Arma OA has stopped working...... after 1-3 minutes in game EVERY TIME
kayakinack posted a topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
This is driving me nuts I haven't played in forever and now I am and can't stay in the game for more than a few minutes before I crash to desktop with the message that Arma 2 OA has stopped working. I use DayZ Commander DayZ Version: 1.8.1 ARMA 2 Version : 112555 -
Arma OA has stopped working...... after 1-3 minutes in game EVERY TIME
kayakinack replied to kayakinack's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Tried uninstalling and reinstalling still happens actually now sometimes it will crash before I even get to see my character ( you know the time when you hear the sound but are still on the loading screen). This is very frustrating it would be awesome if someone had some ideas. Added: I just tested it with DayZ 1.8.0.3 and it doesn't crash, too bad there are only like 6 servers I can play on with that version. -

I Ask Elektro Snipers This
kayakinack replied to Dead on Arrival's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Actually I do it mostly out of boredom. I could go camp the NWAF but I have to deal with graphic glitches, IF I can get rid of them the foot traffic is rare, so why not go to where foot traffic is heavy. It does surprise me how many return to loot their body. And I'm on a quest to see how low my humanity can go, right now I'm at a weak -260k. Keep that up please you make an easy target :) -

Ok, first of all, this is not a joke nor an attempt at trolling. The topic name is exactly how I feel and I plan to give a brief explanation of why you too should appreciate myself and other bandits for what we do for this game. First of all, everyone in this community agrees the goal of this game is to survive, by any means you see fit. In order to make the game challenging different game mechanics were implemented to cause players' deaths. There are five main ways of dieing: other players' legitimate actions, hackers' childish actions, glitches, personal health needs, and zombies. As the game currently stands, zombies and personal health needs (ie: hunger, thirst, temp) are virtually not an issue after the first few hours of play. Glitches and hackers are also an uncontrollable factor that doesn't add suspense or a challenge, they simply kill/ruin your game with no real ability to avoid/predict them. So what is left to make the game a challenge? Why would anyone play a game where all they have to do is outsmart some EXTREMELY limited AI and grab a bite to eat and something to drink everyone hour or so? At least IMO that seems extremely boring, games need challenges and scary situations. Well that is where bandits come in. I know most people in this community can head straight through Electro and Cherno without stopping and probably without firing a shot at a single zombie and stock up on everything they need to survive and then head up north to sit around a campfire and do what you could just do in real life: nothing. Luckily for this game a certain group of players evolved that decided the suspense of a big city in a zombie survival game needed to be there. IF there were a real zombie apocalypse I hope no one believes a city the size of Cherno and Electro would have 50 zombies in it, 50 THOUSAND zombies is more like it. Well currently that isn't a possibility due to hardware/software issues, SO instead bandits create the TRUE danger of a big city. When I am sitting on my hill with my sniper trained on you and waiting for the perfect shot or when I'm sitting inside the city waiting to ambush you, I create the danger and the suspense that is lacking due to zombies, well really the lack thereof. No one that has played this game for more than a few hours can argue that the real danger in this game is other players; whether they like that or not is a non-issue. There is no AI in the world that can create the danger and suspense of a real person. Argue about realism all you want; unfortunately for your argument, realism is also a non-issue because this game is based on pure fantasy: zombies. If you are interested in dealing with nothing but zombie AI you always have the option of low pop servers. However, if you become bored with the monotony of simple survival on low pop servers, just as I did, you join a high pop server to create that suspense. I used to play only on servers with less than 10 people, now I do my best to only play on 30+ servers. Because the truth of the matter is: surviving EVERYTHING except other players is simple.- 57 replies

Banditry: The Underappreciated Service to the DayZ Community...ATM

Just need to correct one thing: ghosting (the act of switching servers to find a better spot to kill someone) is exploiting a game mechanic and I'm almost certain has been deemed cheating by rocket himself. Yes I agree DMR is far harder to use, learned that last night. Only issue I have with it is it gives people the chance to ALT-F4, which pisses me off to no end, so for now I'll stick with the AS50 to avoid problems with combat loggers. -

