A problem if Alt+F4 is fixed?
deathTouch (DayZ) replied to osirish's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Get a better control of hackers before tackling Alt+F4ing. Being deprived of loot is annoying, but losing days or weeks worth of loot because you cant log out when someone TPs to your face and is invincible, or is dropping bombs all over the city you are in, is ten times worse. -

At this stage, DayZ is not playable.

I wasn't aware that players running around spawning choppers, jets, weapons, enabling godmode, turning players into animals, teleporting themselves, teleporting other players, aimbotting, ESP hacking, nuking towns, and killing entire 50 man servers with the press of a button was part of the intended game experience. Let's evaluate which is the bigger problem: server admins who create a private experience and give themselves a farming advantage over normal players and/or possibly compromise their own Dayz experience by "only playing with people they know", or every public server becoming infected with people who can kill the entire server population and destroy combined months worth of game progress with the press of a single button? Which is an easier problem to manage through the already-implemented blacklisting procedure? Which situation has more immediate, far-reaching and negative reprecussions on the Dayz community? I really hope some of the people posting in this thread have no real life responsibility toward anyone else, or are in a decision-making position at any level in society. EDIT: Read that you are a project manager. If your company is public, I would appreciate if you would inform me of its name so I can short sell it. -
At this point, server admins kicking/banning people to expedite their farming is the lesser of two evils. That is more easily controlled through staff monitoring of legitimate complaints coming from players with regards to server admins. A simple blacklisting of servers with abusive admins is much easier and cleaner than the current system...by a mile and a half.

Now that's the kind of server I'd pay to play on. Pretty stupid that you have to risk blacklisting your server just to combat cheating at this point. -
I used to be 100% supportive of an idea like this. Now alt-F4ing is my only defense against players using God Mode hacks, so I'm now conflicted on this matter.

Cancer can't be cured. We don't tell patients to "get used to it" and ignore the problem, we instead give them their best option(s) for treatment to improve their quality of life as much as possible. Ignoring this problem in Dayz is not a solution. Allowing server admins to police their own servers is a solution that will help combat cheaters. -

Hackers can be on any server at any time because admins do not have the power to ban said hackers, and hacks are continuously being upgraded to circumvent detection by BE. What needs to be done is: 1) Move past the stage of denial surrounding whether or not hacks are becoming increasingly the "norm" on servers; 2) Accept the current ARMA II/Dayz coding architecture allows for hacks and that BE cannot adequately protect the general public from said hackers; 3) Allow server admins to police their own servers so that the community can have a percentage of servers that alpha testers can be assured are as hack-free as possible. -
A plea to Rocket: Fix What's Broken or Let Us Help
deathTouch (DayZ) replied to -E-Claymore's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Bumping for the greater good. Hacking is becoming rampant. People say its alpha and want my alpha tester input? Ok here it is: The game has been compromised by hackers to an extent such that I can no longer alpha test the experience that is supposed to be Dayz. I can't keep gear longer than a few hours before I encounter a hacker at this point. Give server admins the ability to ban players, period. Will some abuse this power? Absolutely, and those servers can be identified by the sheer volume of complaints from the general public. Players will learn to avoid those servers, Dayz staff can blasklist them, and people will flock to the servers with admins who take swift action against hackers to ensure a fair playing environment. It is in the Dayz community, and consequently Rocket's best interest to allow self-policing of servers at this point. We as players can then go back to testing and enjoying the game in its current state. These last few weeks have made it clear that neither the dev team nor BE can anticipate and protect the general playing public from hackers in this game. Accept this fact (at least for the time being), and allow for the next best option: creating a percentage of servers that can insulate players interested in playing and testing in a near hack-free environment through appropriate server-level policing. -

Everyone on server dies at same time..
deathTouch (DayZ) replied to santosespantos's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah, it's one thing to die from a hacker every once in a great while. It's another thing entirely when you start dying to hackers more than you die legitimately. Dying from ghosting and missing kills due to ninja DCs are one thing, but dying and losing all your stuff over and over again from someone who you pump full of rounds only to realize too late that they're invincible is a whole new level of demoralizing. -
Yeah I'm not a programmer so unfortunately I don't know what can be done to combat this issue. What I do know is based on what I've read from these forums, as well as the "enemy" forums (hacking sites), it seems that the "cat and mouse" game is in favor of the hackers. BE will update their detection every now and then and issue bans, but the hacking sites will have a newly working hack out in a matter of days, sometimes hours. Those who do get through BE detection get relative immunity from being banned on a server level. As the number of players in Dayz continues to rise, so does the financial incentive for these individuals who sell the hacks to invest an increasing amount of time, energy and money into developing better and better hacks. Even people who get caught by BE and banned simply get a new key for $10 and are at it again for weeks. The massive attention that Dayz is getting is both a blessing and a curse at this point.

It's difficult to watch the hacking situation get out of control. Even a few weeks ago, let alone months ago, it was a real rarity to run into a hacker. Now my group and I have run into the 4th (yes 4th) unique hacker (all on different servers) within the last 24 hours. Three of them were using the god mode hack + who knows what else, and one of them was teleporting to players + gold AKS + C4 blasts + god mode + matrix jumping around the map + telling people how they could see them no matter where they were hiding. It's impossible to find heavily regulated servers because admins have their hands tied with regards to what they can do. Hacking is unhealthy enough when it involves aimbots + wallhacks in traditional FPS games, but death in those games is relatively meaningless, and poorly managed servers can be easily avoided. That's not possible with Dayz in its current form, which is ruining the fun for us. Whats the point of survival, to plan out routes of entrance, covering fire positions, rangefinding, etc. when someone can simply teleport to you with a makarov and kill everyone in your group because they have undetected scripts injected? My guess is that the Arma II architecture has some pretty large vulnerabilities, and there might not be much that rocket or BE can do to combat it. Looking forward, hopefully ARMA III will address these issues appropriately.

It's like you think the developers aren't aware that hackers exist in the game, or that there might be limitations to what they can do to combat them considering there's a third-party anti-cheat program being used. You seem convinced there is significantly more the devs can do to stop players from hacking. Great. You should submit an application to join the dev team so you can lead the charge. While the devs consider your application, I would suggest checking out and signing the "Petition to stop people from being mean" and "Petition for universal world peace". They're equally effective at championing change as this thread is.
