Saving someone's life by sacrificing your own.
Flying Mathias replied to hurschti's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I just tried to be a hero. I saw a fellow survivor being chased by a horde of 5-7 zeds out in the open road. I told him to run away while I held of the zombies (with my axe, my only weapon) For whatever reason, he decided to stay there and watch me. I guess he wanted to scavenge my loot when I died. Then, one zombie broke off from the horde that I had following me, and knocked him down. At this point a zombie had broken my bones, so I had to crawl over to his body, hoping to kill the zombies on him and save his life. Unfortunately, he was dead by the time I rolled over to him. I scavenged his body, he might possible have some morphine to treat my broken bones, but he didn't. Quite a failed act of valour. -

Stuck on the road between Komarovo and Balota. I saw another survivor and I tried to valiantly save him from a horde that was chasing him. Unfortunately, he died, and now I'm stuck in the middle on nowhere with a broken leg and 5000 blood. I'm in the southwest area of the US. -

The ONLY Realistic Way to Prevent Deathmatching: Make DayZ a Living Hell
Flying Mathias replied to Time Glitch's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Wish I had friends to play Day Z with. People my age are all about consoles :/ And I do think that making the game harder will reduce murder, but people who have a group of friends/clan/whatever that they play this game with will still sit around in cities shooting people on sight for fun. So, add an endgame to reduce the bored snipers in Cherno, too. -
Pre-Apocalyptic Life / Role / Profession
Flying Mathias replied to Aphex (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
They're all civilians... What I mean is, if a nurse/doctor was attacked by the zombies, why would they suddenly change into their scrubs, and go gather medicine from the hospital? They'd just be in everyday clothes. They're normal people. And most nurses and doctors that I know don't keep blood bags and morphine in their home. The same goes for the other "classes" -
Why do you people do these things?
Flying Mathias replied to Inception.'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm surprised that more people don't take a friendly approach when they're fully geared up, try to give out ammo, food, medicine, etc, to the newbies. I guess they just don't get much satisfaction from helping. Saying that makes me feel old, and I'm only 15. -

I think it would be better to make it so that kills increase your spawn time, but the amount of time that you live reduces it. So if you killed 2 survivors, but you survived a whole day, you wouldn't receive a penalty. This way, it punishes the people who sit ontop of buildings in Cherno and snipe players for fun all day, but not the skilled bandits or people who just kill once in a while. I still think that there are much better solutions, however. Adding in more things to the endgame, for example, would drastically reduce the bored snipers in Elektro.

What does everyone do in DayZ's "end game"?
Flying Mathias replied to DayZPvP.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
But even in a sandbox there need to be stuff to do once you're more powerful. Preferably stuff that doesn't involve groups of friends. (We can't all be so lucky to have friends that actually use a PC for gaming) -

It seems that I do the opposite of most of you guys. Instead of killing people for my own amusement, I experiment them. I set up a camp full of loot in a secluded place near the city, With me watching from a distance in a tower, I give people permission to loot it, as long as they take the weapon I tell them to. If they get greedy, and take a better gun, I shoot them. If they follow my instructions, they live. I think I may start doing some data on this. It's interesting. -
I tried a supernice run just now, (but I didn't go barebones, I kept my starting gear) It took me about 20 minutes to get to Elektro, and when I did, I found one guy who was shooting wildly at zombies, low on health, and running around. I offered to help him (I had looted the hospital so I had a ton of medical supplies) He said nothing, so I assumed he didn't trust me. A few minutes later, I saw in the chatlog that he had died, right after I heard several shots being fired. Later I went to the firestation. I was being chases by zombies, and so I ran into the building even though I could here a guy inside shooting. I hoped he was shooting the zeds, but it turns out he was actually shooting me. Once I got to him, I told him I was friendly; even gave him a blood transfusion. Right after I told him my story about how scared I was that he was shooting, he said "nono I don't shoot". One second later, he put a bullet through my head. Man, you are getting pretty lucky to have found only nice guys so far.

Mousing over a road sign should show the text in English.
Flying Mathias posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
As the title says; mousing over a road sign should show the text in English.(Chernogorsk instead of Черногорск for example.) Like, when you scroll with your mouse wheel when you're looking at a gun, it will tell you what it's name is. I know it's not realistic, but there's a point where gameplay mechanics need to hold your hand a bit, to represent things your character should be able to do, but a game can't (Like peripheral vision being shown by 3rd person mode). I mean, our characters are Chernarusians, right? I'd say that it's completely reasonable that our characters would be able to read Cyrillic text, then, unless we never learned how to read. And personally, I don't feel like learning a new alphabet just to play a game effectively. -

But, I wouldn't be in a fictional country. Our characters should be able to read Cyrillic letters without us having too. The game already tells you what a gun's name is, what ammunition you need, etc. That's a bit unrealistic to me, but I understand it's there for gameplay purposes. Can the same not be said about reading a sign? -
I remember that my grandfather would make sardines and peanut butter on toast. Made me sick.

Don't worry man, your video is great. I'd like if you turned your audio down slightly, you're a bit too loud.

In smaller towns, you will find several buildings that you can't enter. It can be very frustrating when your running through the village, and you can't find any loot because of this. So, here's how you tell whether or not you can enter a building. Look at the windows. If you can see through them, and into the building, there should be an entrance somewhere around it. If you cannot see through the windows, you cannot enter the building, check somewhere else.

I'm decent with Day Z, by far not the best though. I live in Indiana, so I play on the Atlanta servers, and occasionally Chicago. I'm also young, only 15, so if you have a problem with kids in your clan, sorry. I'm mature though, don't worry.

Serious thread is for seriousness.

I think that the idea of putting them everywhere is a bit silly. Perhaps on Veteran servers, but otherwise, the idea of a large group of people moving away form the city is hard to fathom. Personally, I'd like to see large cities, (Cherno, Elektro, Stary Sobor, etc) be absolutely swarming with zombies, and for the fields and forests to be much safer.

Mousing over a road sign should show the text in English.
Flying Mathias replied to Flying Mathias's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I don't mean in a way to make the game easier (Although it can be used for that), they're gameplay mechanics that are used to represent things happening, in the gameworld, to your character, that players cannot reliably tell without some "hand holding". It can be used to make a game easier, like my suggestion, or adding in some sort of mechanic to represent peripheral vision, or more difficult, like the hunger and thirst metres. As for your point about navigation, I try to use out-of-game maps as little as possible, but that's just me. And just because there is a solution does not mean that a much easier, more user-friendly solution cannot be made. -

But we're Chernarusians, we should be able to read our own language without having to learn it in real life. After all, if our characters are all military veterans who can tell the name of a gun and ammunition just by looking at it, it's not unrealistic to assume that we could do the same with our own native tongue.
