Standalone only: Ruger 10/22, .22lr "bricks" and Backpack with rifle scabbard
slonlo posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
So I know in a "real" zombie apocalypse, the first thing I'm doing is grabbing my Eberlestock X3, stuffing my Rem 700 in the scabbard, putting my Glock 36 on my hip, my S&W 640 in my bag along with a couple boxes of .45 ACP, a couple of .357, whatever .308 I have loaded at the time. But most of all, I'll have my 10/22 on my shoulder, with at LEAST 3 500 round bricks in my pack. That's what we need for the standalone. The .22lr cartridge is THE zombie dispatcher of choice, and it's absence in DayZ needs to be rectified! It's the most abundant round in the world... we gotta have it. The reason I say only for the standalone is that I think it should be implemented with the new ammo system Rocket mentioned. You maybe find a rifle with one mag in it, be it a 10 or 25 rounder. Then in the grocery store you find a brick or two of .22LR. One can EASILY carry 1000 rounds of .22LR without slowing him down. But the caveat to having all that ammo is maybe that rifle you found only has the 10 round rotary mag in it. So you have to reload that mag after every 10 rounds, reducing the quantity in the brick. From what I understand this is Rocket's plan eventually anyway. But it should be basically useless unless you score a head shot, and still not necessarily instantly lethal on a player even then. It would be like a less powerful Mak PM with more range and more accuracy. Have the ability to add a scope to it, red dot sight, whatever you wish. Maybe even have the take-down version (<-pic) in the game so you can put it in your pack and it will only take up 5 spots (but it take s a few moments to assemble). As far as the backpack, I'd like to see one with a rifle scabbard like the aforementioned Eberlestock X3. Have the ability to place a rifle in the pack, without taking up other spots (but not be able to put anything else in there). Have it with 20 spots, maybe 18, but a spot for a rifle. Then remove the ability to put a full sized rifle in a backpack. Maybe a carbine or the take-down 10/22, or even a 16" barrel folding stock bolt action .308 precision rifle, but you shouldn't be able to put an M107 in the ALICE pack. -

I agree with that. Have a small, medium, and large backpack with a rifle scabbard. Like the smallest be a scabbard alone with some MOLLE pouches attached (so like 5 slots only) and so on. Oh, and speaking of MOLLE attachments. I'd like to see that too. Be able to connect MOLLE pouches, maybe a CamelBack or mag pouches, etc. And maybe a more common sense type loading, where cumbersome things take up space differently, like in Resident Evil 4. Tiercel... how 'bout this bad boy? I want one of their integrally suppressed barrels for my 10/22. But this Savage is SEXY!! A squirrel's worst nightmare. It bleeds gasses early up the barrel to slow supersonic rounds to subsonic, so no need for expensive subsonic target ammo (same for the 10/22 barrel). 10/22 is a little louder because of the action cycling. -
My mistake, I wasn't clear. I meant tents as "loot." Packed up, spawned at what seemed to be a higher rate than normal. Again this may have just been coincidence, as I don't even know if it's possible to globally increase the rate of a certain item like on demand. I'm sorry I confused you. And I was killed by zombies attracted by a firefight where I killed a player inside an apartment building in a different town, so no connection to the spawning tents.

I do have a question, may be coincidence, but I saw a BUNCH of tents last night while playing; at one point 2 in one grocery store, and another in a house around the corner. Could they be there to encourage testing of tents, or was this just random chance? Unfortunately I was killed before I was able to test them. Haven't had a chance to test any new features/fixes yet since graphical glitches were extremely limited for me anyway (and it took a couple weeks before I saw one at all on *.5).

I know, I know!! It's updating the DayZ files. You're welcome.

Really guys?!? You post this on the same page that leads with: I'm not usually one to yell "SEARCH!!" but come on guys, the answer is on the same page of a three page thread... I can't wait to try it out tonight, btw!!

Successful Graphics Glitch Fix for nVidia GPU Users and Possible ATI Fix
slonlo replied to Yarik (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I don't care if it works or not... that shit was funny. I'll give it a try. I had no artifacts at all for a solid week, but last night they came back. "FLUSH" made it worse, but then the "memory" trick fixed it for the rest of the night. -
Fixed that for ya.

Also it looks like the dogs have a "warn" command. Implying that they will remain quiet if the command is not active. Ergo dogs will NOT alert other players to your position, unless you want them to (if I understand the commands correctly).