Three things cause rampant hackers: the ARMA engine's lack of protection; people selling/giving away hacks, kids that enjoy ruining the day of entire servers full of people. Bandits and banditry have nothing to do with it. What situation like this did you "live" in the late 90s? I'd be thrilled to hear about it. Please also let me know what is "in the spirit of the game" because I'd enjoy that as well. Last I checked the game is sandbox survival; thus, do what you will that you find fun.... right? Maybe I'm missing something, RP perhaps? Definitely not my thing. -

No change in my "argument" I simply stated my reason for calling myself a bandit because people insist that means something that it doesn't, in the context of the game. People believe that to call myself a bandit I must "rob" someone in game, I was simply explaining my self-labeling of bandit. Murderer is a perfectly fine label, too bad it isn't in game. I could also not care less if I am praised or not for sniping "noobs" in Cherno/Electro, since once again they are apparently the only ones that are ever killed in these cities by people such as myself and veterans being apparently invisible to snipers really helps your argument that only noobs get sniped in Cherno/Electro... I simply felt the urge to post my thoughts so I did. The acceptance of my fellow gamers didn't cross my mind; the boredom of waiting for my class to start did. -

Is this admin abuse, and can anything be done about it?
kayakinack replied to Sanctorious's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I may be wrong, but I don't believe there is a way of telling who is shooting, UNLESS he had crosshairs on you then he probably would have killed you if you were engaging him. I imagine there is a different explanation for you guys being kicked. -

