I don't think you understand how the loot respawn mechanic is in DayZ. Because if you find nothing but tin cans in a supermarket, you're not going to find anything but tin cans anywhere because whoever looted the place took all the good shit and it's not going to respawn until you remove all of the tin cans and throw them or put them outside. That's just how the game handles loot. It's not a case of "well, lol I'll stay here and farm this one spot for 20 hours!" -- It's a case of, If I don't put these tin cans outside and wait for the respawn then not a single person on this server will find anything but tin cans in here until a reboot. -

Perhaps if the way loot spawned wasn't so borked then people would not have to remove all of the loot and dump it outside. Running through a city and finding nothing but tin cans, chem lights and flares because people picked the better items up and it won't respawn unless the other shit is cleared is a little ludicrousness. -

It's a horror survival sandbox. They're more than apt. Also, .50's have their downfalls too. For starters, they're pretty rare -- You need to go to heli crash sites or the NW barracks. Secondly they make the most sound out of any gun in the game so zombies aggro to you from further away. The M107 has massive recoil, they're very very long which means you clip through walls and have a hard time hiding in bushes you also can't use them with NVG. I will agree that the extra range / power is a bigger benefit than those cons, but they are not "better in every way". Yes you can abuse that bug too to get unlimited ammo. The discussion came up because someone mentioned ammunition as an argument for / against M24's when as pointed out it's a little bit of a moot point. Well for starters, the helicopter crash sites depict other nation's special ops who crashed hence the western weaponry. Also NATO sold / donated a lot of weapons to former Warsaw pact countries in Eastern Europe. Seeing Eastern European armies with SAW's / M16's / M4's / Humvies / M113's / Barrets etc is not as uncommon as you'd imagine. This is 2012 not 1980. -

I was referring to the suggestion made earlier to "somehow buff the M24". I appreciate what you're saying but DMR magazines also fit into the M14 AIM which is a battle rifle and essentially could replace an assault rifle / perform the same roles more or less. That's 3x rifles that you're needing that ammo type for. Stanag magazines also fit into the SAW which is a light MG, as well as 100/200 round belts. They also fit into the L85, which is an assault rifle but with the thermal sight / scope and ability to zero out to 800m I would say is way more potent. I've even seen quite a few .50 magazines pottered about in hangers and the like. The only magazines you're ever really "wanting for" are the silly spawns that come out of crash sites or are only barracks specific such as the SVD / FAL / Bizon. There's no assault rifle / rifle that you're "totally flooded" with ammo for or "can't find shit anywhere". Which is kind of the way it should be. I'm rolling in ammo, but then I've been alive for over a month. Once he fixes the fact that you can't replenish magazines by logging out and back in there will be a lot less people going "lol easy to get ammo". Being able to Alt+F4 out of combat, or log out and back in to get refilled magazines are the main issues. From a dev standpoint those are what need fixing. When you start fiddling with other issues that these have caused then you'll just screw things up further. -

I find AKM / Stanag / DMR / AK74 mags at a pretty similar ratio personally. When you consider that each of those magazines can be used in multiple weapon types (with the exception of the AKM), then I don't really see a problem. You should be able to combine DMR magazines into a FAL magazine too. I'm yet to find a DMR in a millitary spawn location and I've been in airports near constantly, let alone a deer stand. Probably doesn't help that DMRs can spawn at heli crash sites too. I've always looted them off of people. -

The M24 can technically reach out further than the DMR, if it wasn't for people exploiting by disconnecting when they were shot then this thread would not exist. That being said, the DMR can be used with night vision. Can be used as a sniper rifle out to 800m and can hold its own up close very effectively especially if crosshairs are on. The ammo availability is a moot point as DMR magazines can be split to make M24 magazines and 4x M24 can be combined to make a DMR mag. They both fire the same cartridge, the difference being the M24 can be zero'd to 800m (or is it 1000m?) before you take into account the mil dot reticle which can be used to add further zeroing. The DMR only has the mildot reticle for its zeroing needs. The DMR however, being semi auto, can do a follow up 2nd shot to the body in order to kill someone possibly before they can disconnect if you did not get a head shot. The DMR is a bit more forgiving to less skilled snipers because you can fire semi auto if you miss your first shot. I prefer the DMR personally because I hunt people at night and daytime and I like that it can hold its own in close quarters. So as it stands with people disconnecting, the DMR would seem the better weapon. If the exploiting was fixed, the M24 would hold its rightful place as king. The spawning seems fine if you consider that the DMR is a squad issued marksman rifle whereas the M24 is a sniper issued rifle. No gamey "buffs" need to be added to the weapons, lets not bog this game down with arcade shit to "balance" -- Just fix the Alt+F4 bug that plagues the game. -

