Probably gonna happen at some point. One thing to note though, a human body, especially loaded with a large backpack, vest, military vest, helmet, gas mask, m4 in hand, magnum in holster, cannot move that good :) -
That's because we evolved slowly and within social structures (groups, tribes, states, nations, etc) and it's logical that usually, any death within a given social construct is a loss to the whole. However, tribal warfare has been identified within human societies dating more then 12.000 years ago and I think more than half of the oldest fossils found allowing for post-mortem analysis show "violence by tools" as cause of death. Since we evolved into more structured societies (states, etc), the social structures just became bigger, but the same logic remained. However, we have almost no actual historical examples of a total society collapse. The closest I can think of was the Black Plague era during which between 40 and 70% of the entire Europe population died. Read up how on laws changed in England, France and the like during these times, check the reports of people being killed left and right because of the oddest reasons and the general paranoia that reigned supreme, the hundreds of Jewish (and other) communities decimated, the religious fanaticism, etc. And this was "just" a plague, not dead people coming back to life to eat your face :)

"Hopefully" we'll get proper weight/burden system at some point, which will make such things become actual decisions. Do you risk suffering massive exhaustion penalties from running and sprinting when you travel completely overloaded with vest, over-vest, insane backpack full of whatever, helmet, gasmask and whatnot....or do you travel light, allowing you to sprint and run for a long time while keeping a stable aim once you stop. Until then, of course people will just load themselves up with EVEYRTHING. -
YOU choose to put meaning into your "loved ones". Nothing forces you to, it's a personal choice you do, that's good. Now try to choose putting this same meaning when you play DayZ. Even if it's simulated, it makes every second in DayZ more intense. If you yourself don't care, nothing will make you care but yourself. So start caring, survival is it's own reward, it's own goal. Don't think about the beach and respawn, just pretend every life in DayZ is the last.

And then live your life in relative peace..until you die, alone, probably mad after years of solitude. Dust to dust and all that stuff. If something like this happened, the only meaningful thing to do past the first couple months is to not survive as yourself, but as a species. "They need to start making babies", that's how you survive long term. And then the real question then is: What would you be willing to sacrifice for the survival of the species? :)

The problem is that it only takes one....and it breaks whatever innate "trust" people would feel toward strangers and replace it with doubt. At first, sure, people would try to help each other, mostly because it takes time for someone who lived in a civilized country to realize what such a new reality actually means... ...then ONE guy would go crazy. After that, people would become very wary of anyone they don't know, which would lead to situations escalating very quickly for the worst. Once broken, trust in people is VERY hard to rebuild...

Rewarding players for actually staying alive and surviving.
Mutonizer replied to Slyguy65's topic in General Discussion
So basically what you're saying is: - Survive longer = get benefits. Which means: - Keep your character logged in and AFK in the middle of nowhere 24/7 when you're not playing = get benefits Which actually can be translated to: - Have servers spammed with AFK bots = get benefits Which in reality means: - Great concept = terrible idea -
Unarmed / Low Tier Melee Players not Listening to Armed Guys

Sure, all you see is nails, that's fine. The problem is the "urge" to hit on them nails all the time, for no reason whatsoever if to just hit on nails. That's usually what puts you into a mental institution :) Edit: It would be "Clavumania", a form of monomania :) -
Well, I guess on a somewhat stable server with a solid community base, you might have some people organizing some "labor for protection" system. Anyone out of the organization caught with a gun would be "handled" but if you submitted and agreed to provide X amount of supplies per Y amount of time, they'd take care of the security in an area or something. IF such system would allow for somewhat "safe" game-play to people, might work.

DayZ Is Officially Ruined(Player Wise)
Mutonizer replied to daniels's topic in New Player Discussion
There is very little to do in Alpha right now and it's VERY easy to survive. 1) Zombies are no real threat, mostly because they are non-existent. You just ignore them. 2) Server hopping is very fast and without any penalty whatsoever. You can gear up in minutes. 3) Combat logging is instant and without any penalty whatsoever. You simply cannot die unless with one shot. Add all this together and you'll end up with most players who are now past the "exploration" phase, fighting simple boredom. Some just don't log anymore, some try alternative play-styles and some...well..they just go crazy. That said: 1) New zombie path-finding, once the buildings paths node are integrated, will be great. Add 1000+ zombies re-spawning on each servers and suddenly it's not so simple to anymore. 2) Having to wait minutes (with risk of death) ever time you try to server hop, will hopefully mitigate the issue somewhat. I REALLY hope they'll go totally bonker on cumulative hops, putting the timer to hours after a couple hops within a certain time-frame. 3) Once you cannot combat log anymore, the risk becomes something more tangible and you'll need to be very careful, especially if it takes a long ass time to gear up. I also strongly suggest playing on a 1st person only server. This cuts down the problems you mentioned a LOT because most people "going crazy" just cannot handle 1st person, too risky for them usually. Also, if you die, it will not be because some guy just spotted you using 3rd person view over a fence or lying prone atop a tower, it'll be because you failed to see him.. -
Always takes 2 persons for slavery to work...the master and the slave. If either doesn't agree to it, won't work. Now, in DayZ, If you can set up the proper situation (with people watching) and the proper players (agreeing to it), then you can do it already. However, since this is a game, you'll most likely end up with what people cannot do in real life in such circumstances: don't care about dying/suffering and log out :)