First of all, in this game (currently) you can be 1 of 3 things: a bandit, a survivor, or a hero. I am not a hero (I have negative humanity), I am not a survivor (I have negative humanity) THEREFORE I am a bandit. Yes in the real world (which this is not) the word bandit is used to describe a person that uses force to steal, in DayZ however a bandit is a person that is not a survivor or a hero a bandit is a person that has a certain amount of negative humanity, which coincidently is accomplished by SHOCKER, killing players. Therefore, a bandit, in the DayZ sense is a person that kills other players. When I say that I am a bandit, that is what I mean, you can argue semantics all you like, I could not care less. Until the game places me in a category as something other than a bandit I will label myself a bandit just as the game does. Secondly, it is perplexing how people think that everyone in Cherno/Electro is unarmed and a brand new player, I hate to burst your bubble folks but every time I die (which happens often) I run right through Cherno/Electro myself and dodge bandits with snipers and bandits with assault rifles the whole time. This is what MOST people with experience in this game do, unless they have a camp set up and something else in mind to do up North. It is normal to see groups of 2-4 people in Electro/Cherno looting together in a tactical fashion, should no one snipe them because they are probably new spawns.. right?? Hell just yesterday there were 3 guys with rifles of some sort running around in Electro I killed 1 and the others got away. The day before I chased a bandit and his friend all the way from East to West Electro and killed them WITH an M4. Were these the poor new spawns you talk about? The bandit shot me with an m203 grenade (no idea how I didn't die). I guess he was bugged and spawned with that M16 w/ M203 on him, right? Thirdly, someone brought up a good point about gear levels and the effects your gear level has on your game play. If a sniper is in Electro with all his nice gear and there are a couple of new spawns in Electro that he is shooting at, he isn't free and clear. There are many places for weapons to spawn in Electro/Cherno, those new spawns have nothing to lose but about under an hour of gameplay, they can easily charge at a sniper and take him out with no real fear for their life. Oh yea, I forgot they are a new spawn so they must be a brand new player, because no one else spawns on the coast when they die.... Last and definitely not least, I would absolutely love to snipe in Stary and NWAF! Problem is, in the game's current condition there are artifacts at these locations. First of all it causes a serious problem for me, SOMETIMES, I can get them to go away after 5-10 minutes of screwing around with video settings, flushing, and alt-tabbing. The second problem is ever since those artifacts were accidently introduced the amount of people that go to these locations has dwindled to virtually nothing. I have server hopped for several hours to high pop servers, low pop servers, mid pop servers, servers with no clan members, servers with all clan members and after fixing my video settings each time there were 0 players to be found. Maybe I have horrible luck or the 10-15 minutes I waited on each server for a player to show up showed my inpatience but until artifacts are fixed I'll stick to my current activities: sniping Cherno/Electro and when that gets boring (which it often does) running around in Cherno/Electro with my high end gear. HEY! Another service to the community, free high end gear to anyone that kills me while I'm running around in Cherno/Electro. Well it will hopefully cost you some blood. Oh and screw the murder count/bandit count playing on high pop servers those are often screwed up by hackers, I'm trying to see how low I can get my humanity. -
It Sounds Like It's Not Even About Zombies
kayakinack replied to FanboyHunter's topic in New Player Discussion
This game will evoke emotion like no other I've ever played. Honestly, you got it right when you said zombies are just an annoyance. For the first few hours they are a problem for you but then you learn to deal with them and it becomes just another thing to give away your position to bandits. And yes there are MANY people that shoot on sight, some play purely to find other players and kill them, and then others that shoot on sight just go about their business and if they see you they will fire without asking questions. The reason this game is tense in many situations is shoot on sight. It is rather boring if your only possiblity of dieing is a zombie, because unless you fail miserably, run out of ammo in a one exit building, or are brand new zombies are damn near harmless. The standalone (at least we all hope) will make zombies are more formidible foe because current ARMA AI is just not capable of the AI zombies need. PS Some friendly advice from a bandit that kills for fun with no worry about what your gear level, hell I won't even loot your body: if you are in a city do NOT stop moving unless you are in cover and then do it as briefly as possible. When I feel like sniping I only fire if I know I can hit you, that is almost always when you stop moving, even for a split second. -
The Coalition - Changing the Culture of DayZ
kayakinack replied to Dr Wasteland MD's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I usually enjoy calling myself a bandit, UNTIL I come to the forums for some interesting reading and find ignorant kids babbling on about carebears, liberals, and dirty underpants. Oh well, I should have known that my association with these fools, no matter how vague, would annoy me to no end. Oh well, moving on... I am part of a rather organized bandit clan that I hear the FTC enjoyed dealing with until some hacker ruined it a few weeks ago, it appears the start of the fall semester has diminished our numbers but I hope to get enough on to attack the trading post some more, ESPECIALLY after I heard the last one was guarded by some serious firepower. Keep your eyes open FTC hopefully you shall see us again, or at least feel our wrath from the shadows. And as a part of that bandit clan I'm happy to see this announcement and wish your group much success because if you have none I will be forced to return to killing lone wolves in the south, at least until artifacts get fixed. This Coalition will hopefully bring an entirely new dynamic to DayZ, one which bandits will surely become a part of instead of fearing/hating. I think the majority of fear that can be seen on the forums (by bandits) is a combination of lone wolves who trust no one and thus will not group up; people like the OP of the End of Banditry thread who are encouraging the dynamic, and the sad majority: the people that feel their method of play is the only fun/real/manly/etc method of play and therefore have no tolerance for the opinions or playstyles of others. Although unfortunate, this reaction must be expected from the newer generations of gamers still arguing with parents over bedtimes and spending their allowance on video games. I hope the Coalition will take the ignorant posts with a grain of salt and not think these fools to be their only opposition because you will be sadly-mistaken and ill-prepared when a group of organized and disciplined bandits meets you on the battlefield. I warn you because I want to ensure you are not a weak opponent because then you would be a boring opponent. To the folks worried about hackers, it is a sad reality that many Americans learned after 9/11 that when you let the terrorists dictate what you do and how you live your life then you let the terrorists win. "United We Stand" ring a bell? Hackers are nothing more than virtual terrorists: do not let them dictate your game experience just as you will not let them dictate your every day life in the real world. If you do, they win. -
Stupid glitches, making dayz unplayable
kayakinack replied to Vulkfury's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you have graphic glitches on half the map you are the only one I've ever heard of. There are about 5-6 locations on the map I have issues and I'm about the only one in my clan with artifacts still. One of these days you'll learn to stop being attached to your gear, when you do you'll find the game a lot more fun. Are you a computer programmer? I doubt it. Go learn to program THEN come back here and complain about how long it takes to fix a simple bug. One that by the way I've never experienced in about 2 months of playing far more than is healthy. -
This isn't 100% guaranteed but what I do is place a tent, leave it there until the server has restarted, THEN put stuff in it and save that stuff. Only safe way I've found to do it. Also according to the dayZ wiki, a tent can hold 10 weapons/tools, 50 items, 5 backpacks.

