This could be easily achievable in DayZ. You guys know how there's the "Group" communications channel? Well, in ArmA 2 this is for "Groups" of people on one "Side" (Blufor/Opfor/Guerrilla/Civilian). In DayZ group channel does nothing because, as you see in the lobby, every character is a group leader / in their own group (That's what the 1-1-2-F, or whatever is next to your name on side channel, your group name). There is an ArmA 2 MP Mission type called "Domination" in which you play with people on Blufor, and you start in your own group... but later can decide to join groups seperately. In Domination this is accessed with a menu. In DayZ would be more realistic to have to find the person in the world first and get a one-time Action-Menu option (scrollwheel menu) to "Invite Contact" or something. This could also create a useful purpose for the "Radio" item (Toolbelt item from ArmA2). And if possible, rename the 1-1-2-F or whatever to a frequency, unique per group. Also, one time when playing team vs team in ArmA, a friend and I were sneaking up on the enemy hiding behind a wall, when all of a sudden we heard some guy talking quietly... than it got louder.. and we could hear someone talking back.. a bit quieter. The guy ended up coming right up to the wall we were against, on the other side... we realized after a minute or two, we were listening him talk on group channel over the radio... :o Do you realize, how awesome it would be in dayz, to steal intel from another group in the server you play in by sneaking up on them and listening in!!! True recon, in a crazy crazy world. I hope this does get implimented, cause honestly it's kind of cheap being in teamspeak and no-one being able to know how we work, ever. Thanks for reading, and thanks for the original concept :)

Hello... RGB Fourty7 here. I don't like being called a hacker, or having someone talk about our friend's server this way. Here's a video of how we play. I would not want to play with hacked/cheated/spawned/cloned gear. I think that is pathetic, I am a game dev and want to see games played the way the dev's want them... I mostly use an AKM because it's my favourite weapon in arma. Been playing Arma2 for four years, check my steam account... http://steamcommunity.com/id/Elation-Station/games/?tab=all Also, I don't accuse you of hacking, because you aren't very good at killing people (We stopped a helicopter 5 feet from you and I told you to get in and you shot me with your m4 lmfao, only down to 9000 blood), but you did have 3 g36 subsonic magazines on your body, which is not in the game, and we definately don't have (The only gun I use in arma without dayz is g36cSD, check any of my other youtube vids lmfao). This is how much I hate the hacking in dayz, and what my opinion is on it... If you think we "Spawn vehicles" because we always have a chopper, geuss what, I know how to fly. That's why we don't need to "Spawn vehicles", because we don't loose them. Didn't even loose it to you when we didn't shoot until you shot me (Pilot). Yes we shot your boat down, but that was after we told you to stop and you tried to ram the chopper. Anyway's, I hope you actually read this without raging because I don't know why you think we do anything you are accusing. Thanks bye.

Hacking spike recently, in particular "Thunderdome"...
fourty7 posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hey again guys... Seems I come here on a sad note again. In one server today, this happened five times. It happened once yesterday. Here is a video of what I did with their weapons crates hours after logging off from hearing about a player using teleport hacks on teamspeak. Also it seems the crates are variable? The ones we saw had 200 or 20 of every item/weapon in DayZ, and nothing that wasn't a 'legit item'. (Sorry video got screwed after multiple edits and conversions)I noticed a while ago (I posted a video before, over a month ago) that part of the hack changes the MOTD of the server, including a link (Which I originally thought was fake). I do not want to post the link here because of how much attention it seems to have gotten already. Trying to help figure a way to prevent or disable this from happening, I decided to type the MOTD link into google... The description of the website explained that it was arma 2 hacks and ***s. Today the first attack happened early in the morning, and... To me, it felt kind of too coincidental that it happened 5 times again (player(s) banned each time). Kind of seems like their MOTD is getting some attention. Personally, I don't agree with fighting back I believe solutions are by creating an answer not destroying a problem, BUT; an undisclosed entity is attacking dayz via DDoS, and more. If anyone has the bots or resources out there to DDoS the site that's hosting these hacks/cheats, please, I think I speak for the community when I say, "We'd would absolutely love you." DDoS is only temporary though. If possible, get dirty to take it down, it's not like they haven't done the same. I recently read something saying along the lines of... "The hacking is getting overwhelming, and players are resulting to using hacks just to have fair game".. Kind of disgusting, and I don't think it will come to that. There is a solution to this, but it would require people to actually care... After the 5th time of this happening today (Was there for every one, but we logged out every time as we were teleported), I decided to go back into the server and (attempt) to reason with the actual players. When this script is used, players should realize that everyone in that area (Thunderdome) are no longer enemies... You need to work together. Step 1: Don't fight each other, and don't fight back. There's nothing you can do, and you have nothing to loose at this point. Doing nothing will possibly demotivate hackers. Step 2: Attempt to initiate conversation with the person using hacks without an offensive attitude (Most likely rare you'll get one to talk to you, let alone find them). Step 3: Help cleanup after they're done. Be understanding to others and if you spawn where thunderdome was or you were teleported with others, don't kill each other. I have very strong feelings about all this stuff, having seen real cared for things destroyed by making the community devide and fight itself. We can't let it happen to DayZ. This mod (Or to be game) has the potential to change the eyes of gamers. The ammount of people I know who buy it just cause they hear about it, would never have handled arma2, get to learn it just from the experience it presents. The popularity it's attracted in such a short time at alpha stage, and potential the general concept has, in my opinion has game companies scared. Do some reasearch and you'll figure it out. 946,062 (Current unique dayz players) $30 (Price of ArmA 2 Combined Ops) $28,381,860 (Highest possible net income with current players) It's not just money, in my opinion it's more the idea of average gamers accustomizing to a game like ArmA with Realism and made by a media-deprived and foreign company. I really wanted to refrain from saying this on here, because I mean no offense to rocket or any of the dayZ team, and I hope if you strongly disagree or I am wrong that you forgive my insane theorizing... The first time I saw a ***er, or hive got laggy, the first thing I said to my friends on the game was that it's probably some game company scared shitless. I think I was on the right track, but in the wrong direction. I think this was made possible by someone making something similar. Their goal is nothing but a delay, and the community has to realize, even though we might shoot each other in the face for beans every other day, we have to know when to stick together, weather in a server, on the forums, or however you deal with this bullshit. P.S. Thanks for giving a shit, sorry I talk so damn much. ;) -

