    Where is the rain?

Think it's because most servers restart too often. I remember seeing way more cloud formation and occasional rain back when servers weren't restarting every 4 hours and night was actually something that was happening. Hopefully once we get re-spawning stuff, servers will stabilize and we'll see night and clouds again :)

    DayZ Is Officially Ruined(Player Wise)

This. Anyone doing what this DevilDog guy was doing and I'd either bail as fast as possible or shoot him on sight. There is no sense of honesty whatsoever in his voice or movements, only pure, utter and complete bullshit.

Accuracy comparison: DayZ vs ARMA 2

It's like karatekas doing katas, all alone: it's precise, fluid and quite beautiful and impressive. Then you see them fighting in a championship and it looks horrible, completely chaotic and you wonder how someone with such knowledge and experience with karate moves is doing something that looks this lame. What you're asking is "Bruce Lee vs Chuck Noris" as it's shown in Way of the Dragon. Perfection of movements, coordination, etc. That's totally unrealistic. What would happen in reality is Chuck Noris probably wiping the floor with Bruce Lee. One was an artist with a philosophy, the other one was a trained fighter going 183 - 10 - 2 during his fighting career. Shooting targets and fighting for your life are NOT the same thing and I think DayZ should represent that. Is the current system doing that? Somewhat. Can it be improved? Oh yea, for sure and it'll probably be :) edit: please don't argue the Lee vs Noris thing, not the point. The point is that there is a difference between just showing nice moves and actually using them when it matters and it's life threatening, as can be seen in all combat sports :)
  4. Would love that, but it's never gonna happen. It's actually a form of hacking to me to some extent but I don't think modern gamers can survive without Teamspeak/Mumble/etc :) Hopefully they'll put in a working radio system however, so that people actually playing core DayZ can communicate over long distances. Also please don't mix clear game abuses like Server Hopping/Combat logging with other discussions, it's unbecoming...
  5. Hmmm, move your mouse less quickly, bit like you would a human head or body? I mean, you don't just "ZIP ZAP" your head or entire body, usually it's all in a smooth, fluid and rather moderate motion. Not sure why you can't do that in DayZ... I mean, yes I see what you're saying and if I move my mouse around full speed, it's "clunky" as you said, but just don't do it. Pan around and you can still get a decent speed if need be. It won't be 180° in a nanosecond but I never had it cause me any issue whatsoever. Look at the OP's video, his mouse movement are completely crazy. Sure they're great in twitch shooters but they're completely unrealistic.
  6. - 20m max range mouse wheel action while hovering mouse over a player [ Remember ]. Only works when no full facial wear is worn (no gas mask, payday mask but works with helmet or bandana, etc). - Input box appears where you type whatever you want in it. Limit it to 10 characters or something. - Anytime the character you used [ remember ] on is within 20m, a simple mouse hover will reveal whatever you typed in (same head wear limitations) 1) Simulates that you can remember the face of someone you've seen before, even with the graphical and engine limitation making us all clones. 2) Does NOT have the game tell you anything but what you put in, this is totally personal. 3) Allows for disguises with facial wear if you do NOT want people to see your face or recognize you. 4) Allows for quick friend recognition, simple mouse hover really. 5) Can probably be handled client side since I'm assuming each new character has a unique ID. 6) Might allow linkage to Steam friend list, having friends in Steam automatically be registered as a generic "I know him", which you can then edit if you want once you actually meet face to face.
  7. Quite fun but difficulty is mostly based on how blurry the actual googleviews are. If they are quite clear, you can isolate your overall location pretty fast. If everything's poor quality, not much you can do. Major drawback is that you cannot tell the time at which the pictures were taken, therefore it's very hard to immediately know you're relation to the equator, which is annoying. One was fun however, appeared, looked up at a sign, gave me internet extension for the country immediately and couple steps down the road, found the actual name on a trashbin :)
  8. Many people (including myself) have quite often actual physical problems when in 1st person view. Personally, I just cannot play 1st with head-bob activated for example, or at some fov settings. I never pushed beyond the simple "sick feeling" but I'm pretty sure I'd end up fainting or something if I pushed on. Since I'm a hardcore 1st person in ARMA, it's a problem obviously :) Luckily for me, I adjusted my fov sliders, disabled headbob and now that there are 1st only servers, can play and fully enjoy ever second of it. Some other people however might still be sick despite trying to adjust fov and whatnot. It's...genetics? I don't know..but it does exist. Now, Rocket (I think? or was it Hicks?) mentioned trying to fit both worlds in there at some point. Stuff like "auto 1st person when prone" or "closer camera" where mentioned I think, to combat the various 3rd person abuses. Since most "issues" people have with 1st person is when moving, and most abuses are when not moving, it could be an interesting twist on the problem. For now we have split servers and soon (apparently?) split hives. I'm good with it but it's always sad when things like that, not 3 weeks into an alpha, split the community in two already.
  9. You will never change people who just don't give a damn. If someone enjoys sitting in the very same spot for 5 hours and sniping fresh spawns for no purpose whatsoever, there is very little you can do but increase the time investment required (more dangerous zombies, less weapon spawn, etc). That'll at best filter some out a bit but you need to realize that some people do nothing but spawn, rush everywhere, find a mosin, find ammo, find a scope, go on a roof somewhere and snipe people for hours, die from dehydration or starvation, and do that all over again, and again, and again. They do not care whatsoever... Alpha being bare-bone content wise and very easy overall, a lot of people are somewhat bored, therefore just do silly things, because they joined the "don't care" category. As content is added, these will fade back into actual DayZ players. Disconnecting/combat logging is just a feature not implemented. Give it time, let the team implement their vision, then in a year or two, we'll see how it goes. For now, I do not feel any need whatsoever for the game telling me something like that. It's all gut feeling, risk/reward. There IS body movement to analyse in DayZ already: see how someone moves around, approaches buildings, etc. There IS psychology already every time you talk to someone and quite often (maybe wrongly) I had gut feeling that the person I was talking to was bullshitting me and I got outta there FAST. Also, I do not need names anywhere. If I meet someone and he tells me his name is Jack, wtf should I know it's not in fact Jack? I mean, if I meet you in a forest, we talked and you asked me my name, I could tell you anything...
  10. I propose a different system! - If a guy looks odd and dodgy, with scary face masks or a gas mask or some silly motorcycle helmet...be careful. - If you see someone at a perfect sniping position and staying there...be careful. - If you start talking, asking the person you spotted at range to identify himself, and you get no answer...be careful. - If you engage in conversation and the person you're talking to sounds dodgy...be careful. - If you tell someone to immediately raise their hands and drop their weapons, and they don't...be careful. Now..what new and improved system would I need in-game for all that?...Hmm...oh wait? Play smart, be smart, decide for yourself...

