  1. I doubt you'll be referencing that though because it's not in line with your opinions.

    Oh, you might be surprised, but one-and-a-half months before the release (Rocket stated that standalone should be released before the end of 2012, right?) I'd expect not some under-rendered game design mockup screenshots, but some gameplay trailer.

    From another point of view, if I'm not mistaken, it was stated that mod and standalone will go side-by side, with new features implemented into a mod first, to use it as a testbed. I was away for a month or so, and played DayZ again yesterday. And what do I see? Graphical glitches with barbwires (or whatever else is causing them) are not fixed. Cheaters are still in the game. Ammo still replenishes. There was something about adding dogs to the game, was it? Is it? And zombies still stop before attack. And you can't switch primary/secondary weapon on the run. And you can't use DMR 7.62 NATO round with FNFAL. And character can't jump. And now vehicle repairs won't work! Developers tweak gameplay, you say?.. This is all fine with a indie mod, bot not for a game released by BI in 2012!

    I will get tired repeating myself, but I LOVE DAYZ MOD! Current water/grass/etc. graphics are GOOD for MOD. Good for a mod that was made for a few-years old game. BUT NOT FOR the end-of 2012 game!!! Especially with all the glitches mod still has.


  2. The images you have linked to were released to show some of the new interior modelling BEFORE any additional artwork/atmosphere/textures have been added. It clearly says that in the Tumblre dev post that you keep quoting from. If you're going to keep using these sources please quote correctly because I don't have time to keep correcting you.

    "Whatever you say it is, it isn’t" says Rocket, but he doesn't really elaborate on what it really is.

    Sure, more server-side processing means much less vulnerability to hacking; probably much better performance as-well (if properly optimized). But what does it mean for casual players? Should I bother how in-game mechanics are handled? I don't think so.

    In my last post I tried to share my opinion, on what I've seen published so far - that is few DayZ standalone screen-shots with some buildings and interior. Forgive me, but those screen-shots reminded me all square-shaped meshes and plain textures of HalfLife1 era, when home/gaming PCs were relatively weak, and it WAS the best game industry was able to offer (top home-PC CPU available would be something like 400MHZ Pentium2, normally would have 32MB-64MB RAM, and I believe 128MB was MAX installable RAM with those CPU). And now looks on that TV, furniture, doors etc...

    It looks pretty simple, plain and NOT impressive.

    As soon as I posted this opinion, my post was graved, and DayZ forum team members called me a troll, and started trolling me back! :)

    Troll. With that amount of wrongness in one thread it simply has to be a troll.

    Also, OP - It's not sticking to the Arma 2 OA engine.

    read up a bit on modelling before complaining "plain cube meshes and rectangular textures"

    that doesn't mean it's using the ArmA 2 engine.

    Well, I admit I don't develop games myself, and I'm no 3D designer :) Should every gamer be? Interesting opinion...

    Let's learn what engine DayZ standalone is using, shall we? :)

    Wikipedia says that DayZ standalone will be built using Real Virtuality 3 engine. And it is engine used for....

    So it IS ArmA2 engine, right?

    I guess all those pro 3D modellers from DayZ mod forum team are just confusing engine with architecture :) DayZ standalone will have hugely changed and optimized architecture of ArmA2. It won't let gamers to modify game-world as freely as ArmA2 does (you remember all those hacker-spawned vehicles and weapons, teleporting and killing players, nuking whole servers etc.). And this is a time to let them know that architecture is not equal to engine.

    Now, to me, it looks like DayZ standalone will have same graphics as ArmA2/Arma2:OA. Which, actually, was a point of my original post :)

    Actually, I sincerely hope that I'm wrong here, and DayZ standalone will have new/reworked shaders, meshes, textures, trees&grass, water, animation, physics etc. I really don't think Bohemia Interactive wants to release in the end of year 2012 a game that looks like a game from 1998, and DayZ standalone doesn't deserve to look like a game from 1998. I will really appreciate if anyone can post screenshots of new, better graphics in DayZ standalone.

  4. Не мог никуда зайти - сидел с чёрным экраном и дебаг-монитором.

