyond me... Make bear traps more abundant. They're not a "leave it and troll" item so much because any joe shlomo can disable it if it's placed in an obvious spot like every fucking door to every high end loot building in the game.

Ultimate server settings poll (What should go and what shouldn't?)
[email protected] replied to panque's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Buy me track IR, like seriously. That you even need such an expensive external product as track ir to remove some clunkiness (as I stated earlier) speaks volumes for why there's third person in the game. -

You however actually answer someone and that's nice to see. Yours and my definitions of clunky differ a lot, every game needs some learning I will not debate that one iota -- I'm a person who leans towards over the top controls in games. And I appreciate you've got the mussle memory down to press wildly on the keys but that does not mean it isn't clunky. There is a reason that head tracking camera devices are championed by Arma II and it's not just for the vehicle combat. We can get into minor debates over the "real world abilities the game does not poses" all day to be honest, just to counter the ones you said -- A piece of broken glass or mirror would be all over the floor in a town and it takes nothing to pick one up with a rag and use it to peep over objects. I think it's a rabbit hole we both shouldn't be going down though. I'm one of the people who suffers from motion sickness too with Armas first person I think there's quite a high percentage of people who do, but that's okay I don't expect an entire game to cater to my "sickness". If arma 3 negated the biggest limitations that arma 2's engine has then it would be fine to have third person off -- But we're currently on arma 2 so that's a moot issue until standalone rolls by. -

Your OP is pretty biast from the outset really, but still. Just to say that third person is not "really unrealistic". It is in fact more realistic than first person only because of the game engine limitations. That is exactly why it was added to ARMA 2 in the first place. The game is clunky as hell in first person and unrealistically limiting in what you're allowed to do (Simple things like moving your fucking head up so you can see over grass without crouching?). Third person negates that. "seeing over things" is a moot point, in the real world I would do things to see over objects that are simply impossible in this game such as creating peep holes, using mirrors or periscopes, peeping over things with a tiny portion of my head etc). Edit: I can imagine the "you're wrong" arguments that will follow. Do not even begin to start an argument white knighting the game engine. It has its limitations and that's fine -- It's exactly why third person is in the game. Don't go telling me the human body isn't capable of doing x thing. The game does not model what the average human can do in first person mode effectively. Even the ability to look around is so clunky and takes more time than you could possibly do in real life. BIA are well aware of that fact -- Hence third person, that you can clip through walls occasionally is an annoyance but is possible in first person too. And finally, do not think that you would "crouch" when in an ambush position where it should be possible to be prone.. Seriously. Do you think someone would silhouette themselves on top of a building in real life? You'd make loop holes to peep through so that you do not show your body. Such as this but a lot more subtle: http://i255.photobuc...41/Picture4.jpg Read some books on urban combat / sniper tactics. Here are a few starters: http://ecx.images-am...L500_AA300_.jpg http://www.ospreypub...1761411-th2.jpg http://ecx.images-am..._SH20_OU02_.jpg First person only as implemented in Arma II is unrealistic and goes against the grain of basic tactical fieldcraft 101. And for the record, i'm not a roof camper. -
Why do regular/recruit servers exist?
[email protected] replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
in real life I can turn indoors properly and know where I am / not get stuck in a "tight" pathway. In real life, I know if im hidden in a tree or not. In real life I can see what clothes I wear or see a mirror / glass to see that and know where I can hide. In real life I have a bigger fov and can easily turn and view things not be restrained by clunkyness. In real life I can lay on my belly and not be blind in grass as i'm able to tilt my head up. In real life I can poke my head OVER things to see them or use glass as a type of periscope. The game engine limits all of that -- That's why there's a fucking third person option in the game because... Shock, horror... First person only is NOT realistic. Nametags / Regular and Recruit servers need to go. But third person is actually more realistic (abuse and all) than first person only. -
Satchel Charge Range?

100m seems to do the trick. You don't need to set a timer, you can "touch off" the bomb too. -
Fishing - Tackle, Traps and Rods! *Update*
[email protected] replied to Puffler's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Absolutely think this should be in dayZ. The survival aspect needs more depth. There needs to be more animals in the game and they need to roam around more. Fishing totally needs to be in too. I doubt this will be added before standalone, but I sure as shit hope it will be. -
Tents NEED to change.