Suggestion : additional loot camo sticks
kayakinack replied to Bazookabob's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Ghillie kind of defeats the purpose of this. If you don't have guillie then the thing you need to worry about least is your face. The big ass backpack and the bright clothes you have on are the biggest issue. -
Battleye Script Restriction 90... What?

Instead of having a respawn option that kills you (except for maybe the broken leg situation) have a button that will spawn you back on the coast at your next login. This would solve all problems with hackers teleporting people to islands, ocean, etc. Just click the button and logout/in and you no longer have to worry about hours of swimming/walking. Same goes for if you get stuck somewhere. This also doesn't have the same problem that respawning does of creating a new character on the hive it just changes the location of a character in the hive (which is done thousands of times a day anyway). So in that aspect there is far less burden on the hive with the positive uses of the respawn button. Would also allow a method of people getting closer to their friends, such as when I always seem to be up north when my group is down south until the implementation of choosing spawn points (if it happens) Only downside I see is doing it many times back to back causing a problem with the login/logout process and whatever servers/hives on which these processes take place. Maybe when each person spawns a character the spawn point of that character is saved to the hive, so EVERY time they respawn at coast they go to that specific location, then you don't have the issue of respawning to chose a better place, of course if this method of the game choosing where you spawn would work so would choosing your own spawn (I think).

kayakinack replied to kayakinack's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I read rather well. Here is a recap of your posts would you mind pointing out where you said "if it is in fact a bug, that it should be reworked into the actual game. Would solve your problem, as well as problems with ghosting and server hopping?" Maybe it is "IF its not WAI, it should be" ..... umm I don't know, I must have missed some English classes somewhere... As a matter of fact if you had said what you allegedly said I would have thanked you for your opinion. -
As the previous poster, there is no guarantee it won't be looted, often a spot you find that you think is an awesome spot, has probably already been found by others and they probably check it for tents if they are on a different server. Or there are the hackers that can just find it anyway. Then there is the random dude that just happens to stumble on it. I've found many camps this way and vehicles. Only failproof option is to guard it 24/7, which just isn't possible unless you are super human and don't need sleep or get bored.

How is something obsolete because of a temporary bug? It isn't. You just wanted to be a dick because you are upset you are suffering from an annoying bug. Have fun at the beach buddy. -

kayakinack replied to kayakinack's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yes I sure did, if you can't give constructive criticism then don't waste time typing up a stupid reply. The fact that a bug makes something obselete (at least in your opinion) does not mean it should not be discussed, should we not discuss a change in zombie AI because it is already screwed up? or a change at the NWAF because the graphical glitch keeps people from going there anyway? I think we need to go on the idea that most game breaking bugs (such as the artifacts and your beach respawning) will be fixed as soon as rocket can get to it. -

Would you not be in shock and therefore spawn unconscious for 5 minutes and therefore most likely bleed out? ... Plus at least if they were to do this instead of alt-f4 which I doubt b/c alt+f4 is far faster to do, it would at least force them to run those 11k m back to where they were, sort of a punishment for doing it (if you ask me). -

I HIGHLY doubt that was an intended change, PLUS it doesn't happen to everyone, it has not happened to me in probably 20 logins. So lets imagine that this is a bug (which most folks with half a brain realize already) and actually think about my suggestion....