Cant change gender and clothes anymore

Have you tried clicking on "Make Default" after your selection? It's easy to by-pass this, just reading "default" and thinking "oh, that reset to default". What it actually does is save your current selection. I confirm that you CAN change your character selection with a live character but of course, it'll only be used once the current character dies.

First experience and a few comments otherwise

You are "formatted" to perceive things (in games) a certain way. I don't mean this with disrespect, it's just that most games today (and to some extent western societies) do this now and so it's logical to be be, we all are in various ways. Now: - There are no nor never will be any goals in DayZ but the ones you set for yourself. There is a core concept, to "survive", but that's just a concept. Take responsibility, and make your own goals! - You cannot "win" in DayZ, just like you cannot "win" in life. You will never "win" DayZ, ever. You can only, ultimately, die. There are however successes and failures, plenty of them and with varying degrees. - The game will never clearly tell you "you succeeded" or "you failed", simply because there is no goal. If you die, your death might actually have been worthwhile and meaningful (ie: you took a risk to save a friend, etc), or it could be in the woods with a bleeding broken leg and no bandages as you slowly but surely die, alone. - There is no "end" or "goal" or "progression" therefore nothing to show for. What matters is every second of the actual experience of DayZ, the actual journey, not where you end up, because that will ALWAYS be at the same point: dead. - Leave the "achievement" mentality behind and just enjoy the little things as you play for yourself, not because the game tells you about it. The game is quite bare-bone for now and a very simple/easy, but already you can work on it. Just try to immerse yourself in there and have fun finding a backpack and a can of beans. EDIT: Now, I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying: give DayZ a try, a real try, as what the game tries to be. Then maybe you just won't like it, that's fine. But from what you explained in the OP, you haven't actually tried DayZ yet, you just came here like any other game and went "wtf is this shit". DayZ is not like any other game, never meant to be :)
  15. Guess that's why I can still play 10-15 years old MMOs. On top of that, I'm pretty sure that the 800k+ sales in two weeks make it so they don't really have to give a damn now if some people are slightly "frustrated" :)
  16. Yea the body movement is quite cool, but I think the fluidity comes from the fact that it doesn't matter whatsoever in game since it could a stick that just floats in the air and the gun gameplay would be exactly the same. It's just fluffy animations (and nice ones at that) but they are completely irrelevant to game-play. In ARMA, your arms are actually connected to your body and they react to it's movement (in a somewhat clunky way as mentioned). Do you play with DeadZone activated? Quite helpful in getting arms movement without body movement though the actual ratio is very personal I think. In any case, I think we both agree it can be vastly improved overall, and hopefully it'll be. As to the actual "improvements" needed however, we might not agree on :)
  17. Haha. It's an interesting test however :) As for Max Payne 3, yea, it's quite fun (though not really my style of games) but come on, it's TOTALLY unrealistic! The guy fires a DE.50 (one handed!!) with constant pixel perfect accuracy while running around AND being fired at from everywhere! It's like his gun arm is not even connected to his body nor affected by the laws of physics :)

