I gave you beans to make you wrong :P
-
It's an exploit, Taltsi. Exploits are part of the game right now, and you're simply telling people that you are as low as those that do similar things. Congrats.

You might find empathy on the Day Z forums, but less likely in the Bandit Campfire.

I've murdered 110 people, I'm still alive, and i'm coming for your beans...
Johnggernaut replied to Xiroth's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well, you have a different perspective than I do, for sure. I suppose we'll just have to agree to disagree due to the different perspectives we have. -

See, now it seems you miss the point. You're right, killing here doesn't get you a high score or a 'win' per se. But the aspect of 'some guy' just picking people off is an aspect of this game. you want to justify why it's a bad thing. Rocket hasn't spoken against bandits who kill either to steal someone's items or just for sport. Maybe, if you want to try to put perspective as to why someone in a post apocalyptic world filled with zombies is picking people off, there are plenty of ways to soothe your mind. Maybe the shooter is trying to put people out of their misery. Maybe he escaped a psych ward. Maybe he was a serial killer who isn't quite done just because a fair amount of hte population (see: most) are walking around half dead. My point? STFU and play the game. Bandits are permitted and encouraged and if you can't handle it, go find a single player. I don't wanna be that guy who tells people to go play COD... How about Pokemon? Not much danger of other players shooting you in the head there. Aside from the insults we are sending back and forth and in all honesty, you say this kind of action could make the devs turn it into a dumbed down shooter? I counter your comment with not wanting this game turned into a care bear world. Because a world filled with zombies has no room for care bears or bleeding hearts. That is, unless it's a bite or gunshot wound to the heart. In that case, there's more than enough room. I like ot think the zombies in Day Z eat as many hearts as brains. -

Actually, it seems more like you're the one that wants a co-op game like L4D. His point was playing against intelligence is a challenge. Intelligence being players over NPCs. Simple concept. -

Then the real challenge will be gone. I hope no one thinks the zombies are a challenge... -

"Go Solo, team up with friends or take on the world as you choose your path in this brutal and chilling landscape using whatever means you stumble upon to survive." -Keywords being choose your path "wink wink, nudge nudge". The word survival could be interpreted many ways as well, if you want to focus on it. "Kill everyone before they kill me!" "FIND BEANS!" -

If you say survival is the objective, then you are limiting yourself to that. If you say killing players is your objective, then you are limiting yourself. If you choose to do whatever you want whenever you want, well, not so limited. Point is, you see the objective as Survival. So that is what it is to you. If someone gets in the game and decides he wants to run through towns to see how many zombies he can collect, is he wrong? No. That is the objective he set for himself. Sad to see such closed minds. Also, when the game starts, it doesn't have big words that pop up saying "SURVIVE!" You might have had a point if it did. -
Now with the bandit skin re-implemented..
Johnggernaut replied to Teskuz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Still haven't tried out the bandit deal due to moving, but honestly, I don't think much will change. You can't trust anyone, not even one without a bandit skin. For all you know, he could be reporting locations or leading you to a trap. All the bandit skin really does, is confirm a bandit, but any bandit willing to let you see him first deserves to get shot. -
Against Playerkilling: Feeling of guilt causes unconsciousness/poor aiming
Johnggernaut replied to subvision's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I've never killed another player, save a friend of mine when we were messing around. I simply support the bandits and look forward to trying it out. You can speculate, but you can't truly say what would happen to someone's mind in a scenario such as an apocalypse. The mod is a social experiment and I know this. Experiments can have many kinds of results. You say 98% of the population are zombies, that's fine. But there are certainly many of us still alive. There are a buttload of people that play this mod. And your reaction is part of the experiment. In a zombie apocalypse I think you'd be the guy running around asking why we can't all get along. Someone would probably shoot you in the head to put you out of your (or their) misery. -

I lol'd. While I don't own COD, I did at one time and enjoyed it for a bit. It's a game. Your reaction is a bit more indicative of a 12 year old than mine. GG though. I'd explain my point further, but the OP stated he doesn't think his idea was that great, so I'll just let this thread die. lol -

When you lump everyone (indicated by 'you all') into one category you make yourself look incompetent. Not saying you are, but you are coming off that way. -

I changed the font of the words I made large to COMIC SANS because, well, you're funny. The bandit mechanic is something Rocket has said many times he's guarding (paraphrasing). He doesn't want ot change it up too much because it's an important part of the game. What is wrong with you people?!?!?! :P -

How so? Looks to me like he's perpetuating the suspense of meeting another player. Without suspense, this game wouldn't work. Beans to OP.

