None of those people survived and he did. So I guess he's better at the survival game... -
Longest time you've stayed alive?
replied to Mays (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think I'm on 32 days now, 30+ at the least. Don't be greedy in looting all of your kills, if you do, wait a long time -- You've just fired a shot and alerted everyone in the area, possibly even their friends who may not have come in to view and are waiting. I usually use bodies as bait and you'd be amazed how many people turn up after 10 minutes. I've got all the gear I need anyway, so I'm just after ammo, food and drink. Capable of getting all that elsewhere... -
Tents NEED to change.
replied to 's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Certainly could, I don't know the tents current max capacity. but it should be enough to carry a few main weapons. Perhaps more in line with 60 slots? It would also reduce the "tent proliferation". Rocket seemed to want to reduce the amount of tents everywhere, well this hides everything. People wouldn't need to go hide their crap off the map because you could actually hide things a lot better. It was said earlier that you'd store things in tents in RL while walking off, but that is a temporary save -- You're considering that you'd go back to that tent in RL because you need to sleep in it. You'd be storing heavier things from your backpack there while going for a hike. You would not be "hiding" things there while you went off to do your thing, which is what the current mechanic of a tent is. -

I've browsed your link, I'm still failing to see where I'm not allowed to suggest that you to go play "dress up Barbie Rapunzel" if you're incapable of playing a game where you might die if your shoddy internet connection / broken PC dies. Also: "I'M A COMPUTER SCIENCE MAJOR" is a hilarious boast card for you to even think of pulling out. EXCUSE ME SIR ON THE INTERNET, I DO BELIEVE I WENT TO COLLEGE YOUR ARGUMENTS ARE INVALID. -
The 'I got shot, change the game' thread
replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
+1 The forum needs a clean up, just like the "it's too dark at night!" thread spam, so too the "I died this is so unfair people are angels in RL and would never shoot me! CHANGE THE GAME SO ITS EASIER FOR ME!" threads need to be merged into one mega thread where they can all spoon each other and dream of a PVE server where they get smiley face stickers just for taking part! -

My computer is actually pretty decent' date=' hand built with some mild overclocking and a good solid graphics card. Being someone who is a computer science major, I happen to understand what happens when you have a alpha-state software running on a beta-state of another piece of software. Pro-tip: it's not pretty. ITT: itputsthelotion making baseless assumptions. [/quote'] ITT: Wired makes some extremely flimsy excuses as to why he should still be allowed to Alt+F4 into safety. Alt+F4 out of this thread, you're a joke. Go play http://www.playfg.com/barbie-as-rapunzel-game.html if you're worried about your internet dropping or your PC crashing. Apparently any game with an element of risk is beyond you. -

First' date=' No. This isn't an MMO. your stats are persistent from server to server, but they are in battlefield and diablo 3 as well. They're not mmos though. MMO implies full persistence as well as a massive world. And again, You still get something back from eve. You have to go Out of your way to not be careful and lose everything in permanently in Eve. [hr'] Ah Ultima online. such a great game. However you over estimate the logout time in UO. Even before it got carebeared, campfires were a waste of time. The 15 minute timer was Tibia. The point also stands, PvP is so, so much better when there are things to loose. When people can't log off or run to their safe zone at the drop of a hat. Human emotions like fear, panic come into play -- you get a genuine adrenaline rush from pixels. It's fun... People like pvp for different reasons. If getting free kills because someone crashed at the wrong time gives you adrenaline, than you need to get checked. Nothing gets me off more than someone with a wooden PC being punished for being a cheapass. You're holding the rest of the world back. You're that WW1 commander being angry at the new school show offs with their fancy tanks and machine guns -- MY HORSES ARE BETTER. Get with the times and buy a PC that isn't beige. -

[hr'] I recommend you view my post a few before that one. No' date=' log out timer is NOT elegant, and AGAIN MMO STYLE MEASURES do not work for a MAJOR reason: In MMOs you don't lose everything after death. Even in Eve, you have insurance. [/quote'] Ultima online, tibia etc. Just because the recent batch of MMOs got all care bear, doesn't mean that oldschool MMOs were not hardcore to the max and didn't include lock down timers. 15 minutes you were locked down in some games after you killed a guy -- And guess what? It was justified, if you died you lost ALL your equipment and days of work. The PvP was intense and satisfying all the more because of it... It brought realistic emotions into the game which are all too lost in so many easy mode games these days. Ah Ultima online. such a great game. However you over estimate the logout time in UO. People DC, change server, move behind you, reconnect & kill you !!!
replied to white-rino's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It happens and it happens a lot. If for example you lock a group down, half will log out and relocate. You might have 2 guys stuck in a barn and be covering their exit, they could log out knowing where you are and log in behind you. A lot of servers don't even tell you when people log out now... It's ridiculous, it's worse than people logging to avoid death. I've sniped groups of people before and had survivors xlog only to log back in 10 minutes later where they "thought" I was. I've relocated anyway but it's still bullshit. -
Alt F4ing becoming absurdly prevalent
replied to thecrackmuffin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You need to have to wait 1 minute before you can disconnect (or your char stays in for 1 min if you alt+f4) or 10 minutes if you've killed a man. In an ideal world it would be 5 minutes if you fired at or were fired at and the bullets landed by a player within a 10m radius or something. But that could be exploited to find player locations... No excuses about RL obligations or shoddy internet connects should counter this. Those are a trivial irrelevance that are a minority of players problems -- It's your issue to fix, avoid or negate those problems. Game breaking exploits like xlogging in a battle however are a dev problem which effects tens of thousands of people. It would actually reduce a lot of killing too and if you're smart and cautious you can avoid running into most people anyway... -

It's amazing how these morons want to impose some useless system upon all of the humans playing this game so that they can be more "human" -- Get a clue, they're already being human. With no laws they can do what they want. What do they want to do? Kill you and take your shit -- What a shock, get over it and start hiding yourself better. -
It doesn't surprise me that none of you are able to make any friends and thus get some team work going. Who wants to be near someone who moans as hard as you useless fools? Someone who is incapable of staying alive and avoiding dangerous people? No one apparently, for good reason, so go and get shot in the face more. There's two types of people in the world: Victims and Victors. You moaners are my bean farm, just like you would be in real life if the world ended. We'd be the Mongols, the Vikings, the Victors and you'd be our Victims moaning about how it's so "unfair" while your village gets ravaged.

You can sit there and call it a "FFA deathmatch" all you want. Say it until your face turns colors and your lips go numb. Shout it from the hilltops. No amount of repeating it is going to make it true. No deathmatch game allows you to survive for hours' date=' let alone days, let alone weeks, let alone over a month. Learn to survive or get used to dying & crying. rocket is not going to show up on a fiery steed and rescue you like some kind of damsel in distress. Dry those tears, hike that diaper up and reload your weapon. You've got work to do. Nobody's going to do it for you. [/quote'] Never have truer words been said... -