Unarmed / Low Tier Melee Players not Listening to Armed Guys
Mutonizer replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in New Player Discussion
DayZ doesn't have goals per se but it's designed to be a survival game. To me, doing anything but whatever it takes to survive and even worse, suicide, is just nonsense. If I can run, I'll run. If I can take them out, I'll take them out, but otherwise, I'll submit and hope they'll let me live through it / talk my way out of it. As long as you're not dead, there's a chance you'll live through it... -
[Video] Social Experiment - Handcuffed with keys and gun, what would you do?
Mutonizer replied to SammyD's topic in Gallery
Very good. Of course it's with a very small amount of people but I applaud the effort and it was quite entertaining. Got my beans :) Edit: Oh, forgot that the OP asked "what would you do?" Personally: 1) Check the area make sure there's no "buddy" around. 2) Explain from a safe distance about trying to jiggle free. 3) Empty the clip from the gun 4) Free you, lead you out of the city a step, then hand out some basic supplies. -

Could also add a Velcro patch system to arm and leg. Some vest and leggings would offer velcro slots, then you would be able to find different Velcro patches types. - Country flag patch. This could be set in the character option or taken directly from Steam profile. - Blood type patch. This would be black on black by default. As soon as you use a blood test kit on yourself, it would automatically display your blood type white on black. - Vanity emblem. Just normal drops around the world like Skull & Bones, Eagle, Red cross, etc. - Squad patch. squad.xml system or black on black by default. -
There is NO hint of honesty whatsoever in this guy's voice... Anyone "acting up moronic" like this guy is doing, ESPECIALLY if he's yelling "friendly friendly" like that with, will have me immediately draw my gun try to get him to back the hell off and shut up. Any move toward me and I'll gun him down in the leg/arm if possible to knock him down, then cuff/disarm him or just run. There are ways to be friendly..and then there are ways to be what this guy is doing.... :) Heck, if I ever met anyone acting like that in real life, I'd get the hell out of there fast and make sure he doesn't follow!

Hmmm, sorry? :) Played the mod from May 2012 to October 2012 when Rocket officially left the mod development for standalone and the mod became a community thing. Back then, it was pretty much hardcore zombies everywhere and really can't remember anything that could have potentially fit anything of what you described as liking. I mean, it IS an open sandbox with PVP, full loot and perma-death but there has always been MUCH more to it than just that. What happened afterwards with the mod is not Rocket's DayZ so I cannot comment much on that.

This is just a dump of the 168 titles currently in the pbo. Not sure if they're all in game yet but I'm making a check list and new year resolution: read them all (in game of course!) :)

Musical instruments in game with Numpad 1 to 9 notes activation would be kind of awesome actually. Make it playable while walking or standing still/sitting and you can end up with travelling minstrels and whatnot! Plus, you can shoot annoying musicians, something I ALWAYS wanted to do :)

totally unplayable as of right now due to freeze-lag
Mutonizer replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
Played for an hour or so on my usual server, was 35-40 players most of the time. No issue. The server auto restarts every 4 hours though, might be why. I'll give it another go later on. -
I did find a bible in a church though I have to admit I didn't actually read it but quickly tossed it away. That said, after playing a bit today, I picked up a copy of Alice in Wonderland and for some reason, just found myself sitting my character in a quiet spot in the forest near a lake and started reading, with the forest sound in the background... :) It was VERY relaxing after the stress of moving around in DayZ. LOVE that they put books in there. I read a lot in real life already, but never really gave a chance to many of the classics. For sure gonna do it now :) tip: to read a book in game, put it on your hotkey bar and press the relevant number. It'll take a second or two to load the thing properly usually.

I see. Well it's all that, but it's not the point. The point is to survive a zombie apocalypse, not to instantly gear up and have a death-match. Hmm, I could be wrong but only thing that comes to mind just now is...wrong game? I'm saying this with all due respect :) I mean, there WILL be tons of zombies, that's a fact. It WILL be hell on earth just to survive to find gear, that's also a fact. If you only want to kill players and loot them, the time/ratio is going to be pretty insane with constant risk of death by pretty much everything on the map, from zombies to players, from disease to dehydration. The map is close to 300km² and even if they can reach a 100 players per server (which I highly doubt), that's a lot of empty space in between. Now, if you enjoy spending 6 hours "gearing up", then 3 hours waiting for someone to pass by so that you "may" kill him (that doesn't even include looting his corpse, which is another thing entirely!), then great! Otherwise, I fear each patch from here on will make you cry inside :/
-
So you want your zombie apocalypse....without zombies? That's actually good thinking, but it's much less !FUN :)

http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/154330-possible-fps-enhancer/ Make 100% sure to disable "Ambient Occulsion" and to check the config changes in the link above, especially "scenecomplexity" and the like. This can double almost double your FPS without much visual change in game.

Well, you "should" spawn with a flashlight and some batteries. There are also headlamps and weapon flashlights, which are pretty useful. It's to each his own of course, but I REALLY recommend "setting the mood" at home (turning off lights, putting your headset on and cranking up the volume a bit) then play DayZ at night with proper night settings, only using your flashlight. It can be quite intense though of course, with no zombie currently, it's very much less so.

To use a map part you found, drag it on your hotkey-bar and press the appropriate number, same to close. So far I think these are the possible map parts, usually found in car wrecks: - NW, NE, SE, SW parts. Least useful but better than nothing. - W, N, E, S parts. Pretty good. If you're lucky to find matching parts like N and S ones, you're good to go. - Full map. Only saw this once. If you get this, well..that's it. In the future, I believe you will be able to piece together map parts to make a single one.
