    1.7.2 camo clothing BUG

Going to make a new thread for my issue but it pertains to this one too. Finally got into a server after trying to get through the waiting for character to create issue, in 3rd person I'm invisible, nothing at all when I'm in camo. In 1st person I can see the shadow of my AKM floating around. I haven't logged on with a friend yet so I can't tell if other people can see me. I'm hesitant to switch clothes after reading this thread. Also I have PMC (don't think it matters though as my camo outfit always seemed low-res). Still have all my gear though.

My first impression and the conclusion

Shoot em all down. Let god sort em out. If I spot a player and they don't see me I typically will hide, and I may shadow them for a while. If I see a player with no visible weapons, I don't shoot, I salute. If they don't speak or type in direct chat I give a brief "hit , or . til it says direct. Hit caps lock to voicechat, / to type". 9/10 people I met in spawn areas with no weapons had no clue how to reply to what I was saying. If they follow me around I let them take weapons first, this has never resulted in a death (I usually just say "you bust a cap in my ass and I'll be back in 5 minutes to return the favor") If there are a TON of zombies around and I'm spotted by a player who is armed (especially high traffic/loot zones) I zig zag QUICKLY, I let them get the zombie agro by taking the first shot. It gives you time to get out of sight. From a safe place you can watch what happens, if they get eaten you can loot them. If they take out the zombies, cap em while they get their bearings (they shot first right?). If you play at night (I think it's a ton of fun) and you spot other players you can use "scare tactics" to elicit reactions. If you throw a flare in their direction, not only will you startle the hell out of them, you will draw zombies to their position. Smoke grenades can be useful for this too. If you are feeling mean spirited (please don't!) you can use light sources as bait for players. Go along a road, set up a firepit in the trees and stock it with wood, light it and go to a good vantage point. Many times players who spot this will think they can sneak up on you cooking meat, which leaves them vulnerable (I swear I have never done this, as it is cruel). I sort of got off topic there. Basically you gotta be smart and fast: -High awareness is a necessity (location, zeds, sounds, movement, lights, escape routes) -Typing in direct will get you killed unless the person you see has no weapon. -People with worse gear AND better gear than you won't hesitate to kill you. -People with worse want your stuff. -People with better want to keep their stuff. -You dont HAVE to shoot on sight if you aren't spotted its a risk/reward/moral decision. -Shooting people with no weapon is a dick move, you already have a flashlight. -Tactics and timing will let you bring down someone with a FAL, M4, even a .50 using just a makarov ( the last one is a bit tough :) ) That's about all I got. Death is a part of the game, it's how you get better. Never get attached to your things. Learn the layouts of the major areas. Read up on the forums, wiki, tutorial vids. You will get better. Everytime I get into an engagement, any time I kill a player, any time I am close to death, this game gives me a huge rush of adrenaline, I can feel my heart pound in my chest. It has been a VERY long time since a game has done that to me (maybe RE1 or Clock Tower?) Anyway cheers, And don't shoot me...

    How is this fun?

I really hate to try and appease someone who complains about the ramifications of impulsive actions... Buuuuuuut I guess this will make the game more "fun" for you. If you are running steam: - double tap shift so that you are in walk mode. - point your decked out survivor towards your marked waypoint (thats shift left click on the map JIC) - begin walking forward (the default key is "W") - while holding "W" bring up the steam overlay by hitting shift+tab (did you know you can use the steam browser to always have a dayZ map or wiki up for easy reference?! How convenient!) - when the overlay comes up let go of the keys, your character will be running in the background! - if you decide you want to actively observe the game while auto-running click "return to game" at the top of the overlay (personally I like to turn on auto-run and then go troll the forums.) - you can now steer yourself and even look around (the look action is bound to the "alt" key!) - if you wish to bring your unstoppable warrior to a halt to get the loots, simply press "/" and hit enter (pro tip: "/" is also the key that brings up the chat bar) If you followed these steps correctly DayZ becomes much more "fun" and "entertaining". Using this method you can also forego paying attention to your surroundings to grab a bag of cheetos, light a cigar, catch up on that last season of Friends you never saw, or even call and check in on friends and family!* *character deaths related to the "steam overlay auto-run technique for gamer convenience" are SOLELY the responsibility of the player. Failure to pay attention to your surroundings in DayZ WILL result in player death (this rule applies to real life as well, go figure!) :)

    Zomb... uhm... Priest Invasion?

Friends season 9, does that make the apocalypse better?

Servers without friendly fire, aka pvp killing

To me getting initial weapons and basic gear (like being able to cook meat, map, water bottle) is sort of like leveling up and even though other players can be a threat, the zombies tend to be much more dangerous. Once you have good equipment and start trying to loot higher quality spawn areas, the zombies aren't a problem the other players going for that stuff are. To me that's more like the endgame content. If you take out PVP whats the point of getting anything better than an Enfield or CZ, most things kill zombies in 1 shot. Plus zombies aren't smart, even if their AI and pathfinding get better they are still supposed to be dumb. Players are a challenge, they hide, they follow you, they steal things out of your pack when you are busy looking through your binoculars. It's the "most dangerous game". If you take that out there is really not much of a point to playing, it turns into a camping in the woods sim, you can shoot rabbits and cows... yay

    Shoot on site solution...

I like your idea Jugg, and people who dont like a mechanic like that it could easily be turned off for a higher difficulty setting (I.E. No crosshair). Honestly I would just be happy if there were some sort of group mechanic that just put some sort of identifying mark on your party members, even if it were really subtle. FF can stay on for all I care, I just hate meeting up with a friend who just spawned and talking on TS and saying ME:"Is that you in the field?" Friend:"Yeah." *Bang* [You Are Dead] Friend:"I don't see you, I'm in the field with the antenna, I just heard a gunshot kinda far away though"

    Screw this game

Lol like how you make a post about the game not working, and then 2 posts about how you are quitting instead of reading virtually any other post or the announcements. Heck if you launch your game from steam there is even an article from PC gamer in the news section talking about the server problems.

    Guns

If you found a shotgun, and started to see you were running low on shells, that should have been your priority. Hit any of the big farms and there is a good chance you will find shells AND a hatchet. If you wait to run out of ammo before you go look for more then starting with a gun won't help you much.

Swapping backpack makes one disappear in 94364

Usually to play it safe I open the new pack on the ground, put all of my items from my old pack into the one on the ground and then take it. That way if my old one disappears all my stuff is still on the new one on the ground. Only time it has really been a pain is if im trying to give a friend my old empty pack and it disappears (either from drop or swap). Using this method though I havent lost anything from getting a new pack.

The Saddest Death in DayZ History

I just got thrown up a thousand feet in the air by a hacker with everybody else on the server and watched the text of "So-and-so has been killed" scroll across the side of the screen.

    Hackers on US 38

Yup was there, playing with a friend from across the country who just got the game. Never played on this server, picked it because we both had good latency. Played for an hour and this happened. I had almost 2 weeks on this guy, my friend had been playing for a couple hours, and he was discouraged and thought stuff happened like this a lot... It would suck to lose the only person I know personally that will play with me due to this jerkoff.