The whole hacker thing must be WAY worse on European servers. I have YET to encounter a hacker on a US server. Except the one that gave everyone M4 SD's just before the server restarted.

What about some zombie´s skills? and a way to "punish" banditry
slonlo replied to esteban_haas@hotmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I love the zombie idea. And I think that is part of the plan with the Zombie "life cycle." The newly infected will be stronger, smarter, faster, and deadlier. I love the idea of the them being able to hold you and knock the weapon from your hands etc. -
Next time you get a paper cut be sure to grab a near by paper cup and VERY small funnel.

If that admission fee is about half the price of a Whopper meal from Burger King and you get a full Big Mac meal along with that fee, THEN a free burger, then yes. Yes they are. If you bought that Big Mac meal, just to get a free cheeseburger, and threw away the Bic Mac, fries, and Coke, then that's your problem, not McDonald's.

Oh ok. When he referred to the features available in BIS's "flagship engine" I assumed that meant Real Virtuality 4. Here's hoping for more details in the coming days!

No worries, it is. He's already said as much.

I agree with that last point. I think the problem might not be as wide spread as it seems on the forum. People with no issues are likely to either not know there is an update (using SU) and then just go on like nothing ever happened, and some will see the update, install it, never have an issue, and not read all the problems. It's those with issues who will search and find threads like this. What is your setup? I'm getting the exact same behavior with the dead bodies. But no glitches (anymore, I had them before). I've noticed folks say that those (like me) that have a 2GB video card seem to have less of a problem. I also theorized that some of the issues stem from people that tried to update, but SU screwed it up. I had to uninstall it and use DayZ Commander to update otherwise it would still say 1.7.2.4 on the main menu, spawn me on the coast and artifacts were worse than ever.

I think he'll have better luck buying hen's teeth. ANYWAY, Still no atifacts for me. Tried 3 different servers last night (logged on and off a total of 5 times throughout the afternoon/night cooking dinner and taking a break for Shark Week and switching servers) and had started where I left off every time, even the time the server restarted on me and my machine locked up. Other than the tents and cars not saving, everything seems to be working beautifully for me. I'm on 95948 playing on 95883 and 95948 servers. Is there ANY chance some of the reported problems could be people that THOUGHT they updated but it didn't stick? I had to uninstall SU and use DayZ commander to get the patch to take. Before then artifacts were worse than before, and I was loading on the coast.

A basic analogy of the Updates
slonlo replied to Feint (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I thought it was funny! I understand that there are issues, but this isn't the usual DayZ bashing. Why's everybody gotta be so serious all the time. The game is buggy, all the new updates have new bugs lately (but fix older ones). That's what happens, and you KNOW you have a bit of anxiety whenever you log on that first time after an update... I still fully support the cause. That's what happens in alpha, but to ignore the reality (and not be able to laugh at it) is a little out there. -
The patch seems to have fixed my graphical glitches. Sunday, before I updated, I couldn't walk inside the fence at NWAF without a screen full of vectors, but this morning after updating (and getting into a server almost instantly) I ran down the whole north side of the AF with no issues what-so-ever. I did notice soldier bodies only appearing when I was in very close proximity though. I have an nVidia GTX570ti 2GB (I know some said 2gig cards seem to have better luck). I used DayZ commander to update, and filter for 1.7.2.5 and 95883. Everything worked like a charm so far. My first time getting on Sunday (when I thought I was on "5" but 6L put me back on "4") I spawned at the coast will all my gear. I haven't logged into enough servers to see if I'll have any issue with 5 now that I am REALLY on it. I'll keep testing. Video memory is on Default Resolution 1920x1080 for both. VSYNC on I tried it with many different settings, but those three constant, and no graphical issues at all at NWAF. I'll try more servers and Starry, NEAF, and Berezino tonight. No report on tents, cars and the like, but I'm sure that will be the same as everyone else. I have no tents (ditched our camp as soon as they went screwy) and no car.

Zombies should NOT respawn at crash sites if player is still at the scene.
slonlo replied to rabhimself's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I have new insight on this topic. While them respawning isn't exactly realistic, I had NO issues taking out zeds with my Glock 17 and looting a chopper crash all I wanted just outside the NWAF fence. It's not hard to avoid the zombies there (just like anywhere else on the map). Not to say that I like them coming back, but it didn't affect me at all while I was there. If you spend enough time there for them to start respawning maybe you are staying exposed too long. -
What... no blackberry?

And I didn't get to sit in on the editing and give them pointers.