Well your enthusiasm is fantastic, but I fear this thread will just be burried under a giant pile of "ADD LASERS" "MAKE IT SO WHEN YOU DIE SOMEONE SHOOTS YOU IRL" "ADD A10'S TO DAYZ" threads ;) -
What kind of landscape would you like to see in a DayZ stand alone game?
[email protected] replied to scouski's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I really, really hope they don't use the stock greek island map from Arma 3 as the greek arid landscape really is quite a crappy atmosphere in terms of survival etc. And I sure as shit hope he doesn't pander to an obviously "large" market and situate it in the USA or some such retarded crap. That was am interesting take on things, their map makers were skillfull for sure. But the map was so very "small" and cramped to account for that area. Obviously, the game was aimed at mainstream and was pretty arcade. You couldn't walk 5 foot before you found another person / house / object even in the wilderness. You could go from the pseudo Mexican boarder to snow in like 10 minutes. -
Kicks by ping, and why its annoying
[email protected] replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If your rust bucket of a PC / internet connection is giving you such a poor ping then you're not "entitled" to lag out a server for other people. 150ping should be the cap really. People running at 200+ ping and being all "i was kicked for my ping wtf?" need to sort it out. -
What kind of landscape would you like to see in a DayZ stand alone game?
[email protected] replied to scouski's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
"fictional" with heavy inspiration from an actual location, just like the current game. Means the devs can blend the feeling of authenticity but not be shackled by the downsides of w/e location. I like the rolling forests of the current game. Canada / Eastern Europe. It feels so "right" for survival. I'd like a single enormous city too as well as cherno / elektro sized "city towns". Some super high mountain areas with snow would be a plus also. -
Just got shot, unarmed.
[email protected] replied to kingoscar1's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah becayuse, IRL in this situation I'd go charging headlong into a military base that looked like a warzone and be all "HAY GUYS CAN WE ALL BE FRIENDS? I WANT TO TAKE GUNS FROM THIS PLACE OK?? LETS BE FRIENDS" -
Just got shot, unarmed.
[email protected] replied to kingoscar1's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I read the thread fine the first time. Any multiple loot building military complex is high risk, not just the north west airfield. Berezino military camp, Balota airfield, Stary sober military camp, NE airfield etc etc etc They spawn milspec weaponry and you will be shot on sight there -- get used to it, they're high risk zones whether you have weapons or not. -
Just got shot, unarmed.
[email protected] replied to kingoscar1's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Why did you go into the airfield? To get a gun. He shot you before you got your gun. Anyone in an airfield is fair game, don't expect otherwise. Not to mention if you were crawling he might not have even seen if you had a gun or not. It's not like you logged in at the coast and some guy walked up and pumped a magazine into you. HAY GUYZ SO I WALKED INTO THIS HIGH RISK PVP MILITARY COMPLEX AND SOMEONE SHOT ME WHEN THEY SAW ME, WHAT THE FUCK GUYZ. -
whats is your ideal gun setup/gameplay style
[email protected] replied to resistence1993's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Ideal you say? For the hunting down of teams at night / daytime at high risk areas north of the map while solo. Main weapons: DMR Silenced M9 L85AWS (in the backpack) Outfit: Ghillie suit Tools: Night vision goggles Laser range finder Toolbox Watch Flashlight Military flashlight GPS Map Compass Entrenchment tool Hatchet Matches Hunting Knife Inventory: (Including Coyote backpack) Morphine x2 Painkillers x2 Bandage x3 Antibiotics x1 Heatpack x2 Cooked meat x4 (3,200 "instant" blood in a scrape) DMR magazine x5 Stanag magazine x1 Stanag SD magazine x1 M9 SD magazine x6 Grenade x1 Smoke grenade x2 Water bottle x3 Bear trap x1 -
where do you guys find good weapons?
[email protected] replied to mythlawlbear's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The hills around Elektro has the highest spawn rate for all of the rare items in the game. It's my first stop once I've got some form of weapon in Elektro itself! :) -

This quote is refreshing. I don't agree with some of your systems, but you're well aware of your faults and are open to discussion and changes on the fly. It's also nice that you actually explain what's going to be implemented, even if it's a background data collection. Keeping your userbase informed and at least listening to what they have to say (not necessarily sheeping along with the opinions of the loudest, but at least taking in different opinions) is pretty wise. -