    Painful story

Depends what you mean by intense though....early Arma2 DayZ mod was pretty intense I think! Oh, and it's 800 000, not 800 ;)
  20. Slight tweaks are good and probably in the works. Some of the body movement can be clunky but usually it's because don't understand how it works and try to control their character like they control other FPS games and when they see that there is no perfect precision to everything they do...they think there's a problem. To me, that's not a problem, that's the closest to perfect solution to such a game. Sure it could be improved, but what can't right? Also, 3.4kg isn't about weight, it's about inertia. If you apply a great burst of energy to move 3.4kg in a very short amount of time, that energy will have to go somewhere and usually that somewhere has to be met with another burst of energy to prevent inertia or it'll go flying. If you put 3.5kg in your hands (as if holding a gun raised and aiming forward) and rotate exactly 180° at full speed and keep a straight aim, your muscles will work hard to stop the rotation and without some kind of training (usually through repetition) your aim will be way off... However, if you do it slower, the energy will be minimal for both the rotation and the inertia blocking and the aim will be stable and constant. Now put a trekking backpack on your back with 50-60 pounds of gear in it. Even with proper packing & strapping (which are skills, most people have no idea how to do that), if you rotate full speed 180°, the energy needed to just stabilize will be crazy and people who never really tried it before will most likely fall down on their butt or go flying across the room. Also as a note, the human body actually suck balls. Our skin is pierced easily, we don't have any natural defenses or camouflage, our reproduction system sucks and the list goes on and on. We're awesome because of our brain (and thumbs), not our body :) That said, I agree that there needs to be some tweaks to the system. I'm hoping for a weight system that will "act" on the mouse movement/acceleration. The more you carry, the more it's felt but if you are in light clothing and no backpack, you'll get more stability/smoothness. Overall however, I feel that my head movement (ALT) in DayZ is perfect and doesn't feel clunky whatsoever, on the contrary. Can be ultra fast when needed though less precise, or slow and very accurate! For the body, I'm used to it so I know how it behaves...
  21. To learn anything tough, you need the "will" to learn, experience new things, make mistakes and learn from them, etc... From what the OP described, there was no interest in learning anything whatsoever and instead, instant frustration. That's why I don't think it' a game suited for his tastes.

    Rolling Update Rev. 0.30.113953

Cool, exactly like the Friendly-Forager here. Have constant 10-25ms ping, rarely desync issues and if so, it's very brief. Before .113953, rubber-banding was ULTRA rare. Now, it's every 10-15 seconds while jogging in a straight line.
  23. Changing server because it never auto restarts, unstable, completely empty and whatnot is not really "server hopping" I think. Server hopping is more, to me, the conscious act of constantly swapping server to obtain gear faster. All in all though, it's indeed annoying but what can you do right? It's alpha and all that :) Just need to wait for the team to put something in the works then we'll see how that turns out.
  24. "Everyone else do it, why not me?" is a very common excuse. Since a lot of people cannot assume responsibilities, it's great for them since it removes any sense of shame/guilt, transfers it through an arbitrary justification "they do it!", and therefore, it's not their fault, they're just being clever! Personally I have way more respect for an honest douche-bag combat logging all the time to exploit the very nature of it, than toward someone who tries to justify it like that. At least the first is true to his douche-baggery :)

    Reality Virtual Engine-Bad for DayZ

Apart from the ARMA3 engine, I don't think there's any better for it which is a great part of why I'm here. Now, as said, looks like they're trying to hybrid the two somewhat, which will be interesting to see.