I edited that in before you even posted, but yes I am well aware of bullet drop. The bullet does not perform as well -- as I said before -- That includes damage and bullet drop. You can 1 hit kill someone out beyond the "effective range" via head shots / zeroing / reticle based zeroing / guestimating how high to aim. Or 2 or 3 or 4 shot body kill someone out well past your "effective range". No it doesn't just fall on the floor once it reaches 400m, it starts a slow trajectory down into the ground though. This can be countered by "zeroing" which effectively makes you aim the barrel a bit higher so that the bullet will still hit the target at x distance despite bullet drop. -
M14 Sniper Rifle and Bear Traps

The M14 AIM and the DMR are based off of the same rifle... The M14 "battle rifle", it's what nations used (like the FAL "battle rifle") before they all went onto assault rifles (such as the M16, SA80, AK74, Galil etc). Basically it fires a much more powerful cartridge which would otherwise have been used in a semi automatic / bolt action rifle / machine gun except the rifles can also do full auto but have high recoil because of the larger round. This was the transition gun type after WW2 through the cold war era. They're mad powerful and accurate out far but heavy, high recoil and ammo wasters in full auto at anything but the closest range -- Which is why a lot ended up being locked at semi auto or burst fire for armies (the ones in DayZ). The AKM is actually an assault rifle, however it uses a much more powerful round than the western 5.56 and thus can shoot out longer, does more damage but also has higher recoil... It's sort of between a rifle and a western assault rifle in that regard but it falls in line with the abilities of the other hard hitting rifles in Dayz. In game terms, it means the M14 AIM / Lee Enfield / FN Fal / AKM are capable of reaching out to the same ranges as a sniper rifle, but you are limited by their lack of scope -- So you'll be pixel sniping and having to deal with their iron sights (which can be blocky). This is where the AIM comes out a little better as a red dot is a bit easier to aim with than regular iron sights. None of these should be classed as "sniper rifles" / "Marksman rifles" in that they do not have the ability to zoom in via a scope and so you are trumped by anyone who has a scope and thus can see and fire at you more accurately. Not to mention that the PSO / mildot reticle can be used as a range finder and as a zeroing device -- A lot of the "sniper rifles" can use page up/down to manually zero as well, only the AKM can do this. Sure you can kill someone who has a scope when you don't, but he had the upperhand over you at long range and it was your skill / luck / his lack of skill / lag / bad situation which made the difference. All of that "effective range" shit just means when the bullet no longer performs to its best ability. Aka if a gun would kill someone in 1 hit, when it stops doing that and requires 2 hits, the bullet drops more too. Every sniper rifle with the exception of the .50 cal AS50 and M107 will require 2 body hits at what most people would class as "sniper ranges", past 300 - 500m -- Unless you get a head shot.The benefit of the M14 aim / DMR / SVD / FAL / AKM as rifles is that while they need 2 body hits at those ranges, they are semi automatic and thus you can get 2x shots down range in quick time if you're unable to do 1x clean head shot. All of that aside, keep the CZ (Or better yet, the DMR) if you want to "snipe" or "counter snipe". The M14 AIM is a fine weapon at close or medium ranges with the ability to reach out really far with some skill / luck, but it is a pure PvP weapon as it's loud as the sniper rifles and thus will lure a hoard of zombies at close / medium ranges. It should be being used as a replacement for your assault rifle, not a supplement to it as you seem to want from a 2nd primary "sniper rifle". The benefit it has is it's accuracy and it is crazy powerful so your target stays the fuck dead when you shoot him, especially with armas sketchy netcode / some laggy servers / version 1.7.2's issues with desynching. You're looking at pumping more rounds into people than you should have to. If you're shooting an AK74 at close range for example you might need to empty a half a magazine... If the guy shooting back has an M14 aim and shoots as you do, he will probably win. While it's locked at semi automatic mode, you can click it crazy fast and keep up with any full auto weapon out there. With regards to bear traps: I'm yet to see one in game and have also been looking hard -- I've read they spawn in grocery stores. That being said they were coded in at 1.7.2 as this guy managed to play with them in single player: They seem extremely buggy in that they can effectively be duped and left as a perpetually set invisible trap. Their placement is also buggy as hell being either non existent or in mid air in some places. From what I understand though they can only break legs, not kill you... But if you were crawling over it, who knows. There are also assault rifles which have silencers such as the M4 SD. Then of course there could well be other hacked in silenced weapons. That being said if someone shoots you from very far away, the bullet will hit you before you hear the gun going off or the sonic crack because of how slow sound travels. It could be that someone shot you with a 50 cal with a thermal scope (these were legit before rocket removed their spawn and a few bounce around) or a DMR with night vision and your face and brains are currently spread over the tarmac. -