If his system actually 100% singled out the people exploiting ALT+F4 to escape danger in game whether zombies or players then I'm happy for that. You're exploiting a bug to avoid things you don't like in game which totally undermines the fear in a hardcore multi player game such as this. Morality of bandits aside, at the very least they are not abusing game bugs. However the system being proposed would be full of more holes than a colander... Rocket likes to collect and analyse data, he certainly could have done that on the sly without even informing us so I appreciate that he not only mentioned it would happen but also stated what the data was being collected for. But a system coming off of that data would be neigh on impossible to impose correctly. It would seem he wants to "see" though and at least have data to look at for when he plays with scripts in his prototype version. This is an experiment after all and he is not shackled by the conformities of having to appease everyone and be carebear that a lot of mainstream games suffer. So if he fucks something up? Ooops -- No one paid for it. Got to break a few eggs to make an omlette and all that. But I do hope his mindset is not to purposely break eggs just because he can. Really though -- The solution to the problem of Alt+F4 is a 30 second timer, 5 - 15 minutes if a player killed someone. If that's able to be scripted for this mod is a different matter. If he has to hack it somehow I'd prefer that than the "we can do it easily in standalone" so much of the game is not being balanced properly because of the issue of Alt+F4 -- If he's really using this as a test bed, it is in fact vital to fix now before standalone. Edit: Something like a LogOut data field in the database for each character. As soon as a character moves their location or shoots or does any form of interaction with the game including being damaged or put into shock or bleeding etc then that field is set to 30. If nothing is happening in game then the field drops down 1 second at a time to 0. Once it's 0 the character can abort and log out correctly. If a bandit / murder happens that field is set to 600. And counts down, only when it gets to 30 is it again effected by movement / shock bleeding etc. That data field could correlate to an icon on the right hand HUD along with blood etc which has an icon or a word indicating that you're "locked" in the game. It will disappear when the LogOut field has reached 0. There could even be another icon to indicate that you're "kill locked". for anything in the LogOut data field >30. As long as it's coded correctly and some mad ass bug / lag doesn't start fucking with the LogOut field making it 9239283 or some insane shit that system should be okay. -

I don't mean to sound rude, but I couldn't have a shit in 5 seconds. Gun fights will be at most 5 seconds long? There needs to be some tension of them actually escaping not just rounding a corner and clicking log. 30 seconds should be a minimum and 5 - 10 minutes after you've actually killed a player. Great job working on the mod and all and it's great you're moving in the right direction to stop such an enormous exploit in the game but still. -

I hope you start regulating who runs servers and if their hardware is capable of it. Because I regularly log in to servers to find that they are desynching like shit and log out to find one that isn't horrendous. Ping is absolutely 0 indication of how laggy and buggy a server will be. Or servers state their GMT / UTC time are totally incorrect. You're still going to have people logging out to avoid dying, they'll just go have a little break for 20 minutes and cook some hot pockets rather than loose their 1 week "full set"... This sounds like a micromanagement nightmare to be honest. You're short staffed as it is, who's going to look over 1/2 a million reports from people bullshitting to get off from their reputations and people who are genuinely being given crappy reputations by the hive being borked / joining one of the thousands of laggy ass servers. Don't get me wrong, it's awesome to see you doing something to stop Alt+F4 people because this totally undermines the hardcore aspect of dayz. But you're doing it in such a passive / easy to abuse / very easy to get false positive way which will result in players getting BANNED. I'd much rather people are stuck in game with a log in timer and die like they should than tens of thousands of people accidentally get banned forever... Edit: This fix really won't work. If someone's at the NW airfield in their super leet gear and they get shot at, they will just log out. You're not logging in and out in such situations. How could the hive possibly track that? Unless they bullet hits them or something? But even so... It's so open to people abusing its loopholes. He'll look like just a regular joe logging out for the day if a bullet hasn't actually hit him / caused shock and maybe he'll go for a little break. While many innocent people are going to end up getting bad reputations caused simply by laggy ass servers. -
Underestimation of Lee Enfield
[email protected] replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
People start this game using their primary weapons Vrs zombies -- Which is a mistake. So in a town vrs zombies, the Lee Enfield is a hilariously bad weapon which will keep a constant flow of zombies coming towards you. Your primary weapon should always be your PvP gun though and in that the Lee Enfield is a beast. It's slow and the iron sights are a bit clunky but it's mad accurate, long range, ammo isn't an issue, very powerful and at the very least will knock a target out.
