Devs, Friends of Devs, and Server Admins in-game...
Mojo (DayZ) replied to griffinz's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I think you just broke Teleport Dave's heart. -
The beta patch is, well, the beta patch, and Dwarden works for Bohemia, so I don't think he's filling your game with hacks. You aren't banned, only kicked. To better troubleshoot this problem, I'd advise rebooting your computer to force a complete flush of your memory, which may having something in it that is giving Battleye a false positive, then try reconnecting. See if the error repeats itself, then let me know.

Alright. I know you've said you've updated, but first make sure you grabbed all the updated files. It's easy to miss one file in an update of many files. Usually when I patch DayZ I just download everything again. Specifically it is all these files that were updated: dayz.pbo dayz_code.pbo dayz_weapons.pbo dayz_equip.pbo dayz_sfx.pbo If you're sure you've successfully updated and you're stuck at waiting for server response, I have to ask, how long are you waiting at the 'Waiting For Server Response' screen? It can sometimes take five minutes or more to get into the game. If you're sure you've updated, and you wait for long enough (please give it ten minutes, just to be sure it's not just taking very long), come back and let me know.

Oh' date=' pants on fire! This is a thread that has now evolved into discussing the merits of making servers unilingual vs. not making them unilingual. If you're going to bring up the argument about "not talking to a person because you don't understand a word he is saying", you're bringing it up under the banner of that discussion, under the topic of force. The only way that statement makes any sense or has any place in the argument is if you're talking about people forcing you to converse with others. Nobody is telling you to strike up a conversation with people you can't understand, and that entire line is completely not germane to whether or not server hosts should have the right to enforce unilingual server policies. I mean Jesus just don't talk to them. -
Have you been able to successfully connect to and play on servers before?
-
Anton, it depends on a couple of things. First, it might just be taking a while, so give it time. Second, I know at least in earlier versions players were able to connect to servers but not get loaded into game if they hadn't updated DayZ. Four days ago is when the 1.5.8 patch series first came out, so if you were able to play before, make sure you've updated your DayZ files.

[HELP] How to edit this mission...
Mojo (DayZ) replied to redshootleo's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
You can't' date=' but he isn't asking about the DayZ mission, he's asking about a completely separate mission. Why he's asking in the server general forum, well, I don't know. The topic warrants a move, but it beats me as to where. The mission may have been binarized. Regardless, Bohemia Interactive enforces authors' rights pretty strictly, and reverse-engineering another's mission or mod without their permission is pretty frowned upon. Using a modification to build your mission is acceptable, or adding your own work to build upon it, but not actually altering somebody's work. If you find the mission needs modification, ask the original mission author if he can incorporate your suggested changes, or if you can alter his mission file, then ask him how. Don't expect a yes answer, or a step-by-step guide, though. -

Oh my' date=' did you ever come to the right person to ask for that. Why, us of course. First, I'd ask you to take a look at my guide to setting up FireDaemon Pro. First, it should help you set up FireDaemon Pro to monitor your server's health, and starting and stopping your server. It's written with the idea that even total newbies to server hosting can use it. Try that out, and give me feedback on how useful it was to you, so we can make it better for other admins. The goal is to eventually have a full, unified documentation for new and experienced admins alike. Do that, and we both win. I like winning. Now, as for tweaking, that depends on your particular setup. I know your cores, but can you tell me: 1. How much RAM you have. 2. Are you running on a physical box, or under a hypervisor (ie: do you have a VPS?) 3. How much bandwidth you have available (100 mbps, 1 gbps, etc.) On to the other monitoring/back end stuff, I highly recommend you download both the Battleye Extended Commands (or BEC) as well as the RCon GUI. If you need any help setting anything up, or just have questions in general, I'm available here on the forums through post or PM, as well as on my TeamSpeak server at ts3.monolithservers.com. Just poke me, and I'll bring you to the admin channel and help you set everything up.

Alright, sounds good. Make it a few few hours. I just got through setting up a few other users and was waiting on your reply (not blaming you, mind), as it's been another 22 hour day for me, so I'm going to get some sleep. Come on around prime time (if you're still having the problem) and I'll help you out. Don't worry, I don't sleep much. -