Have bear traps been fixed? They're buggy as hell and can be left "on" forever, while invisible and duplicating... <--- look at the bear traps being duped and made invisible simply by "deactivating and picking it up" -- He was able to walk over that spot with the invisible trap and every time it broke his leg, as in it's there forever This seems like something that maybe would have been tested 5 minutes after it was coded -- Maybe it works differently in single player? I doubt it... -
There should be an "easy mode" and a "normal mode". If you click "normal", it loads into the current game. If you click "easy" it uninstalls the game and voids your CD key.

It pains me that you're trying to be nice and all as you seem to not have a clue. My "ping" on most servers ranges from 10 - 100, averaging at 30. I can join servers in the US, UK or the rest of Europe just fine. At the moment a good 90% desynch. Maybe you don't play in a group, or maybe you haven't tried 1.7.2? But it's a huge issue at the moment. I've got an i7 -- Arma is processor intensive, 20 mb internet in the UK. The problem is not the users. Do you know how much bandwidth a dayz server sucks up per month? Do you know how much higher that went at the 1.7.2 patch? It's unoptimized as fuck. Not to mention any old fool can put up a server and fill in a form to get white listed. There is 0 regulation on people running high slot servers beyond their spec abilities. Arma II (and dayz consequently) have horrendous net code and it seems to be getting worse... And you people are going "hay guyz, did you know there's a ping filter?" LOL -

Just to say, the decision to run test servers for pending updates is smart. It is an Alpha and thus we are all testers, but it's one with a quarter mil people and every patch to date has broken something which could have been seen from a bit extra testing. So good job and keep it up Dev team! -
Got a screen shot or video of them placed? How does it work? What's the radius? Can you disarm it? If it kills a rabbit will the damn thing de-spawn before you could reasonably wonder back there to loot things? Is it pretty blatantly visible? Can you set it in buildings or under the floor? Is it reusable? Is it server persistent? Can you put shit on top of it like a juicy backpack? What kind of damage does it do? Is it always a leg breaker or does it depend what body part touches it? ...Or what's it called in the armoury? Since 1.7.2 seemed to fuck up the armoury sorting system.

It really would be better to fix glitches and bugs with zombies that make them annoying before making them harder to kill. I think people would be alt+f4ing away from zombies a whole lot less if they didn't glitch through walls, all run the same speed, all zig zag and teleport like crazy...

Who's pretending what now? I'm saying that this gun was the Anti-sniper weapon of choice. You had the chance to see them before they can get the drop on you. Balance. Sorry I didn't realize snipers were not allowed to use them also, because you know something can't be "anti-sniper" if its also a very useful tool for the snipers. This. The whole "anti-sniper argument" makes no sense whatsoever. I pity the devs if they actually are reading all these posts. The amount of stupidity makes my head hurt. Seriously. And people saying it's "anti bandit", are you trolling? Want to know what it's "anti"? -- It's fucking Anti-People, that's it. It's a powerful weapon for spotting people that can be used by anyone to totally trump anyone else who doesn't have one -- Spotting people up to 4km away. Anyone claiming that the game is broken and they can't possibly counter snipers without their easy mode thermal scope is a moron. I'm not petitioning for its removal, but don't be moaning hard that you can't crutch on it temporarily. -