The amount of assumptions in here is fairly amusing. The OP said he doesn't discriminate. Armed or not he sees you, he kills you. Maybe his character was a mass murderer before the zombie apocalypse! -

To my knowledge, there isn't a set of rules in Day Z. There is no objective. You are simply given a set of starting items and a hunger/thirst. You set your OWN objectives. You're not better than someone else because you're not a bandit. You simply have a different set of objectives that you've given yourself. I don't care if the OP sits there and kills newly spawned players. If that's his personal objective, then that's his objective. I've said this a couple times, but Day Z might not be the game for you. I'm not judging you, per se, but when you complain that bandits are doing something they aren't 'supposed' to do, while Rocket (He made the mod btw) said taking banditry out of the game would essentially break the game (paraphrasing), well, I think you're supposed to play something else. -
I've murdered 110 people, I'm still alive, and i'm coming for your beans...
Johnggernaut replied to Xiroth's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This thread proves that everyone comes to the bandit forum. You've got your "I've been killed so many times I want somewhere to complain", your "Congrats, I'm a bandit too and that's impressive", your "I'm going to kill you, even though there are 5 million servers and almost NO WAY to ensure I'll find you" and my favorite, "I'm going to make assumptions because I know I'll never reach that many kills." I don't think I'm any of these, but 110 player kills is something worth bragging about if you're going to brag. Better than a "Check out this video of someone I killed in Elektro. Cool, right?" -
Anything that is silenced.

This game will fail long term if the PK problem isnt addressed
Johnggernaut replied to Gadget (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Seems the OP is complaining because they don't understand what this game is about. The zombies are a second to the player interactions. Interactions being shooting each other in the face. A single player or co-op only version of the game would be very boring. Without the risk, the game would fail. The fact that the OP is saying 'this is why some people don't want to play' shows they do not know that it's the reason Arma 2 is the top seller on Steam right now and through a fair amount of the summer sale. It continually remained in the top 20 sales throughout. This game just isn't for everyone. -
Last day I was playing a friend found 3 tents on a mountain near Bor, I think it was, and we took everything and then set bear traps around the camp. So they get messed up, crawl to their tent to find none of their medical supplies anymore and curse the world. Not because I'm an asshat, just because I would laugh if it happened to me. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, right? ;P

So Ladies and Gentlemen, regarding this:
Johnggernaut replied to DoshDosh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Not to sound like an ass, but the OP sounds a bit holier than thou. You're not better than anyone else because you think the community is speaking out. From everything I've read, Rocket seems like the kind of developer that wants to give us the game we want, while keeping his vision. He has the power to decide what is a valid concern or idea and I'd bet he wants us to continue to speak up about what we want or don't want. And if someone speaks out of line, trolls or is just a complete ass, well, I've seen a few members get banned. I'm not saying you're not entitled to this opinion, but I am saying that the judgmental attitude of your post makes me think you're a Lemming (no offense) in the sense that you're just going to sit back and do whatever, and if Rocket makes a change you don't like you'll sit there and take it, not enjoying it. I'm pretty sure Rocket wants to know what we do and do not enjoy. Hoping you don't take offense to this other side of the coin you flipped. -
So I've been around a little over a week. I've had very few problems with the Zeds, even after 1.7.2, so I'm thinking about trying out the bandit gig. What I mean by 'Legit' in the title, is no Alt-F4ing, switching servers to reposition, nothing that is using mechanics to gain an advantage. If I die to these guys, so be it. Also, I'm not knocking those who do these things, I just don't want to be one of them. I believe that part of the Bandit thing is taking advantage of a lack of rules. There are no (immediate) consequences, so do what it takes to win. I get that, but I believe in a bit more challenge. I don't think I'm better than anyone, either. I just want to try out this bandit thing in what I consider a legit manner. So, are there any crews who hold this mentality? I haven't sniped in Day Z yet, so there will probably be a period of learning, as well.