Alright, hop on the TS address I posted in the thread. I actually used to get the same error too. Can't guarantee that what worked for me will work for you, but dammit I'll try. -
Holy crap! It's a donation thread for Chicago 1!
Mojo (DayZ) posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Now a lot of you are asking me for donation links in game. I mean a lot. Now, the way I figure it, most of you are just very cheap and/or broke and faking it to get on my good side. That's very smarmy of you, and I admire that. You're still beautiful to me. On the other hand, I figure an equal amount of you are honest, caring people that want to find some way to contribute to DayZ and the community. That's very noble of you, and you should feel good about yourselves. If you're serious (and you should be), here's the link: DONATE! DONATE! DONATE!DONATE! DONATE! DONATE! So what does donating get you? -MORE SERVERS! More servers means more slots. More slots means better chances of joining. -SHINIES! We have a TeamSpeak 3 server at ts3.MonolithServers.com. Soon we will have a website set up. With forums. You can talk there. Shinies are things we give you to let you know we adore you. (And I hope all of you know how much I adore you given how much time I spend not playing the game and just trying to get you guys squared away -- and don't get me wrong, I enjoy doing this.) They also let you lord your status over people who haven't donated. You can make up a funny nickname for them, like "freebies" or "pubbies" or "Aunt Harriet" -- you're only limited by your imagination! So what does donating not get you? -Guaranteed slots: Guys, there's hours where I go without playing on my own server because the server is full. I have never kicked anybody to make room for somebody else, myself included, and I never, ever will. Not myself, not you, not anybody else. The server is there for the community, and that includes me, but it doesn't revolve around me. And me and owl pay a heck of a lot for these servers. The same goes for you guys. Donating increases the server instances we can put up, and that increases your chances. That's the best we can do. -The right to abuse people who haven't donated. Well, abuse them too much, anyway. Feel free to call them Aunt Harriet as instructed above. Nobody gets special status on our servers. Nobody gets to play God. Well, God gets to play God, but I don't think he plays DayZ. If God logs into our servers, then he can play God. You can't, and we won't, and we won't tolerate people who do. You can play survivor or bandit. If rocket introduces a foul-mouthed sailor, you can play that too. Alternatively, you can go to the Suggestions forum and ask that rocket add God, so you can play as Him. And, carrying on, what Chicago 1 is and isn't: - Is Monolith a clan? No. We are a community. A community with a squad.xml file that makes us feel like big men. Mostly we just walk around typing *scary klaxon noise* in side channel when we do things, because we're too stupid to figure out how to get inceptionhorn.ogg to play properly on our server. - Is Mojo a dev? No. I get this one a lot, and I don't know why. So no. Donating to me won't get the DayZ devs to update faster. - Will I get kicked for killing a Monolith guy? Hells no. Never. If you beat us in PvP combat, thems the breaks. You were a better shot, or you got lucky, or you saw us when we didn't see you, or we were too busy typing *scary klaxon noise* to do anything about it. We don't kick for killing us. You won, we lost.* *Unless, of course, you're cheating. In which case you will be kicked and banned. Don't do it. - You can also be sure that our server(s) are pretty heavily administrated. We can't always be around, but I try to be, helping new players through the processes of getting in game, swearing at Hive when it fails, mostly hiding north of the NW airfield alt-tabbed out of the game making sure the server doesn't crash, and kicking people that scream racial slurs in group chat while waiting to get in. Wow, what a long post. Congratulations if you read this far! If you did, include the message "IReadTheWholeGoddamnPost" in your special comment to the donation recipient. It won't actually get you anything, but it will baffle Owl, who will have no damn idea what you're talking about. I love you all. Your pal, Mojo -

Banned from US9 for killing the admin.
Mojo (DayZ) replied to wildleaf's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Codeusa, I have never, ever seen an admin come out and just flat-out admit to such grotesque wrongdoing as you have here. If you need to record a movie as you were doing, the appropriate thing would be to arrange a time during off-hours to lock the server down, inform the DevTeam as to why you're doing this, attempt to make that lockdown as brief as possible, and do what you needed to do. Your players do not exist as extensions of you. God, I'm a film maker by trade and cannot even fathom traipsing into public places without a permit, using the people around me as ambient extras, and attempting to "direct" them. And then, to top it all off, attempting to penalize them for not following my "direction". YOUR metagaming and video recording session interfered in the normal play-style of other players. YOUR metagaming and video recording session was tantamount to attempted God-moding enforced by a penalty, and not only a penalty but a ban. YOUR metagaming and video recording session monopolized the server at the expense of all the other players who were forced to re-arrange themselves as your "crew" ventured through wherever you were filming, forcing them to move (assuming the risk of loss on themselves from PvP or PvE actions.) Did you ever stop and consider as much as you didn't want to get shot during your Spielberg Jr. sessions, none of your other players -- the ones who were actually playing the game it was meant to be played -- wanted to get shot as they bumped into each other or acted defenceless on your orders? I can't believe I'm saying this, but stop fucking admin'ing. My God, the entitled behaviour as you try to educate your player as you magnanimously lift a ban that never should have been enacted in the first place, admonishing him to learn to listen, is just fucking staggering. I was shocked when the players on my server, the first day I'd had it set up, were surprised that an admin was interacting with them, checking on them through RCon, asking if they were having a good time. I thought all admins did that. After seeing this, though, holy shit. No wonder some of them have such a negative opinion of us. Edit: I have to add this as I'm surprised at the depth of my fury over this. I can't blacklist. I don't have that power. If I did, I would, without hesitation. Do not ever come to me for help. Do not ever come to me with setup assistance on anything. Do not ever come to any of my little network of admins for the same. That's about the most I can enact for a blacklist, but I'm doing it anyway on general principle. wildleaf, it goes without saying, I extend an open invitation to Chicago 1 and Chicago 20 (or whatever they finally assign if/when the server namespace gets defrag'd). This shit is not tolerated by me, and if any of my sub-admins do this, it'll be them that gets banned. And it won't be lifted. -

UK11 - Whitelist Request "109.70.149.71"
Mojo (DayZ) replied to zxrtommo's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I know you no longer wish to host, but if you would satisfy an idle curiosity I have, if you neither altered the time on the server itself (that is, in Windows) nor by opening the PBO, where exactly did you lock the time? -

UK11 - Whitelist Request "109.70.149.71"
Mojo (DayZ) replied to zxrtommo's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I'd need more information on this before knowing what to make of it, not that my opinion actually matters towards whitelisting: 1. Did you actual alter the mission file, or change the server environment time? 2. Were you aware of the damage it could cause to the SQL database, or any problems that might arise from changing the mission file? 3. Alternately, were you notified later that these alternations needed to be rolled back immediately, and dawdled on doing so? -