    Почитал комменты Рокета что это из-за перегруженного Хайва происходит. Попробовал зайти на тот-же сервер, но в офф-пик (когда народу меньше всего) - отреспился на берегу без вещей. Ну, хоть живой, и бегаю :)


  5. I always thought that "Day Z" is opposite to something like "Day A", and is the last day. Some players will get more than one day in this game, but last time I've checked, average life expectancy was just a bit over 1 hour. And when you die - end of story. Basically, game starts with the beginning of the last day of your life.

    p.s. This brings up a very popular philosophical question "what would you do, if you knew you have one last day to live". Surprisingly, many of people turn into maniacs, killing each other on sight...

  6. Well, at 1.2 million copies sold just for Dayz

    As far as I remember, DayZ had over 1KK unique players. Not "over 1KK of Arma2 CO purchases after DayZ mod release". I mean A LOT of DayZ players are ArmA2 fans long before DayZ itself.

    Does anyone know actual sales figures for ArmA OA and ArmA CO for:

    3 month sales before DayZ release;

    3 month sales after DayZ release;

    2nd 3 month sales after DayZ release.

    If DayZ indeed brought BI at-least extra $5000000, then I'd expect some 10 developers, 3 testers, 2 support staff in DayZ team. Just because it's obvious that at-least all who bought ArmA OA or CO just for DayZ mod, will gladly spend same money on DayZ standalone IF IT COMES FIRST. Or do they think that "WarZ" is the only one who jumped into rushed zombie-survival-MMO?

  7. I was killed 2 times in 20 minutes :D

    1) I was riding a bicycle ~2KM away from the map border in the wilderness. Suddenly a guy appears in front of me ~50m and kills me.

    2) Spawned on a beach straight away, found some dead body in 50m with DMR+AK47+AlicePack+NVG+GPS etc. Looted him and went to Skalisty Island direction. A guy spawns 100 meters away, with no weapon, coyote patrol pack etc. I take DMR. Next moment he puts a Soldier clothings on, takes assault rifle and I realize he might be a same cheater I've met 5 minutes ago, so I decide to kill him. I've hit him once, he started running, I shoot him 4 more times with at-least 1 more confirmed hit. He bleeds heavily while running into bushes. I start shooting zombies, guy spawns next to me and kills me :D

  8. seeing as the last three ive fixed were then kidnapped by hackers... fuck no i dont have time for it anymore

    Me and my friends were fixing a chopper for like two hours, started filling if with a fuel and got like 20% tank filled when server restarted. Guess what? Chopper is back to fully broken and we'd have to start all over! To hell with it, I've blown it up with a satchel.

    Your helicopters, probably, were not stolen. They despawned in the same same way as ours.


  9. Just be happy that DayZ won't come as an add-on to ArmA3. ArmA3 preorder (discounted!) price in Sweden is something like 75USD (€60). So by paying $30 you get a game on same engine as ArmA3, but with your favourite (at least this is my favourite) genre, and with more than 50% discount.

    From another point of view I see an ArmA2+OA+DayZmod as a "DayZ 1". Standalone DayZ is like "DayZ 2".

    "DayZ 1" was ~$30 (hugely overpriced with graphics it has, bugs and cheaters, BUT THERE IS NO ALTERNATIVE GAME TO CHOOSE FROM!), and many original ArmA2+OA fans got it for free :)

    If "DayZ 2" will be sold at ~$30 (hopefully with much less bugs, good anti-cheat protection and, obviously, much better graphics and PhysX) - great deal!

    I've never had any "illegal" weapon :D Not even AS50 TWS, which is legal.

    The weapon is not in the loot table, so its not dayz loot, whatever you think is legit it and many other things scripted in are not.

    Are you trying to be a fat troll or are you just illiterate and can't read? AS50 TWS IS A WEAPON THAT WAS SPAWNING IN DAYZ ONCE AND IT IS STILL LEGIMATELY FOUND ON A MAP. It was never removed from inventory, back-packs, tents, cars etc. So some of them are owned till now.