I know it's unrelated, I couldnt post a new thread in this topic, and I figured it would be unread elsewhere ;( -
DayZ Maintenance ~ Should be functional again
fourty7 replied to Vipeax's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Sorry to not have introduced myself yet, but time's are tough, and beans are not abundant at the moment. I've been playing DayZ for about a month and a half, and ArmA for 3-4 years, and have a thorough understanding of how "Lag" effects the game. As different as it is with a relay (HIVE) server. So 2 days ago was the first 'serious' DDoS on HIVE I've experienced... When I say serious, I mean like, the majority of the day. When it happened then, it was constant; The HIVE Server went down (Or desynced due to DDoS) and did not come back up until it was fixed. Today it seemed to have a toggle, possibly an attempt at being less-traceable, or possibly changing the IP / LAN the Bot-Host computer was running from in between. Average 3-15 minute attack waves with short breaks in between. The following is all theory, so don't get me wrong I'm not saying this is what is true, but I've seen this happen many times to communities, especially mods that get popular. I didn't even hear about this, but apparently this happened one month ago... http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/117838-DayZ-Servers-Hacked It's highly possible that this 'virus' contained the bot application/process that is being used to attack the DayZ Hive server right now... And if that's true, then that means a good majority of the bots being used to attack are actual DayZ players... The delay makes that questionable, but they may have required the initial hack for information of weaknesses in HIVE and made their fixes in the meantime. It seems the majority of the leads go to this person going by the name of "Green Arrow". His Hack-Forums Posts (Focus on "Port Question") http://www.hackforums.net/search.php?action=results&sid=399c0562c5b55ebd6e911f9a88c80f8a His Steam Account (Not garaunteed but quite obvious) http://steamcommunity.com/id/greenarrew (Already previously said in various threads on DayZ forums) His posts on HackForums show that he stole a laptop (A good hacker uses a laptop never used by them before, on stolen internet, to be completely untraceable), got help unlocking it (Most people seemed to despise the theft in the first place), and has been learning to hack over the past few years. One person goes on to post the following, and has green credibility on the HackForums along with 59 posts prior... "your an annoying little fuck why would you ddos DayZ, a free mod, are you just butthurt that you were banned for cheating in a game? Fucking script kiddy claiming to be a hacker on twitter and official forums, i actually lolled" -jimmyxtreme So it seems they know something others don't. I also had read (I think on DayZ forums) that the IP he posted on the HackForums on was from Ontario, Canada. Could be a mask, but most likely not, if this info is even credible in the first place. Also everyone on hack forums seems to completely hate him now, and not for the DayZ thing, seems to be because he's just a terrible person in general. Although this "Green Arrow" character could just be someone trying to make a name for themsleves with others work, but they seem to have no trouble hacking people's steam accounts so it may not be a bluff. Although I felt the level of DDoS on DayZ has seemed more... Corporate level. Although everything (HIVE:Attackers ISP's limits, # of bots attacking, ammount of credible connections to hive, etc.) is variable, so until everyone helps figure out who this is and destroy their ability to access the internet we will never, and may never know the truth. (Not important / complete assumption) I personally think that the popularity of DayZ made some game company scared. I bought ArmA 2 when it was released, and the OFP/ArmA series has always been shunned by online media, although it is a whole game (Sim) style that no other companies have produced... There are, but they are just arcade jokes. DayZ created a community of 1/10th of a million people before even reaching beta stage (Congrats, seriously.).. Which is unheard of, and they know that a good chunk of those people were playing their games. This game is more fun than and larger than MMO's, and people have no problem spending absurd ammounts of time on it, without having stat points to increase etc. It's a new game theory, one that will (And has) be caught on quick and loved. The worst part... Everyone asks "Why would anyone DDoS DayZ". If it's not someone who was banned (Green Arrow?), and I never thought it was... As you know, A few popular MMO's have more than a million players. Most of them cost more than $10/month (Product price is insignificant). So, do the math on this.. 1,000,000 x $10 = $10,000,000 / month. Even if you have to pay a million dollars of that to your staff and server costs... That's 9 million a month profit. And they are way greedier than that, it's depressing. As we all know, greedy people don't stop. There never is that point where they feel they've had "Enough", so they get everything they can, and stop anything that will prevent them from doing that. Especially when they have the resources (Money, Servers, Connections, Etc.) to control a majority of the internet. On a better note, a few people I know said they are attempting to hunt them down and counter attack in any way possible, or destroy the attackers resources if possible... I don't think they'll find him, if he actually knows what he's doing they wont find a trace, but if he is as noob as he seems to be on those HackForums, it's only a matter of time before somebody gets this bastard. Sorry for the book, thank you for reading, I'll be around. P.S. If you don't like what's going on, offer to help, or have some patience. Complaining, requesting responses etc, will only delay anything being fixed.
